I have two evos. The first one has screen issues and a bad speaker. So I used my insurance to get a new one. All has been well until last night. I got home from work and before going to bed, I tried to plug in my phone. It wont charge. Tried two different chargers, two different usb cables, tried plugging into my laptop. All a no go. So I thought, why not just plug the old evo in and charge its battery, then I can just swap it out in the morning. Well guess what, it wont charge either. Has anyone ran into charging issues?? Is there some kinda trick I can do to try and fix this?? Thanks again.
I've had two chargers do that to me, but when I would connect one it would charge but if I moved the phone it wouldnt charge, I used another one and sure enough that one stopped working, I'm on my third charger rigs with a usb and an extension usb Lol, its working fine, try a new charger.

So when the unresponsive screen when grounded issue came about, I didn't really notice the problem much myself. However, recently, and I'm not sure when this started, the screen has become horribly unresponsive when charging any time! Doesn't matter if it's on desk, in my hand, stock charger, 3rd party charger, etc., if it's charging at all, the touch screen only accepts half or less of my inputs, making typing impossible. Is this due to the last software update? Anyone else experience this issue? I would exchange the phone, but not if it's not going to help anything.
this happens to me when i use my cheap ebay charger
The fps lifting kernels fix this.
+1 for symtoms seen when using a wonky charger/cable.
+1 due to cheap charger - anyone know why this happens? is the OEM usb cable different spec from the cheap ones?
Hate to beat a dead horse, but the same happens when I plug my phone into the charger I got from eBay. Kind of disappointing, considering that I would otherwise be able to charge two batteries at the same time.
I notice this issue with the stock charger.
I believe the issue was when its not grounded..
Being plugged in is just about the most grounded your phone can get.
That's not the problem.
Starting to do it to me also now.
Just to be clear, this happens to me with the STOCK charger.

I'm having the same issue. i just chocked it up to the new kernel.
one thing i did notice is it seems to be intermittent. Yesterday night, it worked fine. this morning(conveniently when my alarm went off) i could NOT get the dismiss thingy to slide down.
Anyone else experiencing this? I do think it got worse after last software update. Would be nice if the next one improved things.
I emailed support, they did not say anything about it being a known issue, and suggested a factory reset. If that doesn't help, they recommended using my warranty. Would like to hear from more people before going through with the reset.
It happens to me when charging via outlet. Charging via USB connected to computer does not produce the issue.
I think it has to do with grounding.
Same thing happens to me! I noticed it with my aftermarket wall charger.
Bringing this back up, happens to me with a Stock charger.
Is it really the kernel? :\
@Person who said charging is the most grounded, the stock charger is not grounded ( in AU anyway ) and therefore it is the LEAST grounded.
ive noticed this happening over the past month or so. i've got to admit i've only really noticed this when its plugged into a usb cord i got off ebay. relieving to think it might only be an issue with it being a cheap cable and not the phone but i'll verify tonight with the stock cable.
I've been plagued by this problem for weeks and just discovered that it only happens when charging. I use the stock charging cable and wall adapter. I'm very, very happy to know what the problem is. I'm going to start testing this at various locations.
EDIT: I've tried this on both the wall adapter at work and on my work computer's usb. Same problem, though it seems worse when plugged into the wall outlet.
The touchscreen is fine on my sprint brand car charger and on the usb charger on my laptop. However, it starts missing taps when I plug my usb cable into my usb car charger. I'm going to best buy tonight to buy a different charger and see if that helps.

I have these issues as well with the stock charger and cable regardless of which kernel I use.
Ok, I've searched for a couple of hours with no luck, so please don't kill me if the answer is already out there.
I plugged my phone into the pc and transferred a couple of files, nothing malicious. Now, when I plugged it back into the A/C adapter that came with the phone, it won't charge. I tried it again on the pc and it charges that way. I tried my girls Epic charger (with the A/C adapter that it came with) and it started charging...for about a minute. Now that one doesn't work with the adapter either, only the pc. Does anyone know what the deal is? I need my phone for work, as I am in the car all day, but I am afraid to use the car charger because I fear that will stop working as well.
Please help if u can. If u have any questions, please ask. Thank you very very much!

Kind of an odd problem, and I don't have specific knowledge of it. But just some random ideas ("couldn't hurt" type stuff): have you tried powering the phone off, than on again? Or try taking out the battery and putting it back, making sure its firmly seated, and all contacts are touching?
Thanks for replying. Thankfully, my phone accepted a charge from the car charger. I did try a battery pull and reboot.
I found out the hard way that whatever happened also screwed up some settings...for example, the phone did not vibrate when the alarm went off this morning. I went jn and manually changed stuff back to my settings.
So basically, I can charge the phone with its original usb on a computer, but it won't work when plugged into the AC adapter. I can use the usb/ac adapter from the Epic (yesterday I thought I couldn't...that was my mistake). Essentially it seems like the usb or phone itself damaged the adapter, so it will no longer work. Problem is, I don't know if it will happen again. I'm toying with just contacting tmo and getting the phone replaced, but I don't know if they will send a new one (I got my phone in october, a couple of weeks after released)

Have you tried using your charger to charge a different phone? It might be possible that your AC charger is busted?

