[Q] Cannot unroot due to HTC Sync disconnection - Desire General

Hey guys, pretty much what the title of the thread says. I try to unroot my phone via the HTC sync root, and when I click on the RUU to downgrade the phone, it instantly connects and I get an error message telling me to connect the phone.
Does anyone know how to cure this? It's been driving me crazy for ages now, wish I never rooted my phone in the first place!
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks...

Lol rooting is better than that stock crap from htc.
If it's disconnecting maybe reinstall the drivers. Pretty sure there is another thread around here somewhere.

You can also run the RUU when the phone is in fastboot. Turn the phone off, turn it on again holding the back button and when on the white fastboot screen connect to the PC and run the RUU again

Tried that mate, and now I have a black screen, I think it's bricked it.
I know its turned on though because it vibrates & my pc still recognises it.
Any idea what I do now?
My ROM or RUU whatever its called is... 2.12.110.4 & I'm on T-Mobile.

I want to unroot because me Desire started acting weird since I rooted. Started rebooting all the time & not full booting up. Had enough of it.

Which RUU did you use? As there isn't a FroYo T-Mobile one chances are you've flashed one for an AMOLED screen and you have SLCD

I think this one is the one I tried first...
RUU_Desire_C_Verizon_WWE_2.36.605.1_release_signed_with_driver
Then I tried...
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8_Radio_32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed
Been getting the 131 error & 140 error. I don't have a clue on what to do to fix this... As you can tell, I'm totally new to this lol.

Well, the first one wouldn't work at ALL as it's for American CDMA Desires so thank god that didn't work!!

Thanks for the link mate, will try now.
BTW, will I need to do a gold card or something?

Didn't work. Got the 131 error again. Arghhh, this is driving me crazy!

To get a froyo desire branded by t-mobile you have to run a special method:
Download these two files:
CustomRUU
2.12.110.2-1.21.110.4_release3uop1mw9unpc376h.zip
1.) Move the ota on your sd card and rename it into "update.zip"
2.) Run the installer. It extracts all needed files into a folder of your choice.
3.) Installer should start script automatically. If not, run "installer.bat" manually.
4.) Follow the instructions to the end.
5.) You are now in fastboot mode. Press power button to get into hboot.
6.) Choose recovery and enter with power button.
7.) If the red triangle shows up, hold volume up button and press power button. Now choose "Apply sdcard:update.zip"
When this operation is finished, you have a desire branded by t-mobile running froyo rom.
Sometimes the phone crashes when you install apps from the market. To fix this do the following:
1.) Turn off the phone
2.) Boot phone into hboot (start it with pressed volume down and power button)
3.) Navigate to "CLEAR STORAGE" and enter it.
This comment wipes the phone (so you loose all data) and resets all settings. After a reboot the market should work.

Ah man looks like I'm gonna need a micro SD card adapter...

Is there anyway possible that I don't have to do anything with my SD card & can just use a RUU just to fix it??

You have to use an sd card to get your working again, as far as i know.
Even if you want to run a stock froyo rom without any branding, you have to create a goldcard with linux and putting it in your phone, before you can run the ruu linked by eddyos.
And by the way, micro sd card readers aren't that expensive.

[Resolved] I know there's a lot threads about bricked desires but...

More information added in my 3rd post below...
I've searched the forums, googled and tried praying to the smartphone gods and I can't find an answer. Maybe you guys can help.
I downloaded a ruu that got half way through the process when it said I was using the wrong ruu and to instigate the recovery procedure - which I did. Unfortunately the phone didn't go into the white startup screen (the one you get if you hold the return key while turning on) with the recovery option, when rebooted, therefore preventing it's recovery.
The phone has the green charging light when pluged into usb but there is no 'HTC' screen or anything when trying to boot it. Just a black screen. I removed the battery and all I get is a vibration when turning it on and that's it, although on a few occasions the buttons on the bottom of the unit have lit up but to no avail.
Forgive me if the details are vague but it's all I have. I hope someone can help...

Do you have slcd desire and did you use the correct ruu?

I think I used the incorrect ruu; that's why it sent me to recovery mode. I think it's AMOLED which is why I picked the ruu I did but it is a 2.1 phone and I was trying to get to 2.2. I think I used the wrong ruu...
No, I don't have custom recovery.
Thankyou for helping so quickly.

Anyone have any idea? I get the feeling this phone is truely bricked...
Which ruu did you use to begin with? Was it previously branded?
A generally safe way to recover any phone is to flash the froyo ruu, but you may need a goldcard for that. Start the phone in fastboot mode to get the ruu to work.

