So the Desire just might get a GB update - Desire General

This is what HTC just posted on their FB page
To resolve Desire's memory issue and enable the upgrade to Gingerbread, we will cut select apps from the release.
Look for status updates starting next week. We apologize for any confusion.

I see many ppl wants a Gingerbread without sense, but as I've tried GB on my Hero, I don't see why ppl want it. The only features I miss from GB are the features provided by the CyanogenMod team. What I think HTC should've done was to release a ROM with Froyo and Sense 2.1

i agree
and move stuff like htc stocks to htc hub so you can download it - if you want.
in fact this would be a FAR better way to go for all roms - I hate all the junk that is added to roms for no good reason. I thought Android was all about choice but then you can't uninstall stuff like quickoffice after they have dumped it on you without root

That sounds a very dtraight-forward way! They won't have to think much in this case. Hope people will accept this in OTA and not blame HTC for removing Market apps.

Spot on Eddy. Once we get HTC on board then we need to concentrate on all the carrier specific garbage that gets added as well, which imho, is the worst of the lot.
Official GB release is good on two counts - for those who like stock it's good news, and for the devs it's good too as it provides a new base etc. for cooking.

Do you know if everybody likes Sense UI ?
This isn't even the ROM that is similar to it. That is coming soon
Finishing touches to the last wee niggles etc. ongoing
Exactly, Sense UI is not for everyone.
I for one love that SuperHero bring only some Sense UI bits (black notification bar, calendar, etc.) but for the rest is 90% clean Android 2.1 Eclair.
Just look at different sizes:
- SuperHero = 92MB
- ChronosDroid = 103MB
P.S. Ask an iPhone user how far he can go customizing his phone... eheheh!

Just to argue a little its not that clean, there quite a few sense apps, sure no widgets. Thats why I actually like SuperHero ROMs.
FyI clean Vanilla ROM size is ~50Mb only.
this isnt vanilla, its villainrom without rosie and htc lockscreen based on some aosp stuff, but it still has sense ui framework which allows you to use htc apps such as htcdialer and htccontacts and htc facebook sync
I bet a lot of people will try this one...it has Villain quality stamp on it.
I hope Villain team work on the cyanogenmod 5.0.7...its nice for me to be able to have the great themes out there for CM 5.0.7,the only reason why i wont try this.

can we get vanilla please because the wiimote app is not working on this which indicates its sense and it only works on vanilla. Or atleast strip the sense bits out and put in the bluetooth files needed from vanilla PLEASE. I found the rom fast
Just a little niggle but shouldn't Nathan be the one announcing his roms?just a thought
So frustrating, I get an OutOfMemory each time at startup ! Full-wiped and flashed twice, same result : at first boot I come to the lock screen, frozen, with the words "Invalid SIM card", and an OutOfMemory exception if I check logcat.
I get sim card invalid. Tried 2 times with and without sim lock. Wiped all I have, except SD. What I never needed to wipe until now.

Hi
Big red letters on the post that's remove sim pin.......
Crashes (resets) the phone with JIT enabled a lot more than I care about, but then we were warned it could be unstable. But overall, very impressive!
I decided to go for this one because all the "drama" over on the Cronos thread spooked me a bit. Might let that one settle for a while before touching it...
EDIT: In fact it seems to be rebooting by itself now every single time it boots up, once everything has loaded. Think I'll have to disable JIT just so it's usable today.

[Q] Select Copy/Paste text like Sence roms.. and

Hi,
I have recently converted from Sence based ROM to Vanilia based ROM (OpenDesire 4.0) and trying to find some alternative apps for the core features I use all the time on my phone. The main one I am looking for is an app which can select/copy and paste in most apps?
I have tried searching and googling and only seem to find this one which takes a screen shot and then OCR's but people say its very inaccreate. I am also only really looking for text not so much images.
Anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Just sorting out a few other apps atm due to converting from sence based ROM's.
Search the market for an app called 'Copy Paste It'. It's not as good as the Sense copy paste but it works pretty well.
Hope this helps

The htc Sense "copy/past" make all the difference..I'm SO UPSET that ONLY htc SENSE can make that !! I was happy too with my cyanogen Rom until I discover that navigation without the copy/past is just ****..how the F**k they didnt think about that when they realized these roms to include it!! because of that im back to htc sense which is so far the best for rightnow, I know that the problem is related to the "browser" naked in android, and the htc one called WEBKIT 3.1 have it...why is it not possible to include then the WEBKIT browser in the other non sense roms then ????

I'm using stock since yesterday... I've been using oxygen, smooth, very, very fast rom and brilliant battery life but today I discovered that MMS are not working at all on the correct settings. I've been reinstalling oxy etc. but no success.
Now I'm on stock froyo and I think that it's smoothier than some other roms from xda. (Sense 2.1+3.0 mixes)
No examples but like I said, no problematic and smooth rom.
I've been using custom roms for months, always some sh**... random reebots / USB speed problem (kernels and sh***)... Now I can say 'uff' - everything works.
Sry for my eng - polish native
Yes yes, stock rom is very stable and is fast, and waiting for ginger 2.3 stock.

