[Q] Zagg Invisibleshield caused water damage... - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
Just want to warn you guys for the InvisibleShield! I know that when applied correctly it is probably a very satisfying product, but when not applied carefully you can get screwed up by it... Last night I applied an invisibleshield to my Desire HD and guess what, I got water under the screen... Seriously I don't understand how it's possible, but I guess that the bezel around the screen (the transition from the glass to the back) somehow let's water through as the water damage is not in the obvious spots near the volume buttons or anything. The water damage is on the right side of the phone.
First thing I did was taking the screen protector off and threw it in the bin... Did not like the feel of it anyway! The phone is currently sitting in a sealed zip-loc with rice. Sure hope my phone is going to be back to normal as I wouldn't know how to get this fixed.
Anyone else experiencing this problem? And if so, how did you get the water out of your phone/screen?
,Jordy

Wait a minute - this screen protector requires WATER? I must be well out of date because that is news to me. Sounds utterly bananas.

Yeah, they call it "Application solution", which is probably just water and soap from what I read about it.

Screen is coming out of the body...any help plz

Hi,
Bet no one else is having the same problem.
I might post a pic later for clarification but ayway.
I got a TouchPRo2 in late march as a replacement for my touch pro that they were repairing butt due to water damage at their company it was a Total loss..
I could opt for money or a replacement, and they had a demo model of the TP2 which had 'slight user damage but they could not find it themselfs' .
When it came in, the device was perfect without scratches or dents.
The only thing i noticed was a very slight moving of the screen when pressing in the top left corner.
It has degenerated to a point where i saw dirt forming under the front camera lens, and i put a train ticket in between to remove the dirt, and noticed the screen without any effort is coming out for 50%.
I'm thinking the glue on the back of the screen is worn out/off by heat or something.
The problem is i don't even know if its supposed to be glued to the backside or not, and in what way? Obviously the company who i got it from is not replying to -mails now
Any suggestions?
I'll post pics later
Thanks!

[Q] water damage?

Hey, i've been searching the internets for info on possible water damage on the g2 and this is the only site i've found so far.
A couple of days ago, I got one of the Zagg InvisiShields for my G2 and put it on. The next day, I noticed some lines/darkened portions of the screen/slight discolorations and I'm not sure what exactly caused it. I read on one of the threads that it could possibly be an air pocket in the digitizer, but I still think it may be liquid damage. I've tried the rice (even got some of that silica dessicant) for over a day and it hasn't gotten any better. Assuming that the G2 water indicators are similar to all the other droids (white or crosshatched when dry) my phone is clean in terms of getting dunked.
Anyone have any ideas? I was just starting to get used to my G2 too Just switched over from the iPhone
Pictures may help, since we really can't imagine what your screen may look like.
Have you tried taking off the protector and re-applying? They have a lifetime warranty and can be relpaced.
And water indicators are all pretty much the same. White is good, red or pink show that they have been exposed to water or moisture.
Yeah, first thing you should try is removing the screen protector...a little dust, moisture, finger prints, etc could be the culprit. Hope that is the case.

how to open the display?

Hi everyone,
yesterday my xperia play had a water damage. Today when i tried to start it again (which didnt work yesterday) it started without problems - phew, sooo lucky. But anyway, my display now has like traces of water underneath which means the screen is darker at the corners. I think if i could remove the upper part of the display i could clean it and it would be as good as new.
But I dont know how? Do you guys have any idea how to disassamble the screen?
The only video that seems to be available is this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3n5ZfkqhzE&feature=youtube_gdata_player

If you're phone becomes submerged in water you should never try to turn it on (bit too late now) as that is what can cause immediate long-term damage. You should disassemble as much as you can (case/battery etc), remove any excess water and then put it in a tub of rice (or Silica gel if you have some handy) for as long as possible (up to 3 days recommended).
That youtube video posted by danlivesey is good (although might want to mute it) and there's a picture guide here: http://www.repairyourmobile.net/sony-ericsson-disassembly/sony-ericsson-xperia-play-disassembly/
guys, thanks for all the tips.
But guess what: all is fine now! I didnt do anything and the traces of water beneath the glas are gone now! The wonders of physics.
Pretty cool that my phone works like before after being completely in water for a few seconds (although my aegis trident case helped holding a little bit of the water off).

