I have just taken delivery of my second replacement MDAC3, and it looks like this one might have a problem too!
When I first switched it on, it got as far as the green wm6 screen then the led flashed red a couple of times and the unit switched itself off. I plugged a usb lead in, the orange charging led came on but only for 5 seconds and then started flashing. It did this for a bit then it started flashing green.
To cut a long story short(er) it seems that the phone will not charge the battery unless it is switched off, and even then it gets to 96% and stops and shows the green led
Question: does this sound like the symptoms of a duff battery, or a duff phone?
As the battery seems to have discharged itself in the 2-3 weeks that the phone has been away

Default Blinking amber
I have the same problem on my htc p3300, and when i used batti 2.4 i saw that the battery temperature is 432675.5 etc something fake temerature. This is the reason, why my pda unable to charge my battery. If you set your pda in bootloader mode, it will charge your battery!. After 3 or more times i charged it in bootloader mode somethimes the battery temp sensor works normally, and the charge is working as well. Sometimes not.
But you can charge your battery allways in bootloader mode.
Sorry for my English.
Try it!
Good luck!

When I unplug my Dash from my HTC car charger the charge light and screen icon stayed on. I soft reset many times, and hard reset once and it stayed on. Before I reflash it is their anything I'm not trying? New to note: I let my phone charge overnight and the charge icon on the screen is gone, it shows a full battery. The led is still on, but it's steady green. I think this is a sign of the end is near.
I went out to my van this morning and saw that my car charger no longer works. Mabye some type of power surge caused this. New to note: After charging all night the light is off and the icon is a full battery. My phone showed 100% from 6am to 1:30pm; odd I know. Then I reset it and It was at 7%. I charged it turned off for 3 hrs. and it ran well full green on till one block form my house at 10:30pm. Has anyone had problem after using a "bad" car charger?
Wish my phone didnt stop charging.
I wouldnt need to plug it in every night
your battery may have went bad

I have 2 batterys. I think while charging my phone with my car charger the charger "shorted-out" and messed my phone up. It still works, but the led stays on and the charging icon comes on when it gets below 90%. I installed dontforget .cab to get some led functions back. I like other on this form love my Dash. This is realy hurting me to see it on its' last leg. I found one on craigslist for $60; I paid $140 for my current one on craigslist 'bout 2.5 years ago.
So I got a flashing orange light on my EVO tonight when I plugged it in to charge, phone was dead, wouldn't turn on, dead battery. That's one reason you get a flashing orange light, a completely dead battery, just plug it in and let it sit for a bit and it will get a solid orange light. I advise waiting 20min or so then turning it on.
Side note, car chargers don't always have the power so you can use your phone while it's charging when the battery is really low, had it plugged it and was using it for an hour + and it still died

There are car chargers you can get that will charge the same as your wall charger. Read it and see if it says 1000mA.. There are also adapters that plug into 2 usb ports at 500mA equaling 1000 when charging your phone. Most car usb port chargers have 2 slots or more so its possible. You can also use the adapter method on your computer to receive the full 1000mA charge.
I'm using my palm pre car charger (original). I was streaming Pandora n checking my Facebook and it charged till it was full (green light n all)

Mine charger works for my car, but my moms has a usb port built into the car and that's the one that wouldn't keep my phone alive.

My EVO Shift completely discharged and when I plugged it in to recharge it, I got the same problem - amber light would flash 3 or 4 times then stop, it would not charge and not turn on. I removed the battery for 10min. With the battery removed I plugged in the USB cable into the computer and phone, pressed the power button, unplugged the USB, pressed the power button again, replaced the battery, plugged in the USB and the amber light went solid and appears to be charging now.
BTW, I'm posting this because the OP's solution of plugging "it in and let it sit for a bit" didn't work, it was plugged into the wall adapter all night and didn't charge. I could only get it to do so using the steps above. cheers.
If you happen to be near a Sprint store and the "let it charge for about 20 minutes until solid orange" didn't work, take your battery to them. They can boost it on their battery machine. I see a lot of customers just for this very reason.

