Broken Wimax - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have seemed to be missing my wimax rsa keys. I am not good with pushing codes and do not have a back up of my wimax. They musst have broke when I flashed the lastest version on the radios. What would happen if I flashed them again? would this fix it or no?

If you lost your wimax key and didn't back up, you my friend are up **** creek.

How is there no way of getting them back?

No each key is device specific, so if you lost them with no back up they're gone forever.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App

If its gone its done, because each key is unique to each phone.
What you COULD do is the following, another user tried this, but I don't know the outcome, and you try it at your own risk:
Get another wimax.img from another user, call like sprint tech support, give them your phone information and see if they will give you the wimax key, then try changing the key in the wimax.img.

That's just nonsense haha... Good thing I don't live in an area getting 4g anytime soon

Try this. Remembered this from months ago.

Q - Did you back up your roms at anytime? If so did you back it up with your keys...Just a question?

I have 3 other roms backed up through clockworks.

Seriously.
Odin to stock EB13 and don't mess with it after that. BT voice dial works then.

Samsung Kies is a life saver!

I had a friend that was in a car accident and broke his screen on his T-Mobile Galaxy S II that wanted to save his data before sending it back when he received the replacement. I had no idea that Kies had the ability to backup/restore until today. I was trying to use adb to just pull the data but the device was not rooted and debugging was not enabled.
Then before i gave up i just opened Kies as a last resort method thinking to myself "Hmm... Samsung probably has something for this"
I was able to successfully backup from the one with the broken screen and restore to the replacement in about 20 minutes... Gave him the new phone and everything was all there as if nothing happened, contacts, messages, call logs, settings, pictures, music, videos, etc
I just wanted to share my experience with anyone who did not know about this feature from the Samsung Kies software. Is there anything else that you can do?
What do you use Kies for? Share your experience...

I use it to convert videos sometimes. And backup some pics to pc.

never used it as i am rooted and have better alternatives to choose from
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Yeah, I would normally use other methods of data extraction like adb but like I said the screen was broken. But if your not rooted and you need to get your data this is something that works.

Good tip, I'll have to remember that if anyone comes in my store with similar needs.
See... This is why I thought it would be a good idea to start this thread. I'm glad to see that at least one other person saw this to be useful. Heck, even if only 1 sprint technician does this when customers are replacing phones it will help many customers in the long run.
Shameless bump for the guy with a broken screen with no root.

4G Active but not working?

I'm on CM9 and can't get 4g to work. I live in Philadelphia and have tried using different modems (EL29, FF18, FF25) and tried at different parts of the city but my 4G doesn't work. I can get a connection but when i try to use it, nothing ever loads, can't even get a speedtest to run.
Has anyone ran into this and know what the issue is? I get the feeling that i have to start from scratch and start over...
I'm in the same exact situation. 4g says i have an active connection to sprint in the settings. I have tried reinstalling modems, kernels, roms. Tried different modems, kernels, and roms. Updating prl and profile. I even went all the way back to stock unrooted factory GB. Nothing seems to help. I can provide logs or anything else you may need. I'm in the central Pennsylvania area specifically Enola/Harrisburg.
Sorry for the long post...
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions anyone can give me or the OP.

Ya if sandy came near you that could be the problem. If not I would go back to stock unrooted. If it doesn't work then and you know you have 4g in your area go to sprint.

Up in fortwashington right now- and 4g is back up
Will be back downtown tonight to test that out as well
I just called sprint to ask if we were having 4g issues or if it was just me. They said they are having wide spread issues across the east coast. The ETA for fixing it my area is on the 10th.

Still down. Curious, is anyone having call issues as well? All my calls are going straight to VM lately.
4g confirmed working for me. Using it to write this reply. Wow, Sprint did something ahead of schedule.....

Wifi

Cool deal. Sounds like your phone's wifi is borked. Now how about some information.
Stock
S-off/on
Htcdev unlock
Yeah, rooted or not? If its not, go into bootloader and try doing a factory reset and check again
May just be a corrupted system, so if you root it then you could try flashing another rom to see if that fixes it
My bad yeah its still stock.. I already did the factory reset twice.. talked to sprint customer care.. they said I need to talk to the local sprint store... I think if I root it and put a good ROM on it that it might fix it..
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
Okay so a used or refurbished? If you have no warranty on it by all means root, s-off, and never look back. There are two things that can be your problem. Bad software on system or bad hardware on board. If it is hardware well no wifi but if it is software than you will then have a full rooted super fast evo.
50/50 odds wifi/nofi with no variables added yet.
Bad ota update would make it around 70/30
Next bad htc software 75/25 wifi/nofi
Sure I say go for it. I am doing one as we speak. While taking apart a cheesy Inspire to see if I can get the buttons working after it dived into a wall.

It may be his router causing the issue if it worked at sprint. If its hardware the radio is replaceable and fairly cheap these days. As long as you know how to work a screw driver and aren't a clumsy oaf, all you need to do is open it up extract the part carefully and order a replacement. Then replace it, button it up and give it a test run. Ifixit has the tear down to show you where and how to replace the radio

It could still be the router/phone combo. I know my sons kindle fire didn't like certain network types. It wouldn't even see ad-hoc and wouldn't connect to infrastructure with security. There could be a setting on the evo that isn't playing nice with the network settings or vice versa. Could be hardware, or software. Make sure sprint connections optimizer is off under network settings > more > mobile networks. You could also try reinstalling the firmware with an ruu and see if maybe the radios need updated or something in /system is corrupted
