no update for dhd - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys
My friends DHD had mainboard changed (warranty) but now he is not able to receive even gingerbread update. so the guy has to stick with Froyo for now. He does not want to get root just the the regular updates
At software menu it says that phone is up to date haha
Any suggestions?
is it possible to force an update? (if it is not getting gingerbread so I doubt that he gets ICS later on)
Regards

To be honest I'd root it...do it for him if he's worried about it...his main boards been changed neways lol so I doubt begging else will happen..there's loads of benefits to rooting her neway

What is your friends firmware version? Not android version, but the HTC Firmware.
Should look something like. x.xx.xxx.x - e.g. 1.32.405.6

Software version 2.50.405.2
Kernel 2.6.35.10
Baseband 12.54.60.25U_24.09.04.11
Hope will do any help
Anyhow the question is if (even phone is rooted) it is possible to apply updates without changing ROM?
I have rooted my phone and already tried a bunch of ROMs (currently using Revolution HD 6.3.1) but thats not for my friend. As she wants to have regular HTC rom and get updated version of software.
thanks again

If your looking for a fairly clean rom try leedroids he only works with official releases...there's a list in the Dec section of purely stock Roms bit just rooted I'd go there..If its a lady I'd try the bliss Roms they were designed for the woman apparently lol

thanks arknailed7754 for your post
though my main question still remains if it is possible to force update to original rom. (rooting is not a problem)
regards

Froyo was 2.2..gingerbread started at 2.3 so he's over the original release..I think you can apply the update through adb..with an official ruu. I'm not as knowledgeable as some on here but that's how you can push the phone to the new update..the official are also in Dec section..there's probably a guide in there if you need help applying, surprised he can update though HTC released the official sense 3.0 etc last year q4.
As I said I might be talking out of my ass but go to Do a search in Google with your keywords its in there..

If your unrooted & don't want root, just want to update to the latest firmware then download the RUU in this post -->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22871910&postcount=33
Before you run it, make sure you've got HTC Sync installed (for the USB drivers).
Your current firmware is a WWE x.xx.405.x and matches that of the update posted 3.12.405.1. You should update with no issues. It will however wipe your device, so make sure you backup what you can before you run the RUU.

Thanks for your help.
Will try as soon as get my hends on friends phone.
Will post results.
Thanks again

or you have any other options

Hopefully this will work

I had the same problem with my DHD. Whenever I connected to WiFi, I never got the update. What I did was when I connected my DHD to PC, I selected "Internet Passthrough". And voila, I got a message a few minutes later that an update to Gingerbread is available. Try this and I hope this will resolve the problem.

Froyo Orange

I know its been asked but the answers are very fragmented, so my question is:-
If I'm on Orange, and I've not rooted or unrooted or whatever, do I have to wait for the Desire update, then HTC to play, Then Orange to play?
If so how long is this gonna take from when the Froyo for Desire update is released?
Please dont drag this thread into a when is Froyo gonna be released debate as thats why I'm hvaing to create a new thread in the first place.

as a rule HTC generally dont release there standard update in a region untill all of there branded roms are ready too atleast that was one of the reasons htc gave for the late hero eclair update
I am in exactly the same position as you. I have a unrooted, Ornage branded Desire and I really want Froyo asap.#
Will I get it OTA or will I have to wait for Orange or should I just de-brand and get it OTA?
I have no idea..

That makes no sense to me. All firmware updates are ota, regardless on branding. Non branded phones tend to get sent first. All depends what your carrier has added to the phone.
Prime example: T-Mobile delayed the initial release of Desires because they fecked up their phones with **** they added.

The point is, even if there is an Froyo OTA update for our phones I might not get mine as it's branded to Orange for another few months...
Here is a another thing - as I have an Orange Desire (no modifications - i.e. not flashed and no custom rom), can I unlock the phone from something like HTCCODE and update to Froyo using the official HTC OTA sometime this weekend?
.....but I'm guessing it's not as simple as that?

You'd only have to make a goldcard and flash with a WWE ROM. It'll take about 30 minutes all told.
Question what do you guys understand by branded Orange phone? My Orange Desire has an official HTC ROM if I'm not mistaking, when I open my phone it's load screen says HTC and I don't have any Orange menus or **** on it, it's only network lock. Now the real question will I get the update or not? THX.

My phones locked to orange using a custom 2.1 Rom. Ive avoided changing to 2.2 as it is locked to orange so cant flash the radio. Does the OTA release upgrade the radio and as such will this activate the sim lock?
oh not bad!
Hopefully this should make it clear to everyone....
If you're on an Orange branded ROM, you will not get this update until Orange has fannied around making all of its useless, proprietary junk applications compatible with Froyo. That could take weeks, but will likely take months.
To get this OTA update as soon it's released:
Make a goldcard and insert it into your phone.
Flash a stock rom using an RUU executable (1.15 NOT 1.21)
Wait for HTC to release the update.
In theory, it should be possible to get hold of the new ROM before the mass rollout once someone has captured the link to the file on HTC's servers. This is work in progress (See dev section). As soon as that is found, it will be rooted and posted for mass consumption on this forum.
langers1 mentioned flashing radios causing a simlock on Orange devices. Flashing the 5.09 radio does not cause this problem. I and many others have shown this to be the case.

