If you get this error while trying to install mango:
"Checking if your phone is dev unlocked...
Failed. Please try the following
1) Connect the phone
2) Launch Zune software and wait for it to connect to the device
3) Close Zune software
4) Restart the tool. "
and if you use Windows Phone Device manager it might be some problem with that.... IM not quite sure but for me unistaling WPDM and resetting the phone worked
I know it sucks but at least i have mango now
I hope i was able to help you
I think you need to unlock SPL. like HD2. if your device comes from HTC
Did you run the "Windows Phone Developer Registration" (from latest version of Developer Tools, released 29th of June)?

Locking... Was it all Zune?
I was wondering, since Chevron was able to work only with Zune, and if you wish to install
a new update on your device, you must update the Zune first.
Is there a possibility that Zune is the one that makes all the problems?
Maybe they altered the ports that Zune uses to comunicate with WP7 device,
and since the chevron used HTTPS, they're not compatible any more,
and therefore, they can not comunicate.
I know it sounds like conspiracy theory, but i was checking protocols and have found some inconsistencies...
Maybe im wrong...
Your opinions?
NoDo doesn't require an extra Zune update, so no.

Unfortunately, pre-Nodo aksed for Zune to update...
At least it asked me to update it...
That's where my doubts come from
for me, when i couldn't get wp7 unlocked i noticed that either zune or windows was changing the host file just as chevron tried to connect... no matter what i did ie changed values , edit user rights, even tried system with read only rights ,... something kept changing the host file to "my ip.windowsdevelopers.com" now i use a win7 instalation in a virtual drive with no zune or windows updates at all. seems to work for me..
Interesting solution...
I have tried installing Zune on another computer and tried to run Chevron,
but no luck... All I'm getting is error, that Chev. can't make connection with device.
Current state of OS: Build 7008 (That's pre-Nodo right?)
Cheers!
yep 7008 is pre nodo... i unlocked with chevron with that os. used vmware workstation. clean install of win7 (no updates except windows phone 7 usb drivers) then zune. unlocked first time.
you may have to re set your phone?
Well i did hard reset my phone for a couple of times, but had no luck...
I shall wait now... I will probably try some more on other computers, but
if I don't succeed, I will play by MS rules and do the NoDo.
After that, the waiting for a jailbrake shall be waited upon
P.S. A question, bit off topic.
Is there any way to insert custom ringtone to a non-Cheved device?
I can't access My Ringtones folder via Windows Explorer, even though
i changed registry on my computer to be able to access the phone as
a regular usb device...
Tnx up front, for any info provided
not really.... even if you did put them in your music folder zune on your phone doesn't seem to read the id3 tags and calls them unknown without names.
try..... fresh install win7 then connect phone aand get drivers... then zune... then chevron,
Yep, that's the problem with ringtones, or music at all...
I will try that with Win7, because i curently have no other options
Anyway, many thanks for your help!
Instructions:
1. All contents must be extracted to a local disk, not a backup/external disk. I can recommend to put all contents of the extracted Mango folder directly to C:/ (If you got enough available space)
1a. C:/NoDoToRC
1b. C:/RCToRTM
1c. C:/Zune
2. Install the zune beta client version 4.8.2134.0 (comes with the downloaded file)
3. If necessary (usualy is), run the flashing tool "updatewp" from the folder "update tool" install right version for your system, 32 or 64-bit
4. Connect Device via USB to the PC
5. Close Zune software if it opens when connecting
So I have the current version of zune at the moment and I'm on step 2. DO I have to delete the latest version and install the older beta version to continue updating from NoDo to Mango 7720RTM?
Yes, I know the official update is available, but not for me and I read somewhere that if I go to the RTM version I will then get the notification to updae to official mango..
So please answer my question and this can be deleted
Yes, you need to uninstall zune and then install the beta zune as it contains the updatewp files that match accordingly. I saw somewhere on here someone who had an updated updatewp that matches zune 4.8.2345 but I cannot locate it right now.
Have you tried the click update over and over again in zune while disabling and enabling your internet?? I know of 2 HD7s and 3 Trophys that have gotten the official 7720 update doing that!!
Yes I have tried that disconnect trick so many times but no luck I'll delete zune and install the older beta Hopefully I can then continue without problems...
lol another question:
I have made it to the point that my phone is now on 7403. Then it said that there is another update available which I think is 7712? Now it says roughly translated "please wait. Searching for free diskspace required for the update."
It has been like that for 20 minutes now, what do I do now? Wait? Cancel it and start searching for updates again in the settings->phone->update in zune?
I've never seen that error... If you are on 7403, and your phone is accessible by touch, then I would disconnect your phone, reboot PC and phone, and try again.
Good luck!
This is for anyone that has their phone where they want it and do not want the latest OEM driver updates that tend to have an impact on interop-unlock capabilities (we know of Samsungs and HTC latest doing this).
I see lots of people who have updated the OS using CAB sender methods (myself included) and want the ability to keep IU abilities for highest privileges and to apply IU after a hard reset. I also know the latest drivers can cripple this so I tell my phone to ignore updates (I don't need them or have work arounds).
But, when I plug my phone into my PC and launch Zune I get an update notification every time and I have to say "update later". Very annoying...
So, I have a solution:
Go into C:\Program Files\Zune and rename the file UpdateWP.exe to UpdateWP.exe.t and Zune is not able to do Windows Phone Update and ignores the updates. I can always rename it back later if I want it enabled again.
If I try to do an update manually from Zune I get an error that it can't complete right now and gives an error code. Everything else seems to still work fine.
Just passing this along.
P.S. Yes, this will stop Zune from showing ANY updates including OS so be aware. Visit XDA regularly to see what latest WP OS updates there are
I don't have an "UpdateWP.exe" in that directory...

