Ive looked all over the net and xda for what this means and what's causing this, but its one of those ask 10 people, get 10 different answer type things. It seems that every sense rom i flash, i end up getting "process com.htc.bgp" has stopped working or something to that effect, then it force closes. Not sure what this is and any help would be nice. Thanks for taking the time to at least read this.

it usually is when you remove to much htc stuff
lol...guess that would explain most of it. I do remove a decent amount of apps, guess i shouldnt. Thanks for the speedy response too, Joel.
not sure if this already posted, but wondered if i froze certain apps via titanium backup, would it cause that message to appear also?

yea freezing them is sort of like removing them because HTC no longer reads them as apps
the following i have found to be safe to remove
stocks app and widget
flicker app
twitter app and widget
peep app and widget
facebook app and widget
friendstream app and widgets
I have not recieved that message on the following roms
kingdom all versions
uber shift
redemption rom 2.4
nils business gingersense all
uber kingdom all
my guess on what you cant freeze or remove are:
Mail app
messaging app (i know it sucks compaired to market ones but if you remove it issues arise)
clock app+widget
calander app+widget
htc likes
htc hub
dialer (duh no dialer cant make calls)
sense can be removed but not with titanium backup
people.apk (address book dialer will use this)

I want to remove the following from my phone;
Footprints,
Friendstream,
Teeter,
Stocks,
Peep,
HTC Mobile Guide,
News & Weather,
Weather
But when I go in through TB to uninstall I get a message saying that these are system packages and uninstalling them can trash things.
What effect will this really have my phone? Do I need any of them? I don't think I've ever used any of them, and don't think I will, although I do have facebook synced, and I use Beautiful Widgets for weather.
I used Titanium Backup to remove all of the aforementioned programs plus the Mobile NFL app. I would not touch anything related to the weather though since I have no idea what effect that would have on the rest of the system because I have not tried it myself.
One thing I can definitely tell you not to remove is anything and I mean ANYTHING related to Google Talk. I can tell you from experience how badly removing Talk can f'up your phone. The Market, as well other major apps and functions somehow all seem to be tied in with it for what reason I do not know (wtf Google?!).
You will lose Market if you remove Talk!
That said, before you remove anything, I suggest you back it up. TB will even allow you to "Freeze" an app before removing it to see what effect the removal will have.
Best of luck removing the bloatware!

I'm curious what kinds of ill effects you saw from removing Talk? I wonder if HTC may have changed the integration of Talk within froyo, as I have seen no ill effects from removing talk. Maybe there is some kind of heinous error I am overlooking?

thanks for the input - I'm trying to nail down an app that seems to be draining my battery, and I don't know what it is.
HTC/Google may well have changed the integration in FroYo but I know in Eclair everything was tied in with it. I'm going to freeze it and see what happens.
Edit: It appears the GTalk provider that was heavily integrated into previous versions of Android is no longer included in FroYo making it possible to safely remove the Talk app. Woo-hoo!

I rooted my phone and kept the stock Eclair for about 2 weeks, till I had the time to check out the roms. I removed all of those AND GOOGLE TALK immediately after rooting. I never received the 1st error/problem from uninstalling Talk. If I remember correctly, there were 2 Talk items(service and storage...I think) that I removed. If you only removed 1, maybe that's where there errors were coming from.
I also removed it in a stock Froyo with no negative effects.
EDIT: Didn't remove the weather though. I left that on.
When I was on stock Eclair I removed both the service provider and the app which caused the Market and other system apps to stop working. How many times do I have to repeat myself? Look it up, it is a common issue!
When I was on stock Eclair I removed both the service provider and the app which caused ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to stop working. The Market and other system apps WORKED PERFECTLY FINE. How many times do I have to repeat myself? I don't need to look it up, it was not an issue for me!......as it may not be for some others......
Whoooa there seems to be some blue-dispute going on in here! My money's on the dragon cause a dragon would take a beast any day. J/K guys...
Seriously though, OP you can remove all the ones you've listed safely except the last two weather and news/weather. I don't know how your phone would react because I've never removed those. You could make a custom rom yourself based off one of the stock roms and remove everything you think you want gone and then nandroid your current rom and flash the experimental and see what shakes loose. Just an idea.
Does anyone use this app? I've installed it out of curiosity and found TONS of apps that start after boot. Will pruning down this list speed up my phone at all?
I've disabled some of the apps I never use such as Mail, FM Radio, Facebook for HTC Sense, Flickr, etc. Can I go further and disable apps I DO usem but stop them starting on their own?
Some of the ones I'm thinking of are Peep, FaBook Chat, HTC Widget Downloader.
And what's Open Sense Plugin Manager?
Can I disable Bug Report? Is Rosie Utility needed since I run ADW Launcher?
Updater? DRM Protected Content Storage? Media Storage? HTC Message Uploader?
Finally, am I wasting my time with all this?!!
Why not just test it out? Try removing a few apps from start up and then reboot the phone.