The issue is it won't go into fastboot. Just a black screen when I try to turn on the power. The ruu failed and said it couldn't see the phone and to remove the battery and then power on to recover the original rom - that's when it started not working.
I know how to get the fastboot screen but with this phone the screen will not come on.
The ruu i used was: RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121865.exe
It was branded to t-mobile and was trying to debrand it. I created a goldcard as well. I have all the drivers needed on my PC but my PC can't see the Desire via USB. USB bricked solutions won't work because I can't get the phone to power up - well the buttons on the bottom light up and the phone vibrates but that's it.
Perhaps my first bricked phone?
Al
don't worry. because of the feedback you are getting (buttons lighting up, green charge light and vibrate on startup), it is not a true brick. it should be recoverable.
edit: try this (edited from here)
(Remember to remove PB99IMG.zip from your GoldCard before copying update.zip)
1. Make sure the update.zip (NOT update.zip.zip!) file is on your goldcard and correctly named.
2. Take the battery out first to ensure the phone is powered off. Then hold vol down and press the power button, and hold vol down for about 5 seconds. That will get you into the bootloader even though you can't see it.
3. Press vol down once. This will select recovery.fastboot is already selected
4. Press the power button once. This will start the recovery.this will start fastboot The phone will vibrate briefly.
4a. plug in your desire into your computer. there should be a *ding* sound from the computer recognising it.
4b. Run the .exe you have downloaded. wait for it to finish. TBH I havent installed an ruu from an .exe before. I presume it is pretty straightforward. after this installs you should be able to reboot your device and be away.
5. Wait 20 seconds or so. Then press vol up and the power button and wait a few seconds. You'll now be in system recovery.
6. Press vol down once to select 'apply sdcard:update.zip'.
7. Press the power button once to start the recovery.
8. After a few seconds press the power button once again.

if you don't trust the ruu you have got, I recommend you download a fresh one that suits the screen you have (whether it be slcd or amoled).
Yeah I have tried that but I am downloading another ruu as I type.
The hboot on this phone was 0.75. Can you (or anyone else) recommend a ruu to suit?
Thanks for the input. I'll keep plugging away...

Ok. The phone isn't bricked but I still have the black screen.
The update.zip didn't work as per here but I have successfully installed ruu:
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed
I still get the BSOD (Black Screen Of Death), though.
Anyone have any thoughts on a ruu I should install or do I need to try a different process? Also, how do I find my screen version? I can't see the screen - is there a prog I can use???
Thanks for the help.

I dont think there is a program to identify them, I read elsewhere that even HTC doesn't have systems to show which IMEIs were shipped with SLCD or AMOLED displays at this time.
ala the SLCD Brick page, have you tried the ruu they provide? http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...1.00.32U_4.08.00.09_release_137222_signed.exe

Now you've got that ROM the next step is to go to 2.2 (which you can do now or wait for the OTA updates to start again). Just make sure you leave your gold card in (if you had to use one in the first place)

Thread stalking is fun, I see which thread you are reading, but you may have to reset you phone.
Do you either:
Have a recovery installed (if you aren't sure, then you may not)
have a PCIMG36 on the root of your sdcard, (if you aren't sure then you may not)

Need Help
I know this is an old thread, but I'm working on an old phone. Hopefully some of you guys are still following this.
My father has an EVO 3D that showed up one day stuck on the white HTC screen. The only remedy was to pull the battery. I thought it would be no big deal to just go into the boot menu and either try and run recovery, or at worst do a factory reset. Both of these options failed. I even made a few attempts at trying from the SD card with a ROM or two. So I downloaded the RUU direct from HTC thinking that would finally take care of the problem. But after connecting up in FASTBOOT mode and running the RUU, it eventually fails when the update gets to the point that it's supposed to restart the phone in bootloader mode. Because at that point the phone just restarts to the white HTC logo again, and the software times out telling me that it can't connect to the device. Any help here other than passing me a trash can Thanks in advance!

Tried vol down and power? Will boot into bootloader.
Your phone isn't bricked. Its in debug mode. Pull battery and do volume down + power to see if you can get into the bootloader, if you can you aren't bricked, load up an RUU and you should be good.

Yes if you have an SLCD this is your problem. When you downgrade to 2.1 you have no drivers for your screen. Pull the battery, hold down and then hit power. Set your phone down for 10 minutes or until hboot loads. Make sure that you have this PB31IMG.zip in the root of your sd and then upgrade it. It took a while for my hboot to load. So give it some time. If that doesn't work try booting with trackball and power.
How do I know what kind of screen I have?
and where do i get an ruu?

This is the ruu EXE. I dont know quite whether it works for SLCD, but its a resource.
If you recover by loading the PB31IMG in hboot, you'll need to also format your SD card to FAT32 if it isn't already. Might be a slight point of contention if you don't have a USB card reader or another device which can interface the card with a PC.
Might be easiest to run the RUU on a Windows computer. Link above looks perfect, it's the latest.
Download to PC, hook up phone via USB cable and lanuch the RUU program then follow instructs. I despise HTC Sync but in this case, might be easiest to go ahead and load it to your PC before you run the RUU. It'll allow the RUU to function properly (all this all assumes Windows). I'd delete HTC Sync when done if it were me. It can be problematic in other regards.
I am 99% sure that the phone dosent boot past hboot... so the above method wont work correct?
The 2 ways to do it are:
1.) go into hboot and have the PB31IMG already on your SD card. Once in hboot, it should recognize the PB31IMG and you press volume up to load. However, as mentioned it'll likely fail if you have not formatted your card to FAT32 at some point.
2.) Forget about hboot. Pull your batt, replace it and start the phone even though you can't see what's up. You should feel it vibe and in reality it's working, you just can't see anything on the screen due to the lack of drivers as previously mentioned. So hook up phone to USB port on PC and with HTC Sync installed, launch the RUU you downloaded from 3 posts up. It runs on Windows and loads the software to the phone via the USB charging cable.
I have grown tired of these downgrade posts on multiple forums. Instead of writing a "how to" in 50 posts I have made one
You downgraded, welcome to the land of suck.
And OP you phone does boot and works quite well minus the screen. To prove the point boot it up and call it.
OP,
Go with Doug's link. Great description and is using the same files already posted here. Just much better instructs to follow.
Alright thanks trying that now

