[Q] Bluetooth Mutes Audio during Calls - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A couple of months ago I flashed a rooted 3.70.651.1 OTA. I believe it did not have the latest radios. My original Jawbone bluetooth earpiece was working fine at that point.
Then, about five weeks ago, I flashed my radio to 2.15.00.04.08 and PRI 1.90.003.
I am not really into flashing ROMs and radios, I just want the newest stock ROM and radio, and root so I can run Titainium, WiFi Tether, etc.
After "updating" the radio, an old bluetooth issue returned: During calls, my bluetooth connection stays connected, but the audio mutes and crackles. It's so bad I can't use my earpiece right now. I am sure it's not the earpiece, for two reasons:
1. I have two Jawbones, both the same model, and both have the same issue.
2. I had this same issue about a year ago and an update seemed to have fixed it.
So I'm thinking I should flash back to the last radio, though I'm not sure which version that would be (I "think" I had 2.15.00.09.01, which seems like it would actually be a newer version, no?).
And, do I simply flash the radio? I read in another thread someone advised to flash a different kernel.
Like I said, I'm not big into this stuff, so I'm not sure exactly what to try.
Ver. 2.2
Baseband 2.15.00.04.08
Kernel 2.6.32.17
Build 3.70.651.1
PRI 1.90_003
PRL 01115

Did you find anything about this? I am having a similar issue. My Jawbone ERA used to work flawlessly, but after the last update the voice quality has become terrible on the other end. The people I call complain so much about it that I have to switch off the bluetooth and use the handset.

I think that it is related to the stock rom and not the radio. I have a Jawbone ERA as well and it works great on Miui with the latest radio.
I believe bluetooth is more related to kernel and rom. If you are rooted you could try a custom sense kernel or rom. If you are not then you have to wait for root or HTC to fix it.
Correct MIUI pronunciation: "Royale with cheese"

Hmm, and I understand there is no root available for the GB yet? This last update has really put me off of HTC, though I had been a long time fan. Well, guess won't be buying another HTC again. My high-end bluetooth headset has been rendered useless. With all the restrictions on using cell phone when driving shouldn't this be bluetooth be something really important when the manufacturers release or update their devices.

So it is now October and I still am unable to use my BT earpieces. I am not confident with dragonsofcp's suggestion because he does not state which radio he is using, so how can I compare that to the one I am using?
also, if you read my post above, the problem started after I updated the radios - not the ROM. And I do not understand what a kernal is or what it does.
Here are my current specs:
7/8/11
Used ROM Manager to update radio to 2.15.00.05.02
Then updated PRI to 2.15_003
Current Kernal is 2.6.35.10-gc0a661b
Build 4.24.651.1
PRL 60681
Bluetooth is listed as 2.1 + EDR
I am sooo frustrated. I hate having to use a wired headset. It's always getting caught on something and pulling out of my ear.
I have posted about this issue more than once but have never received any solution that worked.

FYI - That isn't the latest radio, or the latest ROM build. You might want to try updating to the latest versions and see if that helps.

Well, thats my plan. But last time changing radios didn't change anything, as far as my issue.
I'm trying to find out exactly which files contain the Bluetooth radio, and where do I find downloads for them?
Sent from my PC36100 (EVO) using XDA App

Updated to the latest radios (2.15.00.08.08). Didn't fix the issue.
guess I'll start looking for a ROM.
I'm wondering if maybe during flashing the ROM something doesn't install correctly, in which case flashing the same ROM again might fix it?

Firmware, Baseband, Software, PRI, and PRL

Ok, I'm mixed up and maybe I still have too much noob left in me. I've got a rooted phone, software version 1.32.651.6. I know there was an update but I didn't do it b/c of fear of losing my root. So, what I did do was update some things "manually." I now have Baseband 2.05.00.06.10, and PRL Version 60667. I also flashed new Wimax as found within these forums. My question now is: I'm hearing about PRI version. How do you update this? And, is it necessary or useful? And finally, was there anything other than the above changes that I'm missing as a result of not doing the OTA?
Any info on any of these questions would help.
Thanks!
After downgrading my PRI to 1.34_003 (using the NAND unlock), I have not been able to receive text messages from AT&T. I have tried everything I possibly could to restore the PRI, but am helpless because it's an issue that resides in the roms themselves, according to toast (forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6845492&postcount=75). I am really hoping that we can find a way to update back to the stock 1.40_003 or better yet, an updated version. That's just my 2 cents!

Hmm thats strange. I have no problems sending or receiving from AT&T. All my friends but 2 are on it (one T-Mo & one Sprint) and I have no problem whatsoever messaging them.

