Talked to HTC about downgrading - Desire General

Hello everyone, I had emailed HTC yesterday about downgrading my Desire back to 2.2. and this is what they said...
I understand you installed the Gingerbread build on our developer portal and would like to flash back to 2.2 Froyo. I understand how important it is for your phone to function properly and I will be happy to assist. The Gingerbread build that was posted was not intended for North American users unless they only needed the device to test applications they were writing. We do not have a method for an end user to flash back to 2.2 at home, however if you can reply with the device serial number located on the back of the phone after you remove the back cover and the battery and the name of your cellular provider I can find out if you are able to send the phone into HTC to be re-flashed.
So in other words unless we find a way to unlock the bootloader we have to send it in to HTC which kinda sucks.
Let me know what you think!

There are people in other threads that have been given the answer fron htc support that the upcoming boot loader unlocker will unlock ALL htc phones.

If you use their online unlocking tool when it comes into use, then you fail.

ok, sure we agree that htc relesed gb as dev, and sure a lot of us thougt someone will crack the hboot soon. But crap this is a bad build...
The call function is often "hanging" a while after finising a call, after installing some of my regular apps, gb is terrible slow, the sence clock sometimes stops in time, and i could go on...
I have not read all of the posts here since the dev release of gb, but i for one is "not realy happy" with the dev gb, and would sure as hell give good money for going back to what i had before "upgrading" to gb.
Ok, I got that of my chest... someone says htc dealers can downgrade to froyo. Does anyone know of someone that can do that in Bergen, Norway?

Well, luckily for me, I do not experience any of the issues described here. From my point of view the GB update was a success.

luckily for me too
GB works excellent for me and i have found no issues, i love it alot, only a root will be amazing to remove some main apps like gmail and maps
but i still don't know what is the Force to SD function and where to find it

Have you tried this: Move apps to SD - Unrooted Froyo Guide. Noobs Guide (from the Desire Q&A forum) ? It worked for me when I was on Stock 2.2, so it might help you too. I can't try it now, as I am already rooted and using a custom rom.

www.htcsense.com Working :D

Just wanted to let you guys know that the site is already working. Enjoy it.
Thx, I will try it now.

Only has options for Desire Z and Desire HD... not Standard Desire
they said that first supported devices would be those, we will have to wait
Well but since i have a desire hd rom in my desire i already tried it. Kinda cool ringing the phone and knowing where it is thru the site... also i can see missed calls and incoming messeges. Htc scores again
"Desire" is what started it all, they should have enabled it for the standard desire first
Needs Sense 2.0 to work, the HD and Z have HTC Hub apps in them which connect to HTCSense.com
Fingers crossed for the next OTA for original Desire to have Email fix for Hotmail EAS and Sense 2.0 then...
has it been said us Desires users will get it?
I've read at several sites that HTC have confirmed that the original Desire will get Sense 2.0 in a OTA update soon... I really hope it's true... But I won't cry if we don't get it because I think Sense already rocks the way it is! and if I ever get sick of it there are always alternatives like launcher pro and etc...

I don't know where you get this from, but in fact some people are already running the desire hd with sense 2.2 on their original desires. Can't see why an official update for the Desire "won't fit"

Probably because they
1. are using the sd card to install the ROM
2. have removed a bunch of useful/needed stuff (like 4 from 5 sense themes) to make it fit in the device itself.
I hope we can get a custom rom that will integrate Sense 2. I don't need the official OTA. Community ROM's are far better. Would like to see a new LeeDroid with Sense 2.
Of course they could get sense 2 to fit on, this is HTC, the company that can pull rabbits from out of their arses. It doesn't have to be the same version as the HD, but supporting htcsense.com would be magic!
i've sense hd......contact,messages and foot print work.....positioning ring and block doesn't work......someone ave this working??

Newer Sense on Desire? How to get it?

Hi. Is there any way to install the newer Sense, like the one on Desire Z (You know, that with painting palette instead of plus in bottom right corner of the screen)
I'd love to see HTC Hub and some other new stuff on my Desire. Is there any ROM for that? If not, why?
Htc desire will get all tht stuff with next update but donno wen
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Thanks for clarifying that. Is there any, You know, less official way to do it right now? Can't believe noone has incorporated it in their Desire ROMs. Compatibility issues? Or HTC's copyright?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
look for Sense HD roms
Thanks! Will install one of them as soon as the camera gets supported. Either that or an official update - whatever comes first
PS Why are You sure there's going to be an official update? I haven't seen any HTC statement on that. Rumors, yes, but no 100% info.

The next update will bring Gingerbread to the HTC Desire. However, don't know when this will happen

So the Desire just might get a GB update

This is what HTC just posted on their FB page
To resolve Desire's memory issue and enable the upgrade to Gingerbread, we will cut select apps from the release.
Look for status updates starting next week. We apologize for any confusion.

Average Joe (Jane) users won't be able to partition the card and all the stuff needed for that
I see many ppl wants a Gingerbread without sense, but as I've tried GB on my Hero, I don't see why ppl want it. The only features I miss from GB are the features provided by the CyanogenMod team. What I think HTC should've done was to release a ROM with Froyo and Sense 2.1

i agree
and move stuff like htc stocks to htc hub so you can download it - if you want.
in fact this would be a FAR better way to go for all roms - I hate all the junk that is added to roms for no good reason. I thought Android was all about choice but then you can't uninstall stuff like quickoffice after they have dumped it on you without root

That sounds a very dtraight-forward way! They won't have to think much in this case. Hope people will accept this in OTA and not blame HTC for removing Market apps.

