I need help with backing up the Rom. - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Im new to HTC world. I just bought Factory Unlocked HTC Desire Z. I just wanna back up my Rom in case I mess it up.
My specifications are as follows:
HTC Desire Z
Plateform: Android 2.2 (Froyo) with HTC Sense.
Baseband: 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.21-gd2764ed
Build number: 1.34.405.5 CL273326 release-keys
Software number: 1.34.405.5
I can temp. root it with VISIONARY+ and I have no idea how to Backup my ROM.
If you guys can let me know the process for backing it up (if I can backup my Stock ROM then that would be great).
Thanks

Try to install via Market "ROM Manager", root your phone, launch ROM manager and install ClockworkMod Recovery (using ROM manager menu) and then you can back up your ROM. If your model phone is not present I've read you can use HTC Legend instead (google a bit for that).
You can install Clockworkmod Recovery without ROM Manager but it requires a computer and Android SDK skills except if you have a dedicated utility for you phone model (see in the specific forums for that).
I've done this with my LG Phone.

is this the easiest way to root from stock?

So,
I have a (nearly) totally stock EVO. I think i installed the first OTA Update.
Baseband Version: 1.39.00.05.31
Software Number: 1.32.651.6
If i use the simpleroot .1 i will have a totally rooted phone with NAND unlocked?
I will then need to flash a recovery onto the phone? (like this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=702214)
and then flash a custom rom? (like any of the "[rom] Name X" files in the android development thread
Correct?

[Q]How to restore Rooted/S-OFF/Custom Recovery

Hi guys,
(I've searched through the forums loads BTW - but may have missed something. So just point me in the right direction - thanks)
I recently got myself the Desire HD and Rooted with VISIONary, I then used the scripts at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835746 to obtain S-OFF Successfully. At this point I installed ROM Manager and flashed ClockworkMod to the recovery, and then tried out a few of the chef's specials here. Everything was backed up after Root and S-OFF as I needed CWM in the recovery to perform the backup.
1) The question is how do I restore my DHD to factory state?
I know I can revert the root with VISIONary in-app, so my main concern is getting the original recovery image back on to the phone and applying S-ON.
I think I can flash using an RUU to restore the recovery image - but I don't want to choose the wrong one to invalidate any warranty and it's not clear if this restore S-ON. My operator is Orange UK, and I found some RUUs on a thread that linked to http://xdafil.es/?path=DesireHD
I downloaded: RUU_Ace_Orange_UK_1.40.61.2_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_157531_signed
Here are the necessaries:
Rom Manager 3.0.0.1
ClockWorkMod Recovery: 2.5.1.3
Baseband V.
12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Kernel
2.6.32.21-gf3f553d
Build #
1.32.405.6 CL278359 release-keys
Software #
1.32.405.6
The RUU I downloaded seems to have the same radio, but higher build/software number, although mine says ...'eU' rather than just 'e.'
2) How is it possible that's a later build number when there were no updates available before I rooted/S-OFFd etc?
3) Will I still receive OTAs if I flash this?
Thanks in advance guys!
Rob
Go to the radio thread in my sig, do Radio S-OFF (yes, S-OFF), and then follow the instructions to go back to stock.

[Q] Root DHD with 3.12.405.1

Hi,
I want to root my DHD, this are the specs:
Android: 2.3.5
Software number: 3.12.405.1
Sense: 3.0
Buildnumber: 3.12.405.1 CL199157
Kernel: 2.6.35.10-g931a37e
Is it possible to root my phone, without downgrading and losing data?
Thanks,
LTKort
Have you tried this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377119
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
No, but is it with Hboot? Because that will delete all of my data, or not?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using XDA
I don't think its possible to root it without downgrading that will result in you loosing your data.
You can root without downgrading, but that will only be a very temporary root that will be gone after you reboot your phone.
You can backup the data you need maybe?
Ok thanks,
Can you tell me how to backup everything, and then how to Root my device?
Thanks
For data and applications & media, I use MyBackup Pro (free version also available for 30-days trial). That saves a folder on your SD-card called "backups" with everything u backed up. It works perfect!
For SMS I use an application called SMS Backup + (market link) that syncs up to your gmail account.
For contacts and so on, I just sync with my google gmail account also (you will find this in settings -> sync.
So how to root:
Just follow this guide (same as I posted in my first post), BUT you don't need to download custom ROM if you don't want it.
AND stop at the point where installing custom ROM begins in the guide.
Then you should have root
After use of AAHK to downgrade go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382235 and download fully rooted original ROM and put it on SD card. Install 4EXT to clear cash and date and install this ROM.
You will have fully rooted DHD.
PS copy all your data/contacts befor starting.
Regne onHotal
U realy dont need to downgrade as I did it a few hours ago using latest official update I have (3.12.405.1).
What i did is this:
1. use AAHK and just go to menu "o" then select 5 - Install AAHK 'ENG' Hboot for Devices running GB Sense 3
2. use Supertoolv3 and select 1 - Prep (using zergRush CREDITS to Revolutionary)
after if cracks open the tool will exit
3. use Supertoolve again and select 3 - Attempt Perm Root (Must prep first)
4. use AMT_1.8.5_Release to push a recovery of ur choice
U're done.
I'm not responsible if u brick ur phone. I just tried and worked for me.

I managed to root my DHD on that version with superoneclick, BUT I was already S-OFF so I don't know if that was why it worked.

[Q] [Unroot] Stock Kernel?

I have to sent my phone to HTC (doesn't read sim card) So I have to unroot my phone.
Before I flashed an other ROM I made a Nandroid backup. So to unroot I used this tutorial:
http://theunlockr.com/2014/06/08/how-to-unroot-the-htc-one-m8-video/
I locked the boot loader with this tutorial.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708571
So I'm close to stock. S-ON, Bootloader is locked (instead of re-locked), stock ROM from NANdroid backup.
But Kernel version still says:
3.4.0-g16cd293
[email protected]#1
SMP PREEMPT
So I think I have to fix this. But I'm stuck at this one.
cid: VODAPE17
Android Version: 4.4.2
HTC Sense: 6.0
Softwarenumber: 1.54.161.10
HTC SDK API: 6.17
Smallband: 1.15.2133156.UA13G_20.18m.4096.04L
Build: 1.54.161.10 CL325784 release-keys
This has got nothing to do with development, not even close. I suppose you've just posted the topic by accident here?
I think you just need to lose root?
Unroot your device and flash the stock recovery.

You're right. I created a new post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/unroot-stock-kernel-t2911271
Maybe a mod can close or remove this one?
