[Q] New HTC kernel with SBC? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone seen anything floating around yet?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App

I'm waiting for htc to release kernel, then netarchy can make one

It'll be a while, I expect. I think I read the last time HTC did an update, it was about a month before the source code was released.

Hopefully they move a little quicker this time. I would love a GB kernel with SBC. Tired of running Sense 2.1/3.0 roms and having to lose my camera just to get some SBC.
Come HTC, make your dev community happy and release the source!

(Q) Is there a better rom than UD

Hey I'm using the ultimate droid rom for the g2. And it must have got discontinued because I xant find it anywhere. So I'm looking for a replacement rom. Looking for vanilla, no sense (ew). And something with a good kernal maybe the 1.8 or 1.9OC? Anyways looking for better preformance and not a downgrade from what I'm using.

what do you mean by you can't find it anymore...?
http://www.blackdroidmod.com/
I left ud for pyromod. The dev can be a **** though(yeah I said it) . But now I'm on the gingerbread leak for the g2 and perfect after adding a few things. Pyro is good, xboarders stuff is good too, stock gingerbread rocks.
You are aware that xda isn't the only place in the world to get roms right? If you used this crazy new invention called google you wouldn't of even made the discontinued statement

indeed.... UD became blackdroidmod.
can anyone please tell me how this UD rom is better than Cyanogen?

It's got some different options, not sure if it's better than CM7 though. I would wholeheartedly recommend meXdroid or Pyromod here; both are CM7 variants that have great themes with some tweaks to CM7's base. Users of UD would probably feel right at home with either.
Guess I should try this Pyro mod

Also your not going to find any rom comming with a 1.8ghz standard. Thats for advanced users and you need to make it work yourself so you dont fry your phone. I would recomend you stick to 1.5ghz tops. You wont notice any difference anyway unless your trying to compete with quad/linepack scores....
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Well I'm just looking to have it. I run my G2 at 1ghz. I just like having the ability to have more.

+1. Maybe these guys should hook up with the Inc people
I'm doing fine with CM7, with the Sense adw and t-mobile themes.
The European Inc S Android 2.3 starts rolling out today. That's flipping retard, seniority should be priority!

Yup real sense is the best but if its sense 1.0 i am not looking forward to the gingerbread leak but what i am looking forward to is a gingersense kernel with that we can finnaly port sense 3.0.
same here. But I'm worried 3.0 is going to lag very badly

Not necessarily theres been a new leak specifically of the htc kingdom which runs on sense 3.0 but has a single core 1.2 ghz processor so that may help on the lag problem but it 's runs pretty smooth on phone with single cores the doubleshot leak rom for the mytouch 4g is pretty smooth and so is the desire hd port.
Edit: I check 911 Sniper Htc blog religiously ever since the evo gb leaked lol like seruously every five minutes im on my laptop i check his blog hoping for something like Incredible_GB_VZW_WWE_4.12.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.04.08_NV_208_release_183986.zip

Me either..i dont think anyone really cares for this leak gb ota because it will have sense 1.0 what we do care about is the gingersese kernel which will allow us to port over sense 3.0 etc.

What will be nice is once you do get a 2.3 leak there will already be a mostly working Sense 3.0 for the Evo, so it would be an easy port right?

I don't care for the actual rom since it's basically outdated with sense 1.0 now all i care about is that kernel so we can port over some nice sense 3.0 roms.

Where are the new kernels?

Where are the new kernels for sense 2.3.3 roms? All of the roms I've seen are for 2.2. I would like on with sbc for my extended battery.

HTC hasn't released source yet. We won't see any custom kernels until the kernel devs have source to work with. We are waiting in HTC.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I read that HTC will be making sense open source, but I don't recall a date. Maybe I should just buy a pure Google phone to be done with all of this hurry up and wait. On second thought, sense has some good benefits besides battery life, which could be resolved with a custom gb kernel.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
As for sense being open source. My understanding is sense will not be open source per se, but htc is implementing to allow outside devs to dev apps for sense, that will integrate with sense.
At least, that's my understanding.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Yeah, they're just opening their API is my understanding of it. Basically making it easier to make widgets and apps that are designed specifically to work with Sense. There are absolutely no plans to have Sense running on anything other than HTC hardware.
HTC FTW! That's much more than I'd expect from Motorola or Samsung.
It is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice.
They havnt released the source codes yet

[Q] Sooo... Any update on ACS 1.3?

