I'm afraid I've had to resort to posting the million dollar question, how do I flash a modified ROM? I've been searching for hours on how to but just can't find anything that explains things in plainly. I've visited various websites that have links here but I can't work out where to even start. There's all this talk SPL and stuff that I have no clue what it is.
Could somebody please post replies to this and guide me through it? I'd appreciate it very much as I really like my Diamond but it could do with a boost.
Thanks
Maybe you over looked the search take a look at this thread it will help you,

Thanks guys for the pointers. I must admit I've been looking at these before. However, having looked at them in a bit more detail, I can see how it's starting to get together.
There were 3 things that I couldn't find on the pages...
1. How do I back up my existing ROM (and everything that will be overwritten) so should things go wrong, I have a restore option?
2. The page about upgrading your ROM says.."now download a ROM of your choice". Somehow that doesn't sound as simple as it's put. There are ROMs all over the place, how do I know what will work on my Diamond.
3. Is it really worth upgrading the ROM? i.e Are there any actual success stories of the Diamond "flying" along as if it's just been injected with steriods?
Look forward to your replies.
Thanks
1: ROM backup - search is your best friend, there are a few open threads about this procedure.
As for making a backup of your contacts/msgs etc, you can sync the device with windows, use PIMbackup or sprite backup.
2: You won't know till you find a ROM which fits your needs. There is no universal BEST rom...
3: Yes there are. ^.^

a good place to start is by only downloading ROMs from the Diamond forums
Hey, guys.. I'm a complete noob at the whole rooting procedure and just decided to jump on the bandwagon. I have come to realize that as of now you can't root 2.2 until someone figures it out. Other then that, I just have some basic questions... so, once you root your phone you can download "roms" on to your phone to use. What exactly are "roms" though? The main reason I want to root is so that I can get the REVOLUTION theme on to my phone...
Just want some questions answered so I understand what exactly I am doing. I find this stuff really interesting anyways, so I would love to learn what I am missing out on!
Thanks in advance.
ROMs are complete operating systems. They're rebuilt, repackaged, or otherwise tweaked versions of Froyo, Eclair, with or without Sense, etc.
Themes are just layers on top of existing apps and program elements.
But both require root.

Head over to the development section, there are guides in place that can answer those questions for you (you will have more lol). Make SURE you follow the one for full nand unlock. Just spent 5 frustrating hours trying to flash rom because I thought I was unlocked but wasn't. Do yourself a favor and read those guides!

Hi People,
I have only just found out that you can change the ROM's and all sorts of thing with My HTC Desire.
I have had my phone for 2 weeks, I'm on Virgin Mobile and don't have a clue.
I was talking to a guy at work who has one and he told me about you guys.
I have had a look around but can't see anything for the noob...lol (ME!!!).
I was wondering is anyone could give me some advice on where to start, What to look out for and any general advice on what to do and what not to do?
Any Help would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks
BG Macster (Mark)
First thing is to ask yourself why you want to change the ROM on the unit. Are you running out of space or are you just the type who likes to have more control?
I didn't root for months as the phon, out the box, does exactly what I want it to do. The only reason I've rooted now is to run the HD ROM but otherwise I'd stay stock.
You're going to get people reply with 'root it now, don't ever think of going stock, bla bla bla' but it's an individual thing, as is the choice of ROM. Read up on the stickied threads in the various forums and use the search button a LOT!

Welcome Mark.
EddyOS has provided you some excellent advice - don't rush into anything.
Mostly people do this as a kind of 'hobby' (including me) and you can end up with some cool stuff on your phone that HTC never intended you to have or have much later on. On the flip side, you can also wreck your phone too through doing the wrong thing or just plain bad luck. HTC can be a bit difficult in fixing stuff under warranty if you've been mucking about with your device, so be warned.
Everything you need to know about rooting and flashing (conjures up interesting images doesn't it?) is contained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
So read up, lurk about a bit in the forums and if you think you need to - have a go.
Good luck!
Thanks Guys Some sound advice there i will look around before i do a thing.
Many Thanks
First thing I would do, though, is check the ROM currently running on your Desire and get the RUU* file in case you ever need to go back to stock after rooting. To check, go to Settings>About phone>Software information and make a note of the software version.
You can then go to this site and see if the version you're on at present is available. If it is, download it:
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Bravo
*RUU = ROM Upgrade Utility, official package from HTC to install a ROM
Hey
I have just got my HTC Desire rooted and don't have a clue how to use it, so anyone wanna give me pointers or tell me how to customize or do as much as i can with this rooted HTC Desire, i have a rom installed on it called Lee Droid, but i was hoping to find out if i can add any other roms or do other things with it, someone please help me?!! lol
anyways thanks for reading this and i hope one of use helps me
Gratz on getting it rooted!
I guess the first thing you can do is theme it with the theme kitchen http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=775970
Just be careful about what you select. Or else you will cause yourself a bootloop.
Just to be safe do a nandroid backup and have a rom named update.zip ready to be flashed in the RUU if anything goes wrong.
Moved to Q&A as you may get more help here than in the Themes forum.
If this doesn't work out for you, PM me and I'll move it back
To be honest if you don't know what rooting is then you probably don't need it - always best to read up on it all before doing it!!

