[Q] Synergy - Stuck in Baltimore - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Long time lurked, first time poster so I can't post to Development threads.
I have loaded Synergy GingerSense and Nils Business GingerSense, loving them both.
I am having a time and weather issue on Synergy. I live in Central time zone but the phone keeps going to Eastern time -network time option is on. Does not do that on Nils and or the earlier Nils Business Sense rom. The other odd thing is the Sense weather app keeps defaulting me to Baltimore.
I usually load GoLauncher and the weather app associate with that puts me in the correct locations.
WiFi on or off and GPS on or off does not seem to matter.
Also, anyone know if I can get the keyboard from Nils GingerSense rom into Synergy? Several of the other keyboards I have used in the Z Roms either force close or obscure the typing window when replying to email in the GingerSense rooms. Nils version of the keyboard works soooo well.
Thanks for any help you can provide,
Scott

Oh, further info
Time/weather issue on Synergy nightlies 6/4 and 6/5
Stared with complete wipe and Dalvik cache wipe.
Scott

Weird, after flipping back and forth between multiple rooms when I returned to Synergy the time worked it's way out.
Still looking for a way to replace that keyboard without arrows.
Scott

I'm still a n00b on this board as well. Been using Synergy for the past couple weeks and I love it but I've been curious about Nil's Gingersense.
It seems like a pain to wipe and re-install everything for Nil's just to try it out since I've been busy lately. Is there any glaring difference between the two?

[Q] process com.android.mms error

I just received my Incredible last week and came from a Droid Eris... First off, the Incredible IS Incredible compared to the Eris. I rooted and flashed a custom ROM on my Eris later in its life and couldn't resist the itch to root my Incredible. No problems w/ the root and I am currently running Skyraider 3.5 ROM w/ Ziggy's Kernel. Also, I am using the viva cyan theme.
I have random issues with the process com.android.mms error. I only get this error on different occasions when I try to send or receive mms messages. No issues with sms. I have tried numerous things to fix this and am drawing blank. Looks like several people with several different phones have had this problem. Seems to happen with any messaging app.
Does anyone have a solution for this? Btw, I did a nandroid backup, cleared all caches, and reflashed skyraider, my theme, and the kernel. Same problem after doing this.
Another thing to note that is probably unrelated is I am using the SD card from my Eris. Arguably, it might have had things on there that were Eris specific... Not sure if this could be causing an issue.
Thanks in advance for your all's help! This forum rocks!

[Q] Push/Syncing Over Wifi Not Working When Screen is Off

A few weeks ago I noticed that when connected to wifi I wasn't receiving consistent notifications for emails from my Gmail account or my exchange account, but still able to get on the web, check Facebook, and basically do anything else that required a data connection. At the time I was running Incredibly Re-Engineered 2.3. If I received an email while using the phone, I sometimes received a notification, but if the screen was off and the phone was on my desk, then I wouldn't receive a notification. However, the moment I pickup the phone and unlock the screen, I receive an email notification.
I've been experiencing this problem while using multiple ROMs - Redemption 2.4, Incredibly Re-Engineered 2.3 and 2.4, and Incredibly Re-Engineered Z 1.2B (which I'm running right now) - so I don't think the issue is being caused by the ROM. I've made sure that the Wifi sleep policy is set to "never." In Accounts & Sync, "background data" and "auto sync" are both checked, as are all the sync options for my individual accounts. That being said, everything works fine on 3G, regardless of the ROM.
I really don't know what else I can do to fix this problem, and I'm desperate to fix it. Any suggestions?
Bump - 'cause I'm desperate.
Happens to me as well, different ROMs, but same thing.
I find it better, not solved, but better as I flash different kernels with ROMs.
Never happened on stock rooted setup, maybe that's a clue for me...

Thanks for the reply. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who's had this problem. Do you recall what kernel you've had the best luck with??
AOSP FroYo ROM, InvisibleK #18
The AOSP & FroYo kernels and ROMs aren't interchangeable, same with gingerbread, although I believe there's a couple AOSP kernels that work on GB and FroYo.

freedom kernel wifi issue?

