I'm starting to not like this phone

It seems like there's literally no internal storage. Does anyone know exactly how much it is? I have about 10 mb of email, 15 mb of Facebook data, 20 mb of contact storage, and about 5-6 applications installed that are over 1 mb, and somehow the little "Low Space" notification keeps popping up. I already uninstalled so many apps and right now I'm down to the essentials plus 2 games. It's annoying and I don't understand why the internal storage is so low that you can't even install more than 2 apps without it going crazy. My Hero never had this problem and I have 20-30 apps installed on there plus 3 email accounts and I never once saw the "Low Space" notification.

App2SD? Clear cache?

So, youre complaining about an issue that everyone on any Android has if they havent rooted?

It's the biggest problem on all android phones. It's being fixed (if you have group 2.2 youll notice an improvement). But the best solution so far seems to be root. Read into it, and Google things like apps2sd.

Problem is, at least in my case, most of the apps just don't support installing in SD, like Google maps, Adobe reader, Gmail or even YouTube apps. No use of being in Froyo then.

Then Root your phone and use apps2sd!
Make a 1 gig ext3 partition and you have lots of space!

Lets be honest, though. You shouldn't have to root to make your phone do something that should be standard on Android. Not everyone will want to invalidate their warranty

Mate, stfu - I've rooted and know full well it's reversible. Was just stating that we shouldn't HAVE to do it, it should be standard. Apple managed to do it with the iPhone so why can't anyone else...you telling me that someone who's not that computer literate** should have to root their phone just to install some more apps??

No no, please don't give Apple credit, Iphone have loads more internal memory than any android device which relies on "external" SD storage. If iphones worked the same way, this limitation would be advertised as a freaking "feature"
Ok so we shouldn't HAVE to do it, but I fully understand Google taking time to think things out. Just plainly installing on the SDcard (i.e. copying apk packages) with no piracy preventing measures is not viable. The froyo way is already a nice step forward. If you want full control, well at least you DO get the opportunity to take full control of your phone through rooting and apps2sd.
Please don't compare to iphone which still doesn't even know what file browsing is

That's what I meant about the iPhone doing it, Apple got it right by cramming the iPhone with internal memory!!! HTC could've easily done the same

I wouldn't advise just rooting your phone on the spur, research it first...
Also upgrade to Froyo, then you get to trnsfer your apps, if thats not enough then download App2sd and if thats not enough then clear cache and if thats not enough delete some apps that you never really use.
Finally IF thats not enough, sell your phone and buy something else...

Totally agree that you shouldn't just root without understanding the whole process and what it means. I was troubleshooting two other users that nearly bricked their Desires by rooting improperly.
But back to the OP's comments, I was like him. I rooted because I was running out of space to install apps

same here i struggled with performance when my internal got full even with force 2 SD
i finally gave up and rooted my device, never looked back
a reminder: if you want to root and install a2sd make sure it's done with a full wipe

The Desire is way better than the iPhone. Only thing that keeps people going back to iPhone - is cause they used to it - they don't know what they are missing. iPhone can't take SD card......iPhone SUCKS !!!!!!

Dya know what gets to me? Idiots that spend hundreds of pounds on a device without even researching the device specification, only to end up creating pointless threads, not because there is anything wrong with the device just because they didnt educate themselves about what they were about to buy, any google search will show the desire has a total rom of 500mb, knowing that the system, cache, radio and recovery partitions were going to take a sizeable chunk of that, i fully expected about 150mb of internal storage so i wasnt disapointed

Well that was a fail of a statement. It sucks because of no micro SD card...I'd rather have internal memory as it's quicker to access anyway. One reason why HD videos on the iPhone are so good. But in the end they are both phones nothing to argue over. Both have good and bad points it's all opinion.

[Q] How to transfer apps 2 sd on Galaxy S3?

I just upgraded from the S2 and on that phone it was possible to have apps on SD card.. But on my S3 there is option in settings at all.. Does anyone know a way to do this? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Don't be scared... come on over to the dark side. Seriously though, do some reading to see if it is for you. There are ways to root and unroot, this might be a good place to start looking

YES! Come join us on the root side, everything is better XD
Additionally to evoer's suggestion, you can also check Link2Sd which is a free app that allows you to move selected apps to the extSdcard. Root is also need for this app to work, so yeah root it! You must partition your sd to have one part FAT32 and one part ext4 partition. There are free apps for that floating around that'll work on PC, not sure if the current custom recoveries have this integrated. I know back in the EVO OG days we were able to partition directly in recovery.
Warning - before partitioning, you must back up everything in the sdcard to you PC since this will format you sdcard.
As for rooting, if you take that road, go this thread found in the Android Development section. It's a tool created by Senior moderator/Recognized developer mskip. Read through the OP and some pages before attempting this. But this is on of the most straight forward and easiest methods available.

