[Q] Need help in rooting my Desire Z .. - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys ... I have a Desire Z that I want to root, and I'm trying to follow this guide to root my phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...sion#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
According to the guide I need to downgrade my phone if my firmware version is higher than 1.34 .. Which version is this referring to here: Android phone -> Settings -> Software Information ... ?
Here is my phone's information:
Android version: 2.2.1
Baseband version: 12.28e.60.140fU_26.04.02.17_M2
Kernel version: 2.6.32.21- ....
Build number: 1.82.720.1 ....
Software number: 1.82.720.1
Browser version: WebKit 3.1
Also, assuming I have to downgrade, I need to follow the steps mentioned here to downgrade:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905261
Here, you are told to check your INFOCID with these commands:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot oem boot
I am assuming these are typed in your computer and sent to your phone through the ADB connection, right ?

Can someone please help a n00b out here .. ?

Hi!
1. Yes you have to downgrade your version is 1.82
2. Yes, adb and fastboot are executable for you PC. Adb is part of the Android SDK and fastboot is a tool that you can get from here http://developer.htc.com/google-io-device.html
In the wiki there is also a link to the thread on how to use adb for noobs.
Have fun - Guhl

Assuming that you are a noob, there is a forum for this. If you need help, respond to one of the forums regarding this topic. Not to be an A**hole but they will give you the best answers. There is a seperate forum for downgrading and rooting use the search bar at the top and reply to the corresponding forums, and you will be getting help from the best. Using this post will take long, plus after a few hours it will die behind to not be replied to. Take my advice.

HELP!
I rooted my phone using unrevoked forever and now that I want it back to stock I'm unable to do so. I have been searching and trying stuff for a week now with no results.
I have a Norwegian (english display language) not locked HTC Desire.
Hboot v: 0.97.0001
I constantly keep getting "wrong bootloader version" (error 140).
I have tried using the method from android modaco com (cannot post link, not allowed )
1 Make sure your goldcard is in your phone (If Required)
2 Turn your Desire on
3 Connect it to a Windows PC
4 Run the HTC RUU
5 Let it run
6 & YOUR DONE!
(without gold card).
I think the problem is that I'm using wrong RUUs, but I cannot seem too find the right one.
Can anyone help me?
PS: If you can supply a step by step guide I would be very grateful. I don't have a lot of experience with this sort of thing.
forgot to mention.
I have s-on
What ROM was on the phone when you first got it?
When I first got the phone was just after release though I don't remember the version. I rooted the phone last week so it hasn't been that long since I last did an update.
Without knowing the version there's no way of knowing what RUU you need. The only thing you can try is:
1. Make a gold card:
http://android.modaco.com/content/software/308798/pc-application-goldcardtool/
2. Downgrade to an earlier HBOOT:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
3. Flash the latest WWE RUU (2.29.405.5)
http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&so...cZlrId8Dkc9IAPJsg&sig2=QNe-C8tewW0x4cdsO7aCXA
OR
http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&so...IwRiRP-6PYkibAtPA&sig2=OT9aE7a-DDKInlx4lTxTjw
Is there any way to find the version now or am I boned?
There's no way know without having the ROM on the phone
I have only rooted the phone. I have not installed any new ROM though.
Software info:
Android: 2.2
Baseband version: 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Kernel version: 2.6.32.15
Build number: 2.29.405.2
Software number: 2.29.405.2
Ah, OK!! That's alright then!!
Just download the RUU I linked to up there and do the following:
1. Turn off phone
2. Turn it on holding the back button
3. Once at the white screen with FASTBOOT at the top connect to the PC
4. Once it says 'FASTBOOT USB' (and the drivers have installed) run the RUU
5. Allow it to complete
Job done
Great!
Gonna try it as soon as I have the RUU (slow network connection).
Damn, I can only thank you once
Thanks a million!
The one thing I would double-check is the HBOOT version on your phone - you sure it's not 0.93 and not 0.97?
Only reason I ask is that ROM version (both 2.29.405.2 and 2.29.405.5) both have HBOOT 0.93 in them and you can't flash them if yours is higher
It worked !
The HBOOT version was probably just me misremembering.
Thanks so much!
No worries, keep the RUU safe in case you need it again
Hi,sorry to hijack this thread.i need to clear some doubts abt unrooting, almost similar scenerio.
i think my front speakers are dead.from emiui 12.11 to miui-au 12.24 still not able to resolve the issue.thus need to unroot to stock to see whether it is working there or have to send it for warranty.
The phone originally came with:
Android Version
2.2
Baseband version
32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2
Kernal version
2.6.32.15-gd96f2c0
[email protected]#1
Build number
2.13.707.1 CL233262 release-keys
Software number
2.13.707.1
So my qn is when i see miui-au build no is :MIUI_AU 0.12.24 R2,what's the build no as in 2.xx.xxx??Or miui have their own build?
I have already downloaded RUU_Bravo_Froyo_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.13.707.1_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_143921_signed.exe
can i use this?
Another confusion from me is goldcard. My phone is bought from local carrier(Singtel,SG).does that means it is network branded?
Thanks!
If you're using 2.13.707.1 you should be OK to use that RUU without a gold card. Try it and see
so custom roms have no effect on build no.?
is there any diff running the ruu w or w/o goldcard?
oh..so i should follow the instructions on yr post and run the ruu from bootloader?

