Dash won't stop charging? - HTC Excalibur

When I unplug my Dash from my HTC car charger the charge light and screen icon stayed on. I soft reset many times, and hard reset once and it stayed on. Before I reflash it is their anything I'm not trying? New to note: I let my phone charge overnight and the charge icon on the screen is gone, it shows a full battery. The led is still on, but it's steady green. I think this is a sign of the end is near.

I went out to my van this morning and saw that my car charger no longer works. Mabye some type of power surge caused this. New to note: After charging all night the light is off and the icon is a full battery. My phone showed 100% from 6am to 1:30pm; odd I know. Then I reset it and It was at 7%. I charged it turned off for 3 hrs. and it ran well full green on till one block form my house at 10:30pm. Has anyone had problem after using a "bad" car charger?

Wish my phone didnt stop charging.
I wouldnt need to plug it in every night

I have 2 batterys. I think while charging my phone with my car charger the charger "shorted-out" and messed my phone up. It still works, but the led stays on and the charging icon comes on when it gets below 90%. I installed dontforget .cab to get some led functions back. I like other on this form love my Dash. This is realy hurting me to see it on its' last leg. I found one on craigslist for $60; I paid $140 for my current one on craigslist 'bout 2.5 years ago.

blinking orange

This morning, my phone was dead. I tried plugging it in but found a blinking orange light. I tried turning it on but it wouldnt turn on. Does this mean there is a problem with my battery?
I've gone on several trips lately where I used my phone as a GPS. I just got a new dash mount for it. On those trips, I had noticed a blinking alternating orange and green light. I thought this meant it was charging and I had a notification, however, now that I do some searching it looks like it means overheating perhaps.
The orange blinking did turn solid after a while and I was able to boot my phone.
Could be a battery issue. If the phone is completely dead, it takes a few minutes on the charger before it can power on. Let it sit for like 5 - 10 minutes on the charger, and when the light goes solid it should be able to be turned on. You may want to invest in a new battery.

This is normal behavior for a completely drained battery. The phone will not turn on until it achieves partial charge (I'm not sure off-hand what %), and it will give you the flashing orange to let you know.
As you observed, once you charge it enough, it will turn on normally and everything is fine again.
As for the blinking you observed during navigation, that could have meant notifications while charging, as you suspected. It's also possible that you were overheating, but if so the phone would have stopped accepting charge and the battery icon would have changed to indicate such.
Thanks, it is working again now. I'll have to keep an eye on the battery life to see if it has really gotten worse.
In the car, I know there was one time where it got really hot. I held it next to the AC vent for a few minutes to cool it down. Also, my charger cable may be going bad. I noticed that eventhough I turn off the screen, sometimes it will randomly come back on. I figure maybe this is the cable getting disconnected and then reconnected.
This happened to me before and it turned out it was my charger not working properly. I even got a message multiple times saying that the charging accessory was not compatible but it was the the stock data cable. The problem turned out to be it didn't have enough voltage or something like that because it kept telling me to connect to a wall rather than through USB, while I was using the A/C adapter.

I'm pretty sure that a blinking orange light during use is a "hot battery" notification. On one trip, I had navigation going, while streaming XM and had the car charger plugged in. When I noticed the blinking orange, the temp was at 119F and really hot to the touch. I immediately stopped navigation and streaming, and unplugged from the charger. Since I had the air on, I removed the phone case and battery door and let the AC blow on the phone which cooled it down and the blinking stopped.

No. It doesn't do that. If you are charging, you get a solid red and no indication of notifications.
The blinking red/green means the battery is too hot and is not charging, as other people have confirmed.

Not Charging After Full Drain. Not Turning On When Plugged In

So I'm having a problem where I drained my battery and the phone shut itself off with 1% to 2% battery life remaining. I've left it charging for a good 45 minutes now. Turned it on, and it reported 1%. Thinking that it was just a reporting error, I unplugged it, and the phone promptly shut itself off. Now another 30 minutes has passed, unplugged it, turned it on. The phone refuses to turn on! It will however show the battery charging animation, so I know it's not bricked or anything. I guess my only solution is to leave it charging while it's off overnight, even though I need to use my phone right now... That important person will have to wait :crying:
Edit: Works again... Though it does not show my battery life correctly. It says 15% when it's probably more like 2%.