Samsung Galaxy S 3 screen defect

Ok, I just bought a Samsung Galaxy S III 12 days ago. I have had may phones and NEVER had any physical damage. I dropped it from about 2 ft. The phone landed flat on its back and the phone is DESTROYED! The glass shattered in the top left and bottom right corners and there is cracks from corner to corner. The actual screen doesn't display, the back light is broken and even the Bluetooth module is acting up (now cuts in and out). I feel like the phone should have survived the fall and upon quick searches am finding lots of ppl with screen cracking easily. I called sprint and Samsung and neither would assist. I mentioned all of the reports online and they acted like they never heard of any issues. There are reports of others sliding out of their pockets while laying on the ground(looking under car) and falling a few inches and shattering. So I want to attempt to round the guys up on this one- anyone who is having issues with the SGS3 screen cracking or overall weak please post their experience here. Mine did not even have any scratches from the fall or signs of physical damage. After I talked to sprint and samsung the phone took some additional "falls" but I am posting a pic. The upper left and bottom right spiderwebs are the original damage.

Seems to be just a problem with the blue one. If you bought it 12 days ago, you could try some solution to make the screen look non-cracked (is it even possible?). Then you can bring it in for a return.
Unethical? Maybe. Illegal? Actually, I'm not sure. As long as you dont get caught...

Ha yea i already claimed insurance on it, cant go 2 days w/o a phone ya no...
I dropped my phone one time. I hope I never do it again and feel sorry for anyone who does do it.
Gorilla GLASS. Its not shatter proof. Its scratch resistant. Think about how thin the phone is? How the screen goes right to the bezel? How the glass is curved? The phone itself doesn't offer much protection between ground and glass when dropped.
Drop a glass cup from 2 feet, sometimes you'll get lucky and it not break or crack but chances are it'll crack or shatter.

I had my phone in my lap and dropped the phone when I got out of the car onto the concrete floor.i almost had a heart attack. But to my surprise it did not break. I have a TPU case protecting it. Guess I was lucky this time.
I know this might sound harsh but its probably what most people are thinking...... put a case on it. Its an investment and you should always protect your investments

I have a blue one and I dropped it onto asphalt from 3-4 feet and not one crack or ding. Incipio case and a screen protector saved the day.
stop lying and the steps to phone ownership
first, i'm sorry your phone is broken. you will have to get a new one thru insurance unless god is on your side.
second.. do you think we're *******s? Look at that screen. 2 feet you said? did you drop it on to diamonds?
2 feet and my phone exploded is cute but try 1....4 feet and my phone broke and then i got mad and threw it 50 feet.
that story wont work. youre better off being good on the phone and hoping htey hook it up than tryign to tell them that something is wrong with yoru galaxy and it explodes when dropped.
buying and owning a phone:
1. choose, buy, pay for, acquire phone.
2. open box and remove from packaging.
3. PUT A NICE ASS SCREEN PROTECTOR (roughly invisishield quality) ON PHONE
4. PUT A ****ING CASE ON IT
5. havinjg done the most obvious things to do, consider putting money in a green mutual fund.
that nice screen protector is so key. someting a few mils thick to not only prevent scratches but absorb impact.

From light scratches yes. But not if you take keys or something similar and scratch it like your cutting a steak.
Thing about glass you have to have something harder then the glass to scratch it. Hence why diamonds scratch just about anything.

ok douchwad- do you think this is my first phone ever? Do you think im 12 y. o.? I have many phones- never have i seen the entire phone get destroyed when it lands flat on its back in the grass. I feel like there is possibly a manufacturing issue since a quick google search yeilds several ppl saying close to the same thing. You can believe that I chucked my phone across the room or that I spiked it on concrete or whatever. Bottom line I dont need to hear from a**bags that want to doubt what happened or explain that glass cracks. I want to hear from others that have had similar issues.
I feel like if a small fall is going to destroy a phone there should at least be a scratch on the surface that if fell on. I could understand a cracked screen but damage to this extent is a bit excessive for a fall in grass! There are reports of others screens getting cracked by pushing the power button! So if you want to call me a liar or whatever then please just keep it to yourself and move to the next forum.

