Hi. I've searched many forums - XDA, cyanogenmod, but no one seems to have this problem, and I'm not sure if it's a software problem or a hardware problem. Here's the problem...
Up until a while ago, my CM7 RC2 DZ has been fine, but because I don't boot my phone all the time, I don't remember when it started happening (but it must have started after RC2 was released). Upon booting up the phone - whether it was reboot, power on from off state, or anything, the phone first VIRBATES. normally, after that I'm presented with a WHITE SCREEN with green HTC in the middle, shortly following that, the Cyanogenmod Boot Animation. Now however, i don't see that screen anymore, nor do I see the boot animation. But, the phone still boots into the system normally, albeit having a issue with the display still not activating (the button's lights go on, but the screen is off. something I've read about, and still can't fix). This didn't bug me too much, but now that I"m trying to flash CM7 stable, I realize it's a problem - I can't boot into HBOOT or Recovery, because I don't SEE anything... it's just all black after I reboot. Can't boot into HBOOT or RECOVERY to do any troubleshooting or flashing new firmwares(so i can't navigate because there's no control to "Unlock" or "wake" the screen up in HBOOT or RECOVERY mode). All I see is that the display doesn't even have a backlight - it's almost as if the phone is "off" because there's no indication that it's on.
Somebody please help me =( my phone is still functional and usable... so long as I don't try to access RECOVERY or HBOOT.
So what you are saying that when you Hold volume down + power the hboot doesn't show up?

correct. The phone does it's boot up "vibrate". the screen does not flicker, does not light up, nothing happens. So i can't boot into HBOOT, RECOVERY, i CAN boot into the phone itself (I know it's booted because my buttons light up). But I no longer am presented with any sort of startup screen ( or any screen for that matter )... making it impossible to access any sort of backup utility, etc ...

That's not good. So if you go to rom manger and click on reboot to recovery you just get a black screen? Also do you have eng-hboot?

luckily, I wrote down all my phone's information IN CASE something happened...
VISION PVT ENG S-OFF
HBOOT - 0.84.2000 (PC1012000)
MICROP-0425
RADIO-26.03.02.26_M
eMMC-boot
KERNAL VERSION
2.6.32.28
baseban
12.28b.60.140eU
this is my configuration.
So when I go to Clockwork Recovery, and I try to ask it to boot into RECOVERY, it'll reboot, vibrate, and... that's it lol
It goes without saying that I cannot perform a hard factory reset, ... that requires me to get into HBOOT.

Hmm... I wonder if the hboot file got messed up somehow. You have eng-hboot. Do you know how to use ADB by any chance? I was asking if you had the eng-hboot because you need it for adb. I just want to see if adb can find your device because that would be helpful

Yea I would try to see if Adb can see your phone so you can flash the stock rom and if you can do that you would have stock hboot again. Anyways what method of prem rooting did you do?

adb still can detect my device. I just punched this into my Mac Terminal:
$ adb devices
List of devices attached
HT0ARRV02688 device
I don't quite remember the name for it... but was it called Z Combined Root? Had to Temp ROot and then Perm Root using a special file with filename wpthis-Z.ko (this is the only file I remember that was special esp for the DZ)
As for flashing stock, I don't actually know how to do that via adb...

That's good that adb can see it because people with some type of issue don't have eng-hboot and the can't flash the stock rom, well that what's I've been reading. Also by any chance you used visionary to get temp root? If not I think you used the rage method.
Also am not really good using Adb. Sombody will sure come to help you with this part. Anyways let hope we can fix this issue.

I think I read something that mentioned that the home, menu etc..are not ppart of the screen. Perhaps ur screen went out or may it got disconnected. Have you dropped the phone recently?
Or maybe I missread?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
I have..dropped my phone I suppose, but it didn't affect the display when I'm actually using the phone... that's the weird part. If the display gave out, I would assume I wouldn't be able to use the phone at all. There's no physical damage to the exterior of my phone at all... it was a pretty light drop, but I didn't see where it landed on the phone...

bump. i still need help on this... it won't turn on. miraculously, the boot worked ONCE. Coincidentally it was the time I called in to Bell Customer Service/Technical Support. Felt really stupid when it ONLY worked when I was on the phone with the technician and he told me to VOL DOWN + POWER. it worked when He was on the phone with me =_=... therein after I flashed Cyanogenmod 7 Stable, and I have resumed having these problems once again. So I can at least confirm it's not only on RC2 - it's on CM 7 as well. I'm starting to think it isn't the software, but probably a corrupted bootloader.
If you want to be directed to the ClockworkMod menu but can't navigate to it use ROM manager or Quickboot plus to get there. You might to need a ROM on your sdcard or have one installed. The reason for your boot trouble is a file might corrupted in the folder that contains your boot animation. This might not be fixed by flashing a new ROM but its worth a try. Use third party apps like ROM Manager and Quicknoot plus to open up your ClockMod Recovery Menu if necessary to install a new ROM. Hope I helped

