Bluez IME: Use your Wiimote to Play Emulators - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anybody confirm if this works on the Epic with the Wii remote?? I know Wiimote never worked on Galaxy S devices, but this?
How awesome would this be along with Tv-out working!!
**Edit, not working yet. But progress is being made. Follow here:

We’ve all seen old videos of people hacking various devices so they could use them in ways never meant to be used. While I can’t teach you how to wire your PS2 controller to drive your car, I can tell you that using your Wiimote to play Yongzh’s famous emulators. And believe it or not it’s incredibly simple. So, you’ve gotten Yongzh’s famous emulators for free and you want to really game. You have a phone without a physical keyboard and you’re sick of just playing RPGs. The virtual keyboard just doesn’t do Super Mario 64 justice, does it? Well, welcome in Bluez IME: The tool that’ll redo how you play emulators on your phone.
Step 1: Download Bluez IME from the Market. Sadly, the app only is confirmed to work with the following devices:
* HTC Desire 2.2
* HTC Desire 2.3.1 Oxygen
* HTC Evo
* HTC HD
* Samsung Captivate
* Samsung Galaxy S
If you don’t have one of those devices, try it out anyway. It may work. If not, email the dev and see if you can convince him to support your device.
Step 2: Go into your settings menu, select language and keyboard, and activate Bluez IME.
Step 3: Go into Bluez IME settings and activate Bluetooth. In the Select device driver menu, select Wiimote. Click Select Device and press scan. While it is scanning hit the sync button on your Wiimote (that red button right next to the batteries)
Step 4: Use the Select IME command in the settings to select Bluez as your keyboard. You may need to redo the syncing in step 3.
At this point, your phone should send you a message saying that a device as been connected. If not, redo step 3 and make sure all of the settings are correct.
You’ve got it connected now, you’re almost there!
Step 5: Go into your favorite emulator, and go to menu>settings>other settings. Make sure “Use input method” is checked. You can now go into your Input Settings and map the keys anyway you want! Enjoy your playing!

I don't even own a wii but if someone confirms this works I'm buying a wiimote
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App

Didn't work for me. I tried every option w/ gameboid.
Btw I tried a wiimote. It found the wiimote, connected to it, but then gave me a connection refused error. this app is definitely the closest to using a wiimote on galaxy s.

Man I wish we could use ps3 controllers... now that would be bomb.
cd's or tapes?

This didn't work on the EVO either until CM6... so maybe when we see CM7? Someone could give the current build a try. Worth a shot.

Definitely watching to see how this goes. Anyone emailed the dev who has downloaded this?

from what I understand it's a kernel thing..
does this mean it can be fixed with a custom kernel?
if so, would it work with a custom kernel on a TouchWiz or Sense ROM?
Comment 46 by project member [email protected], Jun 6, 2011
Yes, that is my understanding, a custom ROM will enable L2CAP and thus this. As I understand it, Sense and TouchWiz are "just" homescreens + some bundled apps. But since HTC/Samsung own these, it may be hard to get/make a custom ROM with Sense/TouchWiz.
Comment 47 by [email protected], Jun 10 (3 days ago)
I'll get specifics for you later on, but from when I tested it, the official Classics Controller did not function. Oddly enough, a PS2>Classics Controller adapter I have that fails to register on another Wiimote IME did take button inputs, but the wrong physical buttons were pressing the wrong virtual buttons. I'll get a more exact mapping typed up to specify.
Comment 48 by project member [email protected], Jun 12 (2 days ago)
@ChicoK: Could you post me a Logcat showing what happens when you connect the classic controller? Are you using the MotionPlus plugin?
Comment 51 by [email protected], Yesterday (27 hours ago)
Works fine for me exept one big bug. When you try to change mapping for Left thumbstick left (nunchuck) it automatically changes the mapping for Button A (remote) thus making either button or thumbstick unusable. I dont think this even requires a wiimote to test, so should not probably be a problem to fix
P.S. Both buttons do actually work, they only map as one.
Comment 52 by [email protected], Yesterday (26 hours ago)
Looking at the source. They definately have the same id.
svn/trunk/BluezIME/src/com/hexad/bluezime/WiimoteReader.java
Line 67 "KeyEvent.KEYCODE_A, //Byte 1, bit 3"
and
Line 121 along with line 147 "KeyEvent.KEYCODE_A, //Classic, Left stick left"
Comment 53 by project member [email protected], Today (16 hours ago)
Oops, there are too many keys
Attached is a debug version which has the left-thumbstick-left reassigned to Q.
I will put it on Market shortly.