so you have LeeDroid, good, now, download Espresso's theme, which specifically is made for LeeDroid
find bundles and bundles of apps that you can use to mess with the rom, like a terminal emulator, root explorer, setCPU and many more, if you dont know how, check out my appbrain, loads of stuff

Hey everyone
im a new user on android, the thing is that i bought my new htc desire a day ago, and i found out that it doesnt support arabic, it only shows font but not complete words... i heard that there has been found a solution but on rooted phones, my phone version is 2.2,
i would really like to be guided through this, and for instance what is rooting the phone and CM7 and CM6, i also tried searching and i found cyanogen; the website; a good source if i decided to hack my phone to support arabic,
i also would like to know if i can return my phone to factory settings if i decide to after i hack it ? and how can i backup ?
Do you think that if i install cyanogen would be better than the platform that comes with the phone from htc ?
i also knew that ps1 games and others can work on my phone and it has to do with emulators... which is the best emulator and where to download the games from ?
and any other information u might add that might help me would be great
thanks alot in advance
and sorry, i know the questions are too much
ie : u dont need to answer all questions hehe, any helpful answer to any question would be great
my apprectiations to all of u
Hi
Read and Follow this for a complete guide on how to root to flashing, its pretty simple and this guide will help you a lot and it has videos too to make it more simpler to understand.
If you want to ROOT the guide is here: ht tp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084, or you can follow the steps here: ht tp://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/300866-guide-rooting-unrevoked-windows-updated-20th-may-2011-a.html. This is the tutorial I used to ROOT, and everything worked perfect.
Also before you ROOT be sure to make a Gold Card.
Instructions and download: h t tp://android.modaco.com/content/software/308798/pc-application-goldcardtool/
You can go back to your original STOCK ROM with and original RUU, which you can download from here: http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Bravo
Be sure to check your version with the one you download. From Phone go to Settings->About Phone->Software Information and check Baseband Version and Software number.
After you ROOT you can also make a back-up from ClockWorckMod Recovery, which is automatically installed when you ROOT. Also a good back-up application is Titanium Back-up (back-up app, settings etc.).
To run PS1 games you can get FPse app from market.
TO GET THE GAMES IF FORBIDDEN IF YOU DON'T OWN THEM!!!!
Hope this helps you. If you have any more questions post them here.
a great thanks to aamir007 and UsManyDead
but i didnt get wut u mean concerning the games, i downloaded the nintendo emulator and the ps1 as well, after that wut do i do ? do i download the games from the market or from some blogs or wut ???
concerning the root i will do it in a couple of days insha'alla and i will post my questions here if i face any problems, thanks alot mates
and do u personally advice rooting the phone, and is it better than the platform that comes with the phone ? wut do i gain from rooting my phone, for example do i get better performance and such things ?
sorry my questions might look weird but im new user
Hello.
What I meant about games is that you can't ask warez questions here. If you have the apk for android then all you need to do is get the image of the game. This one only you know how and where to get it. GOOGLE.
I think it is good to ROOT your phone since after you root you have a lot more options of what to do with your phone.
To find out what you exactly get after ROOT-ing please read the whole FAQ from here, it explains most of your questions (that you might have): ht tp://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/221212-faq-rooting-updated-2nd-june-2011-a.html
Depends on your needs.
You are currently asking the same questions I asked myself many months ago. Basically, it will all depend on what you want to do with your phone. If it will just be a phone, then there's no need to root it. On the other hand, if you plan to change every single aspect of how your phone looks or behaves, then rooting and "S-OFFing" should be done to it.
Just be prepared for headaches that you might experience. I know there are guides throughout this forum. But not everything will go smoothly. If you do decide to install another ROM, start with a well-tested and stable firmware, then experiment with bleeding-edge ROMs once you become more familiar with troubleshooting.
One more thing: enjoy the adventure! You will love it!
thanks alot guys i really appreciate ur help
honestly co_dominic, im starting to have a headache hehe ! thought it looks quite good
i actually entered to the stock rom ruu website u gave me but i didnt know wut link i should download.. how do i know ??
