Data Throttle Remover question. - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a new DTR for the newest nightlies? I'm on 97. I tried the previous one for 7.0.3, and my phone got stuff at the white boot screen everytime.
Still rocking the Incredible with the XDA Premium App.

Not that it matters, but you do realize that the DTR mod is merely snake oil, right? It does not prevent VZW from throttling you, nor does it reduce the likelihood of it. It does not increase speeds. All it does it remove the capability for device-side throttling, which carriers don't even utilize. As such, wrapping your phone in wax paper and spooning cherry pie filling on it would have the same net effect on "throttling"as the DTR mod

Are you sure? Because before I first installed the mod, my data affords speeds were at 0.6mbps. With mod, it was constantly 1.3mbps. Now that I flashed a new ROM, mod gone, I'm back to .6.

Data Throttle Remover - let's do some mythbusting
Even the original developers of this hack claim that it no longer works (it is referred to as "extinct") and only originally had any effect on T-Mobile and Canada Bell:

SO FAR, THIS HAS ONLY BEEN KNOWN TO WORK ON T-MOBILE USA AND CANADA BELL... ALL OTHER CARRIERS SEEM TO HAVE THESE FILES JUST BECAUSE IT'S A STANDARD IN ANDROID 2.2.1 AND SEEM TO BE CONTROLLED COMPLETELY OTA UNLIKE TMOBILE AND BELL...

The link above also has more of a timeline for when this mod was ported across the various phones (and therefore various carriers)
Ask yourself why the CM team doesn't bother messing with this mod. If it did what it claimed, why wouldn't they include it stock? After all, they include tethering functionality as part of the rom itself.

One thing I never got is why they (CM team) haven't gone ahead and removed it. Yes, most mobile companies don't use it and probably never will, but stranger things have happened. Plus it would cut down on the size of the ROM, however small.

Alright fair enough, so any other logical reason for the random data speed increases and losses at the same spots.
Still rocking the Incredible with the XDA Premium App.

Its just variation in network speed, I don't know that there's much rhyme or reason to it. I was getting 200-400kbps down earlier today, tested it like 20 mins later and was getting 800-1000kbps. Same location, same setup.

There are moment to moment variations in how RF signals propagate. What makes the DTR popular is that people see this variation, whether positive or negative, and incorrectly attribute it to the mod. It's a textbook post hoc logical fallacy.

3g speeds super low.

I've updated my PRL and profile several times. My old phone was slow too. Could something be wrong with my account?

It could be your area. Try testing in different locations. If it's still slow, then it may be your account.
Sometimes if you use a lot of data, there is some evidence to suggest sprint may throttle you.
The other thing could be your phone. If you have a lot of processes going, even ones that don't use data, it can still affect the phones ability to work properly.
I would try ruling those out and then call Sprint.

There is a thread for this already, a lot of people are having this same problem, including me. It started around November, when before, I would constantly get at least 1500kbps down and up, as both my home and work are less than a block from a tower.
After one day for some reason, I can NEVER get anything above 100kpbs, and it usually doesnt work at all. I have done everything, and sprint, stupidly, thinks that its a hardware problem every time, and since November, they have given me 5 brand new evo's. ALL have the exact same problem. I'm no expert, but 5 brand new phones dont all have the same problem. I have called CS MANY MANY times, and they refuse to check their end, saying every time that "our network is fine".
Whats weird, every friend I have on sprint, their phones are fine, even 3 year old phones. Whats even weirder, my friend with an evo, and the evo's in the sprint store all are fine. But with this thread on here, and a long thread on AF, there seems to be an isolated issue with a lot of people.

Well you can count me in as an isolated issue. My 3G has been fine for like 2 years now, and all of the sudden, I'd say the past month or more, total crap. It's taking me about 5 minutes or more to download a 2mb app update on the market. 4G is still good. I really wish I knew what was going on. I do the same Profile and PRL updates like the OP daily.
Well its definitely not my 3g being "slow". I am just not connecting to it. Qik errors and says I am not connected to 3g. My data status says 1x RTT for my connection. I need to call sprint.

Anybody receive the Gb OTA yet?

From what I understand some people are starting to receive the Gb ota. Just wondering if anyone here is able to get it via checking for new software.

I found this on a quick google search http://gadgetian.com/20137/htc-droid-incredible-2-gingerbread-ota-update/
I'm not running that version, but a signed and verified one from someplace much more trustworthy IMO. I cannot give a link to mine, but everything about the .4. version is refined from the .3. and the phone works flawlessly now !
good luck and godspeed boys!
i'm sure once the ota is pushed more you WILL see it posted around so keep updating those browsers

Just force checked and got it! Tampa

Finally just checked my gfs phone and its downloading now. In in MA.

I have it, dc area
Carelessly swyped on my phone so there may be some weird typos
Available for me. 50 miles south of DC.
got it in monterey, ca... seems good to go so far...no htc hub tho, i thought sense 2.1 was supposed to have that included...not sure what to do with the new dock option...looks pretty tho
Just checked and it is available in south eastern Pennsylvania. It is taking a while to download over 3G so I will probably try connecting to the university's WiFi to speed things up.
Force check in DC worked like a charm.