Guitar Hero

Is there any (good) Guitar Hero (or sort of) for X1?
I don't think, that any guitar hero style game would work properly on the X1, because X1 doen't support multi touch. I tried a sort of guitar hero game and it was hardly playable.

How to play
You can tap the fret buttons on the lower part of the screen or you can use LEFT UP RIGHT hardware keys to play.
If you want to quit the level, just press the RED (end call) key. Alternatively, you can click the top right corner (where the framerate counter is located).
Please note that with the hardware buttons you won't be able to net those multitouch points. A singletouch easier mode is planned for future versions.
Changelog
Version 0.31
Debug information added.
DirectShow error checking added.
Version 0.3

Planned features for FUTURE versions
There is going to be a music editor for PC (at least) so you can create levels. The process won't be automatic, though, because we cannot make a program that guesses where the guitar is in the music by itself. So you are going to place the notes where you feel is right.
Note animations when you tap them.
Options menu.
...
Known Issues
I can't access the Options menu!
It's not working yet!
If the application below the game updates the screen, Touch The Music no longer recognizes touches or keystrokes
To be honest, I don't know why this happens but it will have to be fixed. Starting the game from the programs menu or the manilla programs tab minimizes this, as long as the messaging tab is not visible. (experimental fix in version 0.3)
The game does nothing!
This is a problem with some hidden GAPI calls I may be using... Try this fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532200
I have no Sound
If possible, change your ROM. If not, try the latest version and tell me all the eventual error messages.
Multitouch isn't working, my device has got no multitouch support!
Multitouch for Touch the Music is entirely software-based. It should work on any phone without hardware multitouch (yeah I know, mixed roles here).
If it doesn't on yours, try the latest version out and send me your log.txt
How can I make my own track levels?
I recommend using a program like audacity to open the mp3 file. Then, check the timing of the notes and write them in a text file as such:
<note type> <time>
Time can be absolute (i.e. 3000 = 3 seconds since beginning of the song) or relative (i.e. +1000 = 1 second since PREVIOUS NOTE). Please put in an absolute note for reference once in a while.
Note types can be:
L - left
M - middle
R - right
< - L + M
> - M + R
v - L + R
So for example, a simple music could be:
# This is a comment
# Intro of simple music
L 2000
R +200
M +300
R +200
< 5000
> +500
# Chorus. Note the absolute timing for reference
R 7000
L +200
R +200
M +300
etc......
Always remember, higher pitch (acute) notes should be on the right. I can't tell you enough to look at the track1.txt in the tracks folder of the game, to understand what I just said.
When you want to test it, convert your mp3 to aac and save it in the tracks folder as well as the txt with the notes script. Rename them both to track1.aac and track1.txt.
Thank you all for your time and especially the users who are contributing with testing, ideas or just kind words, you are all that makes this project possible.

Digital Tv Tuner?

Anyone know if this is possible?
Basically I want to watch live tv on my xoom. I want to pull the signal straight from the airwaves and not use 3g or wifi etc. Anyone know any device that would do this for me? Basically something I could just plug-in and be able to watch live tv?
First, you'll need a tuner (mini PCI-E or USB) Then you'll need drivers to use that tuner, possible that a major tuner mfg could write them but then Google or a dev will need to build them into a distro. Finally, you need an app that can interpret the data received from the tuner.
The likelihood of all of these things coming together is unlikely due to the small market for such a tuner. I, personally, would love it.
TV on Xoom
I realize this is not the config you are looking for, but I purchased a DVR like box called a Vulkano made by Monsoon and basically it goes between your TV and the Cable box (and to your router). It then provides a feed to an app for android (free and/or paid) and tt literally controls your cable box remotely, and you can watch live TV, your saved shows, setup recordings, record to your device, etc.
I've tested on my Evo, Xoom, and A7, which all work.
However, the recent update to 3.1 caused the Xoom version to not work anymore, but the developers said a fix is coming soon.
While I was on 3.0 the HD channels on the Xoom were F-ing sweet!
The box was about $150, but there are multiple versions, and I bought this on a whim hoping it would just do DVR type functions, but went well beyond that.
I've run it over wifi, 3g, and tethered to 3g, and all have worked very well.
Again, maybe not the config you want, but this is nothing short of AWESOME!!
isnt that kind of like "slingbox" and how did you get it to work with 3g?
TV on Xoom
Pretty much exactly like Slingbox (I think, never used it), just cheaper and they have a free App for Android and Apple. There's a paid App version, but didn't bother since the freebie worked good for me. I use it on my Evo and eLocity A7 all the time via 3g and/or Tether. And until the HC 3.1 update I was able to use it on my Xoom via 3g. If you get a good signal or go wifi it will stream in HD, and looks killer on the Xoom. But alas, the developer needs to update it for HC 3.1, impatiently waiting for that!
Also I found that if you record thru the App, it stores it locally on whatever device you are using. I often use it on my PC, and then save it to my NAS drive for remote access later.
Like I said before, I was trying this out as a maybe option, and was totally stoked at what I got for $150, I think the slingbox doesn't quite do all this, and costs like twice as much for the Pro, and you still have to pay $25 for their App.
There is also 6 versions of the hardware to fit your budget and needs.
here you go, pick a channel and watch.

