Need a quick answer about going to 7720 RTM - Windows Phone 7 Development and Hacking

Instructions:
1. All contents must be extracted to a local disk, not a backup/external disk. I can recommend to put all contents of the extracted Mango folder directly to C:/ (If you got enough available space)
1a. C:/NoDoToRC
1b. C:/RCToRTM
1c. C:/Zune
2. Install the zune beta client version 4.8.2134.0 (comes with the downloaded file)
3. If necessary (usualy is), run the flashing tool "updatewp" from the folder "update tool" install right version for your system, 32 or 64-bit
4. Connect Device via USB to the PC
5. Close Zune software if it opens when connecting
So I have the current version of zune at the moment and I'm on step 2. DO I have to delete the latest version and install the older beta version to continue updating from NoDo to Mango 7720RTM?
Yes, I know the official update is available, but not for me and I read somewhere that if I go to the RTM version I will then get the notification to updae to official mango..
So please answer my question and this can be deleted

Yes, you need to uninstall zune and then install the beta zune as it contains the updatewp files that match accordingly. I saw somewhere on here someone who had an updated updatewp that matches zune 4.8.2345 but I cannot locate it right now.
Have you tried the click update over and over again in zune while disabling and enabling your internet?? I know of 2 HD7s and 3 Trophys that have gotten the official 7720 update doing that!!

Yes I have tried that disconnect trick so many times but no luck I'll delete zune and install the older beta Hopefully I can then continue without problems...

lol another question:
I have made it to the point that my phone is now on 7403. Then it said that there is another update available which I think is 7712? Now it says roughly translated "please wait. Searching for free diskspace required for the update."
It has been like that for 20 minutes now, what do I do now? Wait? Cancel it and start searching for updates again in the settings->phone->update in zune?

I've never seen that error... If you are on 7403, and your phone is accessible by touch, then I would disconnect your phone, reboot PC and phone, and try again.
Good luck!

Windows Phone Updates, like right now......

Disclaimer, use this at your own risk, if this voids your warranty I’m not being held responsible, blah blah all that junk.
Well, first, thanks go out for Microsoft for releasing a support tool for Windows Phone yesterday. Inside that tool, were unreal hidden gems.
Basically they’ve created a managed wrapper over the whole update process for us, rather nice of them.
So I flashed my HTC Mozart back to RTM (7004) via a ROM update HTC ship and whipped up a little application to flash pre-NoDo (7008), NoDo (7355), NoDo update 1 (7389) & NoDo update 2 (7390) all in a single process. No I don’t care which carrier you are on, which phone you have, it’ll just update your phone accordingly.
We really have to commend Microsoft here for being able to split up the OS updates into differential packs, which saves users downloading 200+ MB updates, unlike the IFruit updates.
All you need to do is run the ChevronWP7.Updater.exe console app and follow the prompts.
Make sure you select the RIGHT language for your device. To double check what your default language is, go to Settings > Keyboard and if your selected language is displayed in the Console app, you’re good to select it. If it isn’t in the list, DON’T flash it just yet.
Now, download the following files.
x86 Operating System (32 bit)
Windows Phone Support Tools
http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/5/4/15427EAF-AD42-4E4A-8179-9A3C5483E366/WPSupportTool-x86.msi

ChevronWP7.Updater
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=40MA6F02
Once you’ve installed the support tools and extracted the ChevronWP7.Updater.zip to the desktop, plug your phone in and wait 30 seconds.
Now start ChevronWP7.Updater.exe (this should kill Zune) and follow the prompts.
If you’re updating from Version 7004, you need to run the Updater TWICE, this needs the preUpdate before we can flash NoDo.
Again, if your language isn’t in the Chevron updater, DON’T attempt to update your phone. Some of the applications won’t work otherwise.
This “might” work for HD2 owners, haven’t tried it out just yet. If it does, report below and tell me .
There is NO revert process, again, flash at your own risk.
I flashed my Samsung Omnia 7 works fine
Big Tenks to walshie
If I do so like you suggest with my HD2 (WP 7.0.7004.0), he still asks to update the february update..
And I did it twice like suggested...
Thanks anyway!
It doesn't work for me but I still have to install the February update. Does anyone know if there is already a new rom with this update included?
Thx!
Works for me, Samsung Focus AT+T and had to run it twice to get both updates.
Source
Where does this method pull the updates from? Is it the same update being tested by AT&T for the Focus?
Didn't work for me...tried 4 times and kept getting some error, then got booted from the program...not sure what the deal is. Samsung Focus, AT&T
Sent from my SGH-i917 using Board Express
Also not working for me- Samsung Focus on AT&T. Program runs, reboots phone, seems to update, but on examination I'm still at 7004.
Sadly I should've resisted. I did this on my AT&T Samsung Focus, everything is great except I have no marketplace and no Zune functionality..

