[Q] htc marvel / wildfire s - think i bricked it...help? - HTC Wildfire S

Hi, ive been lurking on the xda forums for months, and have succesfully roooted and run darky rom on my galaxy s. then i got a wildfire s second hand.
Now i decided to try for s-off and a custom cwm rom. downloaded all the files read everything i could, and have managed to brick it i think.
Result if i press power or volume down + power i get a flickering screen, it flashes grey for 2 sec, black 2 sec. there is a faint red glow to the right of the front htc logo...where i thought the camera was lol.
i was trying to use the htcdev.com route. downloaded :
PG7610000_Marvel_hboot_1.09.0099_2.13.401.3_0210_R .exe
and tried but it said i needed an earlier rom before i could update.
2.13.401.3 to be exact so i downloaded:
RUU_Marvel_S_HTC_Europe_2.13.401.3_Radio_47.23c.35 .3037_7.54.39.28M_release_236989_signed.exe
which was hard to find and a pain to download...i ran this, it found my phone, gave me the usaul warnings, check battery etc, everything set so i told it go ahead, it ran for bout 7 or 8 minutes my phone went to a black screen with htc, did a progress bar then it said finished on the pc. left it for a few more minutes to be sure, then powered on my htc. screen starts flicking grey and white...
ive tried removing the battery, cant get into hboot, get no logos, no vibration, nothing.
sdcard has been removed and sim card.
usb cable inserted charges then goes to flickering screen. pc does not detect any android device connected...
this was last night. searched all the forums i know, googled, found one post similiar but no1 really helped him just told him to take back for warranty...
i live in south africa, dont know of any cellphone shops that can help me, please say its not a lost cause...
before attempting this my hboot was:
0.90.000
radio 7.46.35.08
s-on
.........anything else you need to know just ask....oh was running the htc sync drivers with sync not running on a windows xp sp3 32bit...
any help HUGELY appreciated, sorry for the long post....

dont get tensed ...
as u r s -on so u
can go to htc gallery and tell the people to have u a help....

Hello I'm no expert but I hope to try and help OK so you can turn the phone on, and it flickers and then the screen goes black? Does the phone remain on after the black screen? If so what is the longest you have left it?
Also when you tried to connect it to your PC did you try in *rom mode* or *hboot * mode?
If rom mode try in hboot mode and see if your PC can connect to it. If it can try to re-run the ruu and see if it brings it back to life.
It sounds to me like either the bootloader or your radio is ****ed. And neither are easy to fix. But report back with your findings and we'll take it from there good luck.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium

I had it running from the rom and running the ruu says device not connected now. Can't load into hboot anymore either...it flickers grey and black continuously and the longest is bout 7min I left it...I'm nt in a panic bt want to get it running for my gf and thanks for taking the time to try help

OK hold down the volume down + power for 10 seconds and then connect to the PC by USB and see if it shows up. And its cool man, always happy to help
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium

Holding volume and pressing power causes the flickering to start again...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA

And does the PC connect to it? Because our only real hope, since your s-on is that by holding down power +volume down you can get the PC to connect to it and the see if fastboot is still functional, then run a ruu. If it cannot, you could try to take the ruu, remove the rom.zip from it, (run it on the PC with a process moniter, wait until it moves the file to the temporary folder and take it) rename to pg76img.zip put it on the sdcard, boot into hboot and wait for a bit, then push volume up and hope that it runs the update and fixes your screen. If that doesn't work then you have indeed bricked it.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium

Nothing I do seems to get me into hboot or a rom...pc doesn't pick up usb either...so I think my bootloader kicked the bucket....is there any way to save this phone now? Thx for the help everyone who has replied, and those with the same problem.good luck...

You could try to use a j-tag but it would end up costing you more than the phone tbh. Sorry bud.