Might want to use a different cable.. i have read that the cable and possibly even the wall adapter can be flakey.. if you have a spare cable try to use it instead of the lg one..
Original LG cable is fine. It's ever since I drained the battery it's started to act weird. I plugged it in at 3% in hopes of "calibrating" the batterystats and it was charging fine. Up till now. I caught a glimpse of my phone turn itself off while charging.
Now it's randomly decided to turn itself on and bootloop... And back to charging animation while off we go. What the hell? The battery isn't charging... Switching cables didn't help btw.
Found a third cable. Temporarily working..

Hmmm maybe the charger? Sounds to me like its not getting proper power hence the shutting down while plugged in.. but what do I know heh
I have the same problem. Plugged the phone in at about 3% and walked away. Came back an hour later to find it stuck in a loop of the LG logo and a black screen. I can sometimes get it into recovery, and from there see that the battery percentage will go from 0% to 15% and back to 0%. It's like the battery is bad.
I think it's a problem with the ROM/firmware where we can't drain it and hope to charge it up again..
I'm still running v1 of the jb release and last night I used my phone until it shut down at 2%, charged it up fine, and its been ok, knock on wood. One weird thing is that if I use the phone while on the charger, and I mean light tapatalk usage, the phone will drop to 99%, even while plugged in. Weird.

That's normal. When the phone is charged at 100% it stop charging to avoid the battery to be overcharged thus reducing it's durability.
Not charging again... My phone maintained a charge between 10% and 25% or so according to the battery usage graph. So I switched cables again. I went into the service menu and got a screenshot of the charging test this time. First pic is with the LG cable. Second is with a Samsung cable. Third picture is back with LG cable after the battery successfully got charged past the "low battery zone" with the Samsung cable.
I have a similar problem with the stock charger. After a few weeks of working perfectly, it just sopped charging my Optimus G.
Bizarrely, it charges my wife's Galaxy S2 HD LTE without issues.
And the charger from my Sony-Ericsson Xperia pro charges the Optimus without issues.
It's almost like the stock charger burns out something internally such that it doesn't output enough voltage/amperage/current.
Sent via the magic of an Optimus G (E971) running CM 10.1.
So it happened again... But this time, it occurred in between 20% to 40% battery life while charging. It's probably the LG cable.. Gonna call support and ask for another.

I have a similar situation -- I powered down my phone one time at 5 %, did not wake up until one hour of charge, then last night tried again with about 40 % of battery left, same problem. I was wondering at first if the phone did not go to power down properly, and that the battery would drain through that, but then I just did another test with my battery at 30 %, and the phone did not want to restart until plugged in for 5 minutes.. It's almost as if the booting process is just this huge battery drain, sucking all the juice to start the phone in a peak of electrical rage.. anyway -- I noticed that yesterday, I was trying to restart the phone after a while, it would start to boot but it seemed it owuld just miss a little bit of juice to complete the process, then finally when it made it to screen it was at about 10 %..
Could it be that fix we used in the stock rom to get the screen at more than 65 %, and the cpu at 1512 mhz ? It seems more software related than hardware in my case, meaning I don't beleive it is the cable
Hate to revive an old thread, but as the new owner of an LGOG i just ran across this problem the other day. My phone has been able to go two day on a charge, and last week I forgot to charge it on night. Found it dead the next day. was leaving so I took it intending to charge at work or in the car. Car charger had no effect, but upper portion of phone got hot. plugged it in at home, same thing, charging icon, getting hot, but not charging. Also noted dim screen glow all the time.
tried 2o second hold on power button, vol up and down, got into the download screen and the bootloader screen, but no charge. Finally held the power button and vol. up and red charging light came on. Held it for a minute and the red charging light stayed on, let go out it went. Decided to try a couple of rubber bands around the phone to hold in the buttons, and it worked ---phone charged fully and operates as usual.
Thought I'd pass my experiance on to help anyone else with similar problem. Any idea why this worked?
I don't know, but I do know that getting to android 4.3 roms like the ones in Houstonn's thread have cured my O. G. from that, and from also constant and random camera reboot, and from also maps freaking out when plugged in in the car..