Desire HD stuck on welcome screen after 2.3 update

Hello everyone,
im in urge need of help. I somehow failed while updating to 2.3 :/
I thought that the update was done since the loading bar went to the right and stood there for a good couple of minutes. So i took the battery out. Now as i turn the phone on i only get to see the htc sign on a white background.
I tried holding the volume down key and the power button at once. I get into the recovery menu or whatever it is called. There i've chosen factory reset: i can see a update screen again. The bar doesnt move from left to right though. After 15 sec the phone resets itself and i can see the htc logo again
Recovery only shows me a phone image with a exclamation mark
I never installed anything custom on the phone. It is as i bought it from the shop. I initially had 2.2 on it.
Anyone help please
I will guess you need to put a ROM file on your SD card and select install file from sd card in recovery. If something went wrong during update you proberly dont have a Android system installed right now.
But if your on stock rom I'm not sure if that will be possibl, but hopefully somebody with more knowledge could answear that...
Good luck
If you pulled the battery while it was updating something like the radio, then you have messed it up.
I'd suggest downloading the Gingerbread RUU and trying it again. Sadly you may now lose all the data on you phone.

Click the link in my sig, head to RUUs and download the Gingerbread RUU. Once downloaded, plug you handset into your computer, run the RUU~.exe .
If that fails to work, with the RUU~.exe still running open a search window on your computer and search for "rom.zip", I will be in a hidden temp folder somewhere in your userdata.
Rename this rom.zip to "PD98IMG.zip" and copy to your SDcard. Now turn off your phone, and power on while holding volume down. The bootloader should see the PD98IMG.zip and flash it for you.

i just get this error "Device "/sbin/sh: getprop: not found" is not supported at this time"
Its possible you haven't done much research.
1) Maybe in recovery, if you pressed the power button to flash a rom, you would find it switched off the screen. Pressing power again (if this was the case) would turn the back on. You could then use trackball to select
2) RUU's starting 1.x are Eclair Roms. They more often than not do not support SLCD screens so this could have given you an SLCD Brick.
If you get wrong version, it hasn't flashed anything at that time so the RUU shouldn't have broken anything, although now you are getting USB errors, sounds like you needed to do the USB brick fix
You say when you try to get into hboot, you get nothing? define nothing clearly please? Have you removed the battery at all since any of this?
People, please understand what it is you are doing before doing it. If you dont understand something, ask before doing it. If I am right about the above, nearly bricking a phone because the wrong button was pressed in recovery has to be about the most extreme case of this sort of thing I have seen.
Yes i have removed the battery and tried to get hboot but nothing
So does this mean i am goosed then?
What do you mean nothing? does it vibrate? Please go into detail
Please can you guide me to the correct stock rom for my phone? it is on t-mobile UK?
The phone now says Android bootloader interface in device manager
Could you also tell me how to do the usb brick fix?
Yes it vibrates once and thats it.
It also vibrates once when i plug in the usb
Im not telling you anything unless you answer my questions. Sorry to be brutal, but you're not helping yourself here
Edit, Thank you.
It still looks like an SLCD brick to me. I can't for the life of me figure out how if it got wrong bootloader version though...
I dont mind you being brutal it will learn me not to make the same mistake again
I am really grateful for you helping me

Ok, lets take our time with this, I dont think tonight is our night as shipped roms appears to be down so we can't necessarily get the latest TMO RUU from there. Also it may not be the latest.
Have you got:
1) A goldcard?
2) A card reader?
sorry i havent got a gold card but i have a card reader

OK well you have the most important one that we need. Wit a card reader we can make a goldcard.
Follow the below link to make a goldcard using your reader. You need to format the card, so ensure you back it up first.

Wait a second for it to jump to the right point of the thread.
Incase I am not around for the entirety of this, here is what we are doing.
1) making a gold card
2) Downloading an unbranded RUU 2.28.405.5
3) Booting to fastboot and trying to run the RUU
If that fails, we are going to have to try the PB99IMG.zip method for the same rom, blind.
Get on with the goldcard and come back when you're done. Use this link: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20471345/SUroot/Tools/PC/GoldCard Tool.rar to download the actual goldcard tool
i keep getting this error Could not locate CID in output
