Touch Pro 2 a Scratch Magnet or what

Has anyone noticed that the silver keys Send,End, Back on the front get scratched up really quickly. Everywhere else on the phone is protected and brand new but the phone has been sitting on my desk for a couple days. Is it a scratch magnet or what?

well what caused it to get scratch? maybe there were objects that were hitting against it in your pocket(if you do put it in your pocket)
or do you flip the phone over for speakerphone and tend to drag it on the desk around?
i certainly have no scratches on mine and i did drag it a little but none

I don't have any scratches whatsoever on my phone. I had this baby from December and the only protection I have my phone is the screen protector. I don't what you have been rubbing against your phone but it must be something rough, as posted above.

I've had my TP2 for months and no scratches here.

Well that's what you have the screen protector for! That said.... depending on the quality of your protector it will show more wear quicker. For a time I ran on old tilt without a protector and NO scratches showed up on it at all. Then I put the protector on and bam... after a month.. scratched to hell. Same tile the Tilt 2!

Annnd yeah I have had my phone since December and not a scratch on the thing. I keep my phone in a holster on my belt and when I'm in my truck it goes into the car holder. I often put my phone face down on tables and what not and no scratches on the front for me.

It's all based on how careful you are with something that has value. Perhaps it's just you and not the phone.

Actually what I was asking everyone was whether or not they noticed that the chrome keys are pretty prone to light scratches, hardly noticeable in certain angles.There was an issue like this with the touch pro where they were exchanging phones for free at repair centers.I bought the phone a week ago and have barely used it and noticed that the chrome keys were lightly scuffed its as they put so much care into everything and stick some crappy chrome on it to make it stand out. Ive had HTC phones the past 4 years and hate the chrome keys and bezels. My screen is always protected sorry if I confused some.. I treat my phone with alot of care so the user and not the phone comment was unnecessary. I was just asking other peoples opinions. I had the same problem with the Tilts chrome keys where the paint just wore away with regular use.

Ive just noticed that different carriers use different materials and finishes on phones to make it more branded. Also I was talking about a sprint TP2 and I went into the reverse logistics and found out it was a refurb so it wasn't as new as I thought.

What carrier are you with? I have never seen chrome keys on any touch pro 2 variations.

[Q] Do you have problems with the hinge?

I am planning to buy either MT4G or G2, I like the feel of the G2 more but since this is my last month in the US and it will be hard to replace the phone , I am worried about future physical problems. For those who had the G2 for more than a month , does the hinge really cause you any problems with normal usage? like texting , holding the phone , put it in your pocket? browsing the web? Does the screen close with normal usage? Did you notice any problems with building quality ?

nope, i think im one of the only ones that dont.

In my experience the hinge is really only a pain in the ass when you're actually inspecting it and testing it's quality, I mean I don't have a problem with it at all from day to day use. Other than the hinge it's a great phone to have and it would be a shame to let a little imperfection ruin it.

the hinge isnt a problem, its only a problem if YOU make it a problem (yes some do have faulty hinges) but in reality, this phone follows Murphys law and the laws of gravity. or w/e....my phone seems fine.
p.s. AS long as you use the phone in the intended way it was supposed to be used. then you shouldnt have a probem what so ever.

no. the hinge on mine work fine. I barely even open it thanks to swype.

hinge is so problem. if it's not this loose, this phone is ok. and what makes me frustrated is some can get not loose hinge but mine is this loose. it's hard to hold so the display doesnt fall.
holding the phone with keyboard closed is also like shaky.

Even with normal usage? like texting while walking or sitting?

Let me put it this way: I'm a 15 year old kid and I can't hold it with the keyboard open without holding onto the screen as well. So it'd be pretty much impossible for the screen to "fall" down on me.

The only down fall of the hinge is when you are in bed trying to txt or do something. But I found a way to cure that. I type with one thumb and the other thumb holds the screen up lol
Or u can just swype.
Other than that I love this phone..its soo powerful and impresive. Good job HTC.

Of you use swype, your qwerty use will be minimal

never had a problem with the hinge ever.

I have issues with my hinge from time to time, If im holding my phone at a certain angle while using the hardware keyboard the screen somemtimes falls and it is a bit shaky, and for those who say just use swype what's the point of owning the G2 if you don't use the hardware keyboard at all???

