[Q] Galaxy S4 mini (intl) LTE I9515 multiple Problems after M6 and newer Nightly' - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Preface:
I use CM11 now for serval Month and was very happy with it. From time to time i installed a newer nightly and then M5.
Everything was quite stable and the only annoyning thing was the missing app2sd function (more on that later!)
M6 was released and i decided to update my phone. After the update my Phone reboots from time to time. Sometimes 4 times a day sometimes it worked the whole day without a reboot.
I also had the feeling the battery drained more then before. Next Step was update to a newer nightly (2014-05-12) this fixes the reboots! Unfortunally it came up with new problems. Now i don't have notifications and can't access the fastswitches?
The hardwaremenubutton doesn't work in apps anymore but wakes the screen when phone is in standby. Positive sideeffect: Battery now has really longlife (4 days 25% remaining!)
Good but i like to have the originally functions back even if it drains more battery.
Somebody hints for me what to do next?
Iv'e installed M6 again but behavior still is the same.
complete wipe data/cache ?
revert back to M5 ?
dumb me didn't made a backup-2-sd before the initial M6 upgrade!!!
Ohh app2sd Problem i mentioned earlier. Since CM11 there is no App2SD anymore i understand that this is not really a bug it's differently handled in Andriod 4.4+
I read about it on XDA and that with linking the SD Card still can be used by Apps as a example they took GMusic. It has an additional /data/ folder on the sdcard, the app recognizes this and you can store your downloaded googlemusic on the sdcard.
I've checked this with ES Explorer /sdcard/Andriod/data/com.google.android.music/files is empty and /external_sd/Android/data/com.google.android.music/files is filled with my music folder.
My Problem is that Android or CM11 still counts the 5GB to the internal space left, means installing new Apps is impossible because the 5GB music is counted.
Somebody an advice how i can fix this? Another kernel with the old app2sd functionally around?
Thanks a lot for all of your or any answers!
cheers jorval

[Q] Massive increase in data usage from android.media

Hi folks,
I'm running MIUI.us 1.12.9 on an Incredible. My average data usage is around ~800mb/month. In December, my usage jumped to nearly 3gb! I installed a traffic monitor, and apparently I'm regularly sucking down ~100mb or more through the process android.media, UID = 10011. The app says this is associated with Download Manager, Downloads, DRM Protected Content Storage, and Media Storage.
I usually update MIUI once a month or so, but I can't associate this symptom with a particular update, since I don't know quite when it started. I've seen only one other thread on this in a Desire forum, and they suspected it has to do with a market update getting blocked. Any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks!
My son's phone is having this same issue.
He used >5gb of data last month. It looks like he does some download sized between 65 and 90mb every day several times a day. This usage pattern coincides with rooting his phone and installing the MIUI rom.
I told him to reflash and if that didn't fix it to use a different ROM.
Have you resolved this???
Well, I resolved it with a big stick.
Consider this a sort of experiment: First, I made a complete nandroid backup, then I manually uninstalled Download Manager, Downloads, DRM Protected Content Storage using Titanium Backup, after backing up each one. Obviously, the Market won't work anymore, but the data usage is gone! I don't really recommend this solution, but it did "work."
In reality, I went back to a pre-MIUI nandroid backup of CM7.1. Like I said, I suspect this has something to do with a persistent update that MIUI is somehow blocking, but I wasn't patient enough to figure out exactly what was happening.
Your phone might be trying to update OTA. It will be 87mb file in /cache/download when its downloading.
I would check the fingerprint in build.prop to see if its from latest official update.

Same issue here, Running KelLmsking 2.9.5 MIUI on a Nexus S, and this bunch of apps downloaded over 700 MB of data in 2 days!! I noticed it before it went over my 2 GB limit and bankrupted me, but now I'm going to have to not use mobile data for a few days, till the billing cycle is over, or format to some other rom!

