Hi all,
Plz bear with my ignorance when it comes to upgrading ROMS etc.
Basically yesterday I upgraded to O2's official WM6 ROM .... and find it "not so good". It is slow to respond etc( i found it slower than my WM5 )
So now I wanna move to BB4, question is how do i do it??
I have downloaded an Artemis_USPL from Prof. So what are the steps I need to do??
Is it ...
1) Run start_uspl.exe from the zip file and let it complete.
2) Run( double click ) the img-46785-Tom_B_B_v4_0_TouchFlo_Professional.exe
Is that all I need to do?
Also, if I brick it .... what do i need to do to revert to an original ( say o2 WM6 ROM) ... is it USPL it again then run the O2 rom??

yep, thats what you need to do. both 1) and 2) will need some user input and after it's done the device resets itself. so after 1) wait until restart is complete, then do 2).
for your original roms you dont need uspl. but if you are not completely sure, run it anyway.

Hmmm doesnt wanna play ball.
Did the above and ran uspl .... got stuck on a white screen. So I rebooted the Orbit and tried running the BB4 .exe ... got to 3 % and told to that .......
Error 270: Update Error. The image file is corrupted. Please check your update ultilty.
Can anyone help?? It will not upgrade ROM.
I keep getting the white screen and it cant run ROM utility(Error 224: Device not responding ).
I then reset the device and run BB4 ... I get to 3% and then I get error:270 ( image file is corrupt ). I have downloaded the ROM again and still get this error.
Any helpers out there??

I had the ame problem mate. What you need to do is revert back to the original 02 WM5 Rom which can be found on this forum somewhere. Then once installed, run uspl & then the BB4 Rom & hey presto your sorted.
For some reason i couldnt get uspl to work on WM6 02 rom either

Ensure that your windows firewall is disabled and also you shut down any anti-virus programs running on your PC
I also found that turning off all the plugins on the today screen helped me to upgrade my O2 orbit.
I went through the same issues as you with corrupted images at 2% , however following the steps above helped me.
The firewall was disabled and so was AV ... so not sure about next steps.
I thibnk I shall try downgradind to original O2 WM5 rom and then upgrade ....
question is where in this forum is that Rom!! I had seen it before but as usual when u dnt need something you find it and when you need it u cant!
Will keep on searching .... anyone know the link plz save me some time!

Downgraded to WM5 now .... and tried to run BB4 .... still no joy. Same error.
Maybe i'll try another ROM just to see if that works and if it doesnt then MUST be my PC or something.

Tried another machine ..... XP SP2 not FW or AV still failed.
Always get to 3% then crash.
HELP!!
Tried BB3.7 still no luck. 3% and crashes .... on 2 diff PC's.
I noticed that USPL runs ver 3.0.3.0 of the update utility but the actual ROMS when you launch them are running 3.6.3.6 ... does this make a difference?

Those are the issue no's of the rom upgrade utilities - it does not matter. It appears you are still not cid unlocked. whats your spl no? take it from first bootscreen.
SPL is 1.25.0000
IPL is 1.25.0001

The spl from uspl is 1.110000 so you need to run uspl again. Even if the screen goes blank wait till it says your rom has been upgraded.
Thing is when i run USPL and it gets to 100%, all i get is a white blank screen and nothing happens. So i have to reset the device.
Then i try and run the BB4 etc install and get to 3% before it conks out.
When I get the white screen ... what else can i do??
Some people had to run uspl 3 times in a row for it to work. Did you wait a while on white screen before giving up? I guess you are on 02 wm5 at the moment if not flash to that and try again. If you are do a hard reset and try again - few times in a row.
OK looks like USPL doesnt work for me!
Everytime I ran it under WM5 i still had 1.25.0000 and then i upgraded ROM to O2 WM6 and now everytime I run USPL it stays at 3.04.0000.
It doesnt do anything after the white screen ..... just sits there like a duck!
With so many ppl having succesfully done this surely someone can be a Wizard of Orbit??

Had same problem. Dont reset the phone but just if you see only the black screen, run the USPL update.
I have an orbit and uspl flashed first time from wm5 and wm6 - is yours usa orbit? If you really cant run uspl then it will need cid unlock from imei check - it costs but you have permenant cid unlock so you need not worry again.
I tried to flash WM 6.1
and then Give me Error and now i have a black screen
any one can help me please!!!!

i treid to upgrade to windows 6.1 , while i'm updating gives me error and i tried to restart my mobile but nothing at all even i can not access the bootloader
Is your computer recognizin' your PDA. What happens when you connect it to the USB port ? Also, try after removin' SIM and the SD.
P.S: And you still need to tell me, what error msgs do ya get ?

