3G USIM in 2.5G pda

I am tempted to go for the orange spv m2000 -although it costs more than the MDAIII- if I can use it with my orange 3G usim where I've got lots of free data allowance. Alternatively, I would go for TMobile but I would have to take one of these expensive data bundles.
Has anyone tried to use the SPV M2000, or the xda2s or the MDA III with a 3G SIM card from the same operator? Does it work?
I've read 2.5G phones would not accept 3G usim cards, but I spent the past couple of weeks in Canada where I used my Orange 3G USIM card in an unlocked Vodafone-branded Nokia 6600... and it worked great!
Any help would be much appreciated.
There is no reason why a 3G sim can't work in any 2G phone. Of course you will only get GSM/GPRS and not 3G services. I've used one in various xda's and no problems at all.
Having said that I have heard reports that sims from the '3' network don't work in xda's. Dont know if thats true.
Great
That's great, many thanks.
Are you happy with your xda? Is that the O2 one? Are you allowed to browse outside O2 active? and how much are you charged for gprs browsing?
cheers

HTC UNI PROBLEMS WITH RECEPTION IN INDIA

hi all,
i've had the uni for a couple of months now & i use Hutch service..
i've had quite a few complaints from people who call me that the voice breas up when i talk to them..
the signal shows full reception as i mostly use my phone in office...
i used to use the mini at the same place & never had a problem with reception...
i'm using the latest o2 rom on the exec...
i have been told that quite a few uni users in india have the same problem..
a frien is using the i-mate rom & he too has the same problem....
any help??
Regards,
frz
anybody???
I'm in thane.... using Airtel. Have had no issues with network reception with the Uni. Have u accidently set the phone band to PCS 1900?
If one switches to PCS 1900 then the handset will never search for Netwrok. There could b issue with the internal antenna.Search the forum, how to fix the antena for better reception or go to the nearest service center to fix the issue.
Me too, using JASJAR on Airtel more than a year...no such serious issues
I am also using Universal on Airtel Network without anyproblems.
Hi, check out my experience, I think you are suffering the same thing I did:

The best way is to get a complete GSM antenna like I did.
Best regards!

Htc desire connection trouble

I have a HTC desire which i bought off a friend, it was locked to 3G until i unlocked it from there company so that i can use my O2 pay monthly sim card.
First i knew that i will have problems setting up my MMS and Web Bolt Ons, in the end i managed to get them both working on my phone, now i have another serious issue,
I am not sure if everyone gets the same problem but i get Very Low reception when inside a building or office, when my Sony erricson w500 gets full reception , and my Webconnection is stuck on H and i have never got the 3G or all the other network gprs signals,
So can anyone help me in getting me them other Signals other then the H and rarely getting the E connection, and why i get low reception ?
Do i need a firm ware update or what ??
I have read aroudn the Net and some people say i might need to update my sim to a 3G web connection Sim , even thou mine is bought this year january?
and what is the differece if i left my mobile network on O2-uk other then the O2-uk(3G)
And my last question is what connection do i leave it on GSM.WCDMA AUTO which is what it is on now or WCDMA only ?

Signal drop / loss issues

My Xperia S seems to suffer from many signal drops through the day, not just a low signal but complete loss, then a short time later the signal comes back.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Mine does this.. but i do live in an area with a not so great signal.
Contacted provider?
Searched in google, forums etc ?
What phone do you got before the xps? Same provider?

Me, O2 on a SE Xperia Mini Pro.
I still have it actually, and never had network drop outs. But im now on Vodaphone so cant really compare the two to each other as they are not the same network.. or even on the same masts where i live.
There is 3 masts where i am, 1 is vodafone and t-mobile, 1 is o2 and orange and the last one is three.
Three signal here is so bad you cant connect indoors.
O2 is fantastic yet t-mobile is not that great and neither is orange.
Vodafone seems ok, almost as good as O2 so far.
But as said, I get a few dropouts now and then
This has been a persistent problem on the arc, don't tell me on xperia s.
That would be one reason why I would not upgrade if that is the case.

I had this problem in bad signal area, I solved locking on wdcma only net.
I have this very issue in my arc but not with SXS. The signal is fantastic.
[Out of topic]Between the arc's issue can be solved by flashing a different baseband which I did and still using with different SIM on the same service provider.

Yes, Yes and Yes! It doesnt seem to be a widespread problem from what I read so far.
Before this I had Nokia N900, Acer Liquid Metal, iPhone 4, and Samsung Galaxy S2 (currently sick waiting on main board).
All suffered from the hold the phone a certain way and the signal drops (though the iPhone the worst) but none dropped out completely just sitting on desk!
I upgraded mine to 73 thinking it might fix it, but its just the same.
I dont live in an area thats great for signal as its semi rural.
Best phone for signal was my N900

To be honest I am a bit disappointed in the Xperia S. I think as their first proper Sony phone for many years I would have expected them to think it through a bit more...the buttons at the bottom could be more responsive and I have found it a bit laggy

You live in a similar rural kind of area to me....I think maybe its the phone looking for a 3G signal and not getting a good enough one so switching back to 2G, but I would have expected it to retain a connection all the time.
Technology is supposed to have improved lol
I have this problem on my Xperia S on Vodafone (UK) and it seems to happen in areas where the phone is frequently switching between 2G and 3G. Oddly it's only started since I upgraded to ICS, never happened on GB.
any light on this problem ?
I am using 2G and it happens pretty often.
My phone was a gift and I dont think it has been bought from my country although its not branded. Prior to JB I had .55. Any advice ? It's pretty annoying as it affects both internet and calls, ussually lasts ~1 minute.
I live in an area with good signal and my last phone did not present with this issue
same issues for me as well, but the issues are more persistent in India !!
come on... dont want to change the phone
up
Try changing baseband, or wait 28. Weak for new JB update.

I was about to sell my Acro, because of the signal problem.. but the problem now gone after using custom rom CM9, smooth and stable for me..

radio upgrade?

hi guys, im in the u.k and owened this phone for over a year..
just wondering if there are any radio upgrades available for this phone as the reception is seriously poor, now im not sure if i was just unlucky in getting a bad handset, or if its to do with the frequencys used in the u.s & u.k. (i checked before i got the phone and the frequencys should be the same)
when im in the house i put my sim card in my old htc desire z & turn on wifi hotspot and use my glide using wifi.
so, i was just wondering if there were any tricks i can do to improve reception such as flashing a diffrent radio version?
thanks people..
james.