[Q] Strange behavior of "SD Card" partition

Hey all,
i am having some strange problems with my SD card on my Gnex.
A while ago i started with Android Revolution HD, then i swtiched to AOKP.
At the beginning i had no problems. Everything went smooth.
But after i upgraded AOKP the 4th or 5th time i experienced something strange.
My gallery only found the pics i made after the flash. The other pics in the DCIM folder were there but the gallery app didn't show them.
No biggy i thought, maybe its fixed in the next AOKP version. But when Milestone 2 was released it wasn't fixed. At this time i wanted to try a different and used FoxHound Rom and i was surprised that everything was working normally there.
Then 2 or 3 weeks later i switched back to AOKP and the problem was there again and still exist.
Later i wanted to try the n7player and guess what, the player told me i dont have any mp3 files on my device when i scanned my device. But i could select them manually and n7player played it.
QuickPic only shows me folders when i select "show hidden".
Is there any way to fix that ?! I already tried to delete the folders and create them again but this didn't help.
Thanks for your help.

[Q] apps gone after reboot

Im running a stock hox with the latest update. Before the last update I had the problem I was hopeing that after this new update it would change but unfortunate itdoesn't.
I have about 12 pages of apps. I spend at least 3 hours a day avarage on this phone if not more. Love the device best phone I had so far but. When I was on vacation last may. I got the issue where my sdcard was gone. So I called HTC and they told me to reboot using that 3 second hard reboot p whatever its called. It did the trick and thusfar I have used this phone quite a lot. But since about 2 months I had the problem that after installing a minor update I had to reboot. After reboot my apps were gone. I lost 70% of my downloaded apps. After searching in a couple of settings I found that if I openend settings where you can copy apps to you and such to make room. I make this app scan for apps to move or remove. And I close it. After that the apps show. After the last update still nothing changed. Other then that I now get issues with my memory to. I can't even move a app that's 6megs big to my sd card even though the diskusage app shows about 10gigs free. Here comes another weird part in the disk usage part of settings its shows even 14 gigs free but that's not correct either. Since I get these problems to. I'm was hopeing to find a solution.
So my main concern. How come after reboot I lose all my apps.
Hope somebody can make any sense I do had to add I tried finding a solution but i couldn't find anything usefull. or anything about this for that matter thanks in advance for any help.
P.s. I seem to have ended up in general instead of q&a could a mod maybe put this post in the right place. Thanks!
Similar problem is also encountered, in which all applications in sdcard are disappeared after rebooting.
Require 1 or more times of reboot to solve it.
Need a permanent solution to this problem as well.

[Q] Performance Decreasing: After first reboot and over time

I have flashed many Roms over the last year, Jedi Roms, Infamous Roms, Stock, and most recently Rushing's Shadow Rom. I have stuck to only Touchwiz based Roms since I need WiFi Calling to use my cell phone in my apartment.
The one thing I noticed every time I flashed is that the phone would get significantly slower after I rebooted the phone the first time after I installed a bunch of apps. (Not after the first one I do after the phone has resynch'ed contacts and stuff from google) Additionally, after a couple months the phone would get so slow that I would reflash a new Rom (generally, by this time a new version, but if a new version is not available, I usually switch Roms)
The apps I usually download include:
Google - YouTube, Maps
T-Mobile -Visual Voicemail
Media - Pulse, BeyondPod, a music player
Root stuff - Titanium, Rom toolbox, ES file explorer, etc.
Popular apps - Facebook, twitter, ebay, bank of america, etc.
Are any of these apps known to degrade the performance of your phone over time? Is there a way to diagnose which of these apps are running and when?
A second theory I have is that something on my SD card is either corrupt or not getting wiped properly. Then, these corrupt sectors/files cause performance to decrease over time? Has anybody heard of anything like this? Are there any utilities out there to look for corrupt file. Can anyone reccomend a SD cleaning app that might help if this is the case?
A third theory is that these customized Roms aren't as stable as they are thought to be. I don't believe this is the case since the developers on this forum are much smarter than me, and thoroughly test their roms. Additionally, I have seen this happen with Stock rooted also, which also discounts this theory.
Most of this is spit-balling so that people can see my symptoms (if you had similar symptoms, please share troubleshooting steps and resolution) as well as maybe trigger an idea in someone that has an easy fix to my issue. I like this phone a lot and I don't want to buy a new phone just to avoid these issues. I think this phone is still capable of handling the workload of a 2013 smartphone.
Please let me know any tests/logs that would help you help me solve this problem.