Spot on Eddy. Once we get HTC on board then we need to concentrate on all the carrier specific garbage that gets added as well, which imho, is the worst of the lot.
Official GB release is good on two counts - for those who like stock it's good news, and for the devs it's good too as it provides a new base etc. for cooking.

HTC Desire Gingerbread UPDATE THIS WEEK

Please note that we are working now to release the 2.3 for HTC Desire.
Unfortunately we don’t have the name of the applications that will be removed from the update however you will be able to install them from Market.
Kindly follow our Facebook page in order to be aware of all the news. 20.05.2011
Yay! another thread on the same thing!! w00t!
Get used to it untill it's over it was the same deal through june, july and august prior to the froyo update last year.
Also great news for everyone on sense roms
this is the last news from htc suport
As long as the apps removed are not part of the sense experience.
Which is exactly the same as they have already stated on facebook, which is exactly the same as already stated in other posts.

I still think they should reconsider and just move stuff from sense into htc hub - save space and make me happier if they shifted STOCKS off my phone!

actually this solution would be there already as from the beginning, or this should not be a special workaround just for Desire from now on. We'll see it.

I don't like having to edit custom rom's to remove the stock.apk out just to do something that should be optional anyway...
who uses stocks? no one - that's who.... (or at least I think the majority don't use it!)
im using the stock froyo:X because im waiting the update

edit: or were you referring to the comment about 'using stock froyo'
I'm using stock since yesterday... I've been using oxygen, smooth, very, very fast rom and brilliant battery life but today I discovered that MMS are not working at all on the correct settings. I've been reinstalling oxy etc. but no success.
Now I'm on stock froyo and I think that it's smoothier than some other roms from xda. (Sense 2.1+3.0 mixes)
No examples but like I said, no problematic and smooth rom.
I've been using custom roms for months, always some sh**... random reebots / USB speed problem (kernels and sh***)... Now I can say 'uff' - everything works.
Sry for my eng - polish native
Yes yes, stock rom is very stable and is fast, and waiting for ginger 2.3 stock.

Can anyone share link where can I find stock ROM?
yes - RUU link is in my sig and here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869048
hey there one advantage of the Desire limited ROM Space, if HTC have to remove stuff to get 2.3 out.. then surely there no room for the Carriers to put in all there junk... or will they just have a hish fit cause they can't put there junk on and so not roll out there own 2.3
phew glad i am on an unbranded handset

Yeah I was thinking that myself! Actually my Desire was originally Orange (Spain) branded and they had put all this awful bloatware on it so that was my original reason for rooting and good thing too! I think Orange are the worst for it, though I've heard Vodafone are pretty bad too...
I'm on Vodafone but there is no bloatware on my device. Not even a Vodafone logo.

[Q] Will the Cyanogen Mod V10 work with my Cricket Wireless HTC One V

I just got an HTC one v from Cricket Wireless and through a bit of patience (which i need badly ) Was able to root it with an AIO kit (Props to the dev of that kit.)
I Recently read that this phone won't be getting Android 4.1 or 4.2 .
I'm wondering (and this is why I posted in general. What roms would be awesome for this little phone and well...I've been all over the net and I'm curious as to "What's cool?"
Would Cyanogen Mod work with this phone?
Would I lose any services (Talk, Text, Data)
I'm aware of the possibility but what are the steps I can take to prevent it/recover from one (if it happens)
I do believe I have the original RUU from another website. and the android SDK on this computer.
I will probably have millions more questions and I am going through the forums, but, I'm interested in hearing what's up. I'm also new here.
Welcome! If I'm not mistaken Cricket Wireless is no sir right{CDMA}? You might want to check out the HTC Cmda thread. However most of the CDMA roms are for Virgin Mobile.

Thanks for the welcome
I believe this phone is PRIMO C according to what I've read. Yes, CDMA
Android Ver: 4.0.3
I recently did a TWRP backup (2 hrs ago) with Ver 2.3.3.0
I'm also reading about Slim Bean.
I would like to have the latest os on this phone, eliminate a good percentage of the crap this phone came with (from Cricket) and have a good time. Yes I know it won't run games very well...but the rest is fantastic.
OK Great! Unfortunately some of the roms like Slim Bean have a bug that Forces a reboot randomly. Usually when unlocking your screen. Another problem is that these roms are usually made for Virgin Mobile and that you'll have to modify them for your network. There is a thread that shows this I believe. I would suggest Rhythmic Rom. It's based on CM10 and doesn't have the reboot bug.
Sent from my One V using xda premium
I think I saw a thread on how to modify a rom to match a service provider. Like a text file or something like that. (Best comparison I can make is modifying the morrowind.ini (for the PC Game Morrowind) file to use a specific sound) So I shouldn't have a problem there. (Just found that thread think it's this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2120559&highlight=cricket)
Rhythmic Rom...I did read a thread about that last night. I think the guy's in the process of trying to solve a bug with the phone's 5mp camera not working and video recording crashes. It looks like a good rom. I might want to try to test this rom out on an emulator (if possible)
If I remember CM10 is based off of Jelly Bean, an OS I'd love to have on this phone.
While I'm at it. I'd like to say thanks for your help so far, and thanks to anybody else who jumps into this thread. This is the first time in a while that I feel like a proper n00b at something.
