So I tried searching beforehand but I didn't find anything really, so forgive me if it has been asked already.
The initial sync that the device does when you're first setting it up (like from installing a new Rom) syncs with your provided gmail account and starts installing all the apps you had up till the last data connection before wipe.
I'm curious if I can start this sync again without a data wipe/factory reset. Thing is, some of the apps simply failed in downloading, and would continue if restarted. I rebooted the phone before all of 'em were finished and would have to manually fetch them all over.
Now I know and have titanium and all the wonderfullness, but the sync is just preffered for me, and data by titanium. So is this possible? Is it so common I completely missed it? Or do I simply have to do a data wipe once more... Thanks for any and all replies.

Firstly, you are going to get flamed for posting this in the Development section, rather than the Q&A section.
Secondly, as far as I know, the initial sync is a one-time only operation. I do not know of any way to force the system to sync again, barring wiping everything.
If you've linked your device on the Market website, all your apps should show as installed on there under your account/profile area. From here, you should be able to install them again despite it saying it already is installed because once you click the install button, it will check your phone again to see if it is already on there. I had to do this myself and it saved me quite a bit of time.
This video HERE will help you with your problem.
Thanks for the info Nightmare. And yes, the video is all important, ill admit to not knowing everything there is to know about my device and its available services, thanks for the replies.
And mods can close/delete this, clicked through wrong favs in the app, sorry for the miss section, just realized, lol.

Since I received the Froyo OTA on my desire, I noticed that the backup is no more executed..Anyone noticed this?
The file on the sdcard/backup/HTC Desire are old of 3 days ago.. Are the backup files in any other location? How I can know if the backup is correctly exectuted now?
Could someone help me to understand this?
PS. Sorry for my english
Just to be clear..If I search Privacy I can see that the automatic backup option is flagged..So the backup should be executed or I'm wrong?
No one have this problem????
I do have exactly the same problem. Noticed this when I upgraded to the first froyo version, even the original htc betas.
No backup is done in the background, thus no restore option when upgrading the rom.
This scary me..Why the backup is not done anymore? Someone with others froyo rom have this?
200 people read this..and no one answer..hmm
Just found out this the hard way after doing a hard reset. All SMSs lost, all installed apps lost, all settings lost etc.
Even though HTC has led me to believe all my data would be preserved in their help and resource area:
"Your phone backs up the following types of data and settings whenever there are new additions or changes:
* Text and multimedia messages
* Settings in the Messages application
* Web bookmarks..."
As far as I can tell, my phone behaves exactly like OPs. There is a backup on the SD, but the last update to it was when I applied the official OTA update (which was stupid, since I was planning on rooting).
I too can search privacy to find the backup settings, which looks enabled.
I have read somewhere that on froyo, the backup is made automatically to googles cloud and not on the card. Not sure how to control this.

I've lost all privacy options from the settings menu. Any ideas?

This worries me too...
Did someone asked to HTC for info?
How with Froyo on the Nexus One? No backup on sd card executed too?
C'mon folks this is a pretty big issue... any ideas?
If you go to settings, search, searchable items and ensure phone settings is ticked then you can hit the search key and search for privacy. This leads you to the phone's privacy settings. Mine still shows the back up settings active, but I don't know how it works.

Yeah... I had that setting active also when i searched for privacy, didn't do anything though. Did the hard reset just to find out that there is no way to get your data back, not from the sd-card nor from google's cloud. Interesting that froyo was ment to improve the backup situation and htc's implementation destroys it totally. Same with the browser, i'm almost missing my 1st gen iPod touch browser.

That HTC backup wouldn't allow you to return to your older firmware, if that's what you meant.

When you do a hard reset its stated quite clearly that you loose all your data, including the backups. What you quote from HTC is the fact your stuff gets backupped when there is an update etc.
Factory reset is a.. well.. factory reset

Hi All,
Long time reader, first time poster. I've tried searching for this topic, and those threads the touch on it all stop short of my issue. Please let me know if this is covered somewhere else.
My gmail stopped syncing since I've flashed Darkside Evolution Beta03 (otherwise it's great). I've tried clearing the cache and the data under manage applications as well as made sure that gmail is checked on the sync menu, but still no dice.
It used to be that my phone would beep whenever I got a new email before it even showed up on my desktop, but now I have to manually hit refresh for the app to see it at all, let alone before my computer.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

I tried this and no dice. It's still not syncing. I suppose I could always revert back to Juggernaut 5.0, which is what I was running before this, but it would be such a shame for what seems like a stupid reason.
Anyone else with thoughts?

