Search for the answer?
The first thing you should do is more searching... any possible fixes for your problem are out there somewhere on the internet or this forum.
As far as I can gather your phone is hung at the boot screen. You should be able to fix this from the sound of the problem:
Have you tried to reflash an RUU ? That might be your best option.
Also to get the existing ROM you have on it working try booting to recovery (hold power + volume down) and doing a factory reset (Clear Data)

Give more details for your software and hardware. And what you did before this issue appears.

hehehe I am not a programmer
unless you want to teach me about android ..hehehehhe

I met this issue, too
I recorded the behavior in this video:
https: picasaweb.google.com /lh/photo/6GykUopey3nu9Z70enPM3EpG5uDDYPubKeZF8WhOv90?feat=directlink
... Please assemble the url above manually as the system don't let me post it now
The center button has something wrong as I must keep one finger pressing on it to let the system work as normal. The worst thing is that I'm in a foreign country and won't get back for several months...
Is there any way to disable the center button? I've rooted my phone but haven't tried to use custom rom.

I got a funny result...
After trying to use the program from unrevoked in ubuntu, the buggy button returned to normal... Hope it won't happen again...
I'll keep monitor it in the following days......

It's still happening...
I've sent a message to HTC and they asked me to reset the phone as it may caused by software. But it looked like a hardware issue...

@dexter93
Oh yes there is an safe mode!! On boot screen, htc logo, hold vol down till phone vibrates, then release and your desire is in safemode, without any of your installed apps!!

safe mode
there is a safe mode, hold down menu key when you switch phone on and the phone will start up in safe mode. the phone will display safe mode in the left lower corner of the screen.

To get out of safe mode simply reboot your phone.... If that doesn't work I think your menu button is sticking - try booting while tapping menu a few times...

Btw, does anyone know what for is this safemode? I was googeling but did not find an answer

In safe mode, only some applications could be executed. You could remove some buggy apps in safe mode.
HTC had replied that I must send the phone back to Taiwan for checking, although they have local branch here in Japan. I'm considering to buy some tools and try to fix it by myself...... In this point, Apple does provide better service than HTC...from a sad HTC customer...

I've tried to open it (following the articles found in internet) and do some cleaning. It's still happening...XD

Oh yes
I Try To Hold tarackball+home+power button
I finally get out of safe mode
but menu button, volume, home, and search not working
because I can install applications and do not reduce my HTC desire performance
Sorry if my engglish langue is bad...

Well it is an Hardware issue. I plugged mine to debug and found that some keys are not responding.
Now the hardware keypad works in a very different way, it uses permutation and combination to figure out which key is pressed. Sometimes because of a faulty joint (due to moisture or anything), 2 or more keys may be dysfunctional.
In my case HTC Desire minus Volume, track ball & the track button keys was not working. I thought the fault was with the the volume key, but when I disconnected keyboard cable from main board and booted, my Volume keys worked just fine and it was not going to safe mode, perfect boot.
So there I knew the problem was with my keyboard. I tried cleaning it and unplugged tracker cable too but still it goes to safe mode. Finally I some how stumbled upon this idea of keeping my Volume plus and minus pressed together and boot. It worked.
Remember the combination would differ case to case, it depends upon what part is faulty.
+ & - Vol and Power till complete boot.

