Is a warranty replacement possible? If so, that's what you should do. This problem could have quite a few possible reasons, and none of them are easy to fix

thanks for your feedback.
Will this problem sort out after OTA update 2.3 or root?
Cause I am waiting for ota update gingerbread , otherwise thinking about rooting my g2 / vision.
Its singapore asia wwe model.
no ,warranty replacement not possible.
I bought it threw my friend , not rooted.
Got update OTA for 2.2 in JAn 2011

Hello All,
I am used to flashing my HTC Touch Pro 2 and other windows mobile devices, but i have just moved onto a desire and am having a nightmare.
I bought the Desire on PAYG from 3 in the UK as they were up to a point supplying unbranded phones, but just my luck I had to have one from the new batch which is branded and cost me £18 to get an unlock code to use the phone on T-Mobile.
So as I stand I have an Sim Unlocked Desire thats branded to 3 UK.
The Rom version is 1.22.771.1 and Hboot 0.80 which I believe is an issue with rooting so that I can use other Roms.
To be honest I am quite happy with 1.22.771.1, but have a strange issue that on some occassions when someone calls me the ringtone starts, but then cuts out and there is no further sound, although they are still calling and I can answer the call.
So I really want to root and then switch roms.
I have read and read and read, and I believe my best chance is unrevoked, as I have seen a couple of posts which say it works with 1.22.771.1, can anyone confirm this?
Also if I flash to a custom rooted Froyo 2.2 rom, will I still be able to return to 1.2x roms should I not like it? As I have also read that unrevoked, does not work with 2.2, or is this just if you use the OTA roms?
If anyone out there can give me a do this 123 guide to get myself sorted I would really apparciate it.
Thanks
Stephen.
Hi
The issue with the ring tone is due to a setting,
Setting > sound > quiet on pick up
In check this option
sent from my C64
SeArch for a guide, its easy.
But you can return to any Rom you like, as long as your rooted.
I mention this due to if download the new ota you will lose root, and I don't think a method has been found to root the new 2.2 Rom yet.
sent from my C64
Sorry on my desire, but if you install a 2.2 Rom from xda you won't lose root.
But if download via ota and install you will lose root.
sent from my C64
So are you confirming I can root 1.22.771.1 with unevoked? Then install a rooted 2.2 rom?
Regards the Setting > sound > quiet on pick up should that be on or off? to cure the sound issue as i have that set as off.
thanks stephen.

I can confirm that you can't, and I wouldn't recommend that you try. The clockwork recovery image that unrevoked uses never loads, so the phone can't be updated in any way.
What I tried was slightly more extreme. I attempted to downgrade the HBOOT version, so I could flash a lower version generic RUU ROM. Unfortunately, whilst this worked as far as I can tell, the screen simply stopped working. I could actually receive phone calls, but nothing would come up on the screen.
The bad news is that even after flashing back to the original Three RUU ROM, the screen remained blank. The good news for me is that I'm due to get a replacement phone under warranty.
Personally, I can't even tell if this is a software issue or a hardware issue unique to me (I think it might be hardware as I should at least be able to boot into the bootloader), although this time I'll wait for Three to push the update, as I'm not prepared to take the risk of not being able to use my phone again.

I had Hboot 0.80 on my Desire with 1.21.405.2 and I used the Unrevocked3 method to root. But mine was unbranded from Three.
I now have 2.2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775) with 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20 Radio.
All works great.
Hi all,
did a manual check for updates this morning and 2.2 is available, yay!
The trouble is, I'm to frightened to download it as a couple of people on the O2 forum have said it's bricked their phones-stuck on the startup/splash screen!
A few people complained about this happening with their Dell Sreaks with 2.1 a couple of days ago.
What we gonna do guys?
I dont get the point in the post, either go ahead and update or dont update? Firmware bricks are a grey area with warranty, i would imagine if its non HTC official update HTC may not fix it, if it is HTC i would imagine they would.
I dont know if you can enter recovery to backup your current rom if you have not rooted yet
I did my update without any problem. I too got scarred when the device restarted 2 times. Everything going good. Started to see some battery improvement too
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
The point of the post is to warn others to hang a little till O2 sort this out, might save a bit of anguish, unless people want to take the risk.....
How long were peoiple waiting on the boot screen? Can take 5-10 minutes sometimes on first boot...did for me going from 2.1 to 2.2 on my SIM-free Desire
can they not download the RUU o2 update from shipped roms and apply it manually if it gets to that state?
getting stuck at splash screen tends to mean that the bootloader and recovery is intact
Well my Desire is bricked by the update. bootloader still works. I guess ill wait a bit. Maybe o2 will release something to recover the phone. Otherwise ill try to go with the warranty ...
edit : recovery mode works ... so a working update.zip + any way to get it on the phone could solve the problem ...
check the bottom of first post
androidforums.com/htc-desire/148932-froyo-ruu-update-available.html
this is the RUU version of the o2 2.2 update
folow the instructions (a gold card will not be needed as its o2 branded)
whever update you do, you are still running the risk
its a way to recover that im pointing out
I updated my o2 desire to 2.2. successfully without any problems. o2 says that there are some problems with the slcd desire-devices. I have an amoled device and no problems.

