[Q] Change log for CM7 Nightly - Defy General

hi
I was wondering if there is a page where we can see a change log of what was modified in each cm7 nightly.
The dev thread is so big and has thousands of post.
Would be much easier to see the new changes of every release in a list
cheers

What is a nightly?
something like a changelog does exist on the GitHub Site to the pjojekt...
A nightly is automatically build every night... so it has all new code which was commited by the developers that day.
Scenario:
Dev A adds feature 1 and changes something in feature 2.
Dev B adds feature 3 and changes something what Dev A does wrong in feature 2 change.
over night the nightly 0815 has been build...
next day the comunity awakes and wants to help the developpers by testing the code... this tests can take some days... but our Devs. are realy motivated and have no time to wait... so they do some more fixes the other days...
now we have nightly 0830... and the community has found new issues on feature 2 from nightly 0815 and it has been shown, that the old code was better ... so back to the original feature 2 - code from before nightly 0815.
-------------------------
Ok,... I think now it should be clear why it makes no sence to write a bugfix-list for nightly builds... they are nothing but test-code most code is replaced after some time ... after much testing of the nightly someone can take that feature and add it to the next stable. Now it is something we could write down on a bugfix-list or something alike.

Ok i understand now.
thank you for your time.
I'm new to cm i just flashed RC1 and the last 2 nightlies but followed the project from the begining.
Hope that CM7 soon will be rock solid

[KERNEL][JVB]TalonDEV Hourlies

This is just eXistZ's Talon kernel from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057705
I was on the TalonDEV IRC channel and we had an interesting idea, that since the development is going so fast over the next few days, it'd be nice to have hourlies. Thus, I set a server up for the i9000 hourlies and the captivate hourlies. These are UNTESTED and UNSTABLE! It may very well break your phone, but these will be the most cutting edge Talon kernels you can get. You are welcome to ask for help in this thread or on the Talon IRC channel (irc.freenode.net #suckerpunch), but KEEP IT OUT OF THE CURRENT TALONDEV THREAD!
You may find the i9000 kernels (date and time stamped) here
If you want to look at the captivate kernels or the build script, you may find those here: http://talondev.sailerboy.net/
Thanks to ytt3r, eXistZ, and anyone listed in eXistZ's thread.
I get no credit for this, I'm just hosting them and compiling them. Go over to eXistZ if you want to donate anything.
These are built every hour. Cappy is on the half hour, i9000 is on the hour.
Changelogs can be found at the newest commits here: https://github.com/existz/linux_gt-i9000-gb/commits/gingerbread-dev
These are all CWM flashable. Make sure you pick the right phone.
NOTE: If you notice that it takes more then 5-10 min to build (captivate starts at the 30, i9000 at the 00), you should probably use a previous build or wait for the next build. The build environments aren't seperate and the builds may conflict, potentially bricking your phone. I plan to fix this later.
Running perfectly on my device, all ext4, thanks a bunch sailor for the compilation, awesome kernel
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Thanks for the nice kernel.
The two build environments should be seperate now, meaning that there shouldn't be any conflicts.
thanks for awesome kernel
Thanks for this. One thing though the commit history isn't changing when newer kernels are released.
Does this mean they are being compiled without any changes? Or that the commit history isn't being updated as quickly as the kernels?

Will this work on JVK?
Hello,
very good kernel ! in the near futur , a JVH kernel will be created ?
Thanks for good work

[Q] Knightly?

What exactly is a knightly build? I'm somewhat familiar with custom roms, but I have no idea what knightly is. I have done a few searches on xda, but i have only turned up with a knightly build rom page, rather than information pertaining to what it is. Could someone please explain this to me?

Well, it's nightly actually.
Basically it's a bot that complies the source, including any commits [say like those listed here], and then spits out a .zip file every "night."
Thus the term "nightly."
Not all ROMs have nightly bots. And it's important to note that just because there's a new nightly it doesn't mean anything has changed since the last one.
so they only change things when someone reports a bug or they improve the rom in some way, otherwise it is the same .zip every night until an update?
Thanks for explaining
Not quite. Groups that run nightly bots tend to be highly active. Some push out the nightly every night, or every x nights (every 3 nights for ex). Think of the nightly builds as alpha or beta testing grounds. Some stuff gets added and if the testers like it, it typically stays . Take a look at cyanogen nightlies... reading the logs should give you a pretty good idea what nightlies are

[ROM][06-02-13][Flinny] Andromadus - CM10[133]

