Need some Tasker help, please - G2 and Desire Z Themes and Apps

Hey guys, just bought Tasker and would like to achieve something.
Each time I turn off the screen, I would like either the phone to switch to 2g, or completely kill data connections (preferably 2G). When I turn the screen on, I would like for it to switch back to 3g/hspa.
How can I achieve this? Thanks for any help!

Something like this should get you started:
New profile: Event -> Display -> Display off
Task: Net -> Mobile data (or Mobile data 2G/3g) -> Off

Wifi Goes To Sleep

Hello.
I just got an O2 XDA IIs for Christmas. Great bit of kit, but there is one annoyance I'm having at the moment which maybe someone can shed some light on.
When I turn the device on I connect to my Wifi network and the net connection is working fine, but if I leave it for more than a few minutes without using the connection then it seems to lose connectivity. Browsing to a page in PocketIE produces a "This page cannot be found" error. The only solution is to disable/enable the wifi connection or turn off/on the device to get the connection back.
I should mention that the device has been upgraded to the latest UK O2 rom 1.40. and that power saving settings for WiFi is set to the minimum.
Does anyone have any hints to stop this happening?
Thanks, David.
Although I think the powersaving setting isn't related, try setting to to Medium. I think I used to do this when I first got my BA.
Other than that, are you leaving your BA device completely? It could be entering sleep mode? Do you have to set your network (Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Connections -> Advanced -> Select network) when you turn on the Wifi? If yes, then set it again while it is off.
And could it be your Wifi access point dropping idle connections? Is it new? first try? or you've been using it from before?
Apart from all that, I'd suggest that you switch to i-mate 1.40 ROM or T-Mobile 1.42. Customize the device as you wish. Many people don't like the O2 customizations since they slow down the PPC.

Turning the data connection on or off

Hi,
If I read the HTC Desire manual page 128:
Code:
[B][U]Turning the data connection on or off[/U][/B]
...
Press HOME > MENU and then tap Settings > Wireless & networks.
Select the Mobile network check box to turn on the data connection; clear the check box
to turn off the data connection.
We can simply check/uncheck the above option to turn on or off the data connection.
Did you get any problem for turning it back on (from off) ???
Because I read the old HTC Hero (which has this option as well) has problem with this.
When you turn off data, and turn it on again, the phone cannot use data connection unless you soft-reboot.

No probs with mine
I've used this method since last Saturday, saves so much battery on my Desire and when I want the net, I can turn it back on easily enough or if at home just use Wi-Fi.
No problems getting it to turn back on again.
Does this mean I'll have to manually turn data off if I want to use wifi?
Reason why I ask is because I checked my net counter and all my data has come from the data (3G) portion of my phone whilst nothing via wifi.
Probably me being a bit naive as I thought once wifi was on the phone would know to use that automatically as opposed to 3G...
EDIT: Just had a look on my phone and under settings --> wireless and network --> mobile network (uses phone for data connection when wi-fi unavailable) is checked...so would I be correct in assuming that when wi-fi is available data won't be used??
and in Mobile Network Settings --> enable always-on mobile data (uses more power on some mobile networks) is checked (could this be the culprit?)...
Thanks for your feedback, that is certainly a good news.
Btw, does HTC provide a small widget to toggle this easily?
Or you must go through the settings -> Wireless Network -> ... ?

there is a widget you can add on your screen to do this (and others) goto widgets then scroll to settings hit the arrow on the right and you get several icons you can drop
airplane mode
bluetooth
gps
mobile network (data)
wifi
Press and hold the power button, it's an option on the quick list.

Desire volume / data connection problems

Hi,
This is my first post around here..caused by switching 2 android
Please let me know if there is a solution to the following main problems / situations I encountered during the first 2 days with this phone:
1) Ring volume MUCH to low even when set to max (maybe it's the european volume limiter thing - how to remove it?)
2) I have to manually start/stop the data connection (mobile or wifi) in order to surf on the net, retrieve e-mail a.s.o. Also, the apps that automatically sync don't work, unless I enable the data connection. Isn't there a way to configure them to connect / disconnect alone (like, for example, nokias do) ?
3) Is there an alternate view for sms ? For example, a view that's sorted by receive time/date = standard, not threaded
I've upgraded Nokia N85 -> HTC Desire. The up-mentioned issues make me to seriousely think about returning the phone, allthough I generally like it. The desire is unlocked, latest firmware.
Thanks in advance,
Alex
On point 2, if you go to settings, wireless and networks, Mobile networks - is Enable Always On Checked? If not - I'm stuck.
I tried playing with that setting, but it didn't work. The mobile data connection remained active untill I manually disabled it.

[Q] Deactivating data with Launcher Pro

Hey
As my DHD seems to drink battery power, Ive found by disabling data (using the HTC sense widget), it lasts alot longer. (When I say data, I mean Edge/3G)
But recently when I swapped to Launcher Pro, I seemed to have lost that widget and functionality.
SwitcherPro doesnt seem to have the ability to disable data completely.
Dazzle does have it. But everytime I disable the WIFI, it seems to enable data, which I then have to disable again.
Im about to go on holiday abroard, so Id like to be able to control when my data is turned on and off.
Can anyone offer up what they do, and how they cope?
Thanks
Luca
go in to network settings and you should beable to turn it off.
if you select "mobile network" and it should have the heading under that

Mobile data turns on when wifi turns off?

I've noticed that whenever I turn off my wifi connection, the mobile data connection automatically turns itself on. This is quite annoying as I usually have it turned off to conserve battery.
Is there any way to disable this?
Thanks in advance.
No as the Desire is a smart phone which always needs a connection to the Internet to update - it's working as designed
Well if the user specifically wants to turns off the APN connection and keep it off until manually turned on, I don't see why that's such a big ask. I only want to have control of my phone, not the other way around.
I use Honolulu Team's Extended Controls to switch both wi-fi and mobile data off when not required.

I also use this, but if I have wifi turned on for example (with mobile data turned off prior), when I turn off the wifi the mobile data immediately activates without my say so.
There must be some way to disable this automatic connecting.