Hi,
Last month, I updated the Singapore ROM to European ROM. My phone is equipped with an SLCD. I bricked it, & managed to fix it. Then I updated the phone to a Froyo 2.2. I believe my HBOOT changed from 0.83 to 0.93.
With my recent update with OTA 2.10.405.2, my Wifi stopped working. So, I downgraded it back to 2.1-update1. & my HBOOT is 0.83 now.
Could someone please show me an easy path to have a perfectly working phone?
Should I root the phone now & then go through a number of scary flashing process to get the latest Froyo 2.2? Well, to me it's scary because I always run into problems while messing with it.
Or
Should I get an OTA Froyo 2.2 & hope the wifi will be working properly? Then use Unrevoked3.21 to root it?
Or any other safe methods to equip the phone with the latest updates?
Please advice,
Thanks,
D
HI
So been searching for info on this, and other forums for about 2 days but came up with nothing on my device so hopefully i did a good job.
First of im Swedish so sorry for my bad english.
So my device:
HTC Desire 2.3.3
Flashed with HTC RUU from there site.
Not roted
As far as i know its not branded
Norwegian carrier
My problem:
The problems only showed after the upgrade to 2.3.3 and is:
1. When i listen to music on speakers i can change the volume perfectly but when i connect my headphones or handsfree my volume is stuck at one level.
I already tried to change the volume from settings, from different music players and tried a hard reset using power on and volume down.
Nothing seems to fix it.
2. My phone goes into car mode often. Mostly when i plug in my charger but sometimes when its in my pocket. I already downloaded the app from market thats supposed to "fix" it but it didn't do much differens.
I tried hard reset but the problem is still there.
3. I tried to root my phone so i could reflash it with another rom but read on another forum that its not possible at the moment using 2.3.3. Tried gingerbreak and unrevoked 3 but with no success. So in my desperation and irritation over the problem i re-downloaded the HTC 2.3.3 update to try and reflash the phone but i got an error message stating that i needed the correct rom for my phone. Kind of strange imo because thats the one i downloaded and successfully used the first time.
So the solutions i already tried are:
Different headphones
apps to combat the car mode
Hard reset using power on and volume down.
Any ideas?

Thomas,
Short answer is that you can't root if you applied the HTC RUU, at least not yet (plenty of forums threads on XDA discuss this). This means you are stuck with that ROM for now.
I don't see your bugs on the rooted version of the HTC gingerbread ROM, so can't reproduce them.
Yes i know it cant root it, just showing what solutions i tried so far =)
And now im all out of ideas =(
you can root solution came out a few days ago

Hi again and thank you for replying
Im sorry i get them two mixed up. But i tried revolutionary on my windows computer but dont remember what happend, error codes, other messages etc, all i know is it didn't work because i still wasent rooted. Thats when i tried unrevoked after. Iv tried alot of stuff using my windows machin but its not hooked up right now and im mostly only using my macbook.
But my main concern is not rooting atm, but the volume and car mode. I work in IKEA Logistiks and we work night hours so were listening to music while we work. Its a pain not being abel to adjust the volume =/

Dude im so sorry. I surfed a bit more on there page and remembered that i had problems with invalid beta code and i tried the solution, copy past, but still no luck getting the program to run.
Thats what happend. But giving it another so il post what happend in a while!
Sorry again and thanks!
Problem solved =)
Got S-off with revolutionary after borrowing a friends computer so something wrong with my windows machine maybe.
But reflashed it with Cyanogen mod and its working like a charm =)
No more car mode and i can change the volume. Strange bug i must have received before with the update from HTC 2.3.3.
Thanks for the help, its friday so beer on me! =)

Hello guys
My friends DHD had mainboard changed (warranty) but now he is not able to receive even gingerbread update. so the guy has to stick with Froyo for now. He does not want to get root just the the regular updates
At software menu it says that phone is up to date haha
Any suggestions?
is it possible to force an update? (if it is not getting gingerbread so I doubt that he gets ICS later on)
Regards
To be honest I'd root it...do it for him if he's worried about it...his main boards been changed neways lol so I doubt begging else will happen..there's loads of benefits to rooting her neway

What is your friends firmware version? Not android version, but the HTC Firmware.
Should look something like. x.xx.xxx.x - e.g. 1.32.405.6
Software version 2.50.405.2
Kernel 2.6.35.10
Baseband 12.54.60.25U_24.09.04.11
Hope will do any help
Anyhow the question is if (even phone is rooted) it is possible to apply updates without changing ROM?
I have rooted my phone and already tried a bunch of ROMs (currently using Revolution HD 6.3.1) but thats not for my friend. As she wants to have regular HTC rom and get updated version of software.
thanks again
If your looking for a fairly clean rom try leedroids he only works with official releases...there's a list in the Dec section of purely stock Roms bit just rooted I'd go there..If its a lady I'd try the bliss Roms they were designed for the woman apparently lol

thanks arknailed7754 for your post
though my main question still remains if it is possible to force update to original rom. (rooting is not a problem)
regards
Froyo was 2.2..gingerbread started at 2.3 so he's over the original release..I think you can apply the update through adb..with an official ruu. I'm not as knowledgeable as some on here but that's how you can push the phone to the new update..the official are also in Dec section..there's probably a guide in there if you need help applying, surprised he can update though HTC released the official sense 3.0 etc last year q4.
As I said I might be talking out of my ass but go to Do a search in Google with your keywords its in there..

If your unrooted & don't want root, just want to update to the latest firmware then download the RUU in this post -->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22871910&postcount=33
Before you run it, make sure you've got HTC Sync installed (for the USB drivers).
Your current firmware is a WWE x.xx.405.x and matches that of the update posted 3.12.405.1. You should update with no issues. It will however wipe your device, so make sure you backup what you can before you run the RUU.
Thanks for your help.
Will try as soon as get my hends on friends phone.
Will post results.
Thanks again

When updating received ERROR:

but got the same error
or you have any other options
Hopefully this will work

I had the same problem with my DHD. Whenever I connected to WiFi, I never got the update. What I did was when I connected my DHD to PC, I selected "Internet Passthrough". And voila, I got a message a few minutes later that an update to Gingerbread is available. Try this and I hope this will resolve the problem.