Because I'm lazy and stupid, and wondered if someone else had done the hard work already, lol!
it wont stop apps starting, just stop them at boot, apps can start themseleves at any time so you will prob see all the apps running after a few mins anyway
Most apps in that list are not infact apps but widgets for apps.
I dissable everything (after boot) that I know I won't be using the widgets for.
I also dissable in "sms recieved" - Messaging, this is because I don't use stock messaging, I use handcent.
Just read all the headings, go down and dissable things you think you will never use in those situations.
If things don't play nice then you can always untick them again.
I applied the latest RUU for the Droid Incredible (November 2010 Edition). In the past, I always updated the phone, Got Root Access and performed a Nandroid Backup before removing all the Bloatware/Crapware on my phone.
However, this time I am getting very different results.
After the Nandroid, I delete everything I don't want via Root Explorer. I would delete the obvious ones such as City ID, VZ Nav, Teeter, and a bunch of HTC widgets like Footprints, Contacts Calculator, etc.
I was told that if I go into my settings and 'Clear Data' on HTC Sense that it will get rid of the shortcut to the deleted widgets on the Add Widget Window. It always worked in the past except not on this release.
I have reinstalled the RUU several times to make sure it wasn't a n installation error (of course I am performing a wipe). Any one have any suggestions.
Also is there an updated list of what programs are safe to remove?
Thanks.
Why not flash a "senseless ROM"? there are a number of them out there. You lose the stock Rosie and are forced to use either ADW or Launcher Pro. They alsy delete many of the things you have no interest in keeping.
Just another option.
Because I like Sense. I love the HTC Calendar Widget, HTC Clock Widget (with the full screen weather animation), HTC Tip Calculator and the stock HTC Keyboard (Hence why there is also an equal amount of Sense ROMs out there too).
Nothing I have seen out there comes close to what I like.
I've always just used the system app remover from the market

Thanks. I'll give that a shot and report back.
Edit: No doesn't work. I uninstalled System App Remover and Got Refunded. It looks like it can't be done because even the Virtuous ROM has the same issue. Oh well maybe in time someone will figure it out.

I would try removing the apps with Titanium Backup if you haven't. That's what I normally use to remove bloatware. If you "Freeze" the apps, the widgets may be removed, also.
Also, could someone let me in on the secret for adding a custom signature with my ROM/Kernel/Radio/Phone/etc.? I'm new to XDA.
The widgets are gone it's the shortcut for them that need to be removed. RMK had a method of removing these prior to Froyo update 1 which doesn't work anymore.
If you know what the app names are, you can use 7 zip to remove the apk's from the app folder before flashing the Rom.

It works. It gets rid of the garbage shortcuts now. However, you can't put widgets on your homescreens anymore. Very weird. Because the widgets I want to put on my screen are installed.

I'll give that a shot too. However, without even doing it, I think it won't work because of the SQL entries left behind.
I am just being real anal. The garbage widgets shouldn't bother me but I want it to be clean.

Did you ever manage to work out how to remove the deleted widgets from the list?
flashed oxygen rom last night and although its fast there is a distinct lack of features compared to 2.2 sense stock
no google maps or navigation, no youtube and a load of other things
what gives?
They're removed as you can download them yourself from the Market so don't need to be included in the ROM. Simple really
It is meant to be clean, all the stuff you mention you can download from the market. If you can't download it form the market it's probably a sense feature.
And opening a new thread for this makes no sense
can google navigation be downloaded off the market?
with the voice instructions when using gps
It's part of Google Maps, as you can see here:

hmmm i might reflash oxygen this weekend then
only played with it for an hour last night
does anyone know how to do the app cube on oxygen
seen it on youtube when the app drawer was open the user could spin a 3d cube with the apps on each face
how do you do that on oxygen?
Pretty sure it's a different launcher, Oxygen uses Zeam. If you've got a video I'll check it out
ADW Launcher has a 3D cube interface and LauncherPro can enable a 3d effect app drawer as well.

cheers
are both those options free? or a paid app on market?
ADW comes in free and paid for versions, with more functions in the paid one
Flashed oxygen too. Syched contacts from gmail, facebook and skype, but they are not linked and I can't find how to link them???
Ditto...

Same problem I have with the rom. its super fast but my contacts are used a lot ( it is a phone right) and not having my contacts sync properly is kind of a deal breaker for me.... That and the whole video thing with the gingerbread series of builds...

I know about that feature but what I'm talking about is the contacts not syncing properly at all with either twitter or, mostly, facebook contacts.

I found that, but it's pain to join hundreds contacts knowing that I had done it before and it should link most of them automatically.
Does all 2.3 roms have this problem?
Contact sync (I assume Facebook pic sync, birthday calendars, events, etc) are part of the stock sense.
You can replace all of them using apps from the market (free and paid ones...depending on what you want)
E.g:
For facebook pic sync you can use SyncMyPic
For birthdays Ebobirthday
Just google how to include the birthday calendar in your google calendar (pretty cool feature of google calendar that I didnt know was there until I played with this)
As a launcher...I use launcherPro (IMHO, the best one on the market after trying pretty much everything out there). Using the paid version to get a pretty cool (better than the sense one) People widget. It also have a "FriendStream" like widget if that is what you want.
Pretty sure Oxygen will be changing the default laucher as Zeam seems to be not longer maintained (which is a shame...it was pretty good)
PS: sorry, I cant post URL until XDA allows me to
The "Cubed" launcher can be found in the app store if you search "Steven Lin"
As an FYI that is the GingerBread [2.3] launcher. its pretty cool

It'll do them automatically if you have the same name saved on your phone as it appears on Facebook. If not, you'll have to manually join them. No way of getting around it
Hi guys,
been searching and reading through the forums for quite some time, and I've heard different reports about which system apps are safe to remove (or freeze with Titanium, like I prefer to do). From what I understand, you will get error messages if you remoce HTC Twitter for example. What other cross-program dependencies are there? Anyone have a list over system apps that are safe to remove?
Thanks
Edit: running ARHD 3.2 (with sense) on buzz 1.3.8 BTW
Bumping to see if anyone has any info.
Has anyone noticed that removing a certain widget or htc apk makes the phone or other apps unstable?
For example, from what I understand, removing gtalk disables gmail. Any other examples? I'd really appreciate if someone were able to point me in the right direction. In the mean time I will nandroid my ROM and start experimenting.
One thing though: I know that the phone does a reboot for every app that you force remove through titanium, but do I need to reboot after freezing each app?
Will report back my findings when I get around to it if there's any interest..
