New OTA 2.3 HBoot 2.16.0001 INFO request help - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone I'm new but not a complete noob, I looking for information on what exactly hboot is and what it does, specifically hboot 2.16.0001. If some one could provide some source code. and talk about it.
Update: 12:42. Not looking to root my phone. I want to know and understand HBOOT. Thankyou "thedudejdog" thats what I'm Looking for.

It's not a rootable phone *yet* . I'm actually sitting here with two of the same people handed me that wanted their phones rooted. I asked if they updated with the OTA....[confused look] "no"
BTW...welcome
(i know i look newb with my stats...i just never post.)

yes, you'll have to wait for a new root method.
i tried to root my buddies phone with the latest ota and it isn't possible right now.
you should never take ota updates

first off, before you get flamed by someone else...Questions go in the question section of the forum. (please post in the right section next time)
with that said,
the source code has not been released yet. So basically you will have to wait till HTC release it
or someone finds a way to root the phone without the source code, which is very unlikely.

3 things:
1. no you cannot root yet if you had taken the OTA (gingerbread update pushed by sprint/htc)
2. yes you are a noob b/c you posted in the wrong section. if you start your thread with [Q] or the title is a question, post it in Q&A not Development. please watch the video that I link to in my sig for reference
and finally...
3.

'cause, like I said....you posted in the wrong section...get ready to be flamed

here is some info about bootloaders.
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3465259/can-someone-explain-these-android-rom-hacking-terms-hboot-bootloader-radio-rec
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/278898-android-partitions-kernels-explained.html
a quick google search will explain how carriers/HTC block root and custom roms using ota updates.

Thanks for the really fast replies. I understand that the is not root-able yet. I did not know the phone needs to be rooted to obtain the source code. I'm not looking to root my phone, but my question is development, I want to understand HBOOT and what it does. In this case google is not friendly in resources of what hboot is and what is does.

I didn't, had to do a insurance claim for a broken screen, went to swap the logic boards and its was cracked and warped from falling out of my pocket on my bike on the freeway.

Yes he may be a noob, but that does not give others that have been here any length of time to be an ass. Why can't you guys (who aren't far from being noobs yourself) just try to be helpful and answer his question. Alot of you have not been here that long yourselves.

Hello,
I apologize for my bad English at first.
I think this thread title is wrong (like other threads I made), I though there was a new hboot for evo 4g, I have hboot 2.10.0001 and my 16gb sdcard have a compatibility issue that do not let me load an "PC36IMG.zip" file so I thought that maybe can find a fix here.. I solved my problem just installing rom manager and changing to ra 2.3.
I recommend you this thread (I still learning too):

Hey I get it that others want to help but honestly we all do make mistakes but have not noticed the amount of people posting in the wrong place or asking the same question over and over again. I will admit this though one good flaming will make yo a$$ think twice about where you are posting and making sure you search properly.... Hmmm that kinda sounds like what they should of done before posting...
Like I said yes it happens to us all but just like someone taught you how to do things ppl in here feel the need to help others that way... Don't knock it man if you want to help keep on helping but flaming does help as well....

Well lets see, would you like it if your parents "flamed" you for all the stupid questions you asked growing up or would you "flame" your children for everything they asked that was not in what you thought was the proper context? If you answered yes to these then you need help that won't be found here.

Yeah i think that a lot of people that get flamed the first time they post here, even if it is in the wrong section, never post again on XDA because they despise the community and the type of assholes that lurk here.
I don't know what the mods are capable of doing, but one person letting the guy know that he posted in the wrong subforum is all that is needed, and a quick PM to a mod to let them know it needs moved, if that is possible.
And then I think the following posts that say things about it being in the wrong section and prepare to get flamed and blah blah blah, should get deleted and those persons warned.
It would help more people stay XDA'ers
As for the Hboot question. I don't know how to explain it in depth OP, very sorry. I think of it kind of like an emergency recovery. You are able to flash pc36 images, fastboot commands, and boot into regular recovery from there. Beyond that, I haven't a clue the inner workings to it.