Root & Custom ROM's

Hello , few hours ago I buyed my first HTC device (desire)
I had already android based phone (x10 and x10 mini pro)
I'm up for root access , and custom roms , but I'm not sure about flasing because don't see app like flashtool I had on SE (saved my ass many times)
So is there way to flash base stock ROM (in my case T-mobile Croatia) if I have to use warranty.
can I backup my stock firmware I have now , or download it somewhere ?
Thanks.
It is possible to restore base ROM.
What is your stock software number?
Please give the info in your Settings > About phone > Software info.
Android version:
2.2
baseband:
32.49.00.32u_5.11.05.27
kernel:
2.6.32.15-gf5a401c [email protected] #1
build
2.29.405.5 cl293415 release keys
soft number :
2.29.405.5
thanks on fast reply.
From the numbers I can tell you, that you are unbranded.
You can download your RUU (Rom Update Utility) Here.
This is your version:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
This will flash back your current (stock ROM) - also removes Root.
Ok , thanks.
One more question , eg. flasing room fail , or something go wrong and I can't turn on device (boot loops , etc) can I just plug it on pc and flash that ruu room back ?
Or there is another way to unbrick

[Q] Restoring to stock ROM on old version of Cyanogen

Firstly I apologise for such a noob question, but I'm not an expert with HTC's as I usually deal with iPhones.
Anyway, I have a HTC Desire Bravo with the following specs:
Android version: 2.2
Baseband version: 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2
Kernel Version: 2.6.34.5-cyanogenmod
Mod version: CyanogenMod-6.0.2-Desire
Build number: FRF91
It's an Orange UK branded phone, and I'm trying to put it back to a stock ROM. I've identified that RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed.exe is the stock ROM I need to install, but how the heck do I do it?
I'm sorry it's such a noob question, but I've sold the phone and need to unlock it and put it back to the factory state.
You can't restore any ROMs, you must flash a new one.
Official untouched HTC Desire RUU ROM update (version 2.2). Not rooted, and contain radio and hboot rom update.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869048
There's also other ROMs (Orange, T-mobile etc...): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667.

After downloading the file, run it as you would run a setup for a program. Now you just have to follow the instructions on the screen.
I tried to run the .exe file and encountered Error 131 which is basically saying the version I'm trying to update to is not compatible with my device.
I've read something about gold cards being needed for branded devices, and as mine is an Orange UK, is this something I need to do?
Again sorry for the noob questions, I'm completely out of my depth here
Error 131 is the customer id error. This means, your phone was branded. Now you have to options:
- create goldcard (it avoids cid error), put this in your desire and flash newest ruu again
- flash the ruu from your provider (which was your provider?)

[Q] Hacking HTC Desire HD

2- If yes, is this will Downgrade the Android version.
3- Or should I use other software and procedure.
Thanks for your help.

