So I just got a 16gb sd card because my 8gb went out finally. So when I partition via rom manager and recovery, it does it, but I don't ever see the ext partition in titanium backup. Is it doing it or what? The 8gb was class 2...the 16 gb is class 4

Ok so this is my problem:
I have a 16 Gig MicroSD class 6 card.
I've partitioned it with ROM manager and then manualy changed the partitions sizes, I've increased the ext3 and the swap partitions sizes with gparted.
Later on I've inserted the card back to my Device and Flashed a fresh copy of the ROM.
The device still can only see 147 Mb or free space whereas I've partitioned it to be about 1 Gig of size.
Any one knows any way to make more space on the card then ~150Mb?
Do a search on data2ext and data2sd.
Good luck.

I take it your using a normal app2sd rom, not the newer data2sd or data2ext.
where are you looking to find your stats? if its in settings/sd & phone storage these wont show the amount of the app2sd partition, but they will show the amount of a data2sd or data2ext partition, because the latter two fools the phone in to thinking its internal storage, the former just moves parts of an app to the ext partition on the sd card so isnt classed as internal storage.
If you download an app from the market called quick system info it will show you the size of your app2sd partition to see if its worked
So.. i was installing RCMixHD Rom yesterday, i partitioned my card as follows (using Gparted in Ubuntu):
FAT32 14GB
EXT2 2GB
This Rom is awfully bad, it crashed few times and freezed that i couldnt even reboot so i had to remove battery when it was still running.
I decided going back to CM7 but i just realised that SD Card size is 12.84GB, and Gparted doesnt show any partitions on it, what the heck?
Use a card reader or connect the sd while in recovery and make sure all the partitions get mounted.
If android is booted the ext partition doesn't get mounted. Also if you created your ext partition while android was booted that probably messed up the ext partition and that's why the rom doesn't work right.
First of all a 16 GB cars is more likely 15 Gb in real life.
Moreover, the phone does not recognizes the ext partiton in the SD card menu (in settings), just the FAT32 one.
So 15GB-2GB-possibly some unpartitioned for data = 12.84 GB
That's OK.
Thanks, i think it's fixed now i got 14.8GB of space available again.
Is that a class 10 card? i am trying to figure out which card should i get for my desire, after bad experience with kingston 16gb class 10.
Its Class 4 Sandisk SD card.
if you want to partition the card try ext 3 for a2sd+
Minitool Partition manager is the way to go to create ext partitions on a sd card
free too..
i got a 8gb samsung class 2 sd card off my dude at work today and formatted it before i used to FAT32 and only shows me i get 5.46gb out of it
whys that?
Ok its partitioned 2gb to ext3.. when I go into recovery and partition idk how to get most out of the 8gb I don't want it partitioned do I set all to the lowest number in partitioning?
Ive never messed with partitioning my SD card
NEVERMIND I GOT IT

Hey guys, i had a samsung microsd 8gb class 2 card and i just got a 32gb lexar class 10 . i was on miui a2sd. i partitioned my 8gb card using rom manager (unfortunately), the 32gb is ALL fat32.
first, i copied my 8gb card to my computer, then transferred that to my 32gb. the card didnt work (phone stayed on HTC screen forever).
after a bit of fooling around, i backed up my apps+data to my 8gb sd using titanium, then i performed a factory reset of the phone. i then moved the dalvik cache back to internal memory and for some reason, the 32gb card worked in the phone.
then i decided to switch to mildwild rom instead of miui. the problem is, now when i open titanium with the 32gb card, NONE of my apps are shown. if i use the 8gb card, the apps are shown and able to be restored.
so can anybody explain this? and do i need to partition my 32gb for mildwild?
If your rom requires EXT partition, then obviously you have to create EXT partition on your new card.
via xda app
maybe you have an EXT partition in samsung card. You have to prepare partition on new card, do a nandroid backup with samsung card on, copy files to pc, paste files on lexar card and restore nandroid with lexar on.
If you were using MIUI A2SD then part of your 8GB will have a Ext partition. I suggest (no responsibility accepted) you partition your 32GB using gParted and use some kind of Linux OS to copy the files from the Ext partition of your old card to your new one. Failing that, do a nandroid back up on your 8GB and copy that over to your 32GB and restore. But be sure to have an ext partition of your 32gb because you need it for your MIUI A2SD.
I have been reading that partitioning your SD card before installing roms is good idea. I have a 32 gb card and was thinking of partitioning using ROM manager. What is the ideal space for partitioning and ideal swap space?
i have the same size card in my evo and i use a 1 gig swap partition ...and it seems to like it also ....u can try that or try it like this
1. fat32 remaning space on card
2. ext2/3-1 gig partition
3. linux-swap -100mb partiton
What about the partition size? Also will partitioning erase my SD card?

Here is a guide.
Plus I would not use CWM. Use Amon RA.
And yes this will wipe the card. Back up to your pc.
Thanks! I will back it up before I partition it.
SD card class 4

I'm about to buy an SD card to partition and install a new rom, does the EVO4G support microSDHC class 4 32Gb cards?
specifically this one: ADATA AUSDH32GCL4-RA1

i have a 32 gig class 6 pny card and it works fine i used to have a class 4 and 6 sd 16 gig they just seemed slow but yes i don't see why that wouldn't work,
I've gotten nothing But negative reviews about San disk cards ..personally i wouldn't trust them so try to stay away from those lol and some SD cards pull too much current remember that.make sure u set ur sd card read speed to 4096
and that is a cheap card i am about to go buy up a few and check em out lol hope that helps

It works!!
Update:
Well I just partitioned my new 32Gb SD card class 4:
swap 64Mb
ext3 2048Mb
fat32 the rest
I'm using Energy ROM with Anthrax Kernel and it works like a charm.
Swap
whats the best swap size to use?

Well it depends of how hard do you use your phone, I have right now a 64Mb Swap partition but I'm not using it at all....