thanks, but I"ve already tried that. Because i cannot access clockwordmod, i've been using ROm manager ever since, and it's still difficult to manage because I kind of have to trust that the phone does what it's doing when i tell it to backup or flash something... in the end, it still ends up having to restart to do the flashing, but like I said I can't see the screen to actually know if stuff is actually getting done. I want to know how I can reflash the boot animation, because i'm also quite positive it's a problem with the boot but not the firmware..
Hi, ive been lurking on the xda forums for months, and have succesfully roooted and run darky rom on my galaxy s. then i got a wildfire s second hand.
Now i decided to try for s-off and a custom cwm rom. downloaded all the files read everything i could, and have managed to brick it i think.
Result if i press power or volume down + power i get a flickering screen, it flashes grey for 2 sec, black 2 sec. there is a faint red glow to the right of the front htc logo...where i thought the camera was lol.
i was trying to use the htcdev.com route. downloaded :
PG7610000_Marvel_hboot_1.09.0099_2.13.401.3_0210_R .exe
and tried but it said i needed an earlier rom before i could update.
2.13.401.3 to be exact so i downloaded:
RUU_Marvel_S_HTC_Europe_2.13.401.3_Radio_47.23c.35 .3037_7.54.39.28M_release_236989_signed.exe
which was hard to find and a pain to download...i ran this, it found my phone, gave me the usaul warnings, check battery etc, everything set so i told it go ahead, it ran for bout 7 or 8 minutes my phone went to a black screen with htc, did a progress bar then it said finished on the pc. left it for a few more minutes to be sure, then powered on my htc. screen starts flicking grey and white...
ive tried removing the battery, cant get into hboot, get no logos, no vibration, nothing.
sdcard has been removed and sim card.
usb cable inserted charges then goes to flickering screen. pc does not detect any android device connected...
this was last night. searched all the forums i know, googled, found one post similiar but no1 really helped him just told him to take back for warranty...

Hello I'm no expert but I hope to try and help OK so you can turn the phone on, and it flickers and then the screen goes black? Does the phone remain on after the black screen? If so what is the longest you have left it?
Also when you tried to connect it to your PC did you try in *rom mode* or *hboot * mode?
If rom mode try in hboot mode and see if your PC can connect to it. If it can try to re-run the ruu and see if it brings it back to life.
It sounds to me like either the bootloader or your radio is ****ed. And neither are easy to fix. But report back with your findings and we'll take it from there good luck.

I had it running from the rom and running the ruu says device not connected now. Can't load into hboot anymore either...it flickers grey and black continuously and the longest is bout 7min I left it...I'm nt in a panic bt want to get it running for my gf and thanks for taking the time to try help

OK hold down the volume down + power for 10 seconds and then connect to the PC by USB and see if it shows up. And its cool man, always happy to help
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
Holding volume and pressing power causes the flickering to start again...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
And does the PC connect to it? Because our only real hope, since your s-on is that by holding down power +volume down you can get the PC to connect to it and the see if fastboot is still functional, then run a ruu. If it cannot, you could try to take the ruu, remove the rom.zip from it, (run it on the PC with a process moniter, wait until it moves the file to the temporary folder and take it) rename to pg76img.zip put it on the sdcard, boot into hboot and wait for a bit, then push volume up and hope that it runs the update and fixes your screen. If that doesn't work then you have indeed bricked it.

hi
i have the same problem but in my wfs i can trun it on but the voloume button didint work
Hello,
I wanted to debrand my htc wildfire s, and after many unsuccessful attempts (main version older) following other tutorials on the forums, I finally went to this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162971
Followed it step by step, everything was as expected until the flash in the end finished and the phone, instead of booting, entered boot loop.
Now when I try to boot it or to enter bootloader, the backlight turns on for a second, turns off after that, then again turns on for a second, off... and etc. It doesn't even show the HTC screen. When I turn it off and connect it to usb - it charges.
I am already assuming the worse, but if anyone has any ideas, it will be great, as this is my girlfriend's phone and I can already see the tears in her eyes when she understands the phone is dead... :'(
Can you get the phone into hboot?
Pull battery,
then put it back in,
then hold volume down and press power while still holding volume down
If luck is on your side you should be in hboot
Unfortunately I have tried that already - still the same backlight on / off / on ... loop. :-/
Try battery out, back in, connect USB, then try to boot into bootloader. See if your PC picks it up. If it does try to issue the fastboot command "fastboot reboot recovery" and see if it goes.
Also does it vibrate when its having its flashy seziure?
sent from my android powered beast!
Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion. Tried that also - unfortunately - no vibration (qualcom diagnostics seems to not be the case - unfortunately).
Connecting it to usb brings the orange "charging" light for a 5-10 secs, after that the phone tries to boot and enters the bootloop again.
I think after 5 HTC phones, I will finally have one matching my avatar... :'-(
Hmm. Does the PC pick it up at all?