Yes, I tried this, and it did not work. The only time it syncs is if I actually tell it to sync. There is nothing automatic about it ...

I've been in that forum since day one and have never heard of this issue. Of course I may have missed a post or 20. I suggest not going back like u said, for such a stupid reason. I think ull really enjoy the rom. Reflash cuz that shouldn't happen. I doubt you need to reflash but instead of nitpicking what it could be I'd just super wipe and start over. Good luck.

Dude.. ya think that most people don't know that?
I have the same problem. Did a clean wipe and fresh flash today, and suddenly Google Play is not syncing my apps anymore. Does fine with the contacts and everything, just not Google Play. Note: this is on a Galaxy S2, not a Nexus, but I figured it would be good to know for everyone that this does not appear to be a Nexus issue, but a Play issue.
I've noticed it depends on what Rom you use. When I was on the more stock roms it always did it but now that I'm running aokp it doesn't.

My C2P stopped working too. I switched to Chrome2Mobile (I think is what it's called) extention on my desktop, it works again and that ext lets me send links to my iPad too.
i only ever remember this working with gingerbread on my ns4g. from ics on, the restore feature has only been good for wallpaper and wifi passwords
I found a potential fix
I want to preface this by saying I wasn't having the same problem as you all are having when I log back into my google account after flashing my apps start downloading. My issue is that after it started I ended up in area without service(subway) and then half of my apps failed. I didn't feel like clicking each and re downloading them. The only thing I could think of was signing out of my google account which supposedly wipes your info and then signing back in to restart the sync and it worked for me so try it out and let me know if it works for you all. If it does please Thank this is only like my 2nd post here.

..... I think I remember reading a solution to this somewhere...
I was browsing my installed Applications and noticed two Google Calendars. Naturally, I wanted to get rid of one. I checked when I last used them and uninstalled the one listing some time in 2008. Turned out to be a mistake. Since then the Calendar force closed without error message on me when I tried changing into Appointment Overview (or whatever it may be called in English). In trying to rectify my mistake I first uninstalled and reinstalled the Application and when that didn't work I uninstalled everything even remotely associated with Calendars. Including Calendar Storage and Calendar Sync App. Really should not have done that.
I tried to install the Application again but it is still force closing and on top of it now i obviously cannot sync anything any longer.
I would really like to avoid flashing and was hoping someone over here would be kind enough to help me out.
I am obviously using a Galaxy Nexus with CM 10.1-20130411-EXPERIMENTAL-maguro-m3 and 3.0.7.1.-leanKernel-6.3.1-05165-g0f0c8df
Thanks alot!

Keep getting a popup warning every morning when we turn on our Note 8.0 then start the wi-fi that says: "An update is required to access Samsung services". So far we've answered "No" each time the warning is displayed until I find out what they want to update and just how much extra data will be deposited onto the tab if we allow it.
Yeah...I'm paranoid but the fact is, we don't use any Samsung services. I'd really like to turn the Samsung account OFF if that's a safe thing to do.
What do you say Note 8.0/Android community? Should I allow the update or would turning off the Samsung account stop the update notices???
EnzoS
I believe you can turn off the account, as a fact I have mine turned off and whenever I re-flash a new Rom either Stock or Custom I always say No to the Samsung account, but you can remove/delete your Samsung account by going here https://account.samsung.com/membership/service/getServieInfoList.do sign in, profile, remove account.
On your tablet it will still show Samsung account and you will notice that it cannot sync "sync error" when you click that it will try to sync and will fail, after that the Samsung account will be gone or if you do see "remove account" just remove it with that.
I will include a picture of the services that will be stopped.
Hoping this helps

Another U break it by disabling it thread... I see this all the time with peeps disabling features in MS Windows.
I use Samsung account to get the latest Samsung updates. Without your updates, your link, OS update, and most of all Miracast sync will not properly function. As there are bug fixes and added features.
I even have Google play store setup to be automated with updates as well. It is the only way to track the 200 or so downloaded apps being fixed and what not. Still waiting for 100% compatibility for Android 4.4.x... which may never be. HA!
Though I use dummy a google email account that are setup with features disabled. Google has buried a lot of user settings, but at least you have them to disable.
@gooberdude you telling us that if you don't setup the Samsung account you will NOT get an OS update? I find that strange cause as I said before I never set it up and still was getting my OS updates when I checked for updates, now of course after I Root the device with either CF-root or "the always mentioned by you" Saferoot, it will say that my device is modified and that there are no updates available.
I really don't see the point of a Samsung account and feel that Samsung is wasting resources/battery with constant syncing in trying to duplicate stuff (calendar, email, app store, etc) by putting an additional and IMHO unnecessary layer into the OS that Google already does.