In the future, just link directly to my Blog, direct linking to the installers doesn't enable me to update them if there is an issue.
so i shouldn't be doing this if i have Samsung Focus on AT&T?

Hi, HTC Surround
I am updating and it goes to downloading update but fails to go any further. just closes chevron
Any Ideas
Updated fine, but after the update anything related with messaging (SMS's, E-mail some contacts) doesn't work. Orange HTC Mozart running branded 7008...
Chevronwp7update was removed from the site. Where else can it be downloaded from?
Same here HTC Mozart telstra
Sent from my T8697 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Updater seems to be offline?
Anyone has got updated Links or a mirror?
Thanks in advance
Ok, I installed the Debrander xap util and it debranded to 00-88. I then ran Zune and it showed update available. It upgrade phone to 7008 from 7004. But even after that running chevron update still fails.
Maybe it was pulled from the site due to unforeseen problems.
Btw, don't reinstall debrander over your original debrander as it loses the original carrier details no I cannot rebrand to at&t unless I do a reg hack *I think*

[Tutorial] Unlock your phone; prevent relock & prepare for updates!

@ Mods: I read the tutorials here on how to unlock Windows Phone 7 but most of the time I felt like there's missing some information. I know that there are already a lot of tutorials and guides but I thought it would be good to collect it a bit. If this thread is inappropriate feel free to remove it
-
Unlock your phone
[Developer unlock; ChevronWP7; Application Deployment]
1. Check the OS version of your phone
First step is to check which OS version your phone is running as ChevronWP7 doesn't work with NoDo (or higher) update installed on your phone. Just take a look at the following page on your phone: settings > about > more information.
7.0.7004 = compatible with ChevronWP7 | No updates installed; OS version when Windows Phone 7 was launched
7.0.7008 = compatible with ChevronWP7 | Pre-NoDo update installed
7.0.7390 = not compatible with ChevronWP7 | NoDo update installed
7.0.7392 = not compatible with ChevronWP7 | NoDo update installed; certificate update for security improvement installed
7.0.7401 = not compatible with ChevronWP7 | Pre-Mango update (BETA! NOT OFFICIALLY AVAILABLE YET!) installed
7.0.7661 = not compatible with ChevronWP7 | Mango update (BETA v1! NOT OFFICIALLY AVAILABLE YET!) installed
7.10.7712 = not compatible with ChevronWP7 | Mango update (BETA v2! NOT OFFICIALLY AVAILABLE YET!) installed
7.10.7720 = not compatible with ChevronWP7 | Mango update (FINAL - FOR DEVELOPERS ONLY! NOT OFFICIALLY AVAILABLE YET!) installed
If your phone is running an imcompatible version you've to flash a ROM which hasn't got NoDo installed. Take a look at xda-developers | Forums and scroll down to your device. Enter the development section and search for a flash guide and a machting ROM file. I can't explain the process more exactly as it depends on your phone model.
2. Install Zune software
If you don't already have the Zune software on your computer, follow this link and install it: zune.net
3. Add registry entry
Now you have to add a entry to your Windows registry. ChevronWP7 will need this entry to connect to your phone. There are several methods - use only one!
Method 1:
Install Windows Phone Developer Tools RTW. The entry will automatically be added.
The setup is enourmously big but later you'll need it anyway! So I really advise you to choose this method!
Method 2:
Download this .reg-file to your hard drive and execute it. Click "Yes" in the first popup and "OK" in the second one - the entry is now added.
Method 3:
Add the entry manual: Open up the registry editor (Command: regedit.exe | Default path: "C:\Windows\regedit.exe"). Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsPhone\ProxyPorts. If the folder/key doesn't exist yet, create it. Search for the entry DeviceReg. Create it if it doesn't exist: It's a 32-bit DWORD called "DeviceReg" with this data in it:
Hexadecimal: 69c5
Decimal: 27077
4. Check "hosts" file for "developerservices.windowsphone.com" entries
Now it's best to also edit the "hosts" file. Here's what you've to do:
Open up "Notepad" (Start - All Programs - Accessories - Notepad) - It's best to right click it and press "Run as administrator" in the menu. Else it could happen that you don't have the permission to edit the file. Then click on File > Open. Now copy this line:
%windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
and paste it in the line file name. Then just hit the enter key.
Now search for lines which contain developerservices.windowsphone.com. If you find such lines just remove them entirely. Finally press File > Save.
5. Install certificate on phone
Next step is to install the certificate from ChevronWP7 on your phone. The easiest way is to open up the browser on your device and type this URL into the adress bar:
db.tt/fFwKQIy
Consider the use of capitals and small initials letter!