Andromadus - Test Builds
To start with here you will find test versions of ROMs built by me from the Andromadus github repo http://github.com/Andromadus, think of them along the same concept as nightly builds just not every night These are development ROM's, if you want to run bleeding edge development ROM's and at least know how to use adb and logcat then you might find something of interest here. If you require something that works 100% of the time all of the time then this might not be for you. That said you can always give it a try and if it doesn't work restore your previous nandroid backup!
What IS Andromadus?
Initially it was a group of people who got together to make ICS work on the HTC Desire Z because nobody else seemed to want to support devices with physical hardware keyboards/trackpads. Whilst the idea stays the same It has grown slightly to support some other hardware and some of the work we have done is now used in many other devices. Andromadus builds of CM10 or CM10.1 are basically CM sources with a few additional tweaks or additions to support our phones.
1. New versions will be added as and when I feel there are enough changes to warrant one, don’t ask when the next version is coming.
2. If we decide to release a "Stable" version of these roms they will be published in another Andromadus thread.
Direct all your queries with release versions to that thread and in the same vain do not discuss these releases anywhere but here.
3. I will do as best I can to answer questions but if you don't get an answer from me I'm sure somebody else will be along to help. Help each other and I have more time to spend fixing things!
4. Don't ask for what's changed since the previous version, have a look at the recent submits on the Andromadus github if you want to know or wait for the mini changelogs when I post a new release.
5. If there is something in particular to test it'll be mentioned!
6. As always if you didn't wipe between installations then at least verify that the problem exists on a clean install before posting here. Nandroid/superwipe/install/check at the end of the day you can always restore your nandroid if the problem is reproducible on a clean installation. If you can't be bothered to try this then I really can't be bothered to try to help you :>
7. All that said ensure you make a nandroid/backup before hand. I take no responsibility for what you do to your phone with these ROM.
8. Whilst I can't stop you I would rather these builds were not used as a base for any ROM/MOD/ETC. The source is all available if you want to do your own builds with which you can do whatever you like.
9. Tell us what works/what's worse/what's better but don't ***** when something breaks or isn't fixed yet, report it and move on.
10. Sometimes people forget that we do this for fun, for ourselves, and sometimes your super important issue is way down on our personal list of things to be fixed.
If you ignore any of the above you will in turn be ignored.
Now that's all out of the way as always have fun
As usual you need to flash the ROM then GAPPS.
Current Changelog below
Checkout http://andromadus.flinny.org for links/files/previous changelogs
This a team/community effort, I'll not list everyone who has helped along the way here that list is in the beta thread but I will say thanks to all of them again and obviously anyone that has been missed.
Latest version changelog.
CM10 build 133
There was an issue with the backup tool in the last build that will break gapps and your account's etc when flashing this build, the solution is to re-flash gapps at the same time as the rom and you should be fine. This build should fix it so that the next build will work as it should
Changes.
Synced with CM - Again not many changes upstream.
Basically everything relevant to our phones up to the 4th of February in the following has been merged
http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/q/status:merged+branch:jellybean,n,z

Correct and also note this comes without warranty. Flinny could post a rom that doesn't even boot. Its basically nightly build of our repos so you can use them without having to build.
So, when's the next one due? Where's the changelog? What's adb? Why would you want a lolcat? ... *snicker*
Just kidding around for a second. I'll flash, follow the updates and post if I find anything suspicious.

best rom that doesn't update so often?

i'm thinking of going with aokp, but it's kinda a "turn off" for me when it comes out with a weekly build and i feel the need to constantly check on the forums and flash to a new one
what's a good one that is just solid that doesn't require a new build update every week?
You can go Aokp because the last stable build is milestone #4 all the other builds that come out are just a nightly.

i understand but having nightly builds makes me feel like i need to constantly upgrade to the newest one
Just... don't update then? If your setup works well just leave it. You can always skip updates.
I'd go with Bamf Paradigm. Uniquely built AOSP rom, stable, and good battery life. Try it for yourself, you'll be amazed
And quality over quantity - no hyper change logs every 4 days, but if you're in for something different, jump in.
if that is such a problem then just flash AOKP Milestones... not AOKP Nightlies + Milestones.
Milestones are for people who don't want to keep updating. These milestones come 1-2 week.
Honestly, if updating a ROM / Kernel is a "turn off" because a developer is maintaining their ROM / kernel at a rate to improve your phone more and more and you don't want to stick with that maybe you should of stayed on stock ROM/kernel? Because this is like me hearing that people are complaining about a dev updating their ROM / kernel way too much.
When you rush through things and do not test enough, you end up missing issues, which ncreases the need to update the rom more frequently.
BAMF Paradigm does not release updates like mad because for every release, we have at least 3-4 testing releases to our beta testers to find and fix bugs. We do not like to consider our users the beta testers.

Wooo! Trying this
Can I flash directly over 4.1.2 build 129?
or would you recommend a clean wipe : ]
or check the link to the new website on the OP
I would suggest doing a wipe as Gapps etc are all different... if you do try an upgrade then I would suggest backing up... flashing rom/new gapps/wipe cache/dalvik at least.. then most likely finding it didn't work and having to wipe anyway
Nick.
Thx so much. I will try it.
Just tried installing directly over 129, rotation broke so I'm going to try from a full wipe. ( everything else is hunky dory really, although took a quite some time for the phone to calm down and get back to it's usual pace)
By the by, I notice the kill all icon from 129 is gone, is there anyway I can add that myself rather than wait for an update? ( as it's super handy!)
Thanks again flinny and Andromadus folks! My phone is even more woosh woosh and fancy than ever before.
Great job Flinny! You have done quite a lot.
just a question... what is the difference between the cm10.1 and the aosp 4.2? Is cm10.1 the beta release? or are they new test builds based off of cm and not just aosp?

ASOP is stock Android, CM10.1 is with Cyanogenmod and Andromadus tweaks. ( I.E more things to mess about with! yay)
Okay got all my apps reinstalled after a fresh wipe and this Rom is daaamn smooth.
All the default apps run without a hitch, and none of my extra apps have caused any issues either ( got 50 installed)
Just needs lock screen short cut tweaks, statusbar/notifcation tray colour/alpha picker and a kill all apps button and this would be puurrfect.
More than happy to use it as is though, runs great.

It's so wonderful~
But I can't find the CM's function, like "Performance",
If the CM 10.1 have some function not implement??
Some features have not yet been ported to 10.1 by the CM team yet. But performance and developer are hidden in all 4.2 builds until you do the tap build number thing