Error code 101 is actually connection error.

no XP SP2 , but as i told you i think i installed rom not for universal
also my screen is dead nothing at all only black no serial or usb on the screen

Oh man,
you have screwed up your phone big time. Post a thread in General Discussion> Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking. Someone there might b able to help you out on this.

i have a similar problem, but it just stucks on 7% of flash and then gives me an Error 112, i think it is the rom, and maybe it can be fixed with an eeprom flash or not? if it can be, can anyone give a how to do it?

hey bro, error 112 actually denotes ROM update error.

follow Method 2 , if it doesn't work, then follow Method 1, mtty may prove useful in this situation.

ok that methods doesnt work.. im stucked not in bootloader... i can exit bootloader but the system doesnt start... when i press the reset button it just keeps white screen (w/o backlit) and nothing happens.. if i connect the phone in that state just unrecognizes it and if i press the light and power buttons (without resset) it starts the bootloader.. its not reading the rom
every time that i try to flash a rom on it just fails, and it gets the error 112, on every 7%... how can i fix it?

I have the same problem. I mistakenly flashed the wm6.1 rom meant for BA. I dont think there is any remedy for this problem because the unit is not coming on and so cannot enter bootloader. The only sign of life is the red led which means the unit is not seeing the power supply ie it does not recognise that a battery is instaaled. No one has ever come up with a solution. The unit is bricked fullstop. I am already bidding on another unit on ebay.
i did chat with imate support and they advice me to go to any service center and they will fix it.
i tried many kind of solutions but it does not work so my last choise is to send it to imate service center.
aahh something happened when i tried to flash a rom on my universa, i connected it to the pc, and started the proccess as allways, but.. it stucked at 7% and then error!!! and now i cant flash anything!! what can i do???

If you haven't had any answer yet is because that question might well have been answered several times, you have to be patient and search the forum and the wiki, even if I have never had that problem (fortunately) it is somehow "common", there are several methods, involving sometimes the need of getting the PDA in bootloader mode, attaching it to the PC and using a serial communications program (such as hyper_terminal), also if I remember well, the great MAMAICH have it's own method, so, look out, dig, read, lose your sleeping hours and good luck!
After that, if you're still having problems you will certainly propose a better question that someone might answer...

I was happy a sunday morning, and i was reading this forum lala.. Happy..
then...
i saw a rom ... that rom was WM6.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365335
i flashed it.. it worked fine but i had so low memory.. then i continued reading that thread, and found that someone changed the pagepool and gained memory, and i downloaded the modified version.
well, when i tried to flash it.. the phone just got unrecognized by the pc (when it tried to enter the bootloader with the RUU, as allways) and became nonresponsive... then i did a reset.. and nothing.. then i did a hard reset... and nothing... and then... i entered to Bootloader manually, and it worked... and i started the flash... but... when it reached the 7%.. it stoped and typed "ERROR 112: CE ROM UPDATE ERROR" and it happens with every single rom i try to flash...
i got some conclusions, maybe the SPL or something has corrupted the rom settings, but i dont know how to fix it.. can you help me?

, i liked the way, you explained it.
Ok. The way i solved the Problem was the MAMAICH method, wich is:
1. Enter Bootloader.
2. Disable Async (task manager, end task)
3. Connect Universal via USB (in bootloader mode)
4. Run mtty (found in wiki)
5. In mtty, write USB on the left corner (it says COM1)
6. Press OK button on the right upper corner.
7. A window should appear, press enter, after that, you can see a "USB>" thing.
8. Write "task 28 55aa" (without quotes).
9. A process appear on screen (nothing in the Universal)
10. Well done, now you can flash any ROM again.

Just started it again and says the phone isnt synced and its still 0%

Well everything went good but there is a problem
When i tried to flash the radio it always stuck at 0% but somehow it said on the phone that i was using the new radio that i flashed
When i try to flash the rom its the same problem , stuck at 0%
Why is that?
have you try to install another rom?
That happened to me when I tried it while in bootloader mode! I let the device to boot then started all over again while in winmo. It worked . Try it and see if it works!
EDIT: Do that while activesync is running, and the 'Allow USB connections' setting in acticesync is enabled!

So, what should I do now?

Error 260 is the connection to activesync..
put device into Bootloader..
run the Rom Update Utility..

try taking the sd card out..
