I am trying to root my Desire using Unrevoked 3 as shown in the root guide in development section. All seems to go well up until right after it says "running root" and then "this was a triumph" it then says "internal error: failed to NAND flash?". Anyone have any idea what I can do to fix this if anything? I have searched like crazy and found no similar problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated though.

As far as I know they're still working on rooting phones with that version of hboot.
Edit: try finding some more info on visionary +. They managed to achieve temp root.
Ok thanks, do you know if I can downgrade by HBOOT from this to an earlier version?

I don't know. I've seen some pretty documented threads on the subject so keep searching.

Hi I have just got my Desire and want to root it however the guide I am reading says it must be a bootloader of 0.80 or under. When I check my version it reports 0.00.0000
Does this mean its under 0.80 or is there an odd problem?

You sure its not 0.80.0000?
lol yeh I did a bit more digging around after I posted and I realised someone who made the same mistake and looked really closely.
That really needs to be more obvious
On the last step of rooting now applying the update.zip
Hey, I'm trying to NAND Unlock my HTC Evo and I came across a problem with the PC36 file. It gives me an error I'm assuming because I have the latest update that says "Main version is older". On top of this, I have a macbook and it seems I can't use simpleroot. Does anybody know of another method to nand unlock that wouldn't be too complicated? I'm quite the noob. Thanks in advance XDA and everyone else!

Hey dood, there are several threads on this. Since you are new ill point you in the right direction, but please try to use the search function next time.
Use SimpleRoot. It can be found under the development section.

he said in his post he can't use simpleroot because he has a mac,
I think if you use unrevoked3 first then you can do this it will allow you to do everything from the phone you must use unrevoked3 first to get su priveledges. that you can search for.

Thanks so much, I'm about to give this a shot. I'll let you know.
Well that sucks, it still is giving me the "main version is older" error.
You should be able to use this to get a custom recovery
http://www.unrevoked.com/recovery/
Then do this to gain full root and nand unlock
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732834
follw this very carefully, do just what it says and you should be good to go, this is the long way around but as you have a mac it is the only way i know how to do it. Somebody else may chime in if there is a better way.
The unrevoked site has an option for mac as you should see it for download there.
Ahhh, yeah the issue is I have 1.47.

If you run unrevoked three then use that method from the video you should be able to get full root and nand unlocked. just did it on a spare evo.
This may be considered a stupid question, but should I be downloading these files to my phone or just dropping them in the file as a disk drive?
the unrevoked you run from your computer, the others are dropped on the root of your sd card, i believe the instructions tell you exactly what to do, just do that verbatim and you will be fine
I know this has been asked a hundred times. Just wanna check on the best method for rooting with my software configuration.
Software #: 3.70.651.1
Hardware Version:.0003
I am pretty familiar with adb and rooting Heros via CMD so if I could use a method like that, it would be great. So in essence if its possible to RUU back to an older rom version to root that way, I would prefer.
Thanks.
the hboot version you have will determine which method you can use to root your phone...since you have a hardwear version 0003 and sfotware 3.70 i am assuming you have hboot 2.02 or 2.10
check your hboot to make sure by going into bootloader...
here is the guide for root with hboot 2.02 or 2.10 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
if you have a different hboot let me know and i will direct you to the proper thread to root
firmware too new?
I am trying to root my EVO 4G HBoot 2.16.0001 and after running unrevoked I keep getting a message "firmware too new". I've already done the factory reset and it hasn't helped. Any ideas?

YOU CANNOT ROOT THE NEWEST OTA! There are over 60 threads about this, if you would have taken 10 seconds to look, you would have found your answer. And FYI, you dont need to revive an 8 month old thread...

As everyone else has said, you will have to wait until a developer or person in general finds out a way to root the latest firmware. No root method for now, though there is a temp root method in the Android Development forum for the HTC EVO 4G

Atleast it looks like he searched. People like you ruin xda. Most of us members were just like him but when people like you talk that way, it turns the new members away

I'm usually a patient person, but, even, I am getting a little annoyed by all the (what seems obvious to us) questions about rooting hboot 2.16 and gingerbread.

I'm interested into the research that you did that brings you to this conclusion. Or is it just an opinion? Because, in my opinion, people like you ruin xda. See how easy that is?

All I'm saying is that instead of being intimidating, be kind. He brought up an old thread about rooting new firmware(maybe he searched using tapatalk?). If he would have made a new thread in dev section then a little flaming is pretty much required

Well IMO people like YOU ruin xda.
And no, he didn't do a search. If he did, he would have found the 60 or so threads that answered his question. And if for some reason he didn't find his answer, he didn't need to revive an 8 month old thread that has nothing to do with his question.

Hi, I was trying to root my htc desire like in this guide : forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788044 and when my phone needed to reboot it started to turn on and off and after that it was stuck on htc logo. I removed battery, turened my phone on and conected it to pc with usb and then unrevoked said "Internal error:failed to unlock NAND flash". Same thing happens when I try to do factory data reset. Help? :///
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Internal+error:failed+to+unlock+NAND+flash
Already googled,didn't find anything.
Hm...in hboot it says Sd checking....no image! is that ok?
k...tottaly lost...all night trie to root it...now it's hboot 0.83,rooting with newest unrevoked version gives same error, with reflash(older unrevoked) + recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.1-bravo-slcd in the end just closes the window. And I dont know if I have done something cuz for some reason I can't download root check from market. Oh and I also made goldcard...
Try downloading Titanium Backup, if that works for you - you are rooted.
(Did you tried unrevoked 3.21? AFAIK its the most stable version.)

Not rooted,let's try nrevoked 3.21.
I can't find nrevoked 3.21 to download...
Tryed this http://androidforums.com/desire-all...dows-updated-20th-may-2011-a.html#post2446725 it was a triumph. But it restarted again and after that couldn't find misc.

as far as i know there is no way to do it. the only way i can think of that might remotely work is to use the ruu but i have no experience with it and have no idea if it will work/brick your phone. i would recommend googling it extensively before attempting the ruu method
nvm i lied dont attempt the ruu it wont work.

No. Nope. Negative.
Needed 10 characters to post, but I figure the repetition wouldn't hurt either.