Don't know how to use jtag anyway...thanx for trying
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA

thank you everyone
thancks everyone who put some effort in, sori i didnt have good news, gonna put the phone on ice and see if anyone in durban has jtag will post up a reply if i have any luck and hope what happened to me helps someone else. take care, will still be in xda but probably in the galaxy s forums, cheers

Try going to where you bought it and saying you had it charging all night and it happed then demand a refund (hopefully you get someone who says ok)

HELP! Black Screen

Hi Guys, long time no seen.
so... after a long time not really playing a lot with my HTC DESIRE I've decided to UNROOT it. I have started to be a'normal' user..
I downloaded the RUU, installed HTC SYNC and started to run the RUU installation.
everything went great. At the end I hade a message the phone is ready to use, and there it came to me - the screen isn't working.
My screen is fully black, but the phone and the buttens work. I hear the sound of the phone turning on and afterwards pressing the volume buttens to hear some noise..
When I try to enter the bootscreen buy vol.key down+power I still can't see anything.
I have really no idea what to do!!! Does HTC can maybe fix my device? probably the UNROOTing went succesfully so there will not be any problems.
but i'm afraid they will find out i've rooted and then they will not fix it and maybe even tell me to pay for the sending myself..
I'm living in a far country so it is a real deal.
Is there anything for me to do??? PLEASE HELP MEEE!
Sounds like you ran an ruu for an AMOLED on an SLCD device or vice versa.
Which ruu did you run?

F***! You are probably right.
I ran this RUU:
RUU_Bravo_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.19.707.6_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_rel_124362
I'm almost 100% sure my device is SLCD...
Do you have an idea what can i do? I can't run another RUU now because i have to enable the USB debugging and it's pretty complicated to do without a screen.
Is there an option? I've tried to enable the usb debugging using some images on the web but it was unsuccesfull.
Try running
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_143921_signed.exe
Its a newer one so shouldn't be screen specific
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
I'm sorry if you havn't understood me, but i can not run another RUU now because the screen is black, and i can't enable USB debugging so I can't connect the phone to the PC properly.
Do you need usb debugging?
Try it without. Boot the phone into fastboot (power on & back key) leave it for 30 seconds. Then try the ruu.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
I'm trying to, but it isn't going...
I probably need someone to video or printscreen of all the steps for the usb debugging enabling.
I'm on a custom rom so can't help there sorry.
Can you access your sdcard?
If so, you could extract the PB99IMG.zip file and put it on the root of your sdcard. I think there's only 1 input required then
Have search on here on how to extract PB99IMG.zip and see if it works.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
I can access the SD CARD.
I had a search about the file tou asked but I really havn'y understood aa thing I should do. I got really lost.
Can you explain a little? thanks
EDIT: I ran a search in the SD Card and the file you said isn't there at all...
You have to extract it from the ruu you've downloaded and then put it on your sdcard.
Search on PB99IMG and you should find instructions on how to do it.

It's just the missing SLCD driver.
Don't worry, do that what mikep99 says.

[Q] Is my Desire Recoverable?

hey everyone,
i recently tried to do a factory restore on my Desire using a Telus RUU from shipped-roms, however, it did not complete the update (because I forgot about needing a Gold Card)
However, now my phone just goes to a screen with the HTC logo in the middle and and exclamation triangle in each corner. No matter how I try and turn my phone on (Volume Down + Power / Back + Power / Menu + Power) they all come to the same screen with the HTC logo and exclamation triangles. Is there something I can do to recover my phone back to the OS (ANY OS will do)?
thankyou in advance for any help.
Yes all is not lost you need to connect the phone to a computer, pc or laptop and get the adb drivers and the adb software from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
This will allow you to get past the triangle thing and into recovery to flash a rom. Have a read of the link I have you about the adb and the thing your looking for I think is something like adb recovery_windows.bat that you will download as part of the adb stuff.
I have had it a few times and managed to fix with adb for windows
Look at the how to flash a rom section it tells you about the triangle thing you have at the moment
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
hi Dazzlet
i've got the adb software on my computer, just waiting for the java thing to download so I can install it. Looking through the link you gave me, I am not finding any information about where to go from here? I checked out the sections you said I should, but I can't find anything regarding the triangles thing I am getting. Any more help would be appreciated...
Sorry for being a pest.
In the link there is a section with a green heading that says how to flash a rom that is the steps you need to take to fix the problem
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Sorry if I'm being naive, all I am finding is information on how to do this from the phone. Am I just missing something on how to install a ROM from my pc without being able to interact with my Desire? Thank-you again.
Alright managed to figure it out. Was a gold card creation issue. My Desire HD memory card is MMC2, which isn't supported in the gold card tool app. After that I got a RUU to load onto my phone.