Desire Bricked?? HELP

Hi All
I have a second HTC Desire which does not boot. It goes into recovery and the volume keys do not work for me to navigate in recovery. I have tried rebooting and everything. Is there any way I can restore and get back into the phone? I think it has HBOOT 0.75.
Any ideas?
No, your Desire is not bricked.
Try a RUU: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
What version do I download? Also, what is the process for doing a RUU
Thanks in advance
I tried loading the below and still no luck:
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4. 05.00.11_release_122704.exe
Any ideas anyone?
Did the RUU apply correctly? Did you receive any error messages?
Or do you mean you still can't navigate in recovery?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
RUU applied correctly, no errors. When I switch phone on, the phone boots into recovery and I cant navigate from there with volume buttons. Is it worth trying the latest RUU and would this effect my ability to root my phone later?
Anyone????
Is your down key stuck in?
The Desire should not boot straight into recovery, it goes to HBOOT first where you have to select recovery.
Remove the battery, put it back then tell us exactly what you press, and what the phone does in response.
I switched the phone off, took out battery and then put battery back in. Powered phone. The phone boots to a white screen whiich lists HBOOT number 0.75 and lists FASTBOOT, BOOTLOADER, REBOOT, REBOOT BOOTLOADER & POWER DOWN. I cant navigate with he volume buttons so I cant progress at all.
I did the latest RUU last week and now I'm back on bootloader 0.80 and had no problem rooting it.
So this should not be the point
But I don't know if it can solve your problem.

Did you try with optical joystick? If it doesn't work, remove the back cover of your phone, and try to look at the volume controls if nothing blocks the contactors, or if you have a full body protector like Zagg's invisible shield, look if it doesn't stick the volume controlers, thus preventing them to make contact.
Volume buttons dont stick and I cant navigate with the optical track pad either. I think it may be a software rather than a hardware issue. Not sure what though?
Any other suggestions?

[Q] Help please! 3x vibrate and amber flashing light after removing battery! (brick?)

Hey guys, I'm normally silent in these forums 'cause I've never had a brick, just by reading correctly. This problem I'm having isn't a flashing brick! What happened is the following:
I know that the DHD in combi with my BT car radio is somewhat difficult (because of bad HTC coding). It seems that when I have my facebook friends in my contacts that the DHD starts slowing down and eventually hang when connected to the radio, because my radio tries to get every contact including it's info. Normally I do not sync my FB contacts with my DHD however I must have mistakingly done this.
Today I connected to my car radio and after getting out of the car my DHD showed that it was still connected (a sign that my DHD had the hang problem again). I turned of BT (took a hell of a time) and contiued on. When I came back I tried connecting the DHD again, however when I pushed the BT checkmark in settings it showed BT on, but no BT connection came up. So I went into BT settings only to find that BT wasn't turned on, then in the BT settings I checked turn BT on.
At that moment my DHD hang instantly, no inputs were registered at all. I waited a few minutes but nothing changed (I could still see the screen frozen at turning on BT). So I took out the battery and reinserted it, but when a pushed the power, the phone vibrated thrice and then did not boot, but only showed a flashing amber led.
I have rooted, S-offed and did the whole shebang to flash my DHD once. This was a long time ago and I haven't had any problems, all was OK. So at first I tried to search the forums, what might have happened. No post seems to be the same as my problem, because everyone is having these problems after an incorrect flash (my flash was correct, cause I've been using the ROM for more than 4 months!). Still I tried the solutions given in these posts (enter fastboot and flash again).
But it seems my DHD won't go into fastboot. When I hold VOLdown&power my DHD vibrates 5 times and shows a steady green led. So I thought maybe flashing a new ROM resolves the problem. If I cycle the battery and then connect is to my computer, my DHD goes into Clockwork recovery. From there I flased a new ROM to my DHD (update.zip method), but to no avail. I've factoryresetted, cleared al data, wiped battery stats, all to no avail...
As of this moment I'm at the end of my knowledge, I've done everything I know could have helped, but nothing did. Therefore I'm asking you, the Oracle of XDA (users), please does anyone have any clue what happened to my DHD and if so, how do I resolve the problem!
Thanks in advance for every little motivation/obligation you show be giving me your insights!
Info:
ROM: Android Revolution HD 2.0.9
CWM Recovery: 2.5.1.3
I've allready wiped battery stats as per this topic!
Additional thoughts: Might a hardware fault be the reason? Because it happened after some problems with BT, and also because I'm still able to correctly flash new ROMS with CWM though the problem remains?
Allright, so nobody know an answer I'm guessing... I've started the replacement process with my insurance company. However I'd still would like it if someone would know what the heck I did wrong...
Have you tried flashing a new radio, as that is what controls the hardware?
All a new ROM will do is update the RIL, not the radio.