(You don't have to install this on your computer)
After you opened the page you can see a big shield. Under the symbol there's a message saying "Press to open the file ChevronWP7.cer". Follow this instruction and confirm with install and ok.
6. Download and run ChevronWP7
To get the unlock tool follow this link and save the ChevronWP7.exe file somewhere on your hard disk. Now do the following steps:
- Connect your phone to the computer
- Wait for Zune to start up (If it doesn't start up, open it manually)
- In Zune click on the tab phone
- There you have to pay attention to two things:
- If Zune is syncing files to or from your phone just wait until it's finished
- Now check the relationship between Zune and your phone. If you can read something about a guest relationship you've to click on "Change Sync Relationship" and follow the instructions to get a full relationship.
- Keep sure that the device stays on the homescreen (where the live tiles are) for the next steps - the lockscreen mustn't be active! [Just touch the display and scroll up and down every few seconds to avoid this.]
- Run the downloaded ChevronWP7.exe and check the two boxes:
Ensure your phone isn't PIN-locked
Install certificate on phone using Internet Explorer at "http://www.chevronwp7.com/cert"
- Now finally click on the Unlock button - The button turns into Relock which means that your device is unlocked now. If this didn't work for you - with an error message coming up on your screen - try this:
Instead of using the latest version of Zune, try an older version. Here's a link where you can download version 4.7.01: Zune v4.701
Don't click the Relock button now! Just close ChevronWP7.
Leave Zune running in the background as we'll need it again in a few minutes.
Don't disconnect your device now! Continue with step 7 or your device will relock itself the next time you connect it and Zune identifies it.
7. Keep your phone unlocked
7.1 Install registry editor
As you can read above your device will be locked if you connect it again (Zune will identify your phone and lock it again). To prevent this we've to edit an entry of the phone registry:
First of all we need a registry editor for Windows Phone 7. Well, there's not a uniform way to edit registry on all devices (HTC, Samsung, ...), yet. So you have to search a registry editor which enables full registry access on your device. [I'll update this with some suggestions soon!] Then you've to open Start > All Programs > Windows Phone Developer Tools > Application Deployment on your computer. Select the downloaded .xap file (Registry Editor) and click on Deploy. Wait until the process is finished. Now disconnect your phone from the computer.
7.2 Modify the registry
Now open the Registry Editor on your phone. Now navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > DeviceReg.
Now scroll to PortalUrlInt, remove its value data and save it. Do the same with PortalUrlProd. Both entries should now be "empty" (but not deleted!).
8. Installing updates
8.1 Pre-NoDo & NoDo update:
After you've followed the steps of my tutorial, you can install both the Pre-NoDo and the NoDo update without loosing the unlock.
8.2 Mango update:
There's already a BETA version of Mango out there which is intended for developers - but with some additional steps you can also install it without being a developer (and even without having a developer unlocked phone)! This update WILL REMOVE YOUR UNLOCK AND DISABLE THE USE OF HOMEBREW APPS! -> You won't be able to sideload apps anymore and you won't be able to use tools like registry editors and file explorers! Basically, if you want Mango update + jailbreak you've to prepare your phone while running NoDo (or earlier). To explain the process shortly: There are official apps which read out files information and apply changes to the phones registry. Just imagine a connection managing application which has got one file for every single provider containing informations like APN, Passwords, ... . Okay, so while you're on NoDo you can add your own files to this application - but these ones won't contain information about a provider. Instead they'll tell your phone to change several registry entries. And example would be the "Connection setup" app for HTC devices. People can add a .provxml file to the app. Then they update to Mango with loosing the developer unlock but not the file. On Mango they open up the "Connection setup" (<- You have to use this official tool - sideloaded apps won't work at that time as you're not developer unlocked yet) and can see the entry of the .provxml: There will be several networks to choose from (e.g. "T-Mobile", "Vodafone", ...) and also a entry called something like "Developer unlock". Well, this is because of the .provxml file. Then you just have to choose and run this file and the changes will apply - your phone is unlocked again! Just search and you'll find much tutorials here on how to use provxml method on HTC, Samsung, ... devices. I unlocked my Omnia 7 running Mango BETA v2 using this method.

