Ello,
I currently have an XDA IIs (Blue Angel). When I picked it up, it was beautiful. But now, it's starting to irritate me.
1. The whistling screen is louder than ever and it's driving me insane!
2.1 After updating to the newest official O2 ROM, the general speed of the machine is terrible! It crashes all the time (especially using TomTom).
2.2 After updating, I can no longer watch videos off my SD card without them jumping about, playing audio static every other second, of simply not accepting it at all!
So, I'm thinking of getting a new XDA - but which one??
This is what I use my XDA IIs for:
> TomTom Navigator 5 - I use this every day (when it works).
> Playing videos - 99% of the time of my 1GB SD card.
> E-mail
> Internet - lots of browsing and data transfers - - I try to use wi-fi whenever possible.
-I'm told that if I use 3G, then data charges won't be quite so massive, but I can't find any evidence of this.
> I'd love to get Skype working, but so far I've been unsuccessful.
I'd also love to get video calling going, but I read that O2 are going to start charging at rather high prices and not taking it out of the inclusive minutes - ergh.
+Plus, a usable camera would be nice.
What are your experiences? Any advice?
ANY help here would be very much appreciated!
Big thanks in advance!
-b
If you want video calling and want to stick with O2 then you'll need the XDA Pro. (O2's version of the HTC Universal)
Don't know about O2's charges but GPRS and 3G data with Orange cost the same. £1 per MB on the tarrif I'm on. 3G is just faster and would probably cost more because you're likely to use it more because of the usable speed.
I use tomtom every day on my Xdaiis with the latest official O2 ROM and it never crashes. Are you using it in corporate mode? Also considering your issue with videos too, I'd wonder if it's your SD card that is at fault rather than your device. Perhaps it might be worthwhile backing up everything on the card, formatting it and then putting everything back on. If possible try another SD card altogether.
however none of this will fix your whistling screen, or quell your desire to upgrade.
On O2 the universal is the xda exec, on t-mobile it's the mda pro and on Orange it's the SPV m5000, you might want to take a look at those, t-mobile do good data packages withj their walk & web tariffs, but it's t-mobile, Orange have the best 3g coverage but screw the device up a bit with their crappy homescreen software, O2 have the better looking device, with least modifications if you turn off O2 active, but their 3g coverage is not too impressive.
Nice one, peeps.
I thought the O2 Exec was the universal?
Any more for any more?
Dear eveyone
I have some questions about my HTC touch pro phone. I got this phone 2 days ago, but realized the speed of processing is reali slow,cz i compared my one to my friend's PDA, which has a lower processing speed, as can be seen from his phone data, and he bought it 3 years ago. Can something tell me if there is a problem with my phone or something?
Another thing is I dont kown how to use GPS in this phone. I understand I need to download another application for it..(I dont want to use google map,cz it wont direct u the way). Can you guys tell me where can I find the application and how to use it?
Plus: is GPS for free or I have to pay for it while using it?
Have a great day
Regards
Ava
Hello everyone,
as i've written I'm holding a Desire on Orange contract Panter (the one with unlimited texts 400 mins and "unlimited internet")
This is my second month of my contract and i was looking through my detailed bill and I saw something disturbing about my texts.
Here's a picture below:
ht tp://img826.im ag esha ck.us/img826/3315/orangetextscam.jpg
*please remove the spaces (as i'm a new user i'm not allowed to post outside links)
As you can see, after each text (charged as 0.000, as it's included) there's another "blank" one which is charged 0.009p.
So, why I'm charged for the texts when I haven't even reached my monthly limit and moreover why there isnt even a number there??? Is this something normal, is it to do with Orange or an (fraud, virus) App i have downloaded and it's scamming my texts?
The help will be highly appreciated!
I have the exact same problem. It because orange charges you for the delivery reports and if u disable the report on your messaging. It stops billing you on your phone
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Yeah, I had that issue for a while when I had my Nokia n82 when I first moved over to Orange a few years back. Just turn off delivery reports and you'll be fine.
Thanks for the help guys! I've turned the reports off and should be fine.

