[Q] No Lockscreen Icons - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all, new to the forum here, but im having an issue that i have no idea how to fix; i rooted my HTC desire last night and was successful, but whenever i go to flash a ROM onto my phone via clockworkmod (i have tried many times with different ROM's) the lockscreen of the OS pops up, but i only get the bar at the top with a clock, signal bars and on one OS the data connection indicator as well. The background is there, and it rings and shows missed calls, but there are no icons at all on the screen. Any advice on what to do? I used unrevoked and I'm not sure if i have to install some kind of partition or not, maybe that's affecting it?

Please use normal fonts.
Please describe your setup.
Please describe your SD setup.
Please state which ROM are you trying to flash.

Did you try to install the rom with the ClockworkMod (I guess you have got that one ) and not with the rom manager?
Maybe you have to install the rom again. But before that you have to wipe the device. You can backup it before that procedure.

[Q] Misc. Questions, Flashing to Ginger help

Thanks for taking your time and helping me, I saw you guys(and girls) have done some pretty amazing things here at XDA. I just need some help with getting this Gingerbread ROM to work.
I'm using Supersonic 2.2.1 first off, and using the alter. recovery rom from Rom Manager.
Ok, so I rooted my phone using rEVOked and chose a ROM called Bc-Gingerbread-beta4. I'm not sure of the eact title used, but if anyones faimilar with Gingerbread ROMS, they should know what that is... It was on the EVO ROM page.
So at first, I was using ClockWorkMod Recovery (2.6.*) to try and install the ROM. I eneded up with status 7 ever time, so I tried to upgrade to 3.0.* (newest one) and recieved a error about not being able to flash. No details were given.
I tried flashing to the alternate recovery, and it worked. From their, i (un?)successfully installed the ROM according to the recovery application.
The status bar didn't move past the halfway mark, but i figured it was just how it worked..
Then, I tried to boot into the new ROM. I was on the HTC screen for about 3~5 minutes, then it showed me the android load screen instead of the usual Sprint/4G screen. From their, it was in a constant loop because every 3 to 4 seconds, it would take off the android logo, then place it back. I waited approx. 10 minutes... Nothing. Unfortunetly, the alternate screen doesn't have the option to browse for your nandroid back ups (mine aren't in /android) So i'm left with a relativly bricked phone until I can find a working ROM.
I have a microsd card reader.. so I'm not too terribly screwed, I just need help on what I did wrong, how can I fix it (if im able to), and what Gingerbread ROM I should use. It needs to be relativly stable. I don't care about 4G support, even though its almost everywhere in Atlanta. I'd like to have video rec. if possible. and 8MP support.
If it fits those standards, please, I'd like to hear what the community thinks is a great Ginger ROM.
Also, I'm using Windows. I have the adb shell installed, and im familair with basic-medium level terminal commands.
Edit: I'm going to flash again, using cm_supersonic_18.zip. It says installing update, but it says flash zip from sdcard in the main menu...
Edit #2: apparently it's a Cyanogen mod (#7)
Just keeps looping the android on the skateboard screen... I'm going to figure out how to get back to the clockwork recovery console and -hopefully- get this thing working.

[Q] installing theme - getting green screen

Hello, well I'm trying to install this theme:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047796
However when I install it through recovery It doesn't install properly. The boot animation, font, lockscreen, status bar icons (bar signal and battery) all change how they are supposed to but if I switch over to my phone dialer I get a hidious bright livid green background which isn't meant to be there and I can't work out why.
What I did:
Downloaded Oceanis v 1.6 and installed zip. I didn't change any of the folders.
Suggestions? Cheers guys.
Also as a side note, would I be correct in saying now that if I make a backup with nandroid I can switch roms freely and just backup to a previous rom when I feel like a change?
I incredibly stupidly never backed up my stock rom and I really want to flash back to it and back it up so that I have a backup to stock incase the phone ever dies on me and needs to go back. Though I realise I'd have to unroot as well before I sent it back.

dammit wrong forum!
Noone got any ideas?

[Q]Desire Z keeps rebooting after few seconds on home screen

Hi,
I ve been through all this forum and the rest of the internet, but I couldnt find the answer ... so hopefully you will help me.
I have Desire Z - about 3 months old.
I ve rooted the phone and flashed to cyanogenmod 7.1 stable. All the time Ive followed guides here or on cyanogen section/wiki. CM has been running stable for a month maybe until today.
This morning I couldnt make a call - so I rebooted phone.
After reboot phone gets to the home screen and automatically reboots itself after 5 seconds.

