[Q] Root Explorer App + Widget - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

I'm a huge fan of the Root Explorer app, and noticed the other day that there was a widget. Could anybody please tell me what it does and how to configure it?

A Desire is ordered - Help with programs etc

I just ordered a Desire and I'm curious about what programs you HAVE to have on Android just like you have to have some programs for WM in the beginning. Also I wanna know if you guys mostly use just the Sense UI or another launcher such as LauncherPro with alot of widgets (it looks cool).
I'm using Modaco's r18 (Froyo), and love it.
Must-have programs.. hmm..
Barcode scanner
Gesture search
Voice search
ROM manager (if you decide to root)
Estrongs task manager & Estrongs file explorer
Silent Boot
DemoPlayer
Layar
Ringdroid
Shazam
MyBackup
Dropbox
SwitchPro widget
Beautiful Widgets (if you root and use something other than Sense).

you don't need silent boot if you are using the MCR, just tick the remove boot sound option
my favourites are:
swiftp
websharing
estrongs file explorer
astro file manager
quick uninstaller
HTC MAIL
swype
extended controls
titanium backup (root)

[Q] Launch apps that are not in the app drawer

Some apps, like filemanager.apk or videoplayer.apk, are not shown in the app drawer ,is there a way to launch them?
Which launcher are you using?
If they show up under application manager, sometimes you can link them to a shortcut using "Bettercut".
I don't use a launcher and I can't link them with bettercut
Well this is more of a work-around but how about installing an alternative file manager like Adao File Manager? That one should definitely show up in the app drawer
Wouldn't know of a video player, though.
That was my point, NOT to install more apps when there are already installed
Android being Linux can I start an app from terminal? What is the command?

Shortcut to Saved File/Bookmark

Is there a way to save a shortcut on one of the home panels to:
1) open a file such as a saved PDF?
2) open a saved bookmark on internet browser?
Or are we only able to save shortcuts to apps and Widgets?

The short answer is yes you can

I responded to this once with great detail on how to do it, but when I went to post, the site was down and all was lost. Now you get the short version.
With ADW Launcher you can add shortcuts. Get free or paid version of ADW and have a file manager. I use Astro File Manager. When you add a shortcut, choose ASTRO and it will open the app. Then simply choose your file.
This feature and not being able to have my 5x5 grid is why I don't use Touch Wiz.
I think you can do this by downloading ES File explorer, with any launcher, rom, etc. Just navigate to the file with ES file explorer, then long hold it, and then choose create shortcut. I know that works for videos, PDF's, and other document like things, but probably not for webpage shortcuts. For that, you should be able to just add those using the stock launcher, or any other launcher by long holding the screen, and selecting add shortcut, then from there choosing the bookmark.
Tried this with ES and it works! I might be one step closer to using TouchWiz.
Why do I need a signature when I use the XDA app?
Got them all to work. Thanks for the tips guys. Each one was a success.

[Q] organising apps in the app drawer

Guys,
Got the Note 2, an amazing machine...
Got one question though: It seems like you can make folders in the app drawer, so I did. But now I am faced with not being able to move any apps to that folder, not can I delete the folder. Can anyone tell me how to do that?
Please not I am talking about the app drawer, not about the home screens.
did u press menu - edit before organising your folder?

Yeah I had the same problem and had to play around to find the solution. In the app drawer, hit menu>edit. Then in edit mode you can move apps to folders/delete folders/uninstall apps etc.

[Q] greenify question

For everyone who uses greenify what do u typically put in hibernation to save battery whether its system apps or others?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I put almost everything lol
Any app that doesn't need to be opened...
I.e. messaging, alarms, e-mail and browsers (for downloading screen off) won't get hibernate, but everything else is added to the hibernate list
Sent from my SGH-I747
Any app that I do not need notification's for. I also do not hybernate file app's, such as ES File Explorer, or titanium backup. Last thing you want is for those to be killed during a operation.
Google Voice
Groove IP
Es File Explorer
Titanium Backup
Kik Messenger
FolderMount
Beatiful Widgets
My launcher (I use Smart Launcher)
my keyboard (swiftkey for me)
Sygic (Gps App)
3G watchdog
Gmail
Just to give you a idea of what I do not Greenify.