Yeah I was thinking that myself! Actually my Desire was originally Orange (Spain) branded and they had put all this awful bloatware on it so that was my original reason for rooting and good thing too! I think Orange are the worst for it, though I've heard Vodafone are pretty bad too...
I'm on Vodafone but there is no bloatware on my device. Not even a Vodafone logo.

Talked to HTC about downgrading

Hello everyone, I had emailed HTC yesterday about downgrading my Desire back to 2.2. and this is what they said...
I understand you installed the Gingerbread build on our developer portal and would like to flash back to 2.2 Froyo. I understand how important it is for your phone to function properly and I will be happy to assist. The Gingerbread build that was posted was not intended for North American users unless they only needed the device to test applications they were writing. We do not have a method for an end user to flash back to 2.2 at home, however if you can reply with the device serial number located on the back of the phone after you remove the back cover and the battery and the name of your cellular provider I can find out if you are able to send the phone into HTC to be re-flashed.
So in other words unless we find a way to unlock the bootloader we have to send it in to HTC which kinda sucks.
Let me know what you think!
There are people in other threads that have been given the answer fron htc support that the upcoming boot loader unlocker will unlock ALL htc phones.

ok, sure we agree that htc relesed gb as dev, and sure a lot of us thougt someone will crack the hboot soon. But crap this is a bad build...
The call function is often "hanging" a while after finising a call, after installing some of my regular apps, gb is terrible slow, the sence clock sometimes stops in time, and i could go on...
I have not read all of the posts here since the dev release of gb, but i for one is "not realy happy" with the dev gb, and would sure as hell give good money for going back to what i had before "upgrading" to gb.
Ok, I got that of my chest... someone says htc dealers can downgrade to froyo. Does anyone know of someone that can do that in Bergen, Norway?
Well, luckily for me, I do not experience any of the issues described here. From my point of view the GB update was a success.

Have you tried this: Move apps to SD - Unrooted Froyo Guide. Noobs Guide (from the Desire Q&A forum) ? It worked for me when I was on Stock 2.2, so it might help you too. I can't try it now, as I am already rooted and using a custom rom.

[Q] S-off without identifier tag

Hey guys,
I'm wondering if any of you can help me out. I have a HTC Wildfire S but I'm getting quite fed up with always running out space and not being able to move some of the preinstalled things to my SD card. So... I read up a little and believe I need to root it to gain admin so I can start moving things around. To do that I need to turn S-off(?) but the problem i'm having is HTCDev don't seem to be emailing me whatever I'm supposed to get after pasting my identifier code. Is there anyway to get it S-off without the identifier thingy?
Thanks.

If im totally honest I have no idea the differences between them, I was told try CM9.1/CM10, I checked out their wiki, seems pretty good but doesnt actually say if it supports Wildfire S or not, then I found out theres like 3 types of wildfire S. I assume Sense based roms are based on Htc Sense?

CM9.1 has the infamous camcorder bug. CM10 has working camera, but the video records at a very low frame rate. Yes, sense based ROMs are based on HTC sense. In Wildchild, sense stuff is stripped out, only essential files are kept. It makes the phone faster.
N00bness, well, even I was once that way. But I have to appreciate the fact that you are at least researching. People just blindly come and ask questions to which answers are literally one search away.

Loss of camcorder... I dunno man, what happens if the Mrs wants to make some *home movies* ahem.
Wildchild sounds good then. Basically my issue was the lack of space, which I fixed last night with the something2sd app (forgot first part of the name), which also sorted out problem of getting rid of rubbish like twatter and friend stream. Right now i'm not really after anything life changing, stripping it down to the bare essentials and being able to put a few apps on would be great, overall speed improvement and battery life would be awesome as im sick of charging it all the time but I dont want it at the cost of other things not working. Oh and being able to do themes would be really nerdy but cool. Any suggestions?
I actually quite enjoy the research side of things, I like understanding things, granted im not the most technically minded but I can figure out the basics... sometimes.

If you want themes on Wildchild, its pretty much DIY. Visit uot kitchen and make it yourself. And if you want the personalize option to work in Settings, you need to flash the stock Rosie. Its in addons section.
Or you could use CM7.2, based on GB, everything works except USB tethering (which I forgot to mention is a known bug on all CM Roms). Themes are widely spread on play store, xda, and a bunch of other sites. If tethering isn't of concern, you can go for CM7.

Cm7 looks kinda bad, so I would recommend either LunarUI or MattedBlues. Top themes and I've tried out both.
If you like blue, you're gonna like Wildchild. But if you can't handle everything blue, cm7 is for you.
Good luck, and ask away if you still have doubts.