Orange de-branded, updated radio, GPS broken

Hello all,
I'm aware there are a few threads of people complaining about GPS not working when updating/unbranding an Orange branded handset (more specifically the radio). The solution seems to be downgrade the radio (which is more of a workaround than a solution). I've been wanting to try out one of the recent Froyo with Sense ROMs, this includes 720p video recording (and something else). The radio must be updated for this to work. I've tried the new radio and it breaks my GPS (left it outside for 10 minutes, it used to fix within seconds). Has anyone had any success in getting the GPS to work without downgrading the radio?
Thank you, Rowan.
Okay, been nearly a month and quite a few views but no replies. Even with the latest radio GPS still never fixes. Has anyone else had any experience on this?
I'd say the easiest fix would be to shove re-flash Froyo on there and if necessary unlock your phone with a code. Failing that, root and install an older radio via recovery. I haven't seen this issue anywhere else.
I've already unlocked it. As I said in my first post I want a newer radio to try out 720p recording and such so downgrading the radio isn't really a fix. I can only think it's Orange's meddling as GPS works fine with one radio and not with another so it's not like a fault with the actual phone :/
What radio version are you using?
I'm running a de-branded Orange phone on the OTA official Froyo ROM and it's all working fine. The baseband is:
32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20
I did just try that one you mentioned and it didn't work. I used to use 32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11 as my radio that GPS worked with (I tested all newer ones and no GPS). Now that doesn't work either so I'm a bit miffed.
Edit: Okay that does work actually, I'm guna play around a bit. I'll get back to you.
Edit 2: Okay, I've played. It seems it's actually a problem with Google Maps as the Compass app works fine.

[Q] radio q's...

hi there:
i have 2 general questions about radio updates...
1) is a radio update - 2.15.x, for example - a software update or a firmware update? like, did i flash my radio so that all my roms are affected? or, is only the rom i applied it to affected?
2) does a radio update - 2.15.x, for example - affect all radios in my phone? like bluetooth? or just my cellular radio?
i'm asking because i can no longer get my dinc to connect to my bluetooth, no matter which rom i'm on. i'm trying to pin it down, and the timing seems about right to when i flashed 2.15. even my stock 2.1 rom won't connect anymore. i guess it could be something else, but the radio seems a likely culprit.
thanks!
1. It is neither...it is a radio update
2. It affects only the baseband, or cellular radio...bluetooth has something to do with the bluez plugin, which is updated in the android versions
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
1. Technically, it's a firmware update, so yes, all of your ROMs are affected. ROM flashing has nothing to do with the radio.
2. The radio update affects baseband version, which has an effect on cell network connection/quality. Bluetooth, Wifi, etc, are all handled by the kernel, which is part of Android, not the radio. Think of the radio as a completely separate OS running outside of Android.
thx for the replies, guys. it's what i expected, although i was hoping i was wrong. dang, what's messin' with my bluetooth? dang...

software information

I had to call Verizon today about my phones terrible 3g service. They asked me to check the software version and since i'm rooted....I hung up.
I since installed the newest rmk stock ROM but want to make sure that when I call then back i'm not giving myself up.....
I have it as Android 2.3.4 with sense 2.1 with 4.08.605.3 as the software version. Is this the correct version? I'm tempted to unroot but I think that's a waste of time

Yes, that is the latest OTA
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA App
Thank you. anything else their likely to ask me, which could expose my rootedness? Lol I don't know why their checking the ROM anyway. The last ota still had the 622 radio right? I was running the 722 and put it back just to be safe.
No, that was one of the things that was big about the update, was the 722 radio.
Sent from my rooted MIUI Dinc2
They ask you about software information to make sure that your phone is on the latest software, if not they will just tell you that the update will fix your issues and if not call back.

Baseband question

Hey guys I have a question about baseband compatibility
My GNex is completely stock 4.1.1 and is rooted.
I was on bigxies ROM running uglc1 and I seemed to have better reception with it.
Thing is, ever since I went back to stock, I've tried flashing the same radio over xxlf1 and I can't get any service. I am experiencing the same issues once again such as random signal loss and no service. I ran GetRil and everything is good there.
So is it that you just cant run a different baseband on a factory installed rom or am I doing something wrong?
Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
...Sorry for wasting anyones time http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23305473&postcount=195

Not all radio versions are compatible with every version of Android. This sounds like you have a GSM version of the GNex as I myself have a the CDMA/LTE version but in some cases when new version of Android come out or leak or what have you it's best to keep current the radio versions with the OS.... If that helps or makes sense at all. I do know that on the CDMA/LTE JellyBean updates I'm still using the radio versions from 4.0.4 with it and it's perfectly fine. Have you always had the loss in signal or is this only of recent with testing different radios?

I got it to work. Apparently some thunderstorms knocked out at&t service last night and I was flashing radios during it so when I got done, I couldn't pull any service down. While I'm still without signal, I know its not a radio issue now. Thanks for the response