It does more than likely seem like a hardware fault so it cant really be solved with software changes. Although I still would have tried to flash an RUU which updates basically everything on the phone to bare stock.
Use an RUU via your pc (v2.36 or lower so you can root it again) to restore to an out of the box state.
Allright guys, thanks for your ideas! I'm however experiencing problems trying your idea's. fFashing a radio or flashing a stock rom are not possible, because I need a connection with my computer. This connection is not possible, if I start the phone normally (or with vol down) I get the amber flashing light or the green steady light. Both do not connect to my pc, I get some device "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSN" for which windows can't find any drivers. When I let the DHD go into QWM recovery, the RUU won't find the DHD.
So I've tried extracting the RUU rom en putting this on the SDCARD of the DHD, but when I try to install it via CWM Recovery it says that it's an invalid file...
I actually bricked mine on purpose, and the thing that happened when it got bricked was that no lights and no life at all we're visible on the phone...
Atleast you get shakes and lights, thats a good sign!
Sadly i don't know what has to be done to restore it, but maybe Jkoljo does, PM him about your problem, if you get an assistance and some solving, write back here for your solution for others to use in the future!
They hang out in the Android Revolution HD IRC Channel, thats where i would go tbh.. Live support ftw!
Edit: While reading your above statement, it seems your drivers may be faulty in windows, redownload HTC Sync from htc.com, install, reboot, and try again.
The "Qualcomm CDMA ..." notification on the PC is a sign for the Qualcomm service mode. Also the 3 vibrates and the orange light is an indicator for that. You can enter this mode by pressing vol+ and power your device.
Stupid question, but is it possible that your vol+ button is stuck or something like that?
And you said you're able to enter CWM? how? I'm asking because you said you can't enter the bootloader.
I'll do some research when i get home today.
Meanwhile Try if ADB/Fastboot sees your phone
Edit: just checked my theory of the broken vol+ button: i held down my vol + button, took my battery out, reinserted it and powered up my phone. Result: 3 vibrates and a flashing orange light.
Then i did the same, but held down vol - ( vol+ still pressed). Result: your second phenomenon: a few vibrates and the green light stays on.
So I think this proves my theory because this is exactly what you described
I suggest you to play a bit with the vol+ button. Maybe the button will work again then

Well, I'm gonna fire up IRC then and try get some help. It's indeed not bricked as far as I'm guessing cause I do indeed have lights and I'm able to boot into CWM!

Right I'm guessing this is my problem! Just two days prior to resetting I started having problems with my VOL+ button (wouldn't work, only VOL- worked). So I'm guessing my hardware VOL+ button is broken and stuck to pressed...?
To answer your question about CWM: When I take out the battery so the phone is powered down, then reinsert the battery, connect the phone to the adapter or my computer (without pressing the power button), the phone boots into CWM after about 1 minute!
So after consolidating all the answers I'm guessing this is my problem: Hardware VOL+ is constantly pressed, therefore the phone boots consequently into Qualcomm service mode. Everything seems to be OK (flashing able to CWM), though just this little VOL+ problem puts my phone into an unusable brick...
The problem is that I'm not able to repair this myself (when I would try this, I'm guessing I'll break the seals therefore my insurance won't pay)... Anyone an idea how to circumvent the VOL+ button problem, without opening up my phone?