1- Yes
1- Don't ask people what to do...just decide it yourself. If your device gets bricked no one but you will regret it.
Ok, I guess you need to read the effen manual a few more times...and the OP thread as well....NO OTHER SOFTWARE WILL WORK ON YOUR DEVICE, unless u want to mess it.

But is there anything wrong in the screen " stop watching tv "
Thanks a lot.
Don't worry. As suggested by many other members. Read the EFFEN manual thoroughly and follow the steps. It'll downgrade, but you can, after rooting, always change to higher android operating version.
Your device can be bricked, but if you follow the steps, I don't think there are any chances of bricking your device.

There´s nothing wrong with the screen. It is just asking for the passkey...wich of course in detailed in the manual.
Android 4.1 JellyBean Port
Hi there,
I'm trying to get a SDK Port working. By the way, I flashed the Virtuous Quattro ICS Kernel for that.
When I'm booting, I just see a black screen. What's my error? Adb works, I took this log from the device:

Thanks for your help,

I have no idea of what u are talking about as I am no dev.
Don´t hijack other people's threads....look for one with the same subject as yours or just start a new one...but this is off topic from the Hack Kit
I decide to continue phone Downgrade, the program connected to download PD98IMG.zip 252M , Am I in the correct way?.

To answer your questions:
1)yes it is compatible if you download it from DHD forum. I have used it to root my DHD and it worked.
2) yes you can proceed with your own risk (you can contact the admin of the forum to check your phone compatibility to make sure)
3) I guess it will downgrade your android version first. and if it downgrade it dont be afraid this process will most of time will not affect the mobile phone(as I know).
4) well its up to you if you feel that the advanced ace hack kit will affect your phone dont try it.
to make things clear to you every forum that contains the steps to do this has information on what versions of mobile and android versions must be available if it is not in the thread its in the downloadable file.
for the picture that you attached it just asks for a passkey which you can find in aahk file->tools->txt and open the txt file CAJUN.
there is a html file in the main folder make sure to read it carefully when you want to proceed
hope that helped
Sorry, It doesn't work with me. After it finished the download of PD98IMG.zip (252M), the program made a new connection and started again to download the same zip file.

that is because your phone is not downgraded...downgrade takes place in the phone. If you are still on Sense 3.0 and Android 2.3.5 then you will still get the same result.
Thank you for patience
But I already accepted ( typed the letter y ) to make the downgrade from the Kit.

Check in the about phone menu that u are running Android 2.3.3 and Sense 2.1 versions...that will tell u if u are downgraded. Just to make sure. The CMD session by itself doesn´t downgrade the phone. You need to apply update with volume down.....
It has the original data with sense 3.

Then u are not downgraded....downgrade will delete all your data and will have Android 2.3.3 and Sense 2.1...that is why is asking u to do that again....

No, don't use other file. You might mess your phone. Do the following...go to the PD98IMG folder in the hack kit extracted folder and then rename the file PD98IMG-GB6.zip to PD98IMG.zip, put it in the root of your sdcard and then boot in hboot and wait to be prompted to update. If you are not prompted, then u might have a bad sdcard and you will have to use a different one.

[Q] Help with software updating my HTC One X

As the title said, my HTC One X version is very very old.. It's like just software updated once after I bought the phone 2 years ago.. After I rooted it, I don't know how to software update it, it be like restarted to Bootloader maybe(white screen) .. I tried to unroot by deleting something using the Eexplorer something but still failed so I've decided to keep it rooted and search for more function about root.
I heard I'm able to software update manually using ROMs right? Then I went through this forum and i found this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1920060 , How to install JellyBean 4.1.1 with Sense 4+ ROMs..
I would like to ask you guys as I'm considered do not have any knowledge of root except those fastboot bootloader stuff, is my htc one x able to do that update to JellyBean? Is it safe? I don't understand the CID stuff inside that thread..
These are my software information:
Android version : 4.0.3
HTC sense : 4.0
Software number 1.29.707.11

Kernel version 2.6.39.4-gc9932b1