Wow, you're done! Now you can connect your device to your computer without loosing the unlock.
I'll try to always improve this tutorial and keep it up to date
Please click on "Thanks" if it helped you!
Please tell me if you find something disordered or mistakes. And please be kind as this is my first tutorial Thanks
Excellent. I think this combines everything that was missing from other tutorials, and it is very thorough.
I'm inspired to flash my Focus and unlock it (my old one bricked).
You should add some recommended apps for post-unlock. AccentChanger, Battery Meter, Ringtone installers, Screen Capture, etc.
Thanks And my english doesn't sound too crappy?
Much luck with your Focus

Ok. So installed Nodo on my phone a whiile ago. Carrier stock att. Is there a way for me to downgrade and install the chevron? CUz I dont think i can downgrade.
We need to know what phone model you have (HTC HD7 for example)
i have the HTC 7 Pro with 7.0.7392 OS. i hate now to not unlock my foon!!!!!
Aren't there old ROM files for HTC 7 Pro out there?
what?/ can i install a old rom on my foon??
Did you even read my tutorial? It says that you should look into the development section of your phone here on xda-developers. There are ROMs so I think there's also a way to flash them
I bought on ebay a Omnia 7, how do i know if the person who sold me made de unlock with the ChevronWP7...is there any way to see on the phone if the ChevronWP7 is apllied.
Thanks for your great tutorial.
First of all you've to look if there's homebrew installed on the phone. Something like 'Registry editor' for example. If not I guess the easiest way is to try to deploy an app to the phone. If it works it's unlocked, if not it is locked. And if Zune tells you to update: Don't do it until you followed my tutorial

So now i have to downgrade to the 7.0.7004 version, install the ChevronWP7, and then i can update with zune to the last version that i still be unlocked, is that correct?
Thanks
Correct

Build 7720 - keeping chevron and how to add more languages - discontinued support

I am not supporting this thread anymore, as mango updates is widely available now
Here is the RTM 7720 Mango for your wp7, download link at bottom of this post
UPDATE 15.08.2011:
Please read post #2 to see how I keep chevron unlock and add my native language to RTM 7720
1. THIS IS NOT A GUIDE ON HOW TO KEEP CHEVRON UNLOCK, THAT IS NOW COVERED (ON A HD7) IN POST #2 IN THIS THREAD. THIS GUIDE IN POST#1 IS JUST A TRANSLATED/EDITED INSTRUCTION FROM THE GERMAN ONE IN THE RAR FILE.
2. THIS UPDATE IS NOT DESIGNED TO BE DEVICE SPESIFIC, SO BUGS BECAUSE OF OUTDATED DRIVERS ETC CAN BE PRESENT. AND YOU MIGHT NOT GET DEVICE SPESIFIC SOFTWARE TO RUN PROPERLY ETC ETC.
3. ITS FINAL MANGO FROM MICROSOFT, BUT CARRIERS/OEM'S NEED TO ADD THEIR "MAGIC" FOR IT TO BE AT IT'S PRIME
4. IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE BASIC OF HOW TO FLASH, THEN YOU NEED TO RETHINK WHAT YOUR DOING, AND READ UP IN THE DEV SECTION OF WP7
I'm quite sure that DFT will soon release a unlocked and ready to flash for all, so there is also the possibility to wait for their release
I just reuploaded and repost here, the file comes from longshot442. Original thread here
I take no responsibility for whatever happens to your device.
You can't update to 7720 when coming from DFT 7713 or 7714
After flashing to my HTC HD7:

Caution: Do this at your own risk, no one is to blame if your update fails
Prerequisites:
-Phone with Nodo (7392), Mango 7661 (Beta) or Mango 7712 (Developer Beta)
-Micro-USB cable
-PC with at least 20 GB of free disk space on C: (Only needed if you want to backup your device)
-external hard drive or USB flash drive with up to 16 GB of free space (for the backup)
-1.5 - 2 hours available to flash from start, perhaps more if something go wrong, or if you accidentally make a mistake less if flashing from 7712
-Instructions might not work for you, perhaps you need to alter something? I'm sure you can figure something out ....and if you do, please post the sollution so others can benefit of you findings.
UPDATE 18.08.11:
Make backup of your 3'd party apps, visit this thread all questions regarding that app, ask them there
Instructions:
5a. ----If your device is allready using 7661 or 7712, go to Step 16
5b. You can also follow Ansars instructions on keeping Chevron unlock here
6. Open the "NoDoToRC" folder and run the file "ISV_Provisioning_Live.exe" with admin rights (right click on the file..)
7. The tool will now create a backup of the phone. This takes quite some time, depending on how much you have installed on your device.
8. The phone will reboot and are starting communication with a "special" update server. If necessary, enter PIN code if activated on your device
9. Please dont close the update tool until it say its finished.
10. In the directory "C: \ Users \ <user> \ AppData \ Local \ Microsoft \ Windows Mobile Update,"there should be the newly created backup folder with a cryptic name. Please feel free to copy the folder to a secure location (external hard disk, etc.) and keep safe!
Repeat to yourself many times: "Yes, I have copied my backup to a secure location"
11. Now start the Zune client (with your phone connected) and it will begin looking for updates.
12. Build 7403 will now be found found and installed.
13. After 7403 has finished updating, the update is moving seamless to 7712 - the public developer beta.
14. If everything is done properly: Congratulations, the phone is in now running build 7712
15. Close/exit Zune.
Now please pay attention:
16. Copy the "RCToRTM" folder to "c:\" and only there.
17. In the RCToRTM folder, locate the "ISVTo7720.bat" and run as admin /still right click on file...)
18. Several updates will be installed, and the phone might reboot a few times. If applicable, please enter the PIN code.
19. If everything went smoothly: Congratulations, the phone is now on RTM 7720
20. Show of your RTM to your friends..or w/e