Really?
If I updated my radio and for whatever reason it did simlock, could I flash my radio back to an older one to unlock it, or would I need to pay to get an unlock code?

This is what I have done, but I don't think I will be able to update to FroYo before I first update to 1.21.
What will happen if i try to update to the latest OTA 1.21?
Just flashed ..5.09 radio and can confirm my Rooted Orange branded didn't simlock. Going to flash my Rom a lot for the first time in weeks

What do these different radio versions mean?
By the power of Grayskull......
I will have the (FroYo) Power!!!
I am planning to root my Orange branded Desire, cos I am not prepared to wait for Orange to release the OTA for Froyo in their own sweet time.
There is just one thing I dont understand. If I root, my version stays at 2.1.
I plan to then load a custom ROM, with A2SD, etc as Android 2.2.
But what if I decide I dont want it any more and I want to go back to my original software?
I have seen stock ROM's but Orange's ROM isnt there. How do I turn my own ROM into a recoverable ROM?
I have spent all day looking through XDA, modaco and google for answers....
Or am I missing something really obvious?
Thanks
Andy
I made a slight oversight in my post above. We're not yet sure, but it could be the case that you have to be running a 1.21 ROM in order to receive the Froyo update. However, the 1.21 OTA update comes with a radio which DOES cause a simlock on Orange devices.
However, I believe that there are 1.21 ROMs available in stickies on this forum that don't have a radio update bundled. Flashing one of these would be the best option for unrooted Orange users to get the update ASAP. It's unlikely that the 5.09 radio will cause problems for those with rooted Desires, so that should be ok too.
However, it's likely that the update will be bundled with a new version of HBOOT which could make rooting impossible. Only get the update OTA if you're sure you'll never want to root your Desire. I for one will be waiting for someone here to patch the update with SU permissions
@stats101
Radios are software packages that interface between your specific phone's hardware and Android OS. Think of them as driver bundles.

How do I know if my Desire is rooted?

I bought a handset off another forum a couple of months back and I think it's a fully unbranded handset, and have been trying to run the 2.2 update, except everytime I get to the green sync symbol after it restarts, I then get a red question mark.
I'm running
Firmware 2.1 update1
Build number .1.1.405.2 CL174215 release keys
Software number 1.21.405.2
So is this rooted? Either way, how do I get the Froyo update to work?
Many thanks!

Yeah thats the one your phone is rooted
Ok. That answers the first part I guess then. Any ideas how I get to Froyo? I can download the update, but it always fails to do it's thing.
Do I have to restore the phone or what? And how?
is your phone branded in any way? even a start up logo ?
and where can you download the update? from system software updates on your phone?
There's no branding on the phone, box or software. I can download the update via software updates.
PS. Thanks for the help so far!
If you can download it from software updates go for it froyo here we go,
no branding is a good sign
Just try updating via the update manager as that should work.
LOL
That's the problem. It doesn't work!
Same thing with me....
I bought a Telstra Branded Handset. Had a company root and install a generic rom. (Telstra handset because it works on ATT 3G.) This morning, the phone told me that I had an Android Software Update (Version 2.2). The phone downloaded it, but wouldn't install. I imagine because the dang thing is rooted.
I will wait a few days for someone to offer a desire rom with 2.2 and HTC sense.
Is there an easy way to restore the handset to it's original software so I can upgrade from there?
Look for the Unrooting guide in the (sticky) guides collection. I believe it just involves flashing a stock rom. But currently you won't be able to root your phone after official OTA froyo update, since it flashes your hboot too. Alternatively you can flash a rooted froyo ROM without hboot.
Edit: Look in development forum for the sticky guide. The place to be for topics like this; it makes them obsolete.

My Desire is rooted, 2.1, not 2.2 Froyo, I wish. But I am trying to things in the file management like install and move around apk files. But it wont allow saying I have no permissions. Rooted to me means God access, but its not really god access. Any ideas why?

Even if you are rooted, you will have READ ONLY access to /system due to NAND protection. You can only write to /system from recovery.

Downgrading 2.50.405.2 to 1.32 ?