Agreed. Original Gorilla Glass was a much better product. Last phone was a year old. No case or screen protector, always in a pocket with keys and change, my clumsy ass dropped it all the time. It never had a scratch, the bezel was basically destroyed from dropping though. It finally met its match when it found the corner of a poured concrete step.
My first day with this phone it got a deep scratch in my pocket. Back to a case and screen protector... At least the black and white ballistic case looks awesome.

Come on give him some credit. He used "a**bags" so he must obviously be13
People can complain all they want about gorilla glass but it's still glass and should be treated as such. Maybe some King Kong glass is what people need.
If I understand correctly (and it is possible that I do not) you dropped a phone, that was in a case, two feet into the grass and this is the damage that occurred?
No offense but you are asking people to suspend disbelief to a rather illogical level.
There's no way u could of gotten the scratches on the back of the phone with a case on it my friend..... I call BS

Cracked screen

Anybody else has a cracked screen on their GS4? mine developed a hairline crack across the middle within a week of me having it. and it wasn't from a drop or anything like that. i just happened to be looking at the screen and thought there was a hair on it. tried to flick it away and realized it was a crack. Tmobile wants me to pay for the repair or replacement because they think it was accidental damage. my point is, how can this phone possibly be this fragile? just putting it in your pocket might be enough to break the screen. this can't be right.

This phone got a lower rating on durability than the iPhone 5. That being said, had the phone for 8 days, just had finished rooting and installing the wicked ROM (very nice ROM kudos). Going in pocket for keys drop the phone, here are the details:
Phone:
Tmo Samsung Galaxy S4 (White)
Case:
Samsung Galaxy S IV D3O® Leather Flip Cover - Black
Hard shell back with soft touch feel, leather cover that flips closed to protect your screen
Made with military grade D3O® intelligent technology
D3O® molecules lock together to absorb shock
Fall Height/Floor type:
3-4 ft. / Concrete
Angle of impact:
Initial impact was on the bottom left corner.
Secondary impact was top Left corner
End position was face down.
Case was still on the phone
Phone Results:
Very fine shattering on the bottom 1/4 of the phone with one bottom to top crack from initial impact.
Secondary impact created another light cluster of cracks from left to right in the middle of screen.
Case Results:
Two of the sides broke off on impact instantly causing the phone to absorb most of the force.:crying:
Knowledge gained:
Phone is fragile as hell... Military Grade cases (as stated by the case details) are crap...Buy an Otterbox.
And yes, do be careful when putting it in your pocket... regardless of tightness or fully loaded wallet.
+1 to Otter Box. (Look on OB's website or Amazoon BTW, don't waste your time looking on Tmo.)

+1. Have had it about a week. Never dropped it. Have a Spigen Neo Hybrid case on it. I noticed a crack starting on the top right side right above the camera and it extends all the way to the left finishing off where the volume up button is. I don't get it. I take very good care of my devices.

same here. I have a case and screen protector on it, and i take very good care of my devices. I can't believe just fragile this phone is.
started a similar threads few days after received it May 4th and 5th. I was in the bathroom giving my son a bath and I was on my knees near a bath mat that was about 3 inches thick shag carpet not only did the phone drop barely a foot and a half it landed on the corner on a soft surface and the peace of the bezel peeled off, the silver part on topholding the screen glass not the side bezel.
I mean come on... 18 inches off ground on to 3inch thick softtt threaded shag bath mat..
. No real crack. BUT just like everyone else tmobile said I had to pay 175.00 deductible because I damaged it..
if we show them this thread of multiple users with Similar problems, do you think they might get thats its not us?
I dropped my phone face-down this afternoon about 18 inches with a $3 case (made by BoxWave) and it doesn't have a scratch on it.
I think it's a temperamental thing where it depends on the angle, velocity, etc of the phone.
Regarding the hairline crack, couldn't T-Mo see that there were no other impacts around the actual phone? This definitely sounds like a defect more than something you caused...

I did take it back to the store to show them the phone, and its obvious that the phone was never dropped. There is no damage anywhere on the phone and the crack is a clean break. I might have to send it back to Samsung or something.