The Hinge's poor design doesn't detract much from the overall greatness of this phone. But after holding DOZENS have G2's I'm pretty sure that's how they all are... nobody has a G2 hinge as tight as the G1 hinge, and it' impossible just based on the design.
It is a little loose even when closed if you press in the right spots.... it's not awful but some find it more annoying than others. My girl has a Droid 2 Global, and her sliding mechanism is as tight as a 14 year old Amish girl.... but her phone can't compete with mine on any other level.

To be honest, the hinge will never be a problem thanks to swype.
Other than the few times i pull good old qwerty out to type my retardedly long password that contains symbols and letters and numbers, I always use Swype for everyday messages. It's so easy to use and so fast.
And if you do want to use the qwerty keyboard, here's a hint:
Put the inside bottom half of both your index fingers on the part of the phone where the top and the bottom are still connected together after the screen has slid up, and the top part of ur indexes hooked around the phone resting on the back panel. The pressure from the bottom part of your index fingers will keep the screen up.
This is the natural way I held the phone while typing and am surprised at people who complain about the screen sliding down while typing, cuz they would have to hold it pretty retardedly to get the screen to slide down.

I myself don't have a problem with the hinge. Some people might if they use a holster, so just be careful if you holster it. Also my wifes phone actually pops open in her purse which drains the battery sooner. I also had that happen while in my hoody pocket.
I have a simple, if not botched, solution for it though. When you get the phone, the cord and headset have a nice small black rubber band on them. Its the perfect fit for this phone. I just stretch it around bottom over the track pad. Its easy to pull off and holds the phone snugly closed.

my hinge is loose but it is no problem for me even when i type upside down in bed because the base of my index fingers support the screen so i have no problem whatsoever with the phone falling down on me

its been very tight for me. I dont think there is anything to worry about. i dont see anything going wrong with it unless you abuse it severely over time.

G2 Hinge months later.

soooo, its been about 5 months since the G2 came out, closely followed the be Desire Z
I have had my Z for 2 months now and the hinge is grand flops a bit but it doesn't bother me.
Im just wondering how your phone is now since you have gotten, it has it become unusable, or has you first expectations about the hinge just been over exaggerated like i think it has been

Mine has been fine. I feel that it has been over exaggerated a bit.

I was always confused by the hinge issue. I've never had a real problem with it, but I guess I can see where people come from. I'll have some problems if I'm laying in bed and the phone is above my face, then yeah, gravity brings it down. But I prefer to have a looser hinge than the one with the G1 where it snaps into place. The top shell is broken because of that snap.

yeah when i hold the phone upside down texting it doesn't flop anyway cus when i grip it my hand kinda stop it from falling naturally anyway so thts no problem for me

My hinge seems about the same from when I first purchased my G2. It is loose, no doubt about that however it really has not affected the way I use the phone.
I think T-Mobile and HTC could have handled customer complaints in a better way but other then that its not a big deal for me.

It turned out rather anticlimactic. Had the phone for months and the hinge is fine. Opens easily and generally stays closed until I want it open.
The hinges hold closed more tightly when I remove my case. The case holds on by gripping inside the seam and keeps it partly open. Without the case, I have to remember to lift to open.

[Q] Screen on the Arc S

So I bought my first ever android device the other day, an Xperia Arc S. Love it to bits, however I really am paranoid.
I haven't bought a case yet, so I dont take the phone outside (use my old phone) and I haven't got a screen protector yet either.
I was looking up screen protectors for the Arc S online and I came across a post that said apparently the phone comes pre-installed with a screen protector. Is that true? I know I have a spare set of screen protectors that came with the box, along with the HDMI cable, USB cable, Mains adapter and Headphones. However, no leather case as I've seen people mention!
I'm in the UK so it's a UK phone, and bought it Sim free and it's the white one.
If it does have a screen protector on, is the protection enough? Should I put on another screen protector, just to be safe?

yeah they come with screen protectors on. look at the corners/edges in the light and you can make it out. i've found the screen protector is enough protection, although if you are prone to dropping your phone often, you may want to consider purchasing a case/pouch.
also before you put another screen protector on, remember that screen protectors tend to dim the display as it creates another layer for the light to go through. also this extra layer means you may have to press a bit harder on the screen.

I even removed the factory applied screen protector as it was scratched up a bit and so far no scratches on the screen.

Since you guys are owners of the Arc S, how do you feel about the bottom 3 buttons? Do they feel a bit loose and flimsy to you?

Got the Arc without S and the buttons don't feel lose.

Hmm that is a bit worrying. What I mean is that the other 2 buttons (back button and settings button) seem to only have one connection point (in the middle of either buttons) and because the buttons are long, as they move towards the Home button, it feels really loose, and I can press that part of it quite inwards without the phone responding?