Hi,
I just got my dhd back from repair and they updated it to 2.50.405.2 -.-
Is this downgradable yet to root ? I ****in hate standard roms
Please help..
Thanks
i think versions above 2.37 can't be downgraded yet.
i am waiting for downgrade of 2.42 as well. just wait
I to have 2.50.405.2 after repair.
I found rooted this version
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155634&highlight=2.50.405.2
But dont know will it help to change ROM.
If some one will find some solution please share it.
gingerbreak 1.2 not working with 2.50
Well, u need clockworkmod to flash it which u need rom manager for. And for rom manager u need root
I think we'll have to wait.. But the 2.37+ downgrade has been in development for about 2 months now.. Taking way to long
Probably waiting to see which bootloaders are unlocked, as promised.
Due out in September.

If u are S-OFF then u can downgrade to 2.36 by using the RUU version then root ur device,
edit:- i´ve done it more than 3times after updating from 2.36 to 2.50 "OTA" (believe me u can)
U can get the 2.36 ruu here:-

So,if i'm novice and i don't have s-off with 2.50 only thing i can do is wait for downgrade?is that right?

Trivial Question
I have a trivial question, I am very interested in rooting using this method, however I have recently encountered an issue with my stock rom ever since I did the OTA update to 2.43.611.1 The issue is HTC Sence has stopped unexpectedly window pops up quite often & in talking to telus my provider & HTC them selves, they both say the phone needs to be repaired,
My question since I encountered the problem immediatly upon doing the OTA update should I get it repaired first or just try rooting to see if that fixes it.
Also if possible can I be pointed in the direction of how to return to stock Telus if I end up rooting & the probelm still persists?
My thanks to thoes who have diligently be working & involved in helping others & myself reach root status on higher Build numbers.
Great Work!

The reason you're getting the error after the ota update is the same reason why people get issues after installing custom roms and not wiping their device... the old cache and user data conflicts with the update.
Downgrading and then flashing a custom rom along with flashing an updated radio will remedy the problem. I dont believe you'll want to use the initial radio release, I highly recommend flashing the radio from the 2.52 korean release to your Telus DHD, along with the ril's from that release and replacing the ones in the rom you will flash via cwm recovery. ENG S-OFF is required to flash a new radio or recovery img.
Once you downgrade, you can always return to the stock 2.43.661.1 rom. There is a thread in the Desire HD/Inspire 4G Forum on Driphter.com where I've placed the RUU's of common builds (especially for Telus and AT&T). If returning the device for warranty purposes, you must Radio S-On prior to Installing the stock rom via the RUU. The RUU Itself will set ENG to SHIP, and unroot.
Excellent, Greatly appreciated.
Might try rooting as soon as tonight. Kind of excited to have a functional device again!
I am glad that it worked, i thought OH **** the other day, when i found out that i shouldn't have updated to 2.50, if i was about to root..

Is it true??? is any once facing serious disappointments after the upgarde?

Why don't you install a pre rooted version? Then your hboot won't be upgraded and you can return to froyo if necessary.

I had contacted the HTC Support to ask the query regarding the downgrade possibility. The support guy has informed that this HTC Stock GB upgarde is some sorta special upgrade and hence it seems they will rollback my device incase i m not happy ..

No there is an hboot upgrade, I think it just means only they can downgrade it for you which is why you have to take it to their service centre.

i was thinking of doing this too, what is wrong with it,why do people not like it,2.3 has a force to SD card function so memory shouldnt be a problem,a review would be great so i can make a decision, does it affect your SMS and MMS like they said it might? and if this does stuff up then how else could i get it rolled back as i live in australia and have no idea where a service center is,i would have to go to my Telstra store to have it sent in which case im not sure if it is covered by warranty?
Service centre for sydney is fonebiz rokdale
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
At the moment there is no way to have it rolled back, it'll change your boot animation so telstra will most likely notice that you don't have their official rom on it therefore voiding your warranty. I think the main reason people don't like it is that once its installed you can no longer root your phone so you're stuck with it. Also, I'm not sure how great the stock force to sd feature would be.
Sent from my CM7.1 Desire using XDA Premium App
i thought my warranty goes through HTC? at least thats what i was told? if its a ROM by HTC why would it void their own warranty? well is it that bad that ppl want to go back to froyo? or is it coz they just want to complain or what? what is the actual difference that makes it a poor upgrade, and how come u dont think the force SD would be good?
Not so great, better to flash custom rom.

I dont think you can downgrade and I dont think this is an option you want to pursue.
Maybe you can unlock the phone and wipe it and flash an official 2.3.5 RUU.
However you dont sound like you are too interested in learning too much due to your lack of research in xda (not a bad thing, some people just arent) so if the phone is almost new you could perhaps take it back and get the shop to sort it out.

you need to be s-off for it to work, from what I tried.
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
You may be right about s-off, i think its all gonna depend on versions of radio and hboot etc included in the ruu. Maybe the OP can extract the system image from the ruu and flash just that but its all gonna need some research by the OP I think.