Whoa, I wouldn't be so hasty. Try taking your old one to a service first, it'll cost you a lot less
@johnnyspritz
I am thinking about sending it back to repair, the phone is still under the 2 years warranty. However if they find a way to read the contents of the boot or system partition (JTAG?), they might have some arguments against applying the warranty :-D
Hi Simaka,
Like you my phone is in the same boot loop....
Can't access to Bootloader, no HTC Logo.
I have try to contact HTC, but the mail they send me was out of context ....
If you find any solution, please share it ;-)
Hi, for sure I will. For now I will try to return it in the shop where I bought it as it is still s-on and locked bootloader, so they might agree to take it back. I checked the possibility to buy JTAG connection equipment, but it amoints to 150€ with shipping, plus probably a month or 2 of troubleshooting...
One interestimg thing to note is that during the procedure described on the link above the current rom version in misc.img before editing it was 9.9.9.9
I believe this was a way of artificially imposed restriction so any attempt to update would fail...

Hi guys
I have a stock unrooted Desire HD which a friend borrowed from me & he gave back to me broken. Grrrr!
Basically what is happening is when you power on the phone, everything seems normal at first, the phone boots up, the HTC logo appears for a few minutes as it's loading & it brings me to the lock screen as normal.
When the phone is unlocked, however, the HTC logo appears again & the phone reboots, repeating the cycle all over again.
I've tried to factory reset the device to no avail.
Are there any suggestions on how I can get this phone up and running again?
I did want to root it & flash another ROM to it, but from what I can remember (i have another Desire HD which I rooted a year ago) the phone needs to be working in order to install the required software to root it.
Any help would be very greatly appreciated

Well, I would try to do a full wipe first (thou you have already done a factory reset). Then, I would try to flash a ruu, if that is not working, you can run the Kit from fastboot choosing that option, but of course you have to make sure that you have no hardware issue of the phone could end up useless.
What did he do to end up like that??
Hi glevitan
thanks for your advice. I have no idea what he did. He lives overseas and was visiting here so I gave home the phone to borrow while he was here.
Then when he went back home a few months ago, he gave the phone back to me & I haven't powered it on until now. So I haven't had a chance to ask him.

I had a soft brick on my E988 today and it kept going into recovery so I googled and got a file called exit recovery.zip that supposedly helps. Flashed and it died just like yours. Total hard brick. I think we both have to get it replaced. Sad thing about mine is it was the last piece when I bought it 4 days ago.

IT WAS THE FACTORY DLL AND TOT USED ON LGFLASHTOOLS!!! IT does nothing but flash the back and menu button when plugged into computer or wall charger.. AT&T wants to charge me $200 when I bought it for $.99.... and it back on sell for $.99 NOW!!!.. but I used my upgrade on this phone... UGH!!!!! bastards... obviously they dont know I rooted, unlocked bootloader and flashed roms and they arent gonna know... but it does have some noticable dings and a F*ed up crack on the screen.. I've complained to AT&T, LG, and Asurion which is AT&T insurance...
BUT!!! I think I might have found the answer!!! So when I plug phone into computer it reads as QHUSB_DLOAD... so I searched and searched... and like ALWAYS ***GOOGLE*** sent me an angel from heaven!!! lol.. well i hope so... I will post more when I figure out if it works or not.. I had to re DL the TOT files since I forgot where I stored them lol about another hr and I have been at this for about 20 hrs so Im gonna go get some sleep.. and Im a hard sleeper so I probably wont wake up till ALOT later today... but xda will be the first to hear about it!!! zZzZzZzZ...
Root, unlock and flash?? WTF is that???
On this phone, QHUSB_DLOAD means you need to get it jtag'd as the needed files to recovery it with QPST tools are not available.
Ya my idea didn't work.. Damnit I miss that phone... So can I make my own JTAG? Or how can I get this resolved? As cheap and as quickly as possible??

We can say it's on every phone with a qualcomm chipset.
AFAIK there is no way to boot the GPro from a sd card.
You need to get your phone jtag'd.

The guy who did it was named Joe over at brickedmyphone (dot) com. not trying to advertise for them or anything. But for $50 I was able to get my phone out and back in 7 days fully operational. It wasnt a bad price either. I contacted Joe up front asking questions on if JTAG would work and he thought so as well. If JTAG doesnt take, he will refund the price minus shipping costs back. So really you got nothing to lose.
I can say that I was happy. He got my phone and JTAG it the same day. Sent me pics of it operational and everything. I was able to verify it was mine by the IMEI in one of the pics he sent. He sent it out that day and I would have had it back in 6 days but there was a Sunday involved.