Make sure your folder view is set to show hidden and operating system files.
I've been looking into modding my Lumia 640 WP10, and it seems like most if not all of the apps involved require deploying with Windows Phone Power Tools. When I try to use it, it tells me the phone needs an update, and launches the Phone Tools Update Pack which always results in this message: "The update operation did not succeed. You can press Rescan to try reconnecting to the device. The exception code and error message is: 0x80004003 - Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
I have not been able to find any information about this particular error, and any assistance would be very helpful. I have already set the phone to developer mode and been able to deploy the root tool, but have been unable to do anything else without the power tools.
Same problem
I think the newest update is buggy. I was trying to do the same and keeps getting the same error. This might help you.
I'm not sure why the forum only emailed me for the first reply so I'm a bit late seeing yours, DaRealAce. I am not actually using an Insider build right now but thank you, that link did help. It's definitely not the same problem, but I was able to fix mine by using the Interop Tools app linked in that thread. Since that is an appx I was able to sideload it, making vcREG unnecessary. After going through the unlock settings in that app, I was able to deploy the AdBlocker app (my original goal) using the regular WP 8.1 Deployment Tool rather than WP Power Tools, which did not work previously.
Oddly though, somewhere in the process the phone no longer shows up on the PC as a mass storage device.

Dear,
A few months ago, I've upgraded my Lumia 925 to Windows 10 (preview) using Windows Insider: it went smoothly.
I decided to go back to WP8.1 using the Lumia Recovery Tool.
Today, I tried to update (again) to one of the Windows 10 previews, but I'm unable to upgrade: no updates found.
I know MS decided to exclude Lumia 925 to Windows 10 final: but: is there any possibility to upgrade to one of the developer previews?
When I download Windows Insider, I select fast ring: no updates are found (my account is enabled for developer previews).
Is this normal behaviour? I also tried to edit the registry to get Windows 10 redstone: unable to update: Update is downloading but when I try to install: unable to open update it says.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Pieter

Hey out there !
Upgrading to W10M works actually !!
Yesterday i upgraded my 925 from 8.1 Denim to W10M 10.0.14393.89
In Short:
All you need is the same 8.1 Firmware (.ffu)-File as is installed on your Phone.
Grab your FW on lumiafirmware Site
You need WP Internals 1.2 to unlock Bootloader and enable the Root access.
-YOU DIDNĀ“T need Root-Tool and vcreg and all the other Stuff, ONLY WP Internals !!
Reboot Phone
After that, you must Boot your Phone via WP Internals into the Storage Mode
On PC open regedit and point to your Phone, called MainOS
In Regedit, you load the Registry of your Phone and do some Hacks and write the registry back to Phone
Reboot your Phone, go to MS Store and download Windows Insider App, start it and register for the Insider programm.
All done, you can use the fast ring, Slow ring and Preview .
If you wish, i can do a complete tutorial here !

With the phone turned off, press and hold "volume up" + "power". Keep pressing them until you see a lighting with a gear. From there, flash using "Windows Phone Image Designer".