Do you have needles at home? The ones you use when you repair cloth.. Try using one very carefully behind the volume +, you could also take a bit of A4 Paper, cut out some of it and make it fit between the gap of the Volume button, and try getting dirt out of there.
Allright, I've tried cleaning the VOL+ key but it still won't work. As a matter of fact I can feel a little "click" when pressing the VOL+ key, so I'm guessing the mechanical part of the key is working correctly. However when in CWM I can only use the VOL- key to switch thru the options, VOL+ is not registered by the phone. Therefore my assumption is that the there's a problem on the PCB with the VOL+ key, ergo a hardware fault... Insurance has been called and I'm up for a switch, now let's hope the insurance doesn't figure out I've rooted and installed another ROM than stock!
At least I wan't to thank all of you who've tried to help me! My ego has been saved, knowing it's indeed a hardware fault .
Cant you use adb within cwm to adb reboot bootloader?

I've got the exact same problem! I don't have insurance on it though. And, im a day late for warranty.
What am i supposed to do? Any suggestions? Will htc deny my request to fix it coz it had a custom firmware?
Any help of any sort is appreciated.
I had exactly the same problem, and I'm sorry to say that I had to have it repaired. My button would also "click", but not register.
Maybe if you are buy a new power button from eBay?
Realising this is an old thread, but still:
I was just experiencing the same problem after I did a reboot to let one of my friends borrow my DHD to turn off the PIN code check on his SIM.
It started with the blinking lights (black screen), then I pulled the battery and found that my DHD was only accessible through ADB in recovery mode.
Did a couple of "ADB reboot" without any success, then tried using "ADB reboot recovery", which seemed to work (still black screen though), and then I did a "ADB reboot".
Back to normal!
hi , i had this issue too , its bcz of the moisture ur cell phone has absorb and as HTC desire HD very sensitive with its volume rocker area , the first thing that will be affected with moisture is ur volumer rocker circuit , try making it dry with a hair dryer blower or place ur phone in a rice sack for a day .
i am sure it will work .

Hardware or software fault?

Hi there, I am on holiday right now and having some trouble with my DHD. I have limited internet and can't find an awnser. Last night my phone rebooted while using the cam in whatsapp. It now boots in hboot and its stuck there. It doesn't respond to pressing any buttons. I managed to boot the device with Adb by usb using the Adb -d reboot command while connected to my laptop. It boots in save mode and only my volume down key doesn't respond.
Did some additional tests.
Booted in (clockwork) recovery (using Adb) and did the key test and it also didn't respond to the volume down key. (The vol down key feels like there is nothing wrong with it)
Booting with vol up key pressed the phone vibtates four times and then the green light lites. Screen stays off. Don't know if this is normal behavior.
Booting with vol down also gives unresponsive hboot screen.
Although it looks like there is something wrong with the DHDs internals I just wonder if there is a small change its software related and can be fixed. (At home I would just try, but that's to risky now because I need my phone and in save mode I can use al the basic stuf) Maybe some of you guys have similar experiences.
Thanks.

I think it's hardware, you can flash build 1.32. That should sort any software issue, then start over again.

Use adb to boot into recovery. Full wipe:flash new rom from zip.
not a backup.
This is a strange problem but if you cant boot without using adb you need to flash an ruu to re-write the boot img.

I remember reading such issue back in this forum and it turns out to be a stuck volume down contact. What the person did was that he kept pressing volume down until it started working again and these weird issues were gone (I think he also blow up some air where the rocker is iirc)
Try this and hope it helps.
Yes it seems like a stuck volume button. The volume button on this phone is the flimsiest thing I've ever set eyes on. Try what Naailalzuhir said above, that should fix it.
Been pressing all night. No luck yet

Can anyone test holding the volume down button (all the time) while turning on the device. Can you browse through the hboot menu with vol up? (still holding the vol down button)
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I've had this problem with the volume up button not working and sticking,
No Hboot or clockwork.
Answer was to remove the plastic cover which sits above the volume controls.
This will void your warranty but should work.
You will have to remove the black ribbon which goes to the volume control buttons.
That will solve the boot issue.
You will find that you can't use clockwork from boot anymore.
You will have install a program called 4EXT Recovery.
Put that in your SD card and use Rom Manager to install.
Works the same as clockwork mod but you use the power button and the home and return keys.
Good luck

