There was also a bad radio flash around for a while, that's what got me.

Flashing new radios?

What does this even do and is it safe? Or it it just for the newer evos?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
A radio is what communicates with the towers. Newer radios typically are more efficient and give better reception and quality and performance. It is safe as long as you follow directions. EXACTLY. Not all radios will give you better performance and quality a lot depends on where you leave.
For instance, when I had the HTC Hero I kept getting poor reception and battery with the newest radio they would put out so I flashed older ones and got better everything. I don't advise you to do this but on the Hero I actually used a Verizon radio because it gave me a crazy amount of improvement than the Sprint radios did. But what I mean here is experiment with radios in the Evo forums till you find one that gives you good everything.
Please don't go flashing Verizon radios. LOL.

[Q][Newb] do I need to worry about rsa keys on epic?

Hey all, picked up a epic 4g right before closing last night and I'm loving it. Considering rooting it and installing a custom rom. My brother owns a evo and I know with the evo you can lose your rsa keys on a bad flash and permanently lose 4g. Is this a concern for the epic? (I installed darky's rom on my gf's captivate last week and it was easy)
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Never once heard of this happening on an epic, I assume that the epic does not store that on a partition that can get wiped as the evo does. Maybe a dev can confirm with more certainty than me though
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Nope not on the epic. I modded my girls evo and I remember that step. What was your favorite rom for evo?
Sent From My Evo Killer!!!
Didn't mod it because my brother uses it as a business line and uses it as a hotspot. Losing 4g would have been really bad. I was leaning towards miui or maybe sprint lovers
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
We don't have to reflash the 4g radio every time we flash a rom like the evo folks. No worries about rsa keys for us.

Broken Wimax

I have seemed to be missing my wimax rsa keys. I am not good with pushing codes and do not have a back up of my wimax. They musst have broke when I flashed the lastest version on the radios. What would happen if I flashed them again? would this fix it or no?
If you lost your wimax key and didn't back up, you my friend are up **** creek.

How is there no way of getting them back?
No each key is device specific, so if you lost them with no back up they're gone forever.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
If its gone its done, because each key is unique to each phone.
What you COULD do is the following, another user tried this, but I don't know the outcome, and you try it at your own risk:
Get another wimax.img from another user, call like sprint tech support, give them your phone information and see if they will give you the wimax key, then try changing the key in the wimax.img.
That's just nonsense haha... Good thing I don't live in an area getting 4g anytime soon

Try this. Remembered this from months ago.

Search the forums my friend there a few threads on how to get your wimax keys back. Hope you still have the box and in the future nandroid is your friend.
Q - Did you back up your roms at anytime? If so did you back it up with your keys...Just a question?
I have 3 other roms backed up through clockworks.

New phone choice help needed.

I am having Sprint send me a new EVO due a **** load or issues.. my mother is allowing me to use her upgrade after they begin to ship my replacements tomorrow. I'm going to best buy and they have 4G phones....
*HTC EVO 3D

Well I already have an EVO and sprint is sending me another one in a few days once I order it tomorrow. I really do love sense but I have heard a lot of bad about the 3d. Like overheating, freezing, bad funny speakers and reception Nd WiFi issues. Now I'm usually always on WiFi and use bt. So Idk what will happen also I have literally no bars so reception might be even worse for me.

Wifi

Just got my dad a new/ slightly used evo.. try to turn on WiFi and it says turning on for a few seconds then it says error....
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
Cool deal. Sounds like your phone's wifi is borked. Now how about some information.
Stock
S-off/on
Htcdev unlock
Yeah, rooted or not? If its not, go into bootloader and try doing a factory reset and check again
May just be a corrupted system, so if you root it then you could try flashing another rom to see if that fixes it
My bad yeah its still stock.. I already did the factory reset twice.. talked to sprint customer care.. they said I need to talk to the local sprint store... I think if I root it and put a good ROM on it that it might fix it..
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
Okay so a used or refurbished? If you have no warranty on it by all means root, s-off, and never look back. There are two things that can be your problem. Bad software on system or bad hardware on board. If it is hardware well no wifi but if it is software than you will then have a full rooted super fast evo.
50/50 odds wifi/nofi with no variables added yet.
Bad ota update would make it around 70/30
Next bad htc software 75/25 wifi/nofi
Sure I say go for it. I am doing one as we speak. While taking apart a cheesy Inspire to see if I can get the buttons working after it dived into a wall.

It may be his router causing the issue if it worked at sprint. If its hardware the radio is replaceable and fairly cheap these days. As long as you know how to work a screw driver and aren't a clumsy oaf, all you need to do is open it up extract the part carefully and order a replacement. Then replace it, button it up and give it a test run. Ifixit has the tear down to show you where and how to replace the radio

It could still be the router/phone combo. I know my sons kindle fire didn't like certain network types. It wouldn't even see ad-hoc and wouldn't connect to infrastructure with security. There could be a setting on the evo that isn't playing nice with the network settings or vice versa. Could be hardware, or software. Make sure sprint connections optimizer is off under network settings > more > mobile networks. You could also try reinstalling the firmware with an ruu and see if maybe the radios need updated or something in /system is corrupted