Is there a WiFi fix for the Aggressive Freedom(universal) kernel?
I seem to be unable to connect to wifi, in networks it just says "Error" under the WiFi option.
From what I've read in the kernel's thread, it's the undervolting itself that's the issue, seems to cause problems with radio reception overall. So presumably going to a kernel that undervolts less aggressively should fix that, or at least help.
If it's an issue not related to the undervolting, then it'll be up to Lithid to develop a fix. Or you could go and download the source and try your hand at kernel hacking
Alright, I attempted flashing the other 2, more, less, and I tried Golden Monkey, all three of those don't allow my phone to boot... Quite disappointing, lots of work goes behind kernels and I am in no way upset with the kernels, just my phone.
Ima try the freedom stock kernel and see how that goes, but is there any special method to flashing a kernel?
Nothing particularly special. I wipe Cache and Dalvik-cache before flashing a new kernel every time and that generally seems to work ok. With the earlier Freedom kernel versions on MikG I found that flashing the stock kernel, wiping cache/dalvik and then flashing the new kernel worked better than just flashing the new kernel over.
Yeah, IDK what i'm doing wrong but none of the kernels will work for me. The only one that worked was Freedom-Aggressive, but I had no WiFi and it kept going to 1x, so I just a nandroid restore and im gonna stick with whatever synergy is running as a kernel.
I unfortunately don't have any personal experience running Synergy so I can't really offer much advice there. I'm not sure if there's a minimum number of posts requirement, but you could try searching through the thread for the kernel on the Dev. forum, and possibly post in the thread if there's no useful search results.
Yeah I don't have enough posts yet to post in the dev forum, but I have scoured the dev section for synergy and haven't found anything yet.
I am having the same issue I haven't tried more or less but I have tried golden monkey, both aggressive freedom universal, and godmode. They all seem to break wifi and 4g on synergy rls1 with godmode, on my phone. I had some luck with the aggressive freedom godmode kernel however my superuser app, setcpu and benchmark app kept on force closing. Ever since then every time I reflash it, it always breaks wifi. I am somewhat new to all this and have spent days reading through posts and haven't found much of a solution. I would love to figure this out because with either aggressive kernal (godmode or universal) my phone is super fast. I am almost and I mean almost ready kiss wifi goodbye but I would like to find a solution. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I would really like to find a fix for the issue or find someone who may have a way to fix it. IDK though, my evo won't flash any kernels with Synergy RLS1 + godmode. Got it to work once, but after I flashed to the back up since WiFi didn't work, my phone just gets stuck on the htc screen.
I'm just so new to all this, and work so many hours its real hard to spend any time figuring it out. I won't have much time this coming week to do much with testing but I will try and get as much info and kernels tested to find out which work best but so far the 3 I have tried wifi won't start and says error. Sux cuz my phone is so fast with aggressive freedom kernal

Knight,
I would suggest going to synergy rls 1 ( the regular version not godmode) it seems a lot of phones dont like god mode but run smooth as butter on rls 1.
I am running synergy rls 1 with golden monkey universal kernal. no problems with wifi. Cant test 4g as I am not in a 4g area.
Hope this helps
Thanks I will try that later on tonight.

Ok this is the best advice i have read so far.. i was having major issues flashing kernels.. when i could get them to work, wifi was not working and neither was 4g. So i flashed over to synergy +godmode, and it was so slow and sluggish with the stock kernel on my phone.. i tried freedom aggressive, golden monkey, netarchy, and while they all made my phone much more responsive and fast, i still had issues with 4g and wifi.. So today i found this, and flashed over to the regular synergy without godmode.. Already i can tell a huge difference with the stock kernel, it is very fast and responsive. I am flashing over Freedom aggressive to see if wifi and 4g work, crossing my fingers, if not i will then try golden monkey..
*******Update***********
OK merchmonster, you sir are awesome.. I can confirm wifi and 4g working with synergy rls 1 no godmode, and freedom aggressive universal.. Very awesome!!!!!!! If i could thank you a thousand more times i woud!!
I had to replace the freedom aggressive kernel due to my wifi stopped working a few days after flashing so I wanted to put the stock back on after flashing and during reeboot it gets stuck on the white htc evo 4g screen. I wiped dalvic and cache 3 time first. Any ideas?

[Q] CM7, 3g Slowness?

Did some searching, but couldnt find anything....it feels like 3g speeds on CM7 are much slower than Sense based roms...everything else is obviously snappier, but loading pages, refreshing rss feeds, etc, etc seem much faster than CM7. I noticed this today when I was on Nils Business 3.0 for a couple hours of testing, then went back to CM7 nightly...
Thoughts??
I had the same problem.
I had the same problem. For a while I thought that I had been throttled. I tested speeds side by side with my friend's Inc 2, and I was much slower. Flashing my stock Android fixed the problem, but I missed gingerbread. I tried OMGB with no luck. I am now running the debloated leaked OTA and I have flashed the leaked radio. Problem solved. The new ROM is super smooth and really snappy. I hit 2.5 Mbps at work where before I had been continually dropping to 1x speeds. If you flash the new radio, take all recommended precautions. I suspect that you do not want to turn your phone into a paper weight.
i did flash the new radio(07.07), but have not seen any improvement....i might have to go back to a stripped sense rom...kinda sucks...or maybe back to miui.
*228,,2
I forgot to mention that I called *228,,2 to update my roaming profile. It did something because it rebooted the phone.

[Q] Kinged Shooter issue...

Hello all again,
I just flashed Kinged Shooter 2.3 to my Evo 4g, everything seems to work well aside from some seemingly incompatible apps & settings, but I cant seem to get the clock / weather widget to work. It says it is unable to communicate with server or something. I rebooted the device and it worked for maybe a minute then stopped. Its not really a big deal but I personally line the weather clock.
Also, would it be beneficial to flash a different kernel, perhaps one that I can over / underclock? If so, which one would work? Its difficult to find any info on this rom as it seems pretty new. So far I am a fan.
As usual, thanks everyone.
Dan.
try to reflash the rom after you wipe, wipe, wipe, and wide again. Then use a super wiper. Some times it takes 2 trys to get a rom to load without any problems.
