[Q] Desire only recognize limited memory - Desire General

Ok so this is my problem:
I have a 16 Gig MicroSD class 6 card.
I've partitioned it with ROM manager and then manualy changed the partitions sizes, I've increased the ext3 and the swap partitions sizes with gparted.
Later on I've inserted the card back to my Device and Flashed a fresh copy of the ROM.
The device still can only see 147 Mb or free space whereas I've partitioned it to be about 1 Gig of size.
Any one knows any way to make more space on the card then ~150Mb?

Do a search on data2ext and data2sd.
Good luck.

I take it your using a normal app2sd rom, not the newer data2sd or data2ext.
where are you looking to find your stats? if its in settings/sd & phone storage these wont show the amount of the app2sd partition, but they will show the amount of a data2sd or data2ext partition, because the latter two fools the phone in to thinking its internal storage, the former just moves parts of an app to the ext partition on the sd card so isnt classed as internal storage.
If you download an app from the market called quick system info it will show you the size of your app2sd partition to see if its worked

SDCard 16GB - Gparted / Phone show 12GB

So.. i was installing RCMixHD Rom yesterday, i partitioned my card as follows (using Gparted in Ubuntu):
FAT32 14GB
EXT2 2GB
This Rom is awfully bad, it crashed few times and freezed that i couldnt even reboot so i had to remove battery when it was still running.
I decided going back to CM7 but i just realised that SD Card size is 12.84GB, and Gparted doesnt show any partitions on it, what the heck?
Use a card reader or connect the sd while in recovery and make sure all the partitions get mounted.
If android is booted the ext partition doesn't get mounted. Also if you created your ext partition while android was booted that probably messed up the ext partition and that's why the rom doesn't work right.
First of all a 16 GB cars is more likely 15 Gb in real life.
Moreover, the phone does not recognizes the ext partiton in the SD card menu (in settings), just the FAT32 one.
So 15GB-2GB-possibly some unpartitioned for data = 12.84 GB
That's OK.
Thanks, i think it's fixed now i got 14.8GB of space available again.
Is that a class 10 card? i am trying to figure out which card should i get for my desire, after bad experience with kingston 16gb class 10.
Its Class 4 Sandisk SD card.
if you want to partition the card try ext 3 for a2sd+
Minitool Partition manager is the way to go to create ext partitions on a sd card
free too..

[Q] Error Partitioning

Hi guys,
I have partitioned my SD card about 10 times now, either using ROM Manager or Gparted.
The problem is that after I do everything no extra memory appear on the internal memory.
It is a 8GB class 6 card.
Why is this happening?
Download quick system info to see the info about this partition.
It is showing as the partition exists.
Is it working?
Im using RCmix by the way. Maybe a bad SD card?
Just tried with the original SandDisk 4GB Class 2 and it did the same.
Any help please?

after you partitioned your card with gparted, what did you do, exactly? just turn the phone on? reinstall? what? what ROM are you using?
Do you have a2sd+ with your rom?
sounds like maybe you dont.
Did u create an ext3-Partion for App2SD? Correct partitioning should be like this:
0 MB SWAP (MUST!!)
512 MB - 1,5 GB for ext3-Partion (more than 1,5 GB can cause problems with downloading/installing apps)
Rest: FAT32
Try to partition your sd-card with your recovery-system. Maybe this helps.
after partition in terminal emulator on phone
a2sd reinstall
then let it finish

[Q] After partitioned my SD card, where the space had gone ?