nice find. Not exactly what I was looking for.
I am looking for a dtv tuner that connects to the xoom. If anyone figures this out please post.
They had talked about a version of the Samsung Moment that would do this, not sure if it ever came state side or not. But that could take care of the tuner software side, then you would need a device and a driver, I remember having a winTV device at one point in time that worked in ubuntu with out any extra work...so there's definitely linux support for the type of device.

Live T.V
hey if there is any developers out there .. could you possibly try to get this to work for Xoom? I use to have an archos, and I was able to put live t.v on it .. but the system was modified for it, using URUKDROID.. I'm just wondering if we can just extract the drivers and use the T.V app that comes with this installation???

Theres a blank header inside my UK3G Xoom, I'd love to get TV on the go, either by sticking a card in or perhaps hardwiring something to a USB header inside the device?

I own an old dreambox 500. It can stream live satelite signal . Also videos,mp3, remote pvr.etc. it didnt cost me more than 60 dlls. Ita not illegal if you put your smart tv card in this reciever. I can watch my tv since android 2.1 via stream and my xoom can run them without delay. Im trying to buy a dm800 or dm500hd i hear the stream is much smooth

Does it have buttons mapped to the Menu, Home, Back, and Search keys?
OP - I hope Tiger Direct accepts returns, because they overcharged you, BIG TIME. Get it from Amazon instead for less then half http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846
I have one from dealextreme (brand name Rii)
I'm using it when I'm connected to the work via Juniper SSLVPN. And I have a cheepo Galaxy Note mini holder... (from ebay, below $3) awesome
Meethere - The keyboard like this is great for business presentations. Connect the phone to hdmi and control from a distance. It has a laser pointer as well. I won't use it often but it will be very handy when I need it.
Xetaray - There are buttons mapped to menu, back and home. I never tried to find one for search. I will connect it again later and tell you.
Anymal - Amazon is cheaper, yeah, but shipping, and customs import duty and customs brokerage. Everyone on these forums is not in the USA. It was a spur of the moment purchase for a different device and I am sure $90 isn't going to make any difference to me. If I was going to go return it and then reorder, how much is my time worth? More than that. But thanks for pointing it out, very nice of you.

Did you allow installation from external sources in Settings -> Applications?
If so, did you also reboot and enable the keyboard under Settings -> Languages & Keyboards?

I don't have that keyboard, but I have a similar foldable with an integrated stand that only cost 1/4 of the iGo. That is a ridiculous price for a phone accessory. I'm sure you can find it for a lot less from other sources than Amazon.

I'm on ICS. I have unknown sources checked under "Security" in Settings. The Bluetooth Keyboard isn't showing up with the others under "Languages and Input".
It still keeps giving the same error message. I open the driver app, it says to authenticate, and the error message comes up immediately...as if it didn't even try to connect to Ultra's servers.

Without doin anything else, make your keyboard discoverable, go into Settings -> Wireless -> Bluetooth settings and do a Search for Bluetooth Devices. Make sure the keyboard is showing and then do a pairing.
After that set you keyboard to the phone's standard keyboard, go into a note taking (or Messenger) application, start to write with the on screen keyboard. If that works then try to write with the Bluetooth keyboard. If that doesn't work, tap on the screen until the inset cursor (usually with a blue arrow) appears, pusch Ctrl+Shift and then try to type. Shouldn't that work try Ctrl+Space instead.

Setting up the RemoteDroid server on your PC
Here are the steps for downloading and running the RemoteDroid server software on your PC. Before you begin you must already have a wireless home network already setup. You will also need Java SE Runtime Environment 1.5 or higher. Last but not least you will of course need a phone running the Android OS.
Go to http://www.remotedroid.net and download the latest RemoteDroid server zip file.
Extract the downloaded zip file to a folder on your PC. (example: C:\remotedroid)
Now open the location to which you extracted the zip file and run the file RemoteDroidServer.jar
The IP address of the PC RemoteDroidServer is running on will be displayed in the window you have just opened. Remember this IP as you will need it later in this guide.
Setting up the RemoteDroid app on your Android device
Now that you have downloaded and ran the RemoteDroidServer.jar file on the PC that you want to control it is time to configure RemoteDroid on your phone.
Go to the Android Market
Search for the RemoteDroid app, download it, and install it on your phone
Open the RemoteDroid app that you just installed
Enter the IP address of the PC you want to control (This will be the IP from Step 4 above)
Tap Connect
That is it! The large red square on your phone is the mouse capture box, the left green box acts as the left mouse button, the right green box acts as the right mouse button, and the keyboard icon between the green boxes brings up the keyboard input window to allow you to type on your PC.
Enjoy your new wireless mouse and keyboard.