After over 24h i checked my online bill and guess what..! These blank 0.009p messages are still there even though i've turned the delviery reports off! What now?
Those that were already there will (probably) stay there. Or you're saying there are new ones?
I had the same as well - ring them up and be nice but persistent to the Customer Service people, tell them you turned this feature off and see what you can get
Also, check you're not paying for any of the Orange maps which comes with a load of the bloat/c%%p ware on the default Orange build.. When I first got my Desire I played with it before going down the rooting path and opened one of the Orange "free 30day trail" mapping programs... which started charging me!!! After a rather lengthly conversation with Orange CS I got my money refunded

I haven't used this crappy software, I couldn't handle it for more than a couple of days and after that i rooted and changed my rom.
I'll call Orange then.
Hello everyone.
I'm having the same issue as quite a LOT of DHD owners, the same issue that seems to have no actual answer (I've done a lot of searching).
I get an Error whenever I try to turn on my wireless or wireless hotspot.
I have a non-rooted, no custom-ROM, Unlocked, Telus coded HTC Desire HD updated to Android 2.3.5 w/ HTC Sense 3.0. I am currently on Rogers Wireless, but the problem started while I was with Telus. I've spoken with Telus techs already, and the ones I've spoken with are completely incompetent and I'm really not sure why they work in that department. (I know it's mean but I know for a fact that most, if not all, of the Telus agents are 3rd party contracted employees that work for a contact centre, and they only get, and use, information that is provided by Telus. Most of the information is useless for these kind of issues.)
I noticed my wireless acting strange after the update came out (yes I know it was a long time ago). I had gotten the error half a dozen times, but a soft reboot would always fix it. I didn't unlock my phone until February, 2013. The issue started in... June or July 2012, I think..
I dropped my phone a couple times, landing on the left top hand corner once or twice, didn't get an error. Then one day I just wasn't able to get my wireless to work at all. Tethering worked fine until I unlocked it and moved from Telus to Rogers.
I've been unable to use wireless connectivity for half a year now, and after switching to Rogers Wireless (Telus doesn't cover the area that I now live in), I lost the 5gb data plan that I had, and only have 1gb data per month. I am quite a power user, and I now really need wireless connectivity so that I don't have to worry about going over my data limit. Sad to say but Rogers has terribly expensive plans.
I have tried:
-Cleaning battery cover contacts
-Hard reset (removing battery & waiting a few minutes before turning back on)
-Factory Reset (once, but now I'm afraid to lose all of my contacts that I can't seem to figure out how to back-up [if anyone has any advice on this off-topic, it would be nice to hear about that])
-adding IP/Gateway configuration
-Opening a ticket with HTC (I haven't had a reply from them in a week)
-Speaking to the [unknowledgable] techs at Telus
-Google
-Many android forum searches, including XDA, that lead to no actual answer, or answers that lead to custom ROMS (Which I'm trying to avoid because I can't seem to figure out how to properly install one)
I don't know what else to try, I love this phone and I don't want to have to spend $600 for a new one. (I hate contracts, and I'm currently on a month-to-month with Rogers Wireless)
If one of you can solve this problem, I swear I will give you all dah loves. :3

Try buying a new battery cover and sim cover can work sometimes.

That thanks button doesn't bite
HTC finally got back to me with a decent reply. The one who emailed me advised that I try a Wipe Cache Partition. I haven't done that yet, so I'm going to try and see what happens I suppose.
Update: Still nothing. Will have to try something else.
Hey Phooey. I have a similar issue with my DHD and people have been about as helpful as they can be without a logcat to search for errors. Here is the thread I started on my issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2269203. Tried to get HTC to fix it but they were no help at all.
I suggest you make a logcat and attach it to this thread so a dev can peruse it and hopefully help you out.
I'll definitely try that. I read through your thread and I'm starting to think that it could possibly be a hardware issue with my phone as well, seeing as the problem didn't start until I dropped it without the case on. I'm just happy DHDs have a nice sturdy construction.

Make sure the "flash" panel is secure (gps antennae are behind it - wifi too maybe, not sure). Tethering can be detect by a phone network so wouldnt surprise me if they could stop it too! Contacts can be automatically backed up with your google account in settings/accounts/google and make sure contacts is ticked, as a secondary precaution you could use something like "my backup" off google play to backup things like contacts calendar entrys call log etc and also the apps you have installed.

If you go down the route of rooting you could try different roms to see if the problem persists across severel roms and if so then that would indicate a hardware issue

Exactly what has happened to me and my old (but faithful) HTC Desire. Did you get a solution?
(I am going to try this htcdesireforum.com/htc-desire-troubleshooting/wifi-'error'-after-installing-android-2-2/msg9369/#msg9369 )
Dialling a code worked for me.

I had the same Wifi error on my phone when I try to turn ON it showed me "Error" . MAC Address was also showed " unavailable ".
Try dialling *#*#526#*#* on the phone keypad. This worked for me.