It's been a few months and 1.2 is STILL the best ROM in my opinion. Just... any new news on the development for 1.3?
John did mention a new kernel would be included with 1.3 but that it wouldn't be Vision Kernel as was expected a while back. Other than that, rjmjr69 (leader of ACS) hinted that 1.3 would be "coming soon" in the 1.2 thread not to long ago, so we shouldn't be waiting much longer. My GUESS (which should be taken with a grain if salt) would be that it's in its testing stages and being prepped for release, hopefully before Oct? We'll see what happens tho, someone on the inside is bound to tip us off with a teaser or something soon.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
LOL ... yep , when rjmjr69 posted that , I got my phone ready , but still waiting ... LOL
Yeah, when they are trying to add a new kernel, new tweaks, Hotspot hack, etc it can get tricky. Especially the kernel part. You have to test so many configurations to confirm stability. For all I know, the kernel may not make it in. I will contact some people to try and get more details
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
It will be based on froyo, iirc, which would mean it'l be outdated at release. They may have considered that...

Thanks, Ceelos! That's what I needed to hear! In my opinion, I think ACS should just "strongly" suggest a good kernel for us to include instead of making one. But, I'm happy with 1.2 at the moment.
I tried the Hurricane ROM and the volume was waaay too loud. I reverted back to ACS 1.2 and I'm happy as a clam.

Usually teams seem to recommend a fellow team, member's or friend's kernel but the one that is the most current is Genocide 2.0 that has Voodoo 10. Maybe I will go through all of the kernels and test for battery life, speed, and whatever anyone asks

Since it is so easy to flash a kernel, and they dont normally change anything else in my setup, I tend to have as many as possible on my SD to cycle through until I find the one that works the best on my setup
ehhh , im done with froyo .. i dont feel like backtracking now.

Man, I have more unreleased test kernels than official releases. Maybe Rodderik is working on something new. I know 2 others who are but I won't name them so they don't get bombed with ETA posts..lol

Just hearing the part about you knowing 2 devs that are working on kernels is a breath of fresh air to me. I've been wondering when new kernels would start to roll out again. I was hoping for an update to Vision and Genocide kernels, especially after the efficiency keyboard patch was released by mkasick. Hope to see some updated, and possibly new, kernels.

I agree 100%. I have as much fun messing with a new kernel as I do a new ROM. Its more risky testing them because you can fry your phone but that's part of the fun! Lol

They should not include a custom kernel. One of the best thing in 1.2 was the stock kernel. Custom kernels sometimes make apps to FC. I had issues, random reboots, FCs with custom kernel. That why I choose 1.2 because it have a stock kernel, no issues since first install(well in my wife Epic it lost the root).

1.2 did not have a kernel it keeps whatever kernel you had before. Im sure it lost root on your wife's epic cause it was probably stock and root is usually baked in the kernel

[Q] Progress on ICS sense kernel/ roms maybe ETA?

ok i know i probly asked this question a miliion times but, is there any news on how progress is going for a sense 4.0 rom or a ics kernel? is it even possible to get an ics sense kernel for our phone? or is there any devs that are trying to port a sense 4 rom? i looked everywhere on the internet and xda but i cant find any info about kernel or rom. i heard jaredthegreat was trying to a couple months ago, but not sure if hes still working on that. so can the community enlighten me and others who are eager to try the new version sense on how progress is going for our OG evo?
Probably waiting on source code still... and not the best topic to be asking on, you may get flamed for this one...
kernel source? can we use the one v source? or are you talking about the 2.3.5 source for the evo?
The EVO will not receive an ics OTA update so devs will have to work with the source when it comes out and make it work with the EVO