Hi all "I am new at this stuff so apologies for my ignorance in the following explanation"
I have a rooted desire phone with a 4GB class 4 SD card and clockwork recovery
The internal free phone storge was 51.2MB, and I decided to partitioned my SD card in order to free more space for the app. "which is 90% of them are on the SD card" and for using some custum room "I actually dont konw the use of partitionning in custum room" but that what I read
So, I partitioned my SD card using Rom Manager with 512mb ext and zero swap with no errors, after that I put all the app. back to the SD card with no problem and all app. run smoothly from the SD card
I checked the internal phone storge using "DiskUsage" and it was as follows
Data 147.6MB
Application 35.4 MB "some of this app. can not move to the SD card & the other I wanted on the internal memory like Astro"
System data : 61.0MB
Free space 51.2MB "which is the same as befor partitioned as well as all the above sizes "
And the SD card total space was 3.21 GB which mean that the 512 MB suppose to be ext. partion right now
The Qustion is where is the 512 MB that suppose to be ext. partion ? Should this partitionning prosses free the internal memory of the phone ? and what is the use of partitionning in custum room ?
It is kind of weird at first when your new to it all. Took me a few weeks to get use to it and understand how it roughly works.
When you partition your SD card so you have an ext partition, it won't actually show up as internal memory. The internal memory is being read off of the /data partition. To make it simple, the ext partition acts like it's "hidden" so to speak. To get it working you would need an A2SD script at least. Depending on what rom you have, the script could be an addon, where you have to flash it after the rom, or it would be built in so it's just up and running anyway.
You can check to see if the ext partition is working. Apps can see if it's working, just search around in the market. To get the apps onto the ext partition, you would probably have to move them, but don't use the moving feature in Settings > Manage applications.
Thanks for your reply
I actually didnt flashed any custom rom yet "I am planning to" and I am running the stock rom froyo 2.2 which have the move 2 SD card feature, and the only app. that I had in this matter is "Move 2SD Enabler" which with It I moved almost all the application that I want to the SD card "some app I cant like the maps"
But even after the moving of all app. the internal phone memory is the same
I mean I cant feel any deference after the partitionning
So How can I use this 512MB ext partition or when ?
and also are these free space on the internal phone healthy ? or may I suffer a space problem when I tried to flash a rom? and what kind of ext does the rom manager do ext.2 or 3 or 4 ? and does it matter when flashing a rom ?
Sorry for the dozen of questions
With most roms it comes with A2SD (there are other deviations of it but the same principle). This is a script which tells the rom to install apps to the ext partition on your SD card instead of the internal memory. Thus, you get more app storage.
When you have A2SD, only the apps get put on the ext partition. Other things like the data for the apps and the dalvik cache stay on the internal memory and will (eventually) fill up the internal memory. That's where d2ext for example comes in. (You can read about all this stuff in your own spare time).
Recovery/rom manager uses ext3 but you can upgrade it to ext4.

How to check size of SD card partitions?

How can I take a look at the partitions of my SD card, their filesystem and their size? I moved some apps to the sd card but I have no idea if there is a dedicated ext partition or not.
Thanks!

normal sd card or when you buy a new one dosen't have any ext. partitions.
if u wish to do u can use cmw and from it choose advanced option and choose make ext. partition....
i had not done it pratically bt a friend of mine told me that after he had done ext. partition so no bad words for me when he put sd card in his lappie the win. 7 was showing the size of sd card excluding the amount of ext. partition done for e.g. if card was of 2 gb and done ext. part. of 1 gb then the size was shown in lappie 1 gb excluding the ext. part.
Right, I've always used CM7 apps2sd so I guess I don't have any ext partition.
What I'd like to know is: where are the apps moved to sd stored in my sd card? I mean, in what folder?
Thanks

Problem with Ext Partitons

Hi there! Like many of us here i've come to realise that the 380mb of internal storage of my Arc S is insuficient!
So i've decided to try and partition my 16GB Sd card!
I've made a research and followed one of several guides here, basically, partition my sd on a FAT 32 partition and the other one Ext4 via MiniTools and then use Link2SD to move apps to SD Card!
I've unlocked bootloader and i was on a ICS Rom! But i decided to wipe it out and give a try some KitKat Roms like Carbon, CM11, Dark CM and others on Android Development Section and give it a try on Partition my SD!
The main problem here is that i'am having problems in maintaining the Ext 4 partition!
I leave 12GB to Fat32 and the other 4 on Ext4 partition! The problem is that in some roms, the memory is recognized and in internal memory it shows up 3 or 4 GB!
But after a few days of usage, and in 3 or 4 roms i've tried, i begin to experience random reboots and at some point the phone wont boot!! And i've have to do the all thing again!
On other Roms, i make the Ext partition but on phone it shows me internal memory 380MB free and not the 3 or 4 GB! I mean on Link2SD the 2nd partition shows up (on /data/sdext2) but not as internal memory!
What am i doing wrong here? I've even tried 2 and 3 Ext partitions! The results the same! Some times it works, other it doesn't! Am i giving too much GB to ext? I've tried with 2, 3 , 4GB and the same happens!
Is there any problem with KitKat roms and Arc S on this matter? I'am beginig to think on getting back to ICS!
Thanks!
I used 16GB memory card as well and also made 4GB Ext4 partition. I used Link2SD and never occurred a problem.
Did you use any other scripts in addition to Link2SD? I didn't check the internal memory in Settings that much, but I can't remember having seen more than 420MB in the settings.

but the objective here isn't that internal memory stays "linked" to the ext partition? becouse it did happen after i finish the process to check internal memory and showing up has 3 or 4GB.
Becouse otherwise whats the point of ext partition? And then, with only 420mb showing up i try install several apps, move them to sd card, and even then there's always some data that stays on internal and fills up quickly the 420mb!