I have everything installed on the other PC where Ill be on monday. Maybe Ill find some time to look through it tommorow.
Thank you now for pointing me somewhere - Ill add more info when I ll have it.
I had a similar problem after flashing new rom. My Desire Z was also rebooting after a few seconds.
I downloaded 1.34.707.3 firmware(used to downgrade Desire Z from gingerbread) from CM wiki, installed it through fastboot (step 8) , rooted my phone once again following the wiki and since then my phone is working without any problems.
Battery can be charged up while the phone is turned off.
well I flashed phone with the downgrading rom as you mentioned and it helped a little
- phone is running and not restarting after few seconds - but randomly after 5-60 seconds (so I am able to do at least something ))...
On monday I ll root that bi*ch again, pull there CM7 or some other ROM and post here actual status.
Thank you so far
Similar problem
Hi, I have the exact same problem with my Desire Z. I've attached the last_msg if someone could help me with that.. also, my sdcard is not partitioned so could that have anything to do with it? Thanks, hopefully I'll get an answer soon
Resurrecting a bit of an old thread here but I have just experienced these exact symptoms.
A friend gave me his old Desire-Z so of course I immediately set about rooting it and trying some ROMs.
As a start I went with the most recent Cyanogenmod which is 7.2 at this time. Everything was going smoothly and was just getting used to the phone and it's physical keyboard. My biggest worry was that the battery life wouldn't be good enough for me so I was running a test to see how long it would last. I am a very light phone user. With background wifi disabled, gps disabled and the phone set to 2G only it ran for 7days and 3 hours! No problems there even with a well used battery. When it eventually died I hit the power button to wake it and it started booting and then shutdown again as you would expect. However after I had fully charged it it booted no problems but then went into the boot loop described above. It boots successfully to the home screen but then after 10-15 seconds it reboots. Frustrating!
I tried some things:
Clear cache from CWM: No change
Factory reset from CWM: No change
Reflash CM7.2 from CWM: No change
Clear Dalvik Cache from CWM: No change
Clear Battery stats from CWM: No change. I was hopeful this might be the problem as the battery had been unusually flat, perhaps some flag had been set that caused the reboot.
I have now recovered by reflashing the exploitable original image, PC10IMG.zip, and then going back through the rooting process. I wouldn't want to have to do it again though.
Possible explainations for the behaviour: I was running a battery monitor app (GSam Battery Monitor) which runs continuously and has various power related functions. Though I would have thought anything that was doing would have been removed by factory reset or reflashing CM.
During the 7 days I was testing ROM manager prompted me to update it and then to update the version of CWM that I had. This is perhaps more likely as would have survived everything else I tried to recover until I reflashed the original recovery.
Hope that helps someone and if anyone has any insight on this I'd lobe to hear it.
Steve
Looks like I spoke too soon. First time I had to reboot the phone I got stuck in the reboot loop again.
Hmm, really confused now. No idea what can be causing this that isn't solved by reflashing CM7.2 but is by going back to the original rom?
Steve
the only thing, that helped me back then was to flash another ROM ... give it a try.
there is several other ROMs based on CM, I'm pretty sure, that you'll find one, that will suit you best.
Thanks for the reply I appreciate you taking the time.
It's very odd I can't think what might be causing this. I ran CM7.2 with zero issues for a week. Then first time I had to reboot it gets stuck in the loop.
Since I was away from home I could not get into recovery. I could get into HBoot (by holing Vol. Down + Power) but because I had a PC10IMG.zip file on my sdcard it would just go straight in to asking if I wanted to update from that with no way to select recovery. And of course I needed to have the sdcard in the phone to get an image from it!
So I have been running from the exploitable 2.2 Rom from the rooting procedure since. That can reboot no problems.
Today I tried a much more recent CM10.1 based rom - stuck in boot loop.
Then a tried the Rooted G2 stock ROM which is obviously much older. It booted correctly one time. Then I rebooted it (actually shutdown and then turned on, it doesn't have a reboot option) and now I'm stuck in the reboot loop.
I'm doing a factory reset and clearing the Dalvik cache after flashing each ROM.
I have also tried booting without the sdcard or SIM card, no change.
Something I have observed is that the phone will reboot once after flashing with every ROM, even the original ROM, but then either runs correctly or continuously reboots.
I can only think that possibly I have wrong phone model. I know that the previous owner bought this contract free so it may be some import. Perhaps it's actually a G2 and I'm using the wrong HBoot? I think that's unlikely as it would show an error during the rooting process.
Steve
I doubt you have the wrong hboot, it wouldn't even start if you did. I would do a complete wipe and format maybe change firmware as well. Backup SD and reformat that as well. If you have true radio soff (rooted via gfree) then you are safe to use one of the pc10img.zips I created here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27796375 (see post 30)
Make sure to remove it from SD this time or at least change the name when done
This will give you new engineering hboot, updated 4ext recovery, .19 radio but all can be changed to whatever if you want.
After the flash reformat all in recovery and flash a new rom
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Thanks for your input.
Updating the radio rom does seem tempting if potentially dangerous! The claimed power saving especially. I haven't ever used 4ext recovery but given how CWM seems to be failing me I might give it a try.
I don't wan to speak too soon here (but doing so anyway!) it looks like I may have corrected the problems by using SuperWipeG2+ from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044992
After running that, which can easily be done from CWM, the phone booted first time with no reboots.
I'll update this if that did not fix it.
Steve
Yep spoke too soon!
However I have found a way to reliably recover but it's not straight forward.
Boot to recovery. Run SuperWipeG2+.
Attempt to boot the phone, boot fails as there is no ROM installed. This step seems important.
Boot to recovery. Install ROM from zip and Gapps from zip.
Reboot and phone will boot successfully and stay booted!
I then have to recover all my contacts and apps from Google which takes a further 20/25 mins.
Having done that I still cannot reboot the phone. If I reboot (or shutdown and power on) it is then stuck ion the boot loop and I have to do that all over again!
This means I cannot ever allow the phone to go flat.
Aaarrgh!
Any suggestions? It has been suggested that installing another ROM could fix this. Any specific ROM? Any idea why that would work?
I have found that the light sensor doesn't seem to be working and the suggested fix for that is to install a Sense based ROM and then switch back. I can't see how that could work either.
Steve
Yeah I've heard the sense ROM thing works, I don't see how but people seem to swear by it. I would suggest you change all your firmware, new hboot, new radio, new recovery and what not a new ROM. There are lots of good ROMs to choose from so I wouldn't know what to recommend for you, personally I almost always use gingerbread based ones