Do you think it's possible to have an app with this features which works in 3G/data? In other words which don't only work in Wifi.
Connection would be made with a QR code flashed on the phone from a java programm or a website on the computeur.
I don't say ‘this app must exist' but i ask myself if this network connection is possible
Thx

this app is very useful when connecting desktop/laptop to tv and control it.. no wireless mouse/keyboard required.. multitouch also works for scrolling up/down web pages, only its missing pinch to zoom function..
thanks op from sharing
Just what I was looking for.
I was gonna buy a mini Bluetooth keyboard for my PC but this does everything and more. I actually found it by accident when Slashdot did an article on 'Droidmote' running on an MK802. Never did get Droidmote working. I found I had to turn off predictive text to get the keyboard working but that's no biggie.
The only thing I could wish for would be calibration for the touchpad or, better yet, ballistics (fast swipe for large movements and slow swipe for fine movements) so I'm off to the developer's website to suggest it.
This was right on time. My logitech wireless key board died on me and this will work fine till I can get a replacement.
nice!!
this is a very nice app...
but the keyboard does not work...

A good mini BT keyboard with trackpad UK layout?

Have been struggling to find a decent mini keyboard with trackpad and UK layout. Anybody got good suggestions?
I'm waiting for this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/280894176961?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
I will let you know if its worth it. My main purpose it's to link the S3 with my TV by an MHL HDMI cable, and control it in the sofa.
Another alternative, if you want to use it with a mouse:

Or:

Another

Interesting, but a little pricey:

I didn't use any of the above. The second ones was a alternative that I considered.
Good luck.
Hi Bruno, the OP is looking for a UK layout keyboard, as am I. The ones you pointed to are all US layouts. The UK layout has the £ sign over the 3 rather than #. It also has an extra key to the left of Z for the \.
I too am looking for a reasonably priced UK layout keyboard but the only ones I've found are pricey. Probably because there are so few of them!

Thank for your replies guys. I ended up with the Logitech diNovo Mini UK layout. I also have a MHL HDMI cable in the post. Got a 64GB MicroSD in NTFS on the phone so main use is play music and films when I am out at friends' without having to carry my laptop or get up from the sofa every time I need to pause or something. Considered the Allshare Cast Dongle but I am using CM10 ROM so no Samsung apps and I would generic set ups so everything would still work when I upgrade in the future.
Using External Keyboard Helper Pro app I've assigned the Record key to Home, and left Windows key to Menu. ESC works as BACK anyway. All the media keys work. All the keys are mapped correctly. All the FN keys on the main keyboard works. Media Center key opens Apollo, Explorer goes to Home which have yet to figure out how to assign to Chrome, PC Power key turns screen off. The Zoom keys have been assigned but are not working. CTRL+ALT+DEL shuts phone off. Bonus of the app is you can set SHIFT/CTRL/ALT memory so you don't have to use both hands.
This is by no means a cheap set up but it has everything I need in a tiny and portable package.

Oh penis! That means I am going to have to back up all my apps and move to a Samsung based ROM... D'oh!
That's how I read it.
Wanted to get a Cyanogenmod ROM myself but after reading about the lack of MHL I'm not so sure anymore. After all I mainly used an CM ROM on my HD2 because of some of the functions that Samsung has in it's ROMs. I guess I can live with a rooted but otherwise stock SGS3.
All backed up! Going to give this Omega ROM a go:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663656
All the Samsung Apps are there so should work.
Wish me luck...
I would be kind of surprised if they could do what the CM team can't.
Would be nice though. The ROM sounds pretty interesting to me.
Keep me posted.
So far I can confirm exFAT works on it (had to use NTFS work round on CM), all Samsung apps are present including Allshare. I have read reports that it works although my cable has yet to arrive so will let you know when that arrives.
I can confirm that everything works on Omega ROM as intended. Although the phone charger doesn't have enough juice to run the cable so a more powerful charger is needed.
Allshare Cast Dongle also works perfectly. I am able to stream 1080p with no lag. I also have a NAS, streaming from NAS to TV via phone I managed 720p with no lag. I will have to do some serious tweaking to see if I can get 1080p to run smoothly from the NAS.