My home button feels quite loose, other 2 buttons feels better.

Also I have a question, don't need to make a new thread for it I reckon:
The top of my screen (statusbar) burns in a bit, probably because of water (leaving it unprotected in a damp bathroom, I'm a dumbass). But there's another issue. I've got a lot of dead pixels in the top half of my screen, maybe ten of them, they're easy to spot on a black background. Could that be caused by suspected water damage too?
I've contacted support, and they said their logistics partner would call me to let them get my phone, but after two missed calls they haven't called in weeks (suckers).
The sticker on my battery hasn't coloured btw, and no other issues on the phone too.

Crease condition after months of use

Hi All,
I need some info from people who have been using the fold for quite some time now.
I just got the fold 2 and that is my first folding phone.
I got to be honest: I've been using it unfolded and I've been keeping it unfolded most of the time because im afraid that keeping it close would increase the crease.
So, you that you have used this type of folding phones for many months, could you give me some suggestions? Do you keep it unfolded when not in use/charging or you just keep it folded when not using it?
For the latter: no issues with the crease.. have you notice any increase of the crease?

I've had the Galaxy fold for 4 months now and I do fold/unfold quite a lot every day and I can tell you that the crease has remained identical. Don't read too much into the YouTube reviewer hype, the screen is plastic and it won't crease like folded leather does with stretch mark. What I did notice tho is that you'll get lots of microscratches, but unless you're pointing your screen towards a light bulb, you can't see them as they're very superficial. That's with the first gen fold tho, so the second one might be better in that regard. And I treat the phone like a baby with utmost care.

I have the og Fold now since january and sleep every night with it open. Actually, I keep it open at all times at the house and only close it when I'm "on the road." I'm sure thats overkill. No issues since day one and dont really know why I'm in that habit of keeping it open at the house. lol.
As far as the tiny scratches, thats from wiping down too hard with a dirty micro fiber. Ive seen this before on other device's screens, and in a great example, Oakley sunglasses. Those cheap a*s plastic lenses get scratched just looking thru them.
The KEY would be to only use a completely clean and dry microfiber cloth and apply literally hardly any pressure making time to constantly shake the rag and use different parts of it as you "brush" the screen. RIDICULOUS, I know, but the ONLY way to keep those tiny scratches at bay.
And hes right, They can only be noticed when the screen is OFF and at a crazy angle with reading glasses on...lol.. Really a non-issue, if you ask me.

Iv had fold first gen since 4th Feb and it still ok no scratches nothing at all

I have had the Fold for nearly a year. I keep it closed most of the time but open it several times a day, the crease is actually the same as it was on day 1 as far as I can see. Neither screen has got any blemishes/ scratches, I am generally pretty careful about it to the point that if I am working in a dirty/ dusty environment I use my Pixel instead. At all other times, I use the Fold.

Been using my Fold for almost 1 year (I have the 5G variant) and looks the same as first day. The hinge mechanism maybe a bit less firm than when I bought it but fully functional and very reliable. The only thing I have never manged to find is a GOOD screen protector. I always use one not to scratch the screens' delicate surface and I went through many and they all suck.. scratch easily, start peeling and distort the image and produce streaks at pixel level.. I've tried like, 10. Other than that, best phone I've ever owned and will not upgrade to the Fold 2 because its too incremental. Will wait for the Fold 3 and see if there are truly major changes, namely the device being thinner and the screen really more resistant.
Still all stock under Android 10 and want to root it but not sure whats the best way to do it or if I can even get TWRP on my model. Worrying about screwing it up, nut really would love to root it.
All in all, awesome phone!

I had to take it off had it for a while I suggest getting the 2 pack as was bit difficult to get on only took it off as had a black spot a smoke nearly burnt it lol screen was fine under neath

I've had the Fold since Oct 27, 2019. I constantly close and open it all day. I was also experiencing tiny scratches on the inside screen for no reason and decided to start using a screen protector for about ten months. But the crease did not increase one bit.
About two weeks ago I using dex to watch a movie one morning and the hdmi cable hit my inner screen and created dead pixels. I took it to a samsung repair center and they replaced it for free, and the hinge, along with a factor installed screen protector that wasn't originally there. It's like having a new phone! But I would definitely recommend closing it once you set the phone down.

Do you also put plastic covers on your couches and leave the paper floor mats when you get your car washed? Just use the damn device you paid money for.
