ad_blocking by xboarder56 - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How do I install xboarder56's ad_blocking and the honeycomb music player? Ive downloaded and unzipped them with astro, but i have no idea where to put the folders or if thats even the correct way to do it. I would have posted this on xboarder56's thread, but i have less then 10 post and cannot post under development.

if you get the .apk's and put them on your sdcard, then select them in astro, you should get the option to install them.

You don't need to unzip them, you just flash the zip from recovery like you would if you were flashing a rom

thanks...will do this as soon as i get home.

Taskmanager Widget (JM7)

Since i´ve sorted out some standart apk´s and odex-files with a Rootmanager out of my system yesterday, i´m pretty confident with the Firmware right now.
But there is one thing missing right now, the Samsung Taskmanager Widget. Would somebody be so kind and upload it for me?
That would be great!
Best regards,
Thomas
Come on guys
Just one .apk and .odex file, anybody?

If you are using CWM (Clockwork Recovery Mod), you dont need to rename anything at all.
If however, you are using either or recovery 2e or 3 (Stock Recovery), you will need to keep the file as update.zip. No exceptions to the file name using stock recovery.
Do I select "Install Rom from sd card" in cwm once downloaded?
I tried to install that .zip with clockworkmod but it got stuck at the installing and I had to take out the battery to return to my rom..

No Problem. Good luck bro. You are a braver man than me to try this. I have thought about making my own Rom because every one I try I like some things but not everything. I would be cool to combine features or implement features from other Rom's and take out the things you don't like and have one happy Rom that you created and use designed especially for you! Anyway, let me know the results and how difficult it is and maybe I'll give it a shot.
Alternatively, you can use apps like System App Remover to remove apps though you would have to remove each app individually...
or you could just open the zip file with any zip application and remove the files you want and then flash
ZIP
after unzipping and removing apps does the zip need to be signed before flashing or will it be ok ?

It depends witch recovery are you using with Amon-Ra you need signed zips but with Clockwork you can flash unsigned zips.

Anyone have the EVO camera file that I can flash through clockwork?

I found an old thread with it, but the download doesn't work anymore.
Rom manager, virtuous extra goodies section.

Tried that and didn't work. Shows everything went through good, but still incredible camera.
Should be alternate or main camera toggle. It does work.

I've tried it 3 times and can't find it anywhere after I flash it.
I don't see that you responded to my post in your other camera thread, but here's a piece of it that may be relevant:

What version of recovery are you using? Have you tried manually booting to recovery and flashing rather than going through RM?
I ask these questions because it's possible that you are running a new version of recovery 3.x and trying to use the old update script. If you try it manually then you'll be able to see if it is failing to update (going through RM will just reboot and you won't realize it failed).

Here's an old zip from Virtuous:
http://files.virtuousrom.com/inc/extras/virtuous-install_evo_camera.zip
If you can't successfully flash, extract the apk from the zip and use root explorer to copy it to system/apps
Then just make sure to set the permissions properly on the file and reboot - that should do it

I have it. do you want it for an EVO based rom or Incredible framework, on a ROM like SkyRaider which is 100% incredible framework the EVO camera will work.. but it makes it so you can't send MMS msg...
I'm running virtuous so I would need it for that rom.

I had that problem with the latest clockwork. Do you know if that camera will work on an incredible with Gingerbread?

Add on .zips?

Hey, is there a repository or anything for .zips for me to add on to CM7? Such as; i downloaded an LG widgets .zip to flash (didn't work by the way) with clockwork, but i mean that kind of thing. Even if there isn't a repository is there any you'd recommend me add on?
Thanks!
Damn...zips or apks? Someone mentioned how to add apps to the rom zip so they would be system apps or part of the rom. I remember it being easy sounding but forgot. Glad you asked before I did.

zips, you install them using recovery like any other rom, and it becomes part of the rom, like when you install CM7 it asks if you want an add on with all the google apps in it with your rom, (talk, youtube etc..)
That's not what I'm talking about as that is pretty obvious. Say you had 30 apks you wanted as part of the roms build. There is a place in the rom zip they can go before you flash the rom. That way don't have to make a ton of zips or build 1 large flashable.zip unless you just enjoy doing everything the hard way

If you open the zip file, and go to System > App, you can copy the apk's in there and they will install when you flash the rom.
You may need to re-sign the zip though, or toggle signature verification in clockwork mod.

[Q]How to "edit" downloaded ROM

Hello,
first of all, i do not want offense any of authors who created all those great custom ROMs out there. Im just interested in one thing. After i downloaded and used for a while some custom ROM from forums, ive downloaded some other apps from market and i want to use them instead of those which are on original ROM. Is there any way to remove those parts of that ROM and put as default the new ones and create my own zip (for backup and comfort reasons)? So, some customizing of already custom ROM is my target

If you've already installed the ROM, then titanium backup is your friend. You can uninstall any preinstalled apps that you don't want.
If you want to edit before flashing, unzip the ROM, delete any apps that you do not want and then zip it back and flash.

So when i unzip it i can delete. Can i add apps i want to have included as well? The point is, friend of me (you wont believe but yes, hes more lame than me in this area) asked me if he can get the exact ROM with same apps as i have, so i told him that maybe i can create own ROM to share it to him..

If you have the apk files, yes. You need to zip align it though.
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
You don't have to unzip. Just use something like 7zip, double click the Rom.zip, don't extract. Then add/remove apps from system/app by dragging/ deleting apk files. You can delete other unnecessary things like ringtones and languages in the other system folders. Just don't touch system critical files.
Then close 7zip to update, no need to unzip and re zip and align etc
Some apps don't work in system, don't know why. Also need to check that the extracted system size will fit into your hboot system, otherwise it won't boot.
When meeting around with roms like this, especially important you nandroid backup before flashing if you don't already!
Never unzip to remove apps or anything else for that matter, if you unzip it, and then zip the unpacked directory you wont be able to flash it.
Just open the .zip file and delete whatever you want directly from it.
You can try total commander from market, if you would like to do that directly on your phone.