For anybody that runs into this problem
I had this problem and tried for hours and hours to fix it. When you stick the usb charger into your phone, it literally takes like 5 hours to charge 2% when it's in this state
So it never gets to a point of wanting to turn on because the phone gets too hot trying to charge
My solution: Put a bunch of ice in a bowl, then put something over that like a bag, aluminum foil, basically anything that would be a barrier between the ice and your phone to keep it from getting wet
Now let it charge with the phone sitting on top of that ice for a few hours(make sure to add new ice as it melts) and your phone will charge up enough that it can be fully turned on. Then just let it keep charging
This worked for me after trying other things for hours. If this didn't work i was gonna open the phone and pull the battery
After the last update I have not had this issue. I've run my phone dead a few times and now it always charges - no issue.

Last fall. I had to go to the stock rom, do the update, reroot, then all was fine.

Really odd Charging situation

I got great battery life yesterday (better than usual I'd say....had about 50% left after about 3 hours of screen on and 13 hours off the charger, so I let it sit off the charger over night. Not something I normally do. When I woke up I used it for a bit and got to about 21 hours off charger and 4 hours of screen on....the important thing is this:
when I plugged it back in, it started carging like normal I left the room for a bit, came back.....and it was up a couple percent, but said it was no longer charging. I've reseated the charging cable a couple of times, to no avail. When the phone is on, it won't respond to the cable at all. If I turn the phone off, and plug in the cable, it comes on, acts like it knows it's charging. but keeps bouncing from the Samsung screen to the battery charging screen (no animation though) and a quick vibrate. It seems like if I leave it on, and leave it with the charger in, it'll charge, but it's not reflected in the battery %. if I reboot, it'll go up some, but not as quickly as it should have.
I've been fighting this all day and am finally up to the high 70s. also, if the phone is on, and I have the cable plugged in, but pull the battery, the phone will stay on via the power cable for about 3 seconds. Have been using DartStalker 6 with the Compulsion Kernel. I had an old version of that kernel so I updated to 10 with no change. Obviously wiped cache and dalvik for that....
it seems really weird that it kinda knows it's being charged, but.....seems
IDK....any ideas? suggestions? oh, also if I plug the cable into my laptop, the laptop doesn't see the device.
also, stock cable and charger block. have tried different regular USB cables and chargers....specifically whatever my wife is using to charge (successfully) her HTC One Mini.
just had more weird stuff happen. got home threw the phone on the charger, hooray! it shows that it's charging! after letting it sit for a bit I check it....it's lost juice. UGH!
Went to T-Mobile today. New phone should be here in 2 days. Oh well.....

Weird battery and charging issue I need help with!