A simple root ruined my day

Hello XDA-Forum
As of today this is my first day and post here.
As a noob ( I watched the video on reg, i found it funny yet noobfriendly D: ) i would like to ask some questions that the all-mighty search button could not find me, or atleast i could not find
I whacked my head all day searching for a way to root my HTC Wildfire S a520e running on 2.3.3 stock marvel s-off phone
and after by mistake factory reseting it, twice....
I finally managed to root it with OneClickRoot or something.
Then i tried to to what i originaly wanted to root for, Overclock.
But after downloading the rom i got from a youtube video, it f**ked me up good.
Now my phone is overclocked, but is slower. and the menu's are all glitchy and white and wrong.
I would like to ask how to return to the stock rom of 2.3.3 that i so much desire.
Meanwhile while i await your answears of joy, i am downloading Cyanogen 7.2 Rom that i found on the interwebs and should so-fit my tiddy little wildfire s.
Toodles.
I installed Cyanogen... and .... well i don't like it (Q_Q)!
i want my old 2.3.3 back (cry)
It feels slower, i don't like the UI
EDIT:
Now that i look at it again.. it's not that bad qq
but where's the android market/google play ?
You need to flash Google apps package from clockwork mod recovery:http://cmw.22aaf3.com/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip for market to work.
If you want to go back to stock, download a ruu installer for your region eg euro, Asia etc from here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074445
Install from a windows pc
As un-adaptable to new stuff i am and as much i hate change.
I find this cyano-genic blue colour to be semi attractive.
and i decided i'll keep it.
I read that cyanogen has built in overclocking.
Where can i see the hardware? i try'd in about settings but it doesn't say there.
For overclocking go:
Settings
Cyanogenmod
Performance
Cpu
I find this slightly more complicated than the normal android sense, but herpyderpderp atleast i'll be the only one in my class with a custom rom 8D
All the others are iOS/IceCreamSandwich richbishes D:
Is there something Cyanogen can't do that the original android stock can do?

hawp...
You might need to reflash.
Clear your data and dalvik in cwm
Flash cm7 latest nightly
Flash gapps
On first start take your time DONT press the android right away.
Give all background apps and SD time to load, maybe 30-60 seconds then press it and continue setup.
I have had that issue in the past.
Hope it helps you.
CM7 is a great rom, so customisable enjoy and make it your own.

