Stock browser pinch to zoom much smoother - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

Hi guys, why is the stock browser so much smoother when it comes to pinch to zoom compared to Dolphin HD browser? Are there any special tweaks that i can make it smoother within Dolphin's browser?
thanks guys!

That's GPU rendering taking effect I guess.

Thanks my friend! So the browsing on the stock browser does have a better experience after all Anyone have other recommendations?

Galaxy S II has the fastest browser dude! See the YouTube comparison video of the S II with the Sensation and other phones regarding web browsing (pocketnow video)

its the hardware acceleration
from what i understand the GUI is also hardware accelerated
NO lag at all
just like the IOS and WP7 which from what i understand is also hardware accelerated
android should have been like this in the beginning what was Google thinking !

man and all this time I was using dolphin browser cos i got use to it so much on my HD2!
NOW how do i import those bookmarks to the default browser?

Try boat browser. Its as smooth as the built-in browser

Just tried Boat Mini Browser my friend. Same as the others. Not as smooth as default browser when it comes to pinch and zoom. I am real picky abouy that as if try to do it with any other browser, it feels jaggedly like it is eratic or out of control. It is alittle better with 2 hands but definitely alot worse with 1 hand. Just compare the differences when you open up the same page with the default browser and any other...wish there were some tweaks for these alternative browsers.

I find boat mini to be just as smooth as stock, love it.3

It's GPU Acceleration, the UI elements are converted into textures which the GPU handles well. Same method Apple uses for it's UI rendering.
That is why the SGS2 feels so much more smoother than other android phones, not the processor.

You should try Opera Mobile. Very smooth and reflows text at any zoom level.

Tried almost all mentioned: Opera, Firefox, Boat, Dolphin HD & Mini, Miren...all about the same but nothing came close to the default browser. I think that Opera Mini was smoothest out of all the others. Remember this is about pinch to zoom, and not about scrolling and other browsing features.

That´s not true... your´e right with the other ones but opera mobile is as well hardware accelerated.

yes but, on dolphin as u zoom in the text is always readable and on the stock pinch zoom is smooth but if you zoom in a lot you have to actually pick your finger up so that the text is readable
i'd rather have an always readable text than smooth zoom with which I have to release my finger every time to see if the text is fine to read

Absolutely no way is opera mobile pinch to zoom is as smooth as the stock browser. I don't care if it is hardware accelerated or not. I thought it wasn't even as smooth as Dolphin HD. Tested that just now although there are tons of other features.

Absolutely.
The Stock browser is a lonely competitor of itself. Nothing can come close. I tried D-HD, Mozilla, Opera, D-HD is good, Opera is average or below and Mozilla is pathetic.

Sense browser on CM7?

is it possible? because even though the stock 2.3 browser is good it isn't as smooth as the sense browser when zooming in or out and navigation.

They are actually the exact same browser, the Sense browser is just skinned to match the sense theme.
You should give Opera 11 Mobile a try, it's the fastest, smoothest browser I've ever used on Android.

Dolphin Browser is also a top choice for many people. I use it daily, it's awesome and very fast.
But I still like the stock browser best. I've tried all those browsers.

CM9 Browser

Im using the dolphin and is it just me or is the browser very sticky? When you zoom it gets very blurry. The scrolling up and down is very sticky. This didnt happen when i was using a GB Rom.

Apex Launcher..laggy?

I've been using nova for a month or so. Pretty nice, but lacks in features. So i stumbled upon apex and it seemed really rich and nice, especially the previews. The only problem.. is that its really lagggy.. and it uses like 80mb ram + How can i make it not lag like in app drawer and going to previews. I have force gpu thingy in developer options enabled. I have aokp jb rom and trinity 1420mhz cpu and 537 gpu kernel
It's just sluggish in general, on stock and nova. If i rapidly scroll through the appdrawer and the widgets. No problem no lag. But with apex it struggles to load the widget icons when scrolling and lags. And it shows in normal use

Yeaaaaaah I had that as well. Just down to coding I believe. So now I switched to codenandsammy using the touchwiz port... honestly is so damn smooth its a joke. Couldn't tell you how to fix the apex lag issue.

What's that? I really want to know!
Apex launcher has lately lost its speed. Just not so great anymore.

Oh go to the android development thread and look for codenanesammy. Back up your ROM and flash it, really worth it. Make sure your gnexus is gsm model

holo launcher HD is pretty neat aswell, brings a ton of options. bases on googles original launcher2.
I've been using Nova since I got ICS and I love it. No lag and no complaints. Smooth as butter. Sometimes the CPU governor can cause some lag (like conservative or powersave). Double check to make sure that either of those aren't set.
Apex Launcher has become increasingly laggier recently. I switched over to Nova when it was on sale, and it's been so much smoother for me. Little to no lag or stuttering going through homescreens or when bringing up the app drawer.

Another gallery app? Stock gallery is boring

Hi,
I really dislike the nexus 4 stock gallery app. It's grey background etc looks really boring. Is there a better gallery app? Maybe from note 2 or galaxy s3? The stock gallery is not really changeable..

Best gallery app ever is still Quick Pic imho. It's nothing fancy like 3d but it's super fast and easy to use for cutting or resizing pics.
Try the Sony album posted back on the gnex forum. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1820232 Pinch effect is neat to play with and show off.
There is a newer version posted towards the end of the thread. Works great on 4.2.1 except for sharing (fc).
IMO QuickPic is pretty nice. You should check it out

Screen transitions on T310

Hello, do you guys also noticed that sometimes screen transition is laggy? Is there any chance to get different ones, especially those which are not using 3D effects, like regular side to side plain slide? Of course without any different launcher.
I'm on GalaTab3 overhauled rom which is a bit faster than stock but still transition is laggy a bit.

I'm using T311 stock rooted.
It does lag a bit IF I swipe immediately after exiting an app or unlocking the screen. It only happens on those occasions.
Have you tried clearing your ram?
Sure, constantly. But this is not lagging at all in typical sense, I think it is just overdone animation. I tried othet launchers and I had to do unbelievable things to make it lag. Maily because I used regular slide side to side transition without any 3D effects. I also tried one launcher which had that new 3D glass effect looking like you turn big thick sheet of glass, and nothing!!! Works perfect.
I just need someone to create recompiled kernel, rom or something, but stock with plain screen slide animation instead of factory default 3d page turning one. Stock firmware is quite good just transition is crappy, reminding me of cheap tablets.