Well put skydeaner.

some of you guys need to sign out when you read threads.
Every forum in the world has the same thing, new people signing up asking the same questions. if you dont want to deal with these repetive questions... DONT POST in the thread and just move on and post in threads that actually mean something to you and don't piss you off.
I've been on these forums for years, I just don't post because im already on too many forums as it is.
The OP never said he wanted to root his phone, you guys are flaming him calling him a n00b when really.... YOU are the n00bs talking about rooting.
Read carefully, he was asking about more info on Hboot.
And you can't assume someone stupidly updated OTA to the newest updated , he just got his phone replaced which comes loaded with the newest firmware.
The same thing happened to me and thats why im here, reading and searching around to see if there any way to root the phone.
You guys are n00bs.

Thanks for everyone's help. I was just looking to talk shop about any hboot code, but mostly 2.16, I have some knowledge of programming, and was looking to get my feet wet with android/Linux. Books are grate but for me learning code comes easier by talking shop. I enjoy problem solving, that's why I posted here and not Q/A.

Have to keep rebooting phone
Hello, my problem is kind of weird..
I have a metro pcs flashed Evo...I activated it from another metropcs flashed evo. For some reason, I keep losing bars if I leave it idle and I have to reboot the phone in order to have service. I have to do this like every 5 min. Is there a way to update the hboot and radios so I can re-root it? I know how to do it somewhat, I just can't find hboot 2.15 or 2.16. I need one of those in order to do the unrevoked/revolutionary root (if I said it right) please help. Thanks!

I think you have not need to change your hboot or reroot, instead you should update radio (or combo), pri, nv, etc, but I am not sure 100% because you are on Metro, maybe must to do an extra step.

Lots and lots of threads on this topic...and you provided us with NO information about your setup.
Root? Nand? Rom? Radios? Which RUU did you attempt, how did you attempt it, what have you tried to solve it already....
...and your title is no help telling people what your post is about. Generic subjects get generic responses. You can edit your post, go to advanced and change the subjet/title to something a bit more direct. (But I'd suggest the search option before you get flamed.)
HELP ME !!!!!!!!!!!
i think the root im using is unrevoked 3....yesterday when they posted to Avalaunch Sense ROM i applied it to my phone....i have ClockWork Mod Recovery Image.....NAND is NOT unlocked i attempted RUU 1.32.651.1 RUU 1.32.651.6 and RUU 1.47.651.1 none of them are working i keep getting ERROR 155.....i even tried flashing them through Recovery Mode and doesnt work.....please i need some help i just want to go back to stock ROM i dont care which one.....if i forget to post something else please let me know?........thanks
Sounds like your hboot is your issue and maybe your recovery is bad. Search on how to downgrade from this. You should have been fully unlocked(NAND) before installing custom ROMs.
Sounds like you need to try and unlock the NAND . Then flash a new recovery.
how do i unlock NAND and flash a new Recovery? im a noob i really need help please
you read
you use the search function
you read some more
once you feel that you have a clue what you are doing
try
when you can articulate your problem others will help
when you beg for someone to fix what you screwed up due to your impatience or inability to read before acting you are likely to get flamed.
this is not a paid support group nor is it designed for those who do not have a certain aptitude for being a nerd.
yours is not a new issue. is a basic issue. dealt with by many. documented by many. go read this forum and maybe even use this nifty new website called google. it actually searches the world wide web...all you need are some keywords. it's pretty spiffy. you will find your answers if you look.
you need to make sure you are a) Rooted b) have NAND unlocked then c) custom ROM
i think the root im using is unrevoked 3there is no reason for such silliness. you don't know? really? really really?
ERROR 155 UNKNOWN ERRORremember that google comment from above? try this go to www.google.com and put this in the search window "ERROR 155 UNKNOWN ERROR evo" that should get you started.
Lack of planning on your part does not an emergency on my part make.