I dont know bout the Dark Side, but the Rooted side definietly!!!, It isnt hard to root and flash roms, just takes careful reading thats all.
Im now sporting my new GS3 16 gig using Phantoms Blaze Rom with the extsd2internalsd GS3 64g class10 mobile, internal 16 gig ext.
worked like a charm. Their are some issues where some apps install the app and data into the real internal memory but noting too big, Atleast thats the prob im having. Good thing i didnt spent 400 bucks for the 64 GS3 im a happy camper with this mod.

Just my opinion but if you choose to root it, do it yourself. That way if anything ever does mess up, you can figure out how to fix it on your own instead of going on one of the forums saying "help my friend rooted my phone and now everything is force closing, what do I do?!?".
It really isn't as complicated as it seems, so long as you follow all instructions and there are many here to help of you get stuck and can't find a solution to a problem. However, a decision only you can make if it is worth it. There is always a small chance of a brick. I've done it before but only cause I was a idiot and flashed an international s3 version ROM when rooting my Sprint galaxy s3
I rooted my LG optimus way back so that I could remove T-Mobile bloatware since the phone was crap anyway. Since then, I always root and have become a flashaholic (although wicked sensations v1.1 is keeping me grounded for a bit ). I'm slowly learning thanks to all the great info here, I was all proud of myself for modifying my mms.apk last week and recompiling it with no issues I still have way more to learn but once you start it is like an addiction. Lol.

Pardon my ignorance but why would you need to move any apps 2 sd card? I mean I have a S3 16GB with a 32GB card added to it and I have about 70+ apps installed on the 16GB card and I still haven't reached 50% of the memory on the phone....

Games and such take up a ton of space. For example NOVA 2 downloads 2 GB of content. Theres also music, videos, etc

I don't think there is any need for these kinds off apps/hacks anymore. The original EVO and other androids had horrible memory issues. They were trying to get by with 512MB to 1GB for both the system files and the apps. The big apps like NOVA etc only have a small piece on the ROM portion of the memory. The rest is on the internal or external SD card. So there's no need.
Granted I have the 32GB version with an additional 3GB SD card only because I had it from my EVO days. Most people don't need that much space.

Using Link2SD, I get a failure to move due to insufficient space. I have a 16gb SD, with 14gb allotted to FAT32 and 2GB allotted to ext2. Any ideas?

Right now CyanogenMod is giving me problems. The "best" app Link2SD won't work. It says it will not work with my device. Maybe i'll downgrade to stable cm 10...

Nandroids and roms also take up a lot of space, and some apps save enourmous amounts of data as well, cache is also another biggy

[Q] Why to Root Note 2?

Hello all, i recently bought Note2. I switched over from my 2 years old HTC desire which i had rooted in the very first month for various reasons.
Just to give you a background i am not against rooting. But i believe, since we are taking this risk, it should really be worth it. For my HTC, it had 128 mb of internal memory, no official upgrades and i loved cm. So it was all worth it.
Looking at Note2 it a better looking version of cyanogenmod. (off-course will a few features missing). Although i was used to reflashing my Desire every month, i havent found any substantial reason for rooting NOTE2. It has regular updates biggass memory and HDD. very fast CPU
Only thing i miss is a more powerful flashlight (Torch) and a stock 5x5 TW launcher (i am using go launcher now to leverage the screen real estate). So apart from this and that i've heard Gmail 4.2 has pinch and zoom. I havent heard of any substantial gains by rooting NOTE2.
Please list what are the advantages of rooting NOTE2. i know the advantages of rooting in genral. i am specifically talking of note 2. Also i dont want to you all to list advantages like nandroid backup CWM recovery etc. since my contacts sms / call logs and apps are already being backed up at google / dropbox / Evernote.. I am loking for something substantial.

The Note 2 will be the first phone I don't root. There's really no need, IMO.
The Samsung software with it's S-Pen features is a bit too complex to trust "ROM chefs" and such. I'll just enjoy it as-is.

Also other fonts and "adfree" are reasons for me

Thanks for the quick response. Specially the link. Most folks on the thread state that custom roms or even root has not been a great benefit to them in case of Note2. i do not need the above functionality you mentioned since the only reason i need vpn / ssh is to connect to work. Which i do from my laptop. But i will be on the look out for anything that pops up. Thanks again

I'm sick and tired of flashing custom roms because I have found that after playing around with stock roms, I revert back to "stock firmware" anyway. So i just stick to stock samsung firmware. There really is no need to root for other than getting rid of the adds (i use adaway).