[Q] Stuck in a boot loop with HTC diagnostic area (dead volume down rocker)

Hey guys
I'm running MrGarak's fantastic MIUI rom however I've found that the kernel is booting my phone into that white HTC diagnostic screen by default. Unfortunately my volume down button is dead and so I can't navigate the menu; the only way I can boot my phone at the moment is to boot it connected via USB as that makes it boot to Recovery and I can reboot from there.
Any ideas? I think this and another rom I tried both used LordMUE's kernel, could that be the reason the boot preferences don't default to just booting the OS?
Any help and/or pointers would be greatly appreciated
So you can access bootloader and recovery!
So just flash another kernel. What's your problem?
Put a zip on your SD (with a SD reader or ADB pull), then go in recovery, navigate with the 4 keys under the screen (or vol+ and power)... and flash.
What is strange for me is that it seems to happen sudenly... so how do ou know it's the kernel. Anyway...
I have clockwork recovery, and can navigate it using the soft keys (home menu etc). You should also he able to use the vol up key to get to the bottom of the list, (depending on the recovery you're using I suppose)

Unfortunately it boots into the white HTC area (dunno what it's called). The one where you can see if your phone is S-OFF or not.
Also, I'm not sure what is to blame... but I've only just recently noticed that my phone cold boots this way so I assumed it was a recent rom that I applied. Will test this theory later.
Sounds to me like your volume down button is stuck in.
Definitely not a ROM issue, as it has nothing to do with the bootloader.

Hey, i had this issue like a month ago. You can check my previous threads. It's hardware I'm 100% sure. Basically if you're in warranty you need to flash the stock rom with S-On so you can get a new phone. You can get it to boot but it's really a pain. You have to play with the volume up when first turning on your phone. It took me about an hour. Then when it boots you'll be in a "Safe Mode" (no clue whats limited all seemed fine to me). Then do your backup if you wish.
Also note: Flashing the S-On rom is a PAIN, took me about 2-3 hours of rebooting, holding vol up, tapping vol up, to get it to boot right, but with patients you'll get it to go.
Good luck to ya.

Ah, I'm definitely beyond warranty. The thought of vol+down being stuck down makes a lot of sense!
I'll just take it to one of the dodgy Asian repair shops, if it's a hardware issue I'm sure they'll know what to do.
Cheers for your help everyone!

[Q] My One X Shuts Down Randomly and Instantly

Hi, all. It seems that my phone has a problem: it randomly shuts down (instantly) during use?
There are no shut-down sounds or screens or messages or anything - the shut down is instant, as if the battery was removed (although, obviously, this is impossible with the One X) and it typically does turn on again if you press the power button - performing a proper boot.
What could cause this? Must I send it in for repairs?
Everything is stock, Android 4.0.4 with Sense 4.1. No root. No hacks or anything. (Some HTC Bundled Apps disabled.)
.
try a factory reset from the boot loader, if the problem is still there, send it to HTC
i say try and reinstall the rom. Possibly use the RUU! its your best bet
Cool. Ok. Will try factory reset from bootloader first. How do I get into the boot-loader? I tried power-on while holding volume-down but that did not work.
Incidentally, can you install RUU without root?

Yeah, an RUU has to be flashed on a locked device.
Thanks, Ben. That gives me "Safe Mode"... which doesn't look at all like the recoveries that I am used to. Can I just run fastboot commands while in Safe Mode or have I done something wrong?
I have tried performing a factory-data-reset in "Safe Mode" but that has not worked - the phone shut-down on me while I was setting it up again, in the wizards. (This shutdown did have an HTC logo-screen, though, which is not usual. The battery bar showed about 60% full.)
I just tried v down and power and it works for me. No idea why it doesn't work for you.

I never had problems with the method you described until recently. It should work but it's an arse and doesn't sometimes..
Best to either restart from power menu then hold volume down the second its shutdown and goes to the black screen (just before first htc splash screen)
Or, shutdown, then turn on whilst holding volume down