How have you done plenty of research when your not even sure how your phone is rooted?
Anyway, all you need to do is a simple search in google, an or youtube. Not sure if youtube has anything, but their are how to for just about everything on there.
Look ivanhouston10, both DraginMagik and Kornsaq are corrected. Anyways your first step is to find out a solid answer if you still have ROOT then reply and I or we will continue to help try to resolve your issue. From what you have stated already, I think that is a good chance that it could be fix.
i rooted my phone with unrevoked 3 a while back and then a few days ago i flashed Avalaunch stock froyo ROM with root.......so idk if my phone is still rooted with unrevoked 3
please delete... accidently posted to wrong thread

Now I do have some suggestions for you and hopefully the community can help you get back on track but before that I just have to say ... it's when people have an attitude like this that is really depressing.
There are a limited number of people who may have the answers you need. They have lives outside of XDA and like was said no one here is paid for what they do. Out of the goodness of their heart they check the Q&A once in awhile and help people who DON'T pay attention clean up their own mess.
My suggestion is to carefully and exactly follow instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=721055
If you don't understand some of it or have trouble I encourage you to kindly ask (after doing the obligatory search).
This will give you NAND unlock/root/etc. and allow you to install custom ROMs. I suggest before you start that you do the following:
1 - Install HTC sync for the HTC EVO so you have proper drivers for your phone
2 - Install the Android SDK so that you get ADB or have some other copy of ADB as this will be make things easier to proceed or fix problems. Make sure you know how to "adb shell"
3 - Download ALL the files you think you might need at some point (you never know when a mirror will go down or something) and put them in a special folder
While you are following these instructions I would caution you not to get ahead of yourself. I read through them a little too quickly and had to reread some my first time.
If you have a problem, make sure you take note of the steps you took, where you got all your files, what versions you know of, any error messages you got, what happened and what you expected to happen. With all of that information people have a much easier time helping you out.
Hope that helps.
thanks for everything but unless i misunderstood it says if running 1.32.651 or 1.47.651.....but im running 3.25.651. So can i still do this?
so...perhaps this is the thread you are looking for?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741247
amazing what one finds when one scrolls thru the first two pages of Q/A and/or General.
if you would have followed the first link from the results of the google query i gave you...then you would already have your answer.
just in case you're still reading. if your phone is still usable. i'd stop. don't muck with it till next monday or so. i know. the desire to load a new rom is akin to a alcoholic or junkie lookn at a fix...however, you may well be in a 'ucky' spot. and like when driving there are times when it's best to stop moving till the big truck shows up. the 3.2 that's available is not the final so you won't see a full toolkit on it. once the Final OTA is available, give the devs a few days and you'll start seeing the tools show up. i'd bet that one of those will get you out of the quagmire. till then you may end up just diggin in deeper and such.
can you get out of it...perhaps.
can you make it worse...perhaps.
do i really care...no..not really.

i can't help the fact that you fail while playing along with the game show "are you smarter than a 5th grader"...or the fact that you fail at following directions. you call me the dumbass, an idiot and a dumb ***** (all in one surprisingly short reply)...yet you are the one that can't follow basic directions. you are the one that has screwed your phone. you are the one is unable to describe your issue so that others can actually provide technical insight. you are the rude stoopid end user that can't figure out how to tie your own technological shoelaces.
I on the other hand am enjoying FroYo on my EVO.
may this week bring back to you all that you give into it twice over.