1. Titanium backup
2. Nandroid Backup
3. Debloat the rom with stuff i don`t need with ROMCleaner
4. Adblocking
5. Flashing mods like increae incall volume, brightess.
6. Flashing stock firmware and keep root with Mobile Odin
7. Raise the readahead values to load up apps, webpages, and other stuff faster
8. Overclock for performance or undervolt the kernel to save power.
Other users might also have other reasons so enough reason to do it i guess

Also to increase the internal storage by switch the external sd card with phones internal memory so making bigger internal memory.

The Note 2 is not out in the US yet (I'm so tempted to buy the International version) but when I do get it I plan on rooting it for Titanium Backup and Ad Free and a lot of root apps that I use but I don't see a point in flashing a custom ROM on it.. Its so perfect without it.. Wish it came with Tablet mode.. I love having my status bar at the bottom of my screen...

+1. In my opinion, this is ultimately the only reason for rooting - all the rest can be done in other ways.
However, some applications like orange cinema series (in France) check if the telephone is rooted - if so they won't work. Ultimately, rooting is becoming a very debatable benefit today - up to the next release of Android 5.0 on the New S5 processor. At that moment, i am sure that Samsung will delay updates as much as they can, since the hardware improvements become more marginal (with the exception, of course, of LTE) and therefore a differentiating factor between latest models and 1 year old devices. And then, all back to AOKP and CM27...
I say this by experience: my galaxy S I9000 works like a charm with Jelly Bean, and it would still be a froyo telephone if i would follow ORANGE F....

Do you really need more than 11 gig of internal memory? Assuming you transfer move your songs videos and other pictures etc in ur external.. why do you need more than 11 gb of internal?

Needs a root for things like sixaxis controller. Pretty cool to be able to use a wireless PS3 DualShock controller to play your favorite games.

For me the most important thing about rooting is themes, i hate stock theme(grey windows etc) and i love transparent status bar, other things wich pusch me to go for a root is basicly posibility to remove stock apps, custom kernels wich give u better performance and battery life and offcorse for my mod sd2extsd wich give u oportunity to save more things on ur phone(games and apps)

I'd have to say solely for themes and removing bloatware with a custom rom to get the most of the ram availability.

11GB is tiny - particularly if you want a coupe of good games (you know you do lol) - apart from the 1-2GB of physical space the app takes (even when storing saves etc on SD) INSTALLING them takes more space and many require several more gigs ONLY during the install process (presume for unpacking etc) so you have to leave a couple of giggs free - leaving you with 8-9GB of usable space - not a lot.
If you use no games at all I agree 11GB might just do but other apps will fill it quick - eg: snote stores all its notes in internal SD (only small but multiply a few notes a day x a couple of years - it all adds up)
My friend has a 16GB SGNI - NO GAMES, but any medical apps (each 20-200M) and he's struggling for space
I just don't want to be limited (that's the whole reason I'm leaving ios for my mobile)

Ad blocking, and Nandroid alone are the main reasons why I rooted my phone..... there's also lucky patcher.....

I think you are confusing rooting with loading up a rom. Rooting is a must for a lot of users who want to customize. For example, let's say you want to use an NFC tag in your car to turn off wifi, turn on bluetooth and turn on GPS. This will work fine all the way up to the GPS part, which requires rooting to make it automated.
As others mentioned, titanium backup and other software needs it as well.
Rooting unlocks possibilities, it isn't loading CM.

Don't worry about rooting until you find a need for it (get tired of ads, overclocking or just a general love for tweaking the build.prop file or any of the various apps requiring root access). Until then, just enjoy your phone

Advantage of rooting galaxy note 2
One of the advantages of rooting Galaxy note 2 is that it will start ready NTFS hdd and usb on-to-go....

It's not really necessary to root this phone in my opinion. Amazing phone and the first one I've owned which has left me wanting for nothing.

[Q] Note II - Apps2sd Issue

I have a Note II (Sprint) and i recently purchased a class 10 64GB Sd card, i rooted my phone and followed Galaxynote2root video on youtube (i can't post link but it's the one about apps2sd) https:// www youtube.com/watch?v=QUF7R0mmk00
It did work, it's showing that i have at least 59GB on my "Internal" and my REAL internal is now showing up as SD with 700mbs.
The Problem: While it shows that i have a lot of space, anything i download is going straight to internal (real) not the 64GB card.
What i want be able to do: - To take all my apps/files from my internal drive and move them to the 64GB SD card
- Have any files i download/install go directly to 64GB SD card
I purchased Titanium backup but it's not moving the files to SD it says it moved but storage app is not counting
I'm so confused if anyone has the time to help me i will greatly appreciate it.