My way!!!
My way to unlocked HTC HD7 with Mango RTM 7720 with my native language Norwegian. This guide can, and probably must be, adapted for other devices. But I wont do that here. This is just the way I did it with my HD7
This small guide requires that you come from a NoDo rom Chevron unlocked (I came from HD7 rom RUU_HD7_HTC_Europe_1.69.401.01_Radio_5.54.09. 21_22.33b.50.10U by ansar
Thx to the following ppl for the info I have collected/copied to make this guide:
Ansar
jemaho
Budniu
longshot442
Cotulla/DFT
and possibly more.
1. Download the package at the bottom of this post.
Included in the package is (Listing the things you need in there):
-Zune 4.7 / StartZuneLocal.exe
-WPSupportTool-x86.msi
-WPSupportTool-amd64.msi
-WP7 Deploy - Great tool to sideload, just drag a .xap file to the wp7-deploy.exe shortcut and it will deploy to your device.
-RegistryEditor 1.1.0.0.xap
-TouchXplorer.xap
-Unlock_Mango_XBMODDeployer.xap
-Update_Mango_XBMODDeployer.xap
Install to your PC in this order:
-StartZuneLocal.exe (If not allready on zune 4.7)
-WPSupportTool-x86.msi or WPSupportTool-amd64.msi depending on your system.
Optional:
Install theese if you don't allready have them (Not sure if required, but they wont do harm)
-dotNetFx40_Full_setup.exe
-vm_web.exe
-Win32OpenSSL_Light-1_0_0c.exe
-WP7AdsSDK.msi
2. If not done so, download the 7720 package from post 1 in this thread. That contains Zune 4.8 and other tools, and ofcourse the RTM 7720.
3. Be sure to have the latest chevron unlocked NoDo rom on your device.
a. If you don't have chevron NoDo rom, please follow ansars guide here. I won't cover that.
4. Connect to Zune 4.7 (4.8 might work also, but some have reported that it don't..there is sollution to that, but I wont cover it here)
5. Deploy these tools to your device using the WP7 deployment tool:
a. RegistryEditor, TouchXplorer and Unlock_Mango_XBMODDeployer.xap
6. This is how to add more languages then the default 5 languages that comes with the 7720 build:
a. Find you language code here if you don't know what your's is. Mine is Norwegian 0414, other examples is Japanes 0411, Netherlands 0413 and Russian 0419.
b. On your device, find and open the registryeditor you deployed in #5
c. Now enter HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\MUI\Available and add a new string. Now enter your locale, I used 0414
Name: 0414
Then enter you languages name in
Value: Norsk
If it was English/WWE then it would ofcourse look like this:
Name: 0409
Value: English
d. Exit the editor.
e. Next step in adding your language will not be done before after updating to 7403 (That is where I did it)
f. If you have added a language that Mango don't support, then the update to 7403 will fail. Or if you have done it incorrect/spelled wrong etc, then the update to Mango will also fail
7. How to keep chevron unlock when moving on from (in my case) 7392 to Beta 7403
a. If you don't allready have this: Run Marketplace, select HTC Apps and select and install HTC ConnectionSetup
b. Start XBMOD.Files.Deployer (Installed in #5) on your device, it will install a file called CustClear.provxml. Remember to uninstall XBMOD.Files.Deployer after its done.
c. Run TouchXplorer and copy CustClear.provxml from My Documents\My Ringtones\ to \Windows, then exit Touchxplorer.
d. DO NOT RUN CONNECTION SETUP NOW, IF YOU DO, YOU WILL LOOSE UNLOCK IN 7403.
e. Connect to Zune, and if it do not promt you to update to 7403, then check for update using settings in Zune.
f. Ofcourse....update your device to 7403.
g. Now on your device, go to settings/Region and language. If you have followed my guide correct, you should now see your language available, choose it and reboot.
8. Now that you should have your native language, we can move on to keeping chevron unlock after updating from 7403 to 7712.
a. Move to the 7720 package you have downloaded, and locate the Zune folder. In there is StartZuneLocal.exe, please run it to update to Zune 4.8.
b. After Zune have updated, locate the folder called UpdateTool (also in the 7720 zune folder) and choose the correct tool for your system and install it.
c. Connect your device to zune, and make sure its in sync mode, not guest mode.
d. If zune promts you a update, do not start it, just skip it.
e. Run Connection Setup.
f. Deploy Update_Mango.XBMODDeployer.xap to your device using the WP7 deployment tool. Remember to uninstall XBMOD.Files.Deployer after its done.
g. Run TouchXplorer and copy CustClear.provxml from My Documents\My Ringtones\ to \Windows, then exit Touchxplorer.
h. Now run Connection Setup again.
i. Deploy Unlock_Mango_XBMODDeployer.xap to your device using the WP7 deployment tool. Remember to uninstall XBMOD.Files.Deployer after its done.
j. Run TouchXplorer and copy CustClear.provxml from My Documents\My Ringtones\ to \Windows, then exit Touchxplorer.
k. DO NOT RUN CONNECTION SETUP NOW, IF YOU DO, YOU WILL LOOSE UNLOCK IN 7712.
l. Check for the 7712 update in Zune and update your device. (This takes long time)
m. When updated to 7712, Run Connection Setup on your device. Check that its still unlocked by opening TouchXplorer.
9. We can now move on to keeping chevron unlock after updating from 7712 to 7720.
a. Deploy Update_Mango.XBMODDeployer.xap to your device using the WP7 deployment tool. Remember to uninstall XBMOD.Files.Deployer after its done.
b. Run TouchXplorer and copy CustClear.provxml from My Documents\My Ringtones\ to \Windows, then exit Touchxplorer.
c. Now run Connection Setup again.
d. Deploy Unlock_Mango_XBMODDeployer.xap to your device using the WP7 deployment tool. Remember to uninstall XBMOD.Files.Deployer after its done.
e. Run TouchXplorer and copy CustClear.provxml from My Documents\My Ringtones\ to \Windows, then exit Touchxplorer.
f. DO NOT RUN CONNECTION SETUP NOW, IF YOU DO, YOU WILL LOOSE UNLOCK IN 7720.
10. Now the final chapter in the update saga; Moving on to RTM 7720 with chevron unlock (and ofcourse with your native language)
a. Connect your device, but close Zune if it's running.
b. Copy the "RCToRTM" folder located in the 7720 folder to "c:\" and only there.
c. In the RCToRTM folder, locate the "ISVTo7720.bat" and run as admin (right click on file...)
d. If all is done correctly, then your phone should begin updating to 7720.
e. After update is finished, you must run Connection Setup to keep the unlock.
f. Open TouchXplorer to confirm if the device still is unlocked. (If not, you will get a message that it has been revoked)
UPDATE: If running into the problem that the ISVTo7720.bat is closing, you can try open taskmanager (ctrl+alt+del) locate any process with the zune name running, and close them. Now run ISVTo7720.bat again to see if that worked.
If you run into problems using this guide, many of them have allready been covered allready. So please search the thread for the issues you might face to see if there is a sollution for you.
I am sure that this guide could be better in this or that way. But this is the way it worked for me

