[Q] rom manager help - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so i went to update my radio combo and went to down grade clockwork but when i booted to recovery i was still on 3.0.0.5, tired to flash amon ra from rom manger no luck
flashed ra recovery with a .img file in bootloader and updated
now im trying to flash back to clockwork so i can access my backup of sense and update my prl
has any one ran into this problem with rom manager
could i transfer my backups over to ra recovery?

Flash Clockwork the same way you flashed AR. It's fairly common for Rom Manager to not flash the recovery.img correctly - or whatever the problem may be. Download a PC36IMG of ClockworkMod, put it on the root of your SD card. If you already have one of Amon Ra, rename or delete it. Boot into the bootloader, accept the update when prompted, then go into recovery and restore your backup. You cannot restore Clockwork backups with Amon Ra, nor the other way around. If you really want to use Amon Ra, you can flash CWM, restore your backup, flash Amon Ra, make a backup, then delete your Clockwork backups and solely use Amon Ra.
I believe this is the latest version of ClockworkMod. PC36IMG here: http://db.tt/9sksyTK

1, stop using ROM Manager, and 2, stop using clockwork and you'll be fine....

Amon ra all the way man. I switched from rom manager/clockwork no problems.

I had your same issues with ROM manager. ROM manager and CWM really just have a bunch of mess-ups; get Amon Ra, works every time.

Why can't I do a nandroid backup with Clockwork

I was on the AMon RA Recovery v1 8.0 and I could use quickboot to get into recovery and do nandroid backups easily. Now I flashed the clockwork recovery and tried using the full version of Rom Manager to do a nandroid and all it does is ask me what to name the file and reboot me to a white screen with options to reboot, recovery, usb toggle and that is about it, no option to do a nandroid backup. When I thought it was supposed to do it itself seeing as that is what the menu says.
I guess I need to reflash the RA Recovery and do it manually. But before I try anything else is this clockwork app good for anything? Can it install ROMs ok or has this app been forgotten and is no longer updated?
Because Clockwork does not restore a nandroid you made using RA, and vice-versa.
I know that. I need to know if clockwork is broken currently. I saw a similar thread for a different phone and they are having the same problem.
I just went ahead and flash the RA recovery so I could make a nandroid backup. Then I can flash the clockwork recovery again and then try installing CM... Nah screw it clockwork is buggy. I'll just download CM6 and install it via RA.
I used clockwork to make a backup. You have to go into the recovery menu, and once in there, then you have an option to do a backup. They probably should have re-worded that top menu option to recovery/backup instead of just recovery.
I think CW and Rom Manager are both buggy in my experience I would stick with RA.

[Q] how to get from clockwork to AmonRA for new root

Im about to root using unrevoked and have been reading about the rsa keys and clockwork not backing them up in nand back up.
My question is how do I go from a fresh root with clockwork recovery to AmonRA recovery.
Do I need to do nandroid back-up in clockwork then flash the AmonRA recovery with rom manager.
Also, can I change to AmonRA recovery with the free rom manager? If not is there another way to do it.
Basically I want to be with (for now) a stock rom, rooted, with amronRA, a nandroid back-up, and wireless tether.
You can flash to amon-ra with Rom manager. Open up rom manager and scroll to the bottom of the menu. There's a button that should say Flash Alternate Recovery and then RA REcovery v 1.80. Push that and it'll install amon-ra for you. Just be warned that rom manager won't be able to flash any roms for you after that, and you'll have to push the roms to your phone and boot into recovery and flash everything manually.
Yes use rom manager to switch. You can nandroid with clockwork if you worried, than use rom manager to switch to amonsra, than redo you nandroid with amonra!! Easy to do. Just don't think to hard about it!!!

Put the zip anywhere and clockwork backups won't work on ra.

If it's the new RA recovery(2.1.1 I think? or 2.2?), it can be anywhere. I haven't used it yet (still on 1.8.0, if it's not broke, don't fix it), so I don't know how to navigate folders with it. On RA 1.8.0, the zip has to be on the root of your sd card for it to see it. And as the other guy said, you can't use clockwork nandroid backups on RA, and vice versa. So I suggest making backups with both, definitely is safe.

a few question on recoveries.

I rooted with unrevoked and have been happy. I made a back up with clockwork mod then quickly changed my recovery to amonra because I was told it would back up the 4g keys. Now I have flashed myns (first rom other than stock) and would like to go back to using clockwork so I can flash roms like crazy from rom manager. Is there anything I need to know before changing back.
Also if I need to go back to my stock nandroid back-up on amonra with my 4g keys, how can I get back to amonra again??
I want to try cyanogen mod 7 nightly.
Thanks in advance.

I personally wouldn't switch back to clockwork, IMO, Amon RA is more stable and reliable. I have also grown very partial to doing all of my flashing manually from recovery, and have stayed away from using ROM manager for flashing and wiping. I just dont trust it. However, if you do indeed wish to use clockwork and ROM manager, the simplest way to switch between Amon RA and Clockwork recovery is by using ROM manager. There is an option in within ROM manager that says "flash clockworkMOD recovery". That will flash you back to the most recently updated clockwork recovery. If you want to switch back to Amon Ra, there is an option "flash alternate Recovery". That will flash you back to Amons recovery. Just remember, any nandroids you created with Amon, can only be restored by Amon, and any created by clockwork can only be restored by clockwork. They are NOT interchangeable, and will cause problems if you try.

[Q] Going from Clockwork Mod to Anon RA?

Quick question: I want to flash Anon RA recovery but I already have Clockwork mod installed, do I need to delete clockwork first or can i just flash anon ra from the bootloader no problem? i dont want to run into any problems.
Followup question: for anon ra is there a similar "rom manager" app that works with it?
Longer explanation: Ive been trying out several sense gingerbread roms and noticed how fast i max out my internal memory. I read you can partition the memory card and use an apps to sd card app to fix this, but if you try to partition with clockwork you could potentially brick the phone. even though its been addressed in later versions it looks like it has still happened a couple times and this makes me nervous. plus it seems everyone says anon ra is a better recovery anyway.
Thanks!
You can just flash amon-ra without deleting clockwork. I don't know of a rom manager app for amon-ra but its safer and more thorough to do everything manually in recovery anyway
We're comin from a pure power source.
Just flash amon ra from Rom manager, its near the bottom, I think it says "flash alternate recovery". And remember, you can't do a nand restore from ra that you made with cwm.
I have to disagree with that, sorry. The best thing to do with Rom Manager is uninstall it. Flash the AR PC36IMG.zip from the AR thread in the Dev section
thanks worked well. deleted rom manager too just to be sure
Installing Amon Ra from ROM Manager or flashing it manually doesn't matter. Either way will yield the same results. But I agree with getting rid of ROM Manager. So make it useful one time to flash Amon Ra before you delete it and then part ways.

Just beware, in case it wasn't clear, you cannot use backups made with Clockwork on Amon and vice versa. It would be wise to immediately create a new nandroid backup when you switch over to Amon. Don't forget to make an individual Wimax nandroid backup too.
How do you get rid of backups to save space?
I created a clockwork backup but plan on switching to Amon Ra so I want to erase all unnecessary files.