Been using my Moto 360 for months, no problem. Yesterday I was travelling so I used up more battery before going back to the dock than I usually would. I want to say it was down to maybe 10%. Maybe lower.
Threw it on the charging dock. I see the small blue circle, charging, and I walk away. Come back a few minutes later and the screen was off and white LED on charging dock was off. Couldn't do anything to get the white LED back and show that it was charging. I could pick up the watch and use it, but had very low battery. At some point I think it died, and again, I could never charge it.
Got frustrated, left it off the dock (because I read something on a moto support page about leaving it off the dock for 30 minutes?), and went to bed.
This morning, woke up, and put it on the charger. The white LED came on and the watch booted up. At first it shows charging and even says 13%. How that's possible I don't know, but the white LED wouldn't stay on. It would go off, at which point the regular watchface would show up and also the warning about being below 15%. Then a few seconds later the white LED would come back on and I'd get the charging screen. but that would only last a few seconds, then it would go off, and my watch face would show up. I just watched as it did this and you should see from the times the charging screen did pop up that it was actually draining battery (if you believe I was even at 13% this morning, which I don't). After a few minutes of this, the white LED was off and I can't get it back to charge at all. I'm sitting here this morning just as I did last night: watch won't come on and no white LED light on the dock and what looks like no charging.
What is going on here? Again, ZERO problems until this. Now my battery is so low that it shut off and I'm just leaving it on the dock hoping that somehow it is charging, even though the white LED on the dock is not coming on. I know I shouldnt have let my battery get so low before juicing it up, but that doesn't mean I should be sitting here unable to charge up my watch. I really don't think something all of a sudden yesterday happened to my watch and dock.
Anyone have any ideas here? Im on the road, so no qi plate here to test using a different method to charge it up (I have it at home, but I really wanted my watch to use for this trip!). Don't know anyone with a moto 360 either.
Thank you!!
Try a different USB cable/charging brick combination, they could be bad. If this doesn't work, most likely a bad dock.
Well I tried a different cable, no change. Left it sitting on the dock all day, nothing happened. Came home from going out and the charging/not charging is happening now ( and all of a sudden the watch got juice? Makes no sense to me.). I videoed it. Does this video shed any light on the cause? Thanks! I ask because it's hard to believe the dock is bad after no issues for months now.

Thanks again.

I have sent mine to Motorola twice now for the same problem.
They just sent the watch back to me and I don't get the issue anymore, however they have introduce a new problem for my watch where I can't even use tilt to wake anymore...
Fed up with their repair team, just asked them to replace the watch now because either their repair team has no clue how to fix it or that there is some other fault they cannot find.

i have a similar issue. it seems that the craddle connection is not as strong as it used to be. I often times see my watch charge all the way to 100%, and then begin to slowly dwindle down. I have to take the watch off the charger and then place it back in "more securely", and then it would charge again.... anyone else?
i think i figured it out. i had a dual USB wall adapter that both my phone and watch were plugged into. only recently did I get a QI wireless charging pad. it appears that when both devices are charging, the phone took up all of the juice, leaving none for the watch (until the phone reached 100%). when I separated the two into different USB wall plugs, then they both charge up as normal.
hope this helps others.
I'm experiencing this exact same issue right now. I'm leaving it on the dock hoping that it starts to charge at some point. Have you discovered a fix or a possible cause for this issue so far?
I'm having the same issue. Started yesterday afternoon. I have 2 charge cradles and its the same on both so it leads me to believe its not a cradle issue. When I put the watch on the cradle, the charge light will come on for a few seconds and then go back off. After this happens a couple times it just wont come on anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have the watch for almost 2 weeks and it never charge full and it loose all its charge in minutes I only used it 2 and it was off charge. Wife wi go home I am tired I like the watch. But I didn't use it I tried everything from the above mentioned proposals but seriously nothing worked I'm from Egypt and I bought online from USA from Nordstrom what should I do

M8 Not Charging Properly

Hey guys,
My HTC One M8 stopped charging normally a few weeks ago. I had it plugged in to charge one night, and suddenly I started to smell burning plastic, and the bottom of my phone was very warm. Sure enough, when I unplugged the charger it was all discolored and the metal part was scalding hot. Obviously my first suspicion was my charger, so I stopped using it and tried several others, and that's where my charging troubles started.
Now whenever I have it plugged in (no matter what charger I use), it says it's charging (i.e. the orange LED light is on and the battery icon in the status bar has the charging animation), but it will either not charge at all and actually lose percentage, or it will charge VERY slowly...as in 1% per 10-15 minutes. I'll plug it in before bed and when I wake up, it will have only charged 30-40%.
So obviously the charger isn't the problem, it's either the charging port or the battery itself. I doubt it's the battery though, because once the phone is unplugged and I'm using it during the day, the battery life is fine and there are no issues. I'm almost certain it's the port, so I'm probably going to open my phone up and try to replace it...but I want some opinions first. Does this sound like a charging port issue or a battery issue? I want to make sure before I go trying to replace parts
No clue, you answered the questions yourself already.
Good luck in getting it fixed !