Does this count towards the new tiered bandwidth amounts? I was lucky enough to be.grandfathered with the unlimited so it does not effect me personally, so just wondering if ota updates are an exclusion.
I got it and ignored it. Near Albuquerque, NM
Murder-apolis Minnie-snow-ta just got the email from HTC notifying me its available. Waiting to hear more about how its working out for people. Still not decided about root either. Liking having options right now.
Not sure if it just me but the internet browser feels a lot snappier and responsive especially when typing in forums and also switching between tabs/windows. Selecting text to cut and copy also feels a lot nicer and more accurate moving around the selector icons. Switching from tasks also significantly smoother.
Seems that in terms of "bloatware" the only thing new that was added was Google books which is not so bad, at least it is some game or service that requires a subscription like blockbuster.
Also, while the other preinstalled stuff still can not be uninstalled the.option to move the applications to the SD card was added to all of them, which I guess is a step in the.right.direction, but personally them taking up space was the least of my worries with generous big SD card that came with the phone.
But the improved default internet browser had to be my favorite change so far, since I prefer it over the third party ones and probably is one of the top uses I get out of my phone.

[Q] Data throttle.

Is there a way to get unthrottled 3g speed back? I don't even get 1mb down.

If there is any throttling going on, it's done on the carrier side and there isn't anything you can do about it. Unless you're in the top 5% of data users, it's doubtful you're being throttled.

Well, on my previous phone, droid 2, it wasn't carrier side, it was built into the framework and would get triggered when you passed x amount of data. Some guy found the file and created a patch to restore normal speed, I flashed it on my droid 2 and went from the 0.5mbps, to 1.5mbps. Wasn't sure if there was something similar to that patch for the Inc 2.

They had that with the original Inc also. Proved to be nothing in our control. False sense of security. Long thread discussing this and found to be useless to most
Wow. Any ballpark on what the "x" amount of data was?
After reading reception issues on this and other forums, I'm thinking this may be related to poor antenna design.

If you're being throttled then I suspect you are doing something very wrong. I've broken 8gb without being throttled, including on my Inc2.
In any case...
In most places in my area I break 1mbit pretty easily. However, there are places where it's not unusual to be stuck at 300k-500k. This isn't throttling. This is poor signal quality in the area. The only way to get around it is get a better signal. Not a stronger signal...a better signal.

Pretty much, yes. You can also try purchasing a repeater/signal booster (note: these are devices that can be expensive that you mount to a structure, not small devices or stickers you attach to your phone).

Quick reviews from people who've had the phone for a few months now

I'm most likely going to be getting this phone sometime in the near future and wanted to ask if anyone noticed any niggles or other nonsense that sometimes happens with Samsung Android phones (i.e. roaming notification not caring about no longer displaying the message, GPS issues, etc.)
Just quick reviews, mostly I'm looking for the little things that bug people.
Thanks

+1, had a number of smartphones in the past, this one clearly blows all of my expectations away. The only issue I've had is sporadically losing connectivity to my wifi and I'm not sure if it's something I've loaded or a bug from Samsung/Sprint. My kids have the Evo LTE and Iphone 4S and I wouldn't trade for the world.
The best phone yet IMO, yes the only con I have found is data connectivity every once and awhile. LG8 radio seems better than any other. Been running jellybomb rom, superfast. Fastest phone I've owned so far, and I've had um back to the HTC Hero.

Try moving your router as far away from other electronics. As for the phone...I'm really loving it. With an extended battery( Hyperion 4200mah) in it, I'm getting almost two days off charger with 47% still left as I type this.

Its the best choice, my only gripe is maybe that I wanted quad core to dual boot Ubuntu and do my best to ditch all use of laptop or desktop. ...but ..then again despite all the quads having nicer gpus even the a15 based s4krait kinda disappointed next generation I suppose
This is kinda a crappy year for the fact they are transitioning production processes I'm really hoping the next exynos generation skips a15 all together
But yeah long story short ...it beats everything we have in the US market

Incredibly slow 3G data; is Sprint throttling me?

So, for the majority of last month I recall having absolute **** speeds on 3G ranging from 20 to 70 Kbps occasionally reaching to something like 120Kbps. This is in my normal coverage area where I can often get from 1100 to 1800 Kbps. I had thought that I might be getting throttled since I used a total of like 14GB of 3G last month. The new billing cycle started today and I'm still getting the same horrid speeds. What gives? I've already reflashed my ROM and modem without any benefit. Anyone else know what could be going on?

Sprint is the problem. LOL I'm not sure have you tried contacting Sprint? I'm jelly that you can even achieve 1200kbps.

Hahahahahahaha I remember those days. Man that's how bad sprints service is. That's why I left them and went with Verizon.

Seriously? Who would stay with a carrier that would take 5 minutes just to load a picture? I'll be sure to call them later. For some reason that never crossed my mind.

I tried Sprint briefly years ago, sounds like they haven't improved much since then.
if not for the LTE in my area (san antonio) sprint would be unusable.
It sounds like 1X data speeds and not 3G, some of the stock roms display a 3G icon even when connected to 1X data. If you use the speedtest app
it will show a graph of the results, if the speed graph looks like it hits a ceiling around 100k,.it is probably connected to 1X data.
If you see multiple spikes in the graph well above 100k, it is probably a crappy connection/signal.
Same here. I'm on Virgin Mobile, but it's apart of Sprint too. It's been crappy for the past week.
Sent from my HTC One V using Tapatalk 2
I'm on Sprint. Get about 500 to 1000kbits on 3G in my area. I understand they're not great in all areas, but the price is good.

So. Uh. If that isn't the best speed test you've ever seen? I think Jellybro has the 1x indicator fix and the normal upload speeds seem to indicate I'm on 3G. Sprint dude just said to take it to a store. I guess I'll do that. Unless going back to complete stock might fox something. I'll try that next.
