Some time ago I begun testing android with both data on sd and nand, both options were doing fine. There were issues with animations etc but it was usable, switching between apps was ok. It slowly started to be slow. Then my sd card broke, I got a new one and i was rather surprised because it became very fast at animations(like unlocking, closing and openin the ADW tray etc), but it is now extremely slow(like in topic) when trying to run a software, surf the internet or just write something on connecbot while listening to music, which i think was possible and fine. |Any ideas what is the problem?

NAND install? I have very little hands on CM builds since they are kinda slow for me as well. Try the build in my signature.
SD Installs are usually DEAD slow. I suggest you to install on NAND and enjoy blazing fast speed.

Hi there everyone,
I just decided yesterday to root and flash LeeDroid 1.9a, and what a nice ROM.
Then today I was about to transfer my music, and Navigon maps wich is something
like 4 GB's of DATA. But then the trouble begins, as somewhere in the process, the
device locks up, and the only thing to do is removing the battery. I am not really
secure about this, and after the second time it happened, I am getting a little scared
about trying this again. I was trying to do the job connecting the device with the
cable, and setting the device to "diskdrive mode".
The reason I thinks it locks up, is because of the App2SD+ implementation, but as
I am not very experienced with this, I really do not have any proof.
Maybe someone has another more secure method of dealing with file transfers, or
is the only option to remove the SD card and use a cardreader?
I am sorry if anyone needs clarification of anything as english is not my native
language.

hallydamaster
usually it is best to post questions regarding problems with individual roms in the thread specific to that rom.... (a tip for the future )
BUT - usually I prefer to move large chunks of data around by removing the sd card and using a card reader or pc slot. always seems more reliable (and faster as well).
Good luck!
I use LeeDroid as well, often plug-in the phone in data transfer mode but never once see a problem..
Do precautions though, such as both eject usb device (on windows) and change to usb charging (on the phone), before unplugging.. I feel safer when having redundancy
from my Desire + XDA App
Thats also why I am wondering why it went wrong with my device.
Are you using App2SD+ as well, or is it App2SD with Modinstalllocation?
Have you tried transferring large chunks of data, lets say 3-4 GB's?

I'm running dzo's kernel 09/09/10 and dzo's froyo 02/09/10, but I've been experiencing these problems with the CyanogenMod port as well. Basically the phone often becomes sluggish and unresponsive. I've tried using Startup Manager to trim down the running processes, but it doesn't seem to work for me. Taskpanel seems to show a typical free memory level of less than 30MB. I'm not running a huge number of apps, although everything is installed to flash, as is Android.
Is there anything I can do to prevent these slowdowns? I take it installing apps to SD card won't actually free up core memory.
Typically in my experience Froyo or rather CM6 tends to get sluggish after a while, due to more and more processes using up available RAM, I'm not sure this is actually helped by task management, since most tasks simply restart if killed before they have done their job.
It's not just confined to our Kaiser CM6 ports either, I had the same sort of thing on my G1.
I just went back to 2.1 builds and have been happy with my average 30Mb free ram ever since, without task management, and yes, that includes my G1.
Apps2sd will free up space on data storage, however it will not free up RAM sadly, which is where the problem is.
Another thing I have found recently on the froyo that is slowing me down is the stupid download folder on the sd card. The market uses this and if you have a partial download, ever, it seems to cause issues until you delete the files out of there.
Hi,
Since i installed the lastest CM 7.2.0.1 (http://get.cm/?device=bravo&type=stable) and lower versions, i experienced that my sd card makes my phone freeze and reboots
I had these problems quiet allot while listening to music in the train, first i thought it was due the bad connection on the railway system but...
Yesterday i installed VJ CM 10 - 4.1.2 - v3.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1945441)
I did everything what was mentioned in the first post.
Every 2 minutes after flashing the new ROM, My phone got laggy and made a reboot.
Today i took my sd-card out of my phone and suddenly all The problems are gone, my phone runs like butter.
Last months i tried other sd-cards and had still the same problem so my sd-card isn't broken.
I followed the ext4 tutorial for partitioning, so that can't be the problem either. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2125513)
I found on the internet that just a small percentage have these problems, can someone help me with it ?
I hope i was clear in my explanation.
Thanks
Try with another sd-card.
Is your sd-card a class 2?

No, Sandisk 4GB class 6. (sandisk.nl/products/memory-cards/microsd/ultra-class6-for-android/?capacity=4GB)
Do other cards do the same?