I factory reseted.. i hate having to do that.....
it got stuck at cyanogen 7 loading boot, will this happen again if i use the thing you gave me for android?
damN! factory reset didn't fix it, how do i reflash when i deleted the file from the SDCard? now i can't put it back on the SDcard
EDIT: I got the file on again, but this software is way too fragile...
http://pockethacks.com/htc-wildfire-s-custom-rom-android-2-3-3-gingerbread/
Is that older or new'r ?
And can i get THAT interface on my now installed rom?
EDIT:
Stuck at HTC, still wown't load after re-flash
Did you wipe data and dalvik?
Its important you do!
Use this cm7, latest nightly build http://cm7-wildfire-s.googlecode.com/files/update-cm-7.2.0-RC1-marvel-03_29_2012.zip
I'm thinking of getting this http://code.google.com/p/cm9-wildfi...rc0-unofficial_rom-alpha0-signed.zip&can=2&q=
So far so good, it has minor problems i don't like
but what can i do -sigh-
there's an option called "Data Enable"
Does that take like money or anything?
also how can i use Voice Speech in this rom?
i wanna be able to talk on skype and it turns out as text
just as a question, could there be a problem during the installation, becouse the clock on the start seems to not be visible, it said some kind of error and i removed it from the screen. also it has 90mb free now
feels like first time i installed it it had like 110
THe clock on the lockscreen? You probably changed a setting. Or a clock widget? You probably deleted it. Just hold on the home screen and re add it form there.

Yes that worked, it wasn't deleted i guess.
I pretty much set up my phone overnight. (now my body hurts from exhausture)
I'm still haveing problems setting things up like voice to text on skype and other stuff.
Overclocking crashes my phone a lot. I know that happens but it happens like every 20 mins or something.
Also can i UPDATE from 7 to 9 without having to start over.
just update?
UPDATE: Also, i loose some files from sdcard (games installed) when it crashes when overclocked sometimes.
What the... i restarted my phone and all the stuff on SDCard is deinstalled, gone D:
EDIT: It came back after 5 mins
EEK!
I was putting some stuff on my SDCard when suddenly i open proccess list and on SC card it says No applications, 1.4 used, 431free but nothing QQ Hawp
all my icons are now with the android pic on them D: helppp
I'm starting to hate this already D:
Also my google play went back to market

[Q] problems with markphyton's stock ics

hi guys, i hope this is right, and makes sense, here goes:
i am trying to install markphyton's stock ics for xperia play from here , following all of the instructions, with the lupus kernel v8.
after several attempts, i did some extra searching, and decided to format the data, cache and system partitions prior to install, as well as wiping the dalvik cache, and the cache, and doing a factory reset in CWM recovery. then i installed the rom above, and then installed the wifi modules for the lupus kernel. then i reboot. i get a message from recovery asking if i want to fix root, because it may have been lost. if i pick either yes or no, it reboots.
after reboot i get a blank screen, with the icons inside the notification bar visible. the bar also moves when i tilt the phone, and when i slide out the controls, but it cannot be dragged down, or interacted with in any way.
also, i can hear and feel (through haptic feedback) that when i tap the screen, there are buttons being pushed, and things happening, but cannot see anything besides the notification icons. the screen will lock, but upon pressing the power/lock key, the only thing on the screen is the aforementioned notification icons (if i fix root i get a usb plug, battery, time, a signal bar with no signal, and a small android figure. if i decide not to fix root, i lose the little android, and gain a no-sd card symbol).
luckily i have a backup of my cm 9.1.0, but this has its own problems (VERY laggy on anything other than home screen, app drawer and apps are very slow to open. also after going into silent mode once, and returning to normal mode, most interface sounds are gone, as well as facebook updates).
any help is greatly appreciated.
try to flash .58 or any stock firmware first and continue to flash the latest lupus kernel v11. wifi module is include in this version so no need to flash the module after.then follow instruction on how to install the ics by markphyton.that what i do..

after trying this, every rom is now listed as bad in cwn, i have tried to flash a new bootloader with no luck. i tried re-flashing the bootloader that comes with the cm-9.1.0-zeus file, and the bootloader works, but every rom/backup that i try to flash, it tells me that the file is bad, or has an md5 mismatch. so im going to open a new thread, to try and bring it back.