I use saferoot and it does not show device is modified, because it is not flashed. Many root options require flashing, saferoot does not. So the flag is left alone.
Now for Samsung apps, you must have an account to use half of them. So if you are not using any Samsung apps, then don't bother with making an account.
I think you can still use the Samsung voice commander without an account... as it is at least 2x faster than Google and works just the same.
Its all up to you on what you want to do for getting updates. For me I get 3% battery drain every 12 hours when in sleep mode with WIFI enabled. Including having updates and email active. That is too small to think about disabling accounts or turning off sync and updates.
It seems too many Android peeps tweak things so much that they are paranoid by not doing enough. I am a minimalist. I do what I can with what I got, and find what is the issue before modifying, adding or removing stuff. I have found that Samsung and Google can interact well with each other to make operation of the tablet quick and stable. Though, Google needs to work more on getting things right with voice search and media player.
At least Samsung has addressed and fixed many wee issues with proper updates since January and March. Just waiting for 4.4.x to be released so I have that available when I want to upgrade.
@gooberdude don't hear me wrong, I am completely with you as far as the paranoia goes, I myself am a firm believer of Stock Rom with minimal tweaks, when it comes to updates I always check manually, I use the tablet mostly for reading my ebooks and occasional web browsing, email and getting good battery life, right now I'm at 2 days and 6 hours with 32% left, of course I enable my wifi when I need it.
I actually did send you a PM a few days ago asking about safe-root, don't know if you have seen or gotten that or not, I would like to start using safe-root to it full potential

Thanks guys for the comments and recommendations but perhaps I didn't make myself totally clear in the initial posting. I'd simply like to know if I can avoid being bothered to update my account or apps or whatever by turning off the Samsung account on the tablet. I don't have to (nor do I want to) delete the Samsung account entirely. I just want to take it off the tablet (turn it off/disable it) with hopes that the popups warning me that "An update is required to access Samsung services" will go away.
As I stated earlier, we don't use any Samsung services and don't even download any apps from the Samsung apps store. As Harjan112 said: "...Samsung is wasting resources/battery with constant syncing in trying to duplicate stuff (calendar, email, app store, etc) by putting an additional and IMHO unnecessary layer into the OS that Google already does." We also are quite minimalistic and are very happy to run the tab with as little as possible running in the background and only update what we use if absolutely necessary.
Your comments in this regard will be appreciated.
EnzoS
You can remove the account from the tablet without deleting it entirely.
Go to your settings... Accounts... Click Samsung account then on the right side of the screen you will see Accounts with your email address click that, then in the top right corner you should see remove account.
This also should stop the update notice.
Hoping this helps

Harjan112...thank you very much for the detailed information. I needed to be assured that removing the Samsung account from the Note 8.0 was the right way to go and your explanation seems to be right on the money. The tab is my wife's and I don't think she would appreciate it too much if I decided to root the thing and experiment on it in any way (ha).
Now if I could only get an answer to my other problem: the Gallery's data file bloating itself for no apparent reason every time the tab is turned on or rebooted. It's pretty strange that (so far) 118 people have viewed the posting but not one reply...not even a foolish recommendation (ha).
Thank you again. I will definitely give it a try now.

Ah, well we did not follow your past question... I found with my antivirus app, that I get over 350MB of cached images just with my mp3 ID3 tags having album art.
I found that if you install Xposed framework and add the Wanam Xposed module, you have he ability to disable caching of images. Since disabling, I get zero cache. As for clearing the cache, you will either add a cleaner app or replace your antivirus with one that has built in added utilities.
Though one thing about disabling cache, you will notice slower image redraws with any images that are stored on slow SD cards. I have 633x UHS-1 SD card installed, and do not find images having issues with delayed image redraws from SD.
Hope this helps.