I tried to unlock the bootloader on my device a little over a week ago - bricked it completely.
Had updated HBOOT and everything went fine - 'success' message appeared, etc.... Then my handset died and it wouldn't switch back on; it just flashed on and off repeatedly when powered on and I couldn't stop it, unless I pulled the battery. Couldn't access bootloader, couldn't do anything.
Took it to the local Three shop and they wouldn't touch it. So, I chanced my luck with HTC and was upfront about what had happened, i.e. I'd started the bootloader unlock process using their own HTC Dev software.
I've just got the 'phone back and they had to replace the motherboard. Haven't charged me for picking it up, via UPS, the repair OR sending it back to me, also via UPS.
I had hoped they'd ship back with the bootloader unlocked but they haven't! Doh.
Ah well, can't complain. HTC have definitely earned my gratitude, though, and I'll no doubt stick with them in future. I've just got to remove all the crappy pre-loaded software again.
so i basically have a bricked phone damn i needed it only phone i have n probably will have for awhile i had so much important #'s , notes , ext... im clueless to either tell HTC the truth or just buy another android phone idk :/
any ideas?? is it bricked or not i just need help why isn anyone paying this post any attention .. where is all the pros?

You haven't even given details. Did you root? Custom ROM?
Try flashing an RUU.
My experience
This weekend I bricked my phone almost also.
Just installed a new version of my ROM to test and then it hanged or so.
When trying power on (normally and with volume down), nothing happened and I got the 3 vibrates.
I removed my SD card and then the phone would boot again
I really hope I don't get that anymore
BTW: my SD card is really old, around 2 years or more (so that may be the cause)
Format your SD card, then see if that works

Hiya Fantastic7,
The same happened to me exactly! I got the ROM from the web (the filename was OK, but the content wasn't.) I went ahead with the flash, now I have a Wildfire S which upon power on produces the following symptoms:
a.) flashes the red LED and a white line at the bottom of the screen blinks, then turnes the screen off, and starts the process in a cycle until the battery is removed
b.) does NOT vibrate or allows me to enter the HBOOT menu (POWER and VOL Down button).
The phone is S-ON (I checked it in the HBOOT before updating the RUU Rom on the phone) but SIM free.
So far the solution I found is to send it off and it'll be taken apart and RE-ROMmed. (Search for fonefunshop - bloody forum doesn't allow me to insert link)
There's a video of the procedure (with a HTC Desire) here: youtu.be /-awHNhxG480
Keep me posted if you find anyhting else helpful.
Why don't you claim your warranty?

can some one tell me how to turn on usb debugging mode using pc....:crying:
What happens if you plug the USB into the PC and then quickly boot to hboot?
Also, since you have access to the Bootloader you should download a good copy of the rom. Remove the rom.zip from the ruu and then rename it to pg76img.zip and put it on your sdcard. Reboot to BootLoader and let it run the update.

F**k. That's not gone well buddy but! Ill do my best to help Ok so I think you have hot your device stuck in qualcomm diagnostic mode. Which isn't very good. But, some people have had some luck coming out of it when the device vibrates 3 times. Also since you are full s-off (I assume by xtc clip?) Then you may be in luck
Afaik the idea behind that mode is that the phone is doing things, but with no visual. So, if a recall correctly you can put a recovery that is flash able by BootLoader and it will flash it. But I think you should take your stock ruu, remove the rom.zip by using a process manager and then throw that on the root of you sdcard after renaming it pg76img.zip (I think that's the wfs code??) Boot the phone into BootLoader and wait for two or so minutes. We will assume that it has asked you to perform the sdcard update. Push volume up. That will hopefully make it install the rom ect and fix it up for you. But be careful and remember to RESEARCH this before you do anything. If I recall correctly their is a thread dedicated to this! Good luck man

thanks for trying to help)
I followed some guide i found using google to get s-off... atleast i assume it worked since on the phone it changed it from s-on to s-off.
I tried placing the zip on the sd card and waited 5mins hit vol up then 10 mins hit volum up again, then took out battery reinserted but just get three vibrates and blackscreen again on reboot.
Looks like virgin mobile replacing it may be my last hope ...
That's not good. Looks like it. Well, in theory your phone should be stock. So they can't refuse you on the grounds of you messing with it. Just say it stopped working and you don't understand or something like that.