SDCard bug? or something else

Well, the story goes:
My wife´s SGH-i474 (AT&T) had 4.1.2 installed, crappy reception, launcher buggy (it created more desktops everytime she wanted to delete one), and overall the phone felt laggy. She plays just 3 games, Farmville 2 CS, Candy Crush and Clash of Clans (she´s actually pretty good this one). Not too long ago, since the phone was only rooted to install greenify and link2sd to freeze the bloatware, she found out that it was possible to update the phone to a newer release; and I saw that there was an official OTA to 4.4.2, but since we are overseas, the stock update won´t go (it said that the phone was updated).
I dived into google and I saw that here on xda there was a method to get it into 4.4.2. And me, being the android guy and wanted to get lucky I tried it and succedded, but with one detail...
You see, I mentioned the games for a particular reason, 2 ouf of 3 work, Farmville for some reason doesn´t load (it gets to the loading screen and stays there at 0%). I left it overnight, with the option of leaving the screen on while charging, so that the phone won´t "sleep" to see if the game need to download a file and it was taking a long time, but no, 10 hours later it was still at 0%.
After that, I decided to install Logcat to see what was going on while the game at launch time. Surpringsinly, logcat was unable to save the log to the "sdcard". , another dive into google revealed that there was indeed a bug on the sdcard permissions (never knew that this kind of thing would happen to the gigantic Google, OMG ), and there were several fixes available, which I tried, even manually (just to see that the apps did indeed what they advertised, but to be true, the stock rom that I used had this fix already installed, thank you Mr even... or who ever went into the trouble of making all those files and instructions that helped me get into 4.4.2, I just don´t recall the nickname, but I do remember he has a beard )
Back to the point, I find it odd, that logcat was unable to write to the sdcard, and more odd that just a game was unable to work, because it worked before the update, but logcat doesn´t show anything related to "permission denied" to the Zynga app, nor to logcat itself when it wanted to write to the sdcard.
Since I am just a poweruser, I already wiped to stock and nothing changed, I tried another logcat application with the same result, so what I believe is that maybe the apps have something wrong, because I didn´t find anyone complaining about the stock rooted rom that I used. Besides that it was stock, and just rooted, I just wanted to know if anyone happened to have this problem and if they were able to fix it or have a workaround it.
Just to clarify, the phone works perfectly, and all the 51 apps that has installed (yep, she´s kinda a tech girl herself) work, except FV (which won´t go past 0% at the loading screen) and those to logcat applications that I used. (Catlog and Logviewer Lite, which can´t save logs to the sdcard), even the camera works and saved pics to the sdcard withouth problem (one of the things I saw reading is that maybe the camera would stop working but nope, just fine).
If you have any ideas, please, express yourself.
The kitkat update for google did in fact make it to where nothing could be written to sd. Google trying to get rid of sd cards for some stupid reason. Anyway, if the phone is rooted, try the xposed app with the external sd modules. Took care of my problems with that, not on my S3 because enewman17 is so damn awesome with his S3Rx rom that he took care of that, but on my Note 10.1 and Tab 4 fixed it right up
I see, could you be more specific about the xposed app, the name in fact, a search rendered quite a few, an I am not native english speaker.
I mustbe cursed hehe, I found the "app", is a framework, but guess what? I am unable to install because it is unable to write to the sdcard hehehe, I will give a try to the custom rom.
To mr Enewman, you sir, you deserve a cold beer, my wife is now happy, just a little glitch with the google keyboard at the first boot but after that excellent.

It is an outstanding ROM for sure. Glad it's working.