I'll just update this thread with what I had in the other once since this will be the main one.
Before updating, I uninstalled the Zune Beta and re-installed the retail copy prior to running the 7720 bat file from the package. (It had given me an error about the version of tools not matching my zune, so I figured that would fix it... and it did).
After installing Zune, I ran the bat file and now the phone is up and running with 7720. This was a pretty legit install. All previous data has been retained and i DID NOT have to revert to NoDo (just as the instructions say you can proceed from where you are).
Also, after installing, Zune prompted me to update my HTC HD7 with the official HTC update that came out not too long ago.
So i'd say this is fully functional 7720 release. Hope that helps.
What keyboard layout and dictionaries does this release have?
i am updating frm nodo....does it jump to 7720 right away?
or need the previous betas??
According to the instructions, it will bring you through the steps to go all the way to 7712 then to 7720. So from reading, it'll take you through the updates through the mango beta into 7720.

thas gonna take pretty long like a tortoise reaching the finishing line
ive just updatet but no hidden wifi on my trophy
And before I head home, always nice to see my phone boot and not say "NotFor Resale" in the bottom corner anymore is always a plus.
Anyway that this can be used for a port to the HD2?
I can't even get it to install, it just pops up a command prompt and closes extremely fast.
Edit: Problem was that the Zune software was seeing my phone as a "Guest"
Instructions have been rewritten in post 1
So far from the other thread we've seen theses devices confirmed to work:
HTC 7 Pro
HTC Arrive
HTC HD7
HTC Mozart
HTC Trophy
Samsung Focus v1.3
Any others?
Will we still have to ability to side load apps, or does this break the chevron unlock / jailbreak?
This may be a silly question given that itje has posted those instructions but, is there anyway to go to RTM without having to go through 7712? MS never fixed the problem Quantum users had in that the Mango Beta would never flash successfully, leaving us stuck with NoDo unless we didn't mind losing all data. If there's no way, then I'll have to wait for the official.
nevermind!!!!!!
I love xda!
All my dreams have come true!
I will be doing this when I get home later tonight.

I am on 7712, but seeing the way to upgrade to 7720 I believe that LG will have to come out with a firmware upgrade for Quantum users before the OS can be upgraded to be able to pass that cold boot hurdle. With that said, I think even if I upgrade to 7720 now I probably have to start from NoDo to obtain the firmware upgrade (maybe it's smart enough to only upgrade the firmware when it comes along, we'll see).