That's what I'm thinking. Its pretty unusual for a phone to accept a USB charge and not an AC one (the reverse seems the more typical problem). And especially if a charger for a different phone works.
I'd ask T-Mobile for a new charger, and go from there.
Thanks again for the replies, I really appreciate it. Yeah, I tried using the ac adapter with the Epic, using both usb cords, all with no luck. I just don't know how this happened. Plugged into the computer, then into the ac charger (like a hundred times before) and it kills the ac charger? Weird, and I'm worried about it happening with a new charger...I'm still under warranty, does tmo send new or refurb phones as replacements, I wonder...lol. thanks again!

Ok, this is the first problem ive had with my evo, it was working fine until i lost my usb cord, then bought a new oem htc ac plug with a generic cable, the price was too good to pass, so i figured the generic cord wouldnt matter. It was working fine until a week ago, i plugged the cord into my laptop so i could test a rom, and it was copying it over, but very slowly, then it stopped, and said it was dissconnected. Also, windows is now dtating it could preform faster if i plugged it into a usb 2.0 port, even though, all my usb ports are 2.0. i kept trying it until it finally copied it fully, but later on i tried to test another rom, and the same problem continued, i tried an old htc cord the had broken prongs(the ones that keep it in the phone), so i held it at an angle, and it worked flawlessly, so i was wondering if buying a new oem cable would help or is my evo getting close to its expiration date.
__End Rant__ lol, i know i ttalk alot
EDIT: I forgot to mention that Charging the phone also dissconnect if the device if any pressure is put on the cord, even the slightess pressure dstopss charging.
I think the cord is just bad but you dont need a oem one.
Hello,
Recently the charge light on my phone started flashing when I plug it in to charge. While plugged in the phone switches to charging and not charging with the flashing light, as if I was plugging in the phone and unplugging it. Fortunately I have an external charger I can charge my batteries because it never charges while in the phone.
Reading other posts I've read that this could be due to an overheating battery, bad charger, bad cable or a bad battery. I have different batteries, chargers and cables and all have yielded the same result.
I'm Running CM on my Dinc . Possibly coincidentally this problem started when I installed adfree. However I have removed adfree and even flashed my phone with the newest stable CM.
Any ideas? Perhaps something fried in my phone.
Thanks in advance!
the port might be dead. will it still transfer over usb to a pc?
Thanks for the reply!
Nope, not recognized at all. Not even with USB debugging on.
That is what I was thinking to, but always optimistic of what people have done here. Kinda surprised that I haven't been able to find anyone with the same issue. Just lucky to have a unique problem!
Guess I have a hard decision ahead.... Rezound or Nexus
yeah no USB response is never a good thing.
How long have you had the phone? do you have the insurance?
Had this happened to me once due to the charging port being dirty. I just took an old toothbrush and some alcohol and brushed the dirt out. Has worked fine ever since.
Out of the blue I noticed my S3 was charging very slowly, it even was losing a charge while it was plugged in while I was using it. I figure it had something to do with my custom ROM so I reflash, still same outcome. The battery was still holding a good charge, so I figured it was something else. I then went out and bought a new charger, which came with a micro usb cord to see if that helped. Plugged in the new charger while using my old micro usb cord, still same outcome. Then used the new micro usb cord and old charger, charging went back to normal, problem solved! I would of never thought that the cord would malfunction from day to day use after such a short lifespan. Moral of the story, check your cords if you experience the same problem, it could save you some time and money!
Cables do go bad. Also, check for gunk in either end of the cable or even the phone's socket. I've seen all kinds of odd problems caused by lint and gunk in cables or plugs.
Same problem here waiting for my new cables to come to see if that's it

Hopefully it's the cord and not the charge port.

That is why I have a couple cords always laying around. I've found that simple things as unplugging it to fast and it gets pulled wrong. Go figure.

True story; My wife has an S3. Over the Memorial Day weekend my wife had charged her phone with a EVO charger overnight. Next morning as we were leaving for the beach her phone was DEAD. I TOLD HER TO PUT IT ON THE CAR CHARGER, NOTHING. I asked if the phone was plugged in anyway long story short phone would not charge until I took the battery out and used the factory charger two hours all was well. Careful what you use to charge your handset.
I was having this problem, but the battery is over a year old and I live in a hot part of the world. Swapped the battery for a new one and everythings back to new. Fast chargimg and 9 hours of use. So glad I didn't go ti an HTC with a sealed battery compartment.

I would replace the battery and charger.
I've got the same problem. But my phone sits in a hot work truck most of the day. I suspect the battery is worn out now. I've tried new cables.
You could always try a new oem battery, they're pretty cheap on eBay. Make sure you get an oem though and stay away from the cheap knock offs.