Uhm... we want you to use the search, not post new threads. Using search properly & liberally will mean you don't need to post because the answer is out there.
What I think you are referring to at the beginning of the video is not a theme. Its a custom ROM with Sense 2.5 and some other mods. See the ROM development forum for Rhodium for more info.
Based on your other posts, it looks like you already have the Android port on your TP2. So I don't know why you are still asking how to install it.
Are you asking how to install a theme for Android once you already installed Android? No offense, but your english is confusing.
If a new theme is what you are looking for, then find out what launcher you use,and search for "your launcher's name" and "theme." You can search Google,XDA's android section,or Android Forums, etc. Seriously, though, you were able to find that youtube video and you can't find any themes? Seems kinda weird, dude. Search like I said and really spend a little time. You're lucky you haven't gotten seriously flamed, that's a popular thing to do around here

2- I want to install the Android ROM which is in the same Video because which I've installed it's very very slow and it has some problems. I have XDAndroid 2.2. That's it.

1st the beginning of the video the guy is booting up a Tilt ROM. The theme he uses is the one that is skinned into the ROM. THIS IS NOT A THEME TO DOWNOLOAD!! It has an "Android-esque" lockscreen (words used in the video). He also has an Android like taskbar, but this is most definitely WinMo.
2nd as far as the Android ROM. It is merely XDAndroid that he boots up from his storage card like everyone else here. It even shows it boot up and the same exact bootscreen that XDAndroid has. He says it's XDAndroid. The video is from 3 months ago and he says that it is the latest version of XDAndroid, so that leads me to believe that it is.
So, in conclusion you already have this on your phone. Please stop posting. You have most definitely been answered.

This is also very useful (guide for flashing a new ROM, written for beginners):

You've been given several good answers to your questions. Please go do some reading on the links provided instead of asking the same questions over and over.
1) As I have previously stated (and others also) this is not a theme. You have a misunderstanding of what a theme is. What is shown in the video is a custom ROM, a brand new Windows Mobile operating system (OS) for the phone. noodle21o2 linked some examples of good custom ROMs above, and I linked a beginners guide to install one in my reply above.
2) If you bothered to read the Project Android thread (which you have also been directed to previously) and website, you will see there is a BLAZN version which comes overclocked and runs a bit faster. This may be what you are looking for:
http://sites.google.com/site/androidport/downloads
Thanks a lot dear for this explanation
Dear .. as you said that this is a custom ROM, so how I can install it .. ?!!
I have one more question, if you don't mind?
I would like to know about the following things, and if need it from where to get the tools:
1- How to backup my Stock ROM?
2- How to install a Custom ROM?
3- How to install Hard_SPL and from where I can get it?
4- How to install the Stock_SPL (Warranty Reasons)?
5- How to install the Stock ROM (Warranty Reasons)?
6- How and from where to get sense for my TP2?
I am so sorry for all these question.
Thanks and really I appreciate all your efforts.
Your Brother,
Mulham
The links they gave you answer all of those questions. Just read. Two posts up is a flashing guide for noobs. USE IT. This isn't the proper subforum for ROM flashing, so just read through the given links. Read. READ. (Read)

That's not one more question, that's 6 more questions!
You need to read the guide for flashing custom ROMs which I already provided, it will answer every single one of your questions. Here it is again:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550540
The HardSPL thread is already linked right in the above guide (to download HardSPL, and instruction on how to use it). But here it is also:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=578660
People have already spent lots of time writing these excellent step by step guides, and we've taken our own time to try to help you and link you to these guides. Please take some time tp read them, and try to learn. We aren't going to guide you step by step, when its already been done in the linked guides.
You don't need to backup the stock ROM. If you want to return to stock for some reason, those are posted on the ROM development forum and elsewhere. Here is one good source:
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=windows%20mobile&model=Rhodium
If you are actually talking about backing up your personal info, like contacts, emails, etc. (which WILL BE DELETED if you flash a custom ROM), than that is already covered in the guide I linked.
PLEASE READ Mulham82 !!!