[HOWTO] Update from NoDO to Mango since official Zune 4.8 Update

Hey Guys,
I have been a long time viewer of XDA and found it incredible useful for both Android and WP7 communities.
I have just updated my Samsung Omnia 7 to the 7720 (RTM) build of Mango after the official Zune 4.8 came out. This meant that it took lots of trial and error and basically mashing instructions from a few different tutorials to get the build running.
As I can't find much reference for people who are trying to do this post-4.8 i thought it would be helpful to post what worked for me. I will try my best to link to the original threads for the steps and downloads I used and I take zero credit for the hard work done by those who wrote these tools and scripts.
(MODS: As this is my first post I couldn't put this in the Dev/Hacking forum, if up to scratch and necessary could you move it there?)
So here we go:
You will need:
WP7 Handset running NoDo
MicroUSB Cable
Windows 7 or Vista PC
Patience
A couple of hours to spare
Please note that as per every other tutorial of this kind, you are doing this to your own phone... don't blame me if things go bad!
This method of updating will remove your Chevron Unlock - if your a homebrew fan then i would look for other tut's or wait for official update!
1: Download this "Mango for All 0.3" from here
2: Extract the folders in the zip file to C:/takeonetomango .
3: Download "7720.rar" from here (originally found in this thread)
4: Extract the contents of 7720.rar to C:/ (VERY IMPORTANT! - you should end up with C:/RCtoRTM, C:/Zune etc).
5: If you currently have Zune and the Windows Phone Support tool - UNINSTALL THEM.
6: Open C:/Zune and run "Startzunelocal.exe" to install the (now old) Zune 4.8 Beta.
7: Open C:/Zune/Update and install "UpdateWP.exe" from either the x86 or x64 folder depending on which windows you use. (This is something of an idiot test. If you don't know which you should choose - stop here. Put the down your phone, uninstall Zune and put the official zune back - you should wait for the official mango update as this can seriously damage your phone.)
Explanation: So far, all the tools used to provision the phone and force the updates rely on the version of Zune and the WP Support Tool to match. Since the Zune 4.8 was officially released, there isn't a matching Support tool, which will cause all these bat files to fail their checks. This is why we will be rolling back to the old 4.8 beta a couple of times, just to please those checks.
8: Now you should have Zune Beta and the supplied UpdateWP installed. Now navigate to C:/takesonetomango. Plug in your phone and quit zune (you may need to wait a few minutes for the windows device driver to install). DO NOT UPDATE ZUNE AT THIS POINT. QUIT ZUNE.
9: With your phone plugged in and zune no longer running, right click "Update.bat" and run as Administrator
10: Follow the steps that appear in the command prompt. This will now do a backup of your phone and move it to a safe place (this is because you will need to go back to NoDo to get the official Mango update).
11: Go and put the kettle on. This is now going to take a while depending on how much stuff you have on your phone.
12:When the backup is done, it will move this backup to a safe place. Press any key to start that and finish drinking your coffee.
13: Once the backup is moved the command prompt will now do the interesting stuff. Its going to "Provision your phone" to trick Zune into thinking your a developer. Follow the instructions and be VERY PATIENT.
14: Once its all done, it will launch Zune. Stop any Sync'ing and go straight to check the phone for updates.
15: It should now say an Update is available and welcome to the Mango ISV beta. Hit Update now. You must update to the latest Zune first - this is fine - go for it.
16: When zune has updated, plug the phone back in and check for updates again. Now it will install the Mango 7712 (beta 2) update. Your phone will restart a couple times, be patient and wait until it has done TWO updates to your phone. Another coffee would be good.
CONGRATULATIONS! You now have Mango on your phone. However its not the latest RTM that you have been hearing about. So lets go install that -
17: With your phone unplugged, uninstall Zune again. And make sure you uninstall the "Windows Phone Support Tool" if it shows up in the program removal list.
18: Now go back to C:/Zune and install that old version again.
19: Now install "UpdateWP.exe" from the correct folder in C:/Zune/Update
20: Plug in your phone. Wait for the device driver to install again.
21: If Zune launches, quit Zune.
22: Go to C:/RCtoRTM and run "ISVto7720.bat" as an Administrator
23: This will take quite a while. All those other files in there are actually the RTM update itself. This one doesn't come over Zune, we only went back to the old zune to satisfy the checks in ISVto7720.bat.
24: After you have drank a few more cups of coffee your phone will have rebooted and installed the RTM release.
At this point you will need to unplug your phone and start playing with it. My apps and files and all settings etc stayed in place so yours should too.
Whilst playing with the new features on there you will want to launch zune and get it to update itself to the official 4.8 again otherwise the phone won't sync with it.
It's important to keep the C:/takesonetomango folder as there is a handy file called "Restore.bat" which will use the backup created earlier to put NoDO back on your phone as Microsoft says you will not be able to get the official release unless NoDO is on your phone.
Hope you find this useful. If I have linked to something and not given credit to the original author please let me know and I will change the credit.
Enjoy
Tips:
1. If you have any problems with errors for "prov.cab" users have reported that sometimes rebooting can sort it, otherwise edit the update.bat file with the explicit path to prov.cab. Thanks to everyone in the thread who suggested this to help others!
Is Hidden WiFi feature enabled in this release?
The code is probably there but don't know how to enable it yet! There is a long discussion here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233612
There is plenty of other reasons worth updating though!
Help!
Hi.
Trying to follow these directions. At step 9, am getting this error:
"File prov.cab is not accessible. Please double check your file."
Any idea what I might have done wrong? Do I need to uninstall everything and start over again?

try running as admin.
Im actually stuck at step 16
Zune wants to restart the phone but nothing happens and the phone screen shows a picture that i should plug in the cable, but it is already
zune also consumes 30% of the cpu and that since an hour...
any ideas how to continue ?
/edit
just abort and retry
now running 7720
Was doing that, but that was a good suggestion.