Google in all their wisdom removed app2Sd in Android 4.0 and up. This is why we need a 32 and 64 version off this phone. Make sure your titanium backup defaults to your external as well as the camera to save internal space.

I know this isn't the ideal solution, but can we at least move the large Data or Obb files onto the extSD card and then move them back when we want to play the game (Like Asphalt 7 and Dark Knight)?

Sadly no. I've not been able to use any kind of apps to do this.
Between Google Music cache, google maps/earth cache, tumbler cache, Bard's Tale, and Asphalt 7 that's using up almost 9gb of space on the internal "card" partition. It's crazy that the Evo3D could easily move apps/data to the SDCard but we've taken such a huge step back with this flaw.

Huh? There was apps2sd in 3rd party ics builds for my evo4g. It will probably take some time to port it to the various N2 ROMs unless there is some overpowering technical reason for it bot working. N2 is still new and young and devs are still getting the hang of it. Stock OTA might not ever get it but who stays at stock?

In the Play Store description on apps2sd the developer specifically lists the Galaxy Note 2 as a device which is NOT compatible. :crying:, not happy about that one either. Cause with the potential of this device and its display I want to d/l kick ass games but can't plug up my internal storage when I have a perfectly good class 10 32Gb SD card!
The only fix for this to my knowledge at this time(which my knowledge about moving apps to the sd card is not extensive at the moment. I have done a little research. ) the only solution at the time is an available script. Which I saw on Galaxynote2root.com as well. But I am personally not familiar enough with the method nor how it may interact with a custom ROM therefore I am personally waiting for either a clearer description of the process or a different method all together.

The video teaches you how to flip your SDcard for the Internal, so the phone thinks you are installing on the internal but it's actually the SD (CONFUSING LOL) So when i went to titanium pro, i was super confused with the whole "Move to SD" i didn't know if it was moving to SD or the Internal since i flipped it was all super confusing to me i'm new to android, i've had an iPhone since the first one and decided to get a Note II about a week ago.
So what i did was just deleted all my apps, followed the video and installed all the apps again from the play store and it went to the 64GB card!!! So yay :highfive:
Apps/games run great not even lag at all, camera/videos save to 64GB so i'm really happy.

Careful with that card. Definitely not as reliable as internal memory. Especially if your taxing it with everyday constant use .

I just ran into this issue, no space at all! I just realized that my titanium had been installing to my internal.

The only fix for this to my knowledge at this time(which my knowledge about moving apps to the sd card is not extensive at the moment. I have done a little research. ) the only solution at the time is an available script. Which I saw on Galaxynote2root.com as well. But I am personally not familiar enough with the method nor how it may interact with a custom ROM therefore I am personally waiting for either a clearer description of the process or a different method all together.

[Q] How Can I increase the size of my / Data partition

I love AOKP/CM 10 Roms the blazing speed the customization , makes touchwiz look like kid stuff.However, the only issue I have is just when Im starting to get snuggled into a good ROM □WHAM□ Insufficient storage available....Now on TW based stuff I just flash a app2sd script due to the init.d support.Ive found however that this isnt possible in the world of AOKP/CM10.Or maybe it is and my weeks of research have just been in the wrong places.
I know damn well the millions of other non TW users are not running around with only a handfull of apps because of this limitation, there has to be a way.
My topic name might even be the wrong question .I just assume that increasing the /data partition on my internal 16g sdcard is what I need to do since I no longer can swap it and use my 64g for the internal.If I am wrong please tell me.Any help would be most gratefully (and possibly even monetarily) appreciated.

We can can't change the partition layout of the device by any mean, and I never being able in problem of low storage either in aosp or twiz roms , may be you use a lot of apps, any way I think there are a lot of alternatives to appstosd you may try system tuner, most of tools apps have apps to sd option

Maybe there are areas of the drive that I cannot see that are filled up with stuff from me flashing different ROMs constantly.I don't play games on my devices so that's not it.I do have about 200 apps on my play store account but that's not too odd I'm sure..
Like I said maybe there is something somewhere building up that's not being cleaned by regular Factory resets when I install a newROM .I'll look harder.Thanks for the feedback.

there's a free app called diskusage ( green weird icon ) that will give you a detailed graph on what's using your space