I've had my EVO for just a few days and I got the abrupt shut down followed by flashing amber light also. The phone was charging off the usb of my laptop at the time. When i unplugged the phone the light turned off and the phone would not turn on. I thought I fried it because I did not know what flashing amber meant. What was strange about it was that not only did I not receive the usual "battery is nearing 15%, please plug in" notification but the phone powered off when I was reading an article about things to do to prolong battery life. Anyway, I proceeded to charge the phone from an outlet and now things seem to be fine.
I am having a similar problem with my HTC Incredible 2 on verizon. Last night it was charging just fine, and when I woke up this morning it was off and it won't turn on or do anything. I can plug it in and if I hold the battery it will flash the orange light a few times but it always stops. I've tried the fixes in this thread and nothing...what can I do?
It was still almost half way charged when I feel asleep last night so the battery wouldn't have run down. The only thing I'm worried about is if the charger did something to the battery but it seems unlikely as its a charger I've used often.

Thanks! That worked!
I tried bryank909's method and that worked for me too, thanks a lot !
EDIT : after a little time the LED switched off . So I retried the trick and it's not working anymore...

When the amber light is blinking, it basically means charging, but there is not enough turn on voltage to power on the device. If you were previously charging it > remove the battery for 5 minutes > replace it > charge the device on a WALL outlet, NOT a usb charging, i.e. computer, tv, xbox, etc. You should be good to go after that.
Well, when I plug it on a wall outlet and always this switching amber LED...
The fact is that this charger is working well with my other phone (HTC Sensation)
I'll try another charger if I found it !
Hello
This happens on my HTC HD2 when it's on the car mount and used as a GPS, and when there's too much sun hitting the device!
I know I should put the device in the shade, but for that, I'd have to buy a new car mount system, annoying...
In my case of desire sv which suddenly died and was "amber blinking", I had to just push the battery a little bit for it to start working again. Until that point of physical battery adjustment, I tried many options for the "amber blink" to go away.
Thank God, the phone is alive. Apparently, as I understand, the amber blink is to indicate that the battery is not present - perhaps. :on't Know::
Yesterday when i plugged my phone in to charge, the battery icon turned into a question mark and the led started blinking orange and green. I tried pulling the battery out and rebooting the phone and the battery went back to normal but the led kept blinking. I left it to charge overnight and now I cannot get the phone to turn on at all. I have tried pulling the battery, holding the power button, plugging it in, nothing works. It will not turn on. I am on skyraider zeus if that helps at all.

The blinking LED of orange and green means the battery is overheating.
Try a new battery, battery is possible dead?
What kernel are you running? Stock clock speed and voltage? I would also recommend trying a new battery before anything else.
Sounds like your battery is overheating. Well actually sounds like you overheated it to death. It definately isn't a hardware problem though. Ive done this a couple times. Last summer while waiting for Revolutionary to come out I burned allot of time on Netflix with my phone plugged in, one week later fried battery. Just bring the battery in and they can tell you if it's dead or not

Today, when i was charging my phone when it was around 20%, it didnt charge well and gave a message that the phone was draining more than it was charging. I shut my phone at let it charge, but the orange light started to blink on and off so it wasnt charging right. I tried different plugs and chargers but same deal.
Now the light doesnt come on at all, so im assuming all the battery is dead. I checked online a bit for solutions like pressing the power button and up/down button for a while, doing so under a light, leaving it charging for a while, trying to charge with my laptop usb. But nothing seems to be working.
When I try the power and up/down combo and then charge it, the light comes back for a few seconds but then vanishes. I dont know if this means anything, but in any case, I cant get my phone on so i need help. Is there anything I havent tried?
Sounds like a hardware problem, but I'm no expert. I'd take it to a repair place.

I had a similar issue months back with my m8. The micro usb port contacts had weakened and I had to put pressure on top of the area where the cable connects to the phone just to get it to charge. I was still under warranty, so I ended up taking mine back to ATT and getting it replaced for free, with them calling it a defect.
Try putting pressure on different parts of the cable when you charge it, and use a program like gsam battery monitor, to make sure it's drawing power. This will only be a temporary fix, though.
