Shortcut to Saved File/Bookmark - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Is there a way to save a shortcut on one of the home panels to:
1) open a file such as a saved PDF?
2) open a saved bookmark on internet browser?
Or are we only able to save shortcuts to apps and Widgets?

I responded to this once with great detail on how to do it, but when I went to post, the site was down and all was lost. Now you get the short version.
With ADW Launcher you can add shortcuts. Get free or paid version of ADW and have a file manager. I use Astro File Manager. When you add a shortcut, choose ASTRO and it will open the app. Then simply choose your file.
This feature and not being able to have my 5x5 grid is why I don't use Touch Wiz.

I think you can do this by downloading ES File explorer, with any launcher, rom, etc. Just navigate to the file with ES file explorer, then long hold it, and then choose create shortcut. I know that works for videos, PDF's, and other document like things, but probably not for webpage shortcuts. For that, you should be able to just add those using the stock launcher, or any other launcher by long holding the screen, and selecting add shortcut, then from there choosing the bookmark.

Tried this with ES and it works! I might be one step closer to using TouchWiz.
Why do I need a signature when I use the XDA app?

Got them all to work. Thanks for the tips guys. Each one was a success.

[Q] Changing Icons, ran into some trouble.

Alright so I ran into some trouble while changing my Icons. When I change the phone.apk Icon it works. But when I change the contacts app icon it changes the phone apps icon to the contacts icon. I dont know why. Im relatively new at this sooo any help would be much appreciated. thanks!
Are you editing directly (i.e. using APK Edit) or you using something like BetterCut/LauncherPro/ADW? I've never tried editing the icons directly, but I have changed my icons on my homescreens using these apps and have never have any issue. If you want a different launcher, ADW/LP will make changing the icon simple, BetterCut can be used with Sense to achieve a similar effect
Ah I was editing directly.

Yea, I very much suggest using launcherpro, it's as easy as holding down your finger on the homescreen, selecting application and then choosing an app. When it opens the text editor, just click on the actual icon to change it. I keep a special folder called "My Icons" on my sd so it's always in my gallery for use.

Hey I had no clue launcher pro could do that, I've been using folder organizer for all that stuff. Now I have one less program installed taking up resources, thanks.

FYI LauncherPro/ADW cannot change the icons for folders, just for apps, you're still going to need Folder Organizer for changing folder icons
EDIT: At least the free versions can't

No shortcuts in go launcher?

Hmmm. I seem to be unable to add shortcuts in Go Launcher on one of my Kindle Fires.
Installed everything (root, framework, google apps and go launcher) via Kindle Fire Utility 0.91 multiple times - no dice.
I also noticed that the Kindle Fire app does not start. Tap on it ... nothing.
Looking for a solution also, same with ADW. Just installed Go hopping short cuts would work as I would like to put a few bookmarks on my home screen.
Same here: want to put some bookmarks on the home screen

I have Folders Organizer on my KF. I can add shortcuts by using Widgets Folder Organizer Items and then use one of it's shortcuts (you can create your own). Works fine.
I am using a Stock Rooted ROM with ADW.
Application Folder will allow you to make a bookmarks shortcut.
+1 for Folders Organizer. I can't imagine my KF without it.
I tried both Application Folder and Folder organizer, but didn't get it to work the way I wanted. I then found VCut Shortcut, which works great for me.
To create a shortcut, you have to make a bookmark in the Amazon browser (Opera didn't work for me), start VCut, go to Bookmark, long-press the desired bookmark, choose Create shortcut to Home.
Another +1 for Folders Organizer. Very helpful app.

Nova Launcher Icon Problems.

Trying help my friend set up his One X with Nova Launcher. However, when we go to change icons, they don't have transparent backgrounds. Although they are saved as transparent .gif and .png formats.
Works fine on my GS3. Wondering if there is a trick with the One X ??
dont choose a picture from gallery, choose a file from your sd card. u have to browse with a file explore (ES for example) to the file
Thanks, I'll give that a shot.

Gallery

Whenever I open the gallery, all of the artwork from my mp3s is mixed in with the my pictures. This makes it next to impossible to find something quickly. Is there an easy way to organize them out or hide them without clicking each individual picture? This seems very dumb. My iphone, nor any other phone I've ever used does this. Thoughts?
In your music folder, put an empty text file with the filename 'nomedia' (without the quotation marks and file extention). Then in settings > apps > gallery , select clear data.

Sorry for being dense, but the hierarchical structure you listed doesn't work.
Did you mean setting>general(tab)>apps?....if so "gallery" isn't listed there. If I go into gallery and try to move the photos, it just randomly moves them around.....no labels or anything. I don't understand. Do I need to go into my windows explorer on my pc to adjust the folders?....that seems dumb that you can't easily do it from the phone.

It normally has to be done on the computer I believe but it might not let the android media scanner find your music or use the pictures for album artwork. I honestly I just use QuickPic and it has the options to hide(.no media) and exclude folders and I just select exclude folders from my main music folder so it doesn't include them.

Hi!
Yes i meant setting>general(tab)>apps. Under apps if you scroll horizontally u will find gallery under 'ALL' tab.
In order to move files, folders or any other operation to a file or folder, you need to use a file manager app. There are different file managers available for android. Personally i use ES file manager. A pretty good app called just File Manager is already there in G Pro. You can use it to manage your folders.
As jesi.james above pointed out putting the .nomedia (sorry i missed the '.' before nomedia in my previous post) file in your music folder will hide the album arts from the gallery but it will hide the music files from the music player as well. I am sorry i wasnt aware of that. i do not store my music on my phone. I listen to it from play music.
To solve your problem, i found that there is an option in the gallery menu to hide/show albums. You can choose the albumd you do not want to see in your gallery. If you have a large music collection, you will have to select the albums one by one. Frustrating.
Next option is to use Quickpic. This is a very good alternative to the default gallery and it gives you options to select folders you want show or hide in quickpic as mentioned by the guy above.

Adding shortcut to Home screen

I am using Google Now Launcher.
When I add a shortcut of an image into Home screen, using Solid Explorer, there is a small Solid Explorer icon in it.
And I don't like it.
Is this something new in Android 8.1.0?
Or is this caused by Solid Explorer? I don't know any other way nor any other app to create shortcut of a file / image into Home screen.
Try dragging the app from the app drawer.