[Q] Root question

To start off I got my EVO on the day it came out and have done all the OTAs since then. Stats below
Hardware version - 0002
Android version 2.2
software version 3.29.651.5
PRI 1.77_003
PRL 60671
I have been reading a bunch on how to root my EVO cause I would like to start flashing custom roms. This is my first android phone and I have never rooted or flashed anything before.
1. What is the correct and best method for me to root my phone?
2. Once my phone is rooted does that mean I can start flashing custom roms?
3. What apps can I use or benifit my once I am rooted?
I know that answers to all my questions are probably out in the forums but I have read so many different posts and dont know which ones would apply to me.
Any help would be great! Sorry for the noobish questions, I know they have been asked a million times, but if someone could just point me in the right direction that would be much appreciated. I am excited to get this rolling and look forward to all the great roms that the devs have put together. Please help!
I just wanted to thank everyone for all the help and the quick responses!

WOW! I was just about to reply to the first post when I stumbled upon your second post.
Terrel_B is clearly a better person than I am. Not only are you already aware the answers are in the forums but when no one jumps to respond you bump the thread with a douche-bag remark. I wouldn't of bothered.

No prob, that's what we're here for.
I apologize for the second remark I made! And yes you are correct I was aware of the information being somewhere on the forums but as I stated I read so many and couldnt figure out which root method was the one I was suppose to use. Then when I seen how many people viewed my thread and no responses I got frusterated. Again I apologize! Half the time I dont know what I would do without this site! I guess I just figured that more people would want to help and when the responses werent coming in...
Sorry for the "douche bag" remarks!
Also thanks Terrel_B!

[Q] verizon m7 sense 6 update caused root failure on weaksauce plz halp me justincase

What's going on xda? I wanted to post this in the developer forum, so that possibly Ya know, a developer would see it and read it but the site said "no" so I have to post here. I had my phone rooted with weaksauce I was gonna go all out and unlock the boot loader and s-off but weaksauce made it so easy to have root access I was pretty satisfied with just that for a little while at least. Then I got an update Download from Verizon. I pressed where it said update now. I was curious. I'm sorry, anyway now I have the Verizon version of sense 6.0 and weaksauce shows me root failure when it runs. It's been like this for quite some time now and I've been searching around for any info on it but I'm the only person who has made a post about it so far. Other people also have this problem, I made a post on android forums and many others are sharing the same issue. Developers please. Let me know if you share the problem or know the solution or if you are currently working on the solution because I am getting slightly impatient. Thanks
Why not post this in Verizon HTC ONE forum? There you will receive more help.

If it was actually that simple I would have already done that. I have a VERIZON m7. Weaksauce was the only root method I tried that worked, so it's not that I'm too lazy to search around for the correct thread, it's that that correct thread doesn't exist yet so I just keep making threads on different android forums until I flood the internet with my words and someone finally notices.

Whats Going on? What is going on is that you really didnt pay attention to the rules when you joined. Had you then you would know why you cant post in the Dev forums. You would also know that had you posted this in the dev forums, it would have been deleted on site.
Now I am gonna move this to the proper device forums and advise you to take another look at the rules before you post again.
Basically, you are SOL until Firewater/Weaksauce/Towelroot is made to work on our latest OTA.
Had you run Firewater when you had root, prior to updating, you would have been able to update and retain s-off and root.
Since you didn't, you are now stuck without root until/when/if an updated method/exploit is posted.

Your thread got answered after it was moved to the right place, so that mod with "a false sense of entitlement" is the only reason you got a accurate reply.
Your call, but a bit of appreciation for those who keep this site running and volunteer to help is never a bad thing. Running a site of this size is not an easy task.

Wow so let me get this straight. You come to a development sight and want to ask a question? Tthen you post in the wrong section so you get the least amount of answers. So not only does a mod come along and move it to the proper place so you have a chance of getting an answer, but tells you where you messed up instead of just deleting your post. So you proceed to call names and insult me? Then break the rules again. Well how about this. The next time you decide to insult someone you will be banned from the site and then you be stuck with what ever simple minded questions you may have. Take this as your only warning. I would normally just remove you from the site for good but I am in a good mood today so I will let this one slide.
