Hi guys,
When I'm calling with my Desire HD there is pause button on screen and I accidentally touch the button which causes breaks in calls. Is there any way to change the default phoning app? I've tried GO Contacts, but it changes only managing contacts app. I'm using Cyanogen Mod 7 if this is revelant.
Hmm it seems you have a problem with your proximity sensor... Is the screen turning off when you talk on the phone?
The normal behaviour is that the screen turns off (from the proximity sensor action) when you put your phone next to your ear.
If that's the case, you can either try using Proximity sensor calibrate http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=951858 or contact your dealer for a repair.
You can also switch off the screen with the power button after starting a call, this should lock your screen as well.
Lastly, if you really hate your current screen and you feel adventurous, you can try flashing an AOSP Rom like MIUI (but that's a long story xD)
Hope that might help.

Hi all,
Is there anyway to disable the proximity sensor while on the phone?
When my 4 year old daughter uses the phone, she doesn't always hold it on her ear and the screen will go on and off and her face ends up pressing buttons and hangs up on whomever she's talking to.
I tried pressing the power button to turn the screen off, but once you touch the proximity sensor the screeen comes back on.
I'm using the stock Sprint ROM. Please help this is the most annoying feature of this phone.
Thanks i advance

i saw that option in advanced config tools, if im not wrong
Nope, i just installed it and checked. It's not in there. Thanks for the suggestion though.
any other ideas?
S2U2 can turn off the screen on a call, haven't tried it on the TP2/Tilt 2 yet though as I personally like the proximity sensor, although sometimes I find it doesn't work.
FYI, when I let my 4yo use my Tilt 2 it's in speakerphone..
TouchLockPro
You can try TouchLockPro, it has a built in InCallTweak, using the GSensor.
Hi,
i got my Desire rootet ( S-OFF, Clockworkmod 3.0.5, PirateRum ( based on Cyanogenmod 7 nightly )
my hboot is: 0.93.001
PVT1.
SLCD
Now.
If anyone call me, the screen goes black, normally.
If my partner ends the call, the screen wont wake up from this "sleep" mode.
If i type the power button the buttons for search and home become bright...
I think its a bug with the SLCD Screen... anyone got this problems to?
Dude,
The desire has a proximity sensor, so when you answer a call and put it by your ear, it switches off the screen.
Perhaps there is a bit of a bug in that rom, so it forgets to switch the screen back on when the call ends.
I highly doubt its a hardware issue.

Sometimes it works, sometime it dont works.
This Desire is 2 Weeks old... Very sick. but thanks

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem with my Desire SLCD, i tried to go back to stock RUU but nothing changed
If someone got a solution.
Hey Hey i have the solution!
I fixed the problem of blank screen by cleaning dust between screen and earpiece (especially at left, where is the proximity sensor).
You can clean it like me with an air duster spay or/and with a vacuum cleaner
It works well now!!!
Enjoy!!!
how to?
i am interested
guys, check pls in what type of network screen stays black 3g or gsm,
this issue is after call only or in regular use from time to time?
this is know problem on desire, there can be falutly mobo, if your screen dont react and stays black - only battery unplug helps and this happends when your phone trying to switch between network GSM to 3G/HSDPA or from 3g to gsm
was having this issue long time + self rebooting and sent by desire to repair, they replacing mobo and know everything work fine for me,
proximity senzor works good in many cases, you can download apps to test you sensors if the proximity sensor react correctly and changing values then is not broken and pro problem is elsewhere,
face this problem on my SLi9003 and no one answer my question
This worked for me…. Finally

I'm having the same problem on my Atrix HD. This fixed it. There's an Xposed module called App Settings. If you don't know what it is Google it. I looked up my phone app, dialer app and com.android.incallui in the App Setings module and selected the setting 'Show when locked'. ( you must click the little floppy disk icon to save the setting) this shows the phone and dialer ui's o er the lock screen, but still allows the proximity sensor to turn the screen off when it's to my head
Hi,
as measured by Z-DeviceTest, the proximity sensor on my Desire is stuck at 0.000 cm in all lighting conditions (including a very bright torch right on top of it).
At first I suspected this was the known problem with dust settling on the sensor, but I've blown and sucked (teh-eh) with everything I have, from every angle, and the sensor is still stuck at that value.
The problem shows up both in CM7 and with the stock firmware.
I have to assume the sensor is broken.
I'm looking for ways to disable the proximity sensor, and in particular to stop it from locking the screen during calls. Naturally, since the sensor is stuck at 0.0000 cm, any time a call is initiated the screen locks up, preventing me from ending the call, dialing tones and so on.
Alternatively, I'd be happy with a way to override the screen lock via hardware buttons. The power\unlock button doesn't work
Inserting a headset during a call does unlock the screen, but naturally this is not a satisfying solution (for example, I can't use this method to make calls while driving, using the speaker).
Solutions tried with no positive effect:
- editing build.prop with "ro.proximity.delay=0"
- using trackball\volume button wake
- using screebl, screen off to control automatic screen locks
Thank you for your time.
Anyone have any pointers?
Is it really hopeless?
Are you root? If so have you considered flashing a rom with the option to disable the proximity sensor? (for example miui-au has that option)
Yes, I have a rooted device. I didn't know miui had that options, I'll check it out; thank you!
Since earlier today I started experiencing problems on my HTC Desire with the proximity sensor. For those that does not know, the proximity sensor switches the screen off when you receive or make a call and places the phone against your ear. When the call is completed and you remove the phone from your ear, the screen become active again.
In my case the moment I make or receive a call, the screen gets disabled. I do not even have to put the phone against my ear. It also means that the touchscreen is disabled and all buttons are disabled which means I cannot end the call, switch on the speaker or enable the keypad. None of the buttons, even the power one works. When the call gets ended by the other party the the screen will be enabled again. The only way to get a working phone again when there is nobody on the other side to end the call is to remove the battery.
What I also find weird is where the sensor should be, top left next to the HTC logo, is nothing. Does not matter how I look at it, there is just the black strip.
I have searched to see if there is some app that can disable the proximity sensor since I do not really need it but have found nothing. So if anybody knows of an app that can disable the proximity sensor then I would appreciate the link. If you have any other suggestions, please comment below.
Can't you enable your screen by the power button?
No i can`t

I just installed CM7on my phone and the power button works.
My first suggestion would have been to test if and how the proximity sensor works, for example with this app:
play. google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tigermonster.proxfinder
Otherwise, for just disabling the sensor there should be another app (which however requires root):
play. google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hatcyl.android.Hardware_Disabler
(you have to remove the space in the link because as a new user I'm not allowed to post links... they don't like new users here, right?)
A bad kernel flash can cause it... flash another kernel according to the android version and rom you are using.. If cm7 and android 2.3.7 then snq- 's kernel would be nice .. if on ICS then I recommend tiamat's kernel..

Same Problem
I had the same problem, I found it was the cover I had on my phone that prevented the phone to go back on during a call.
This is a problem related to the proximity sensor. It's something very hard to clean so I just disabled turn off screen during calls option. Just go to your dialer press menu button then click call settings you should see turn of screen calls option, disable it.
Your cheek probably touch to screen and press random buttons when you're on the phone so remember to turn off your screen by on off button so you dont touch buttons with your cheek.
Hope that solves your problem
edit: I found that sometimes blowing through the speaker makes proximity sensor work correctly for a while. It's not a practical solution though.

Thanks for the information everyone! I busted the screen a few months ago and assume that's whats causing it. I just didn't think that was it because it hadn't been a problem until well after I busted it. Ill disable this option and that will take care of it for my needs.