Yes, I think it has something to do with the connection, something more hardware related.
I will try once again and let you know.

I did a fresh install, now used a 4gb class 4 sandisk. Everything went well, no lag in the beginning. After installing some apps like: 'facebook, whatsapp, messenger, maps, gmail, etc...' my phone get a hard time to deal with it.
Reboot every 5 mins, bootloops, hard to start up and to get on the startscreen. I don't know what to do. Will try my other sd-card tomorrow, but it will give the same problems

Day 2: Did a new fresh install with the 4gb class 6. Phone is still running laggy, Can't install more then 5 app's..
What about listening to music on train? Anyone could help me with that? It's quiet annoying.
I have flashed many Roms over the last year, Jedi Roms, Infamous Roms, Stock, and most recently Rushing's Shadow Rom. I have stuck to only Touchwiz based Roms since I need WiFi Calling to use my cell phone in my apartment.
The one thing I noticed every time I flashed is that the phone would get significantly slower after I rebooted the phone the first time after I installed a bunch of apps. (Not after the first one I do after the phone has resynch'ed contacts and stuff from google) Additionally, after a couple months the phone would get so slow that I would reflash a new Rom (generally, by this time a new version, but if a new version is not available, I usually switch Roms)
The apps I usually download include:
Google - YouTube, Maps
T-Mobile -Visual Voicemail
Media - Pulse, BeyondPod, a music player
Root stuff - Titanium, Rom toolbox, ES file explorer, etc.
Popular apps - Facebook, twitter, ebay, bank of america, etc.
Are any of these apps known to degrade the performance of your phone over time? Is there a way to diagnose which of these apps are running and when?
A second theory I have is that something on my SD card is either corrupt or not getting wiped properly. Then, these corrupt sectors/files cause performance to decrease over time? Has anybody heard of anything like this? Are there any utilities out there to look for corrupt file. Can anyone reccomend a SD cleaning app that might help if this is the case?
A third theory is that these customized Roms aren't as stable as they are thought to be. I don't believe this is the case since the developers on this forum are much smarter than me, and thoroughly test their roms. Additionally, I have seen this happen with Stock rooted also, which also discounts this theory.
Most of this is spit-balling so that people can see my symptoms (if you had similar symptoms, please share troubleshooting steps and resolution) as well as maybe trigger an idea in someone that has an easy fix to my issue. I like this phone a lot and I don't want to buy a new phone just to avoid these issues. I think this phone is still capable of handling the workload of a 2013 smartphone.
Please let me know any tests/logs that would help you help me solve this problem.
Preface:
I use CM11 now for serval Month and was very happy with it. From time to time i installed a newer nightly and then M5.
Everything was quite stable and the only annoyning thing was the missing app2sd function (more on that later!)
M6 was released and i decided to update my phone. After the update my Phone reboots from time to time. Sometimes 4 times a day sometimes it worked the whole day without a reboot.
I also had the feeling the battery drained more then before. Next Step was update to a newer nightly (2014-05-12) this fixes the reboots! Unfortunally it came up with new problems. Now i don't have notifications and can't access the fastswitches?
The hardwaremenubutton doesn't work in apps anymore but wakes the screen when phone is in standby. Positive sideeffect: Battery now has really longlife (4 days 25% remaining!)
Good but i like to have the originally functions back even if it drains more battery.
Somebody hints for me what to do next?
Iv'e installed M6 again but behavior still is the same.
complete wipe data/cache ?
revert back to M5 ?
dumb me didn't made a backup-2-sd before the initial M6 upgrade!!!
Ohh app2sd Problem i mentioned earlier. Since CM11 there is no App2SD anymore i understand that this is not really a bug it's differently handled in Andriod 4.4+
I read about it on XDA and that with linking the SD Card still can be used by Apps as a example they took GMusic. It has an additional /data/ folder on the sdcard, the app recognizes this and you can store your downloaded googlemusic on the sdcard.
I've checked this with ES Explorer /sdcard/Andriod/data/com.google.android.music/files is empty and /external_sd/Android/data/com.google.android.music/files is filled with my music folder.
My Problem is that Android or CM11 still counts the 5GB to the internal space left, means installing new Apps is impossible because the 5GB music is counted.
Somebody an advice how i can fix this? Another kernel with the old app2sd functionally around?
Thanks a lot for all of your or any answers!
cheers jorval