Just uninstalled everything and am going to start over from step 1.
No disrespect to all of you Mango lovers, but really wish the Pre 3 had made it to market right now. ... I'm sure I'll be more forgiving of some of the Mango shortcomings once I have successfully completed this process.
For what it's worth, i followed the instructions and am now successfully running 7720 RTM Mango.
The only stumbling block i had was going from 7712 to 7720, "ISVto7720.bat" was closing seconds after opening, a quick PC restart later however it worked first time, plain sailing aside from that.
Really enjoying all the new features thus far and i'm sure there's more i've yet to encounter - thanks for the clear and easy to follow instructions to help me get there.
Great to hear at least some success with these instructions!
It is a bit hit and miss, to be honest and each machine seems to have its own little subtle differences in the order that it installs device drivers etc.
If you get the problem with Prov.cab double check you have extracted the folder to the right place, the bat files have explicit paths in them (it doesn't just look for prov.cab in the same folder, it looks specifically for C:/RCtoRTM/prov.cab for example).
Jay
I'm going to try this later on tonight.
I have de-branded my HD7 a few weeks back using the two roms.

Thanks Jay
Just wanted to confirm that it has worked fine. Thanks Jay for putting the guide together.

Does anyone know if this procedure works for the Verizon Trophy (SparkW), and if not, is there any way to load Mango RTM without developer unlock?
General sanity check question: if one chose to update to Mango via this "unofficial" method, how can he be sure that his phone will be in a "supported" state afterwards? Or, to rephrase, what would be the purpose of updating now just to have to revert to the last backup in order to update officially once the update is released by the manufacturer?

As I know, the beta update in 7712 has all 22 Languages, while the RTM update posted here only has 6.
For those who just use one of those 5-6 default languages should have no problem, but the others who enabled other languages in 7661 or 7712 should have found the update is "unfinished" (I hope someone will notice), though the build is 7720.68 which is supposed to be real RTM.
If the update through Zune has all 22 languages available, it should be worth to update officially. As you know, there are always people who don't want to see the "Not for resale" logo in the boot screen while keeping the Mango features, me too.
When someone captures the RTM update files in all 22 languages before the update through Zune, then I will see no point to roll back the update and do once more officially.

Actually, my Trophy only has 5 languages available. I remember that the update will not show all 22 languages, but it will support all of them. Selected languages will only be available on your phone based on the phones firmware region.
Just updated my hd7 and my wife's focus 1.3v to mango. This walkthrough is definitely great. For the focus i used senboston "ISVto7720" instead of the one in rctortm package. It is in the other THREAD post #508 mentioned in the first post here. With your indulgence, could you please enlighten me on how to use the restore.bat. Maybe another walkthrough for this is needed. Thanks again!.

It does support multi-languages shown up since 7004 (cannot said to be support), just not be able to type.
What I mean is the interface languages, which suppose to be a full support, instead of partial support as you have mentioned.
In beta update 7712, language packs will be updated according to your registry settings in NoDo, instead of the ROMs we have. I am just curious if 7720.68 through Zune will update in the same way.

Stop Zune from showing OEM Updates

This is for anyone that has their phone where they want it and do not want the latest OEM driver updates that tend to have an impact on interop-unlock capabilities (we know of Samsungs and HTC latest doing this).
I see lots of people who have updated the OS using CAB sender methods (myself included) and want the ability to keep IU abilities for highest privileges and to apply IU after a hard reset. I also know the latest drivers can cripple this so I tell my phone to ignore updates (I don't need them or have work arounds).
But, when I plug my phone into my PC and launch Zune I get an update notification every time and I have to say "update later". Very annoying...
So, I have a solution:
Go into C:\Program Files\Zune and rename the file UpdateWP.exe to UpdateWP.exe.t and Zune is not able to do Windows Phone Update and ignores the updates. I can always rename it back later if I want it enabled again.
If I try to do an update manually from Zune I get an error that it can't complete right now and gives an error code. Everything else seems to still work fine.
Just passing this along.
P.S. Yes, this will stop Zune from showing ANY updates including OS so be aware. Visit XDA regularly to see what latest WP OS updates there are
I don't have an "UpdateWP.exe" in that directory...
