Unlock directly to camara? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
I'd love to be able to take pics, without unlocking the phone. For example when walking around and you see something you'd like to take a pic of, it takes a bit of time to first unlock, find the icon for the camera and start it up. Is it in any way possible to make an app that opens the camera when long-pressing the camera button and then when you push the back button or turn off the phone, it would go back to being locked. Even though it's unlikely to happen, I'm guessing it would have to enable the proximity censor, if you long press it, just to make sure it's not by accident when in a pocket, bag or something.
Hope this is possible.
Cheers
Flemming

if you use widgetlocker you can make a slider on the lockscreen with a shortcut to the camera

Phone answers itself when removing from pocket

I keep my desire in my shirt pocket with screen facing my body. The problem is touch screen seems to work through my shirt, so when the phone is ringing the motion of me removing the phone pulls down on the lock and answers the phone.
Is there anything that can be done to reduce the screen sensitivity so it doesn't work through my shirt touching my skin.
Thanks
Yeah have the screen facing outwards LOL.
put it in a case for protection too like the pdair pouch or the sena ultra slim pouch
stitch a layer of thick material e.g. denim, onto the inside of your shirt pocket
Dude, its android (freedom). Change your lockscreen to something else
I think the app is called lockboot.
It should give you the option of default android lock, or iphone lookalike lock, or a few others...
Anything that unlocks with a side swipe instead of a down swipe should fix your problem.

Sorry mate, i was a bit quick. Only one "o"; "Lockbot". I havent tried it yet though, but since it changes the lockscreen i assume it changes your answer swipe too...
I don't like having the screen facing outwards so that's a no no.
The thing is I like the default lock screen and didn't want to make my phone look like a iphone copy, was hoping I could reduce the sensitivity of the touch screen.
I will look at some other lock screens hopefully there are some that don't look too iphoneish
Thanks
I totally agree with the iphone unlock being ugly, but I do think the default android lock is nice, and it has a right angle swipe...
Dunno about the sensitivity change, reckon that might affect the whole phone. But someone here in the forum can probably offer some advice. Good luck.
so you have you phone in your shirt pocket, when you pull it out it unlocks, so you have the phone bottom down.
if you put it bottom up then when you pull it out of your pocket the touch will make it slide from bottom to top which will not unlock it right? there is your solution.
+ there is the possibility of making the "phone pull out motion" very cool when you pull it out with the bottom up.

That would probably trigger automatically setting the phone to busy and disconnecting the call or forwarding to voice mail, I think that's what sliding up on the lock screen does.
How about dont put it in your shirt pocket?

LockBot have many lockscreens, iPhones, Nexus One, Eris, .. you can even make your own customized lockscreen in that program, pretty nice, have a go at it, its worth it

Thats right, this way i have cancelled 4 out of 5 recent phone calls.
The default screen unlock in the Desire is the most stupid i've ever seen. If you put your phone upwards in your pocket, you answer all calls by grabbing your phone from your pocket, if you put it in upside down, you cancel the call automatically.
If only 1 engineer at HTC called another with the phone in his pocket, they would have noticed this. It's 'HTC quietly stupid' on this one. I have installed Lock 2.0 for now, but will keep looking for a better solution.
Can't turn it upside-down as it will then reject the call. will give the lock app a go later tonight.
pwhooftman if you find a good lock app then please let me know.
thanks

Having recieved a call while using lockbot I still have the same problem.
When using lockbot and you recieve a call the phone unlocks itself and I see the slide to answer desire screen which was my initial problem.
It looks like I need to replace the slide to answer bit rathe rthan the locking sceen.
Can somebody who has lockbot confirm that you still get the slide to answer even with lockbot in use.
Thanks

I had the same experience. Lock 2.0 gives me a iphone like left to right slider for unlocking. When i receive a call , i get the (traditional) green "answer" and red "Deny" buttons. So no unlock slider when receiving a call, but onscreen buttons which are far less accidentally pressed.
No Lock
I had this preoccupation also and installed the No Lock app. This way I also get the green/red buttons.
I gave up on lockbot as the phone would not fully go to sleep mode, I could wake it pressing any key.
Gone back to the standard lock screen for now and I just take the phone out of my pocket very carefully.
Sully
Im switch from WinMo to Desire and Im very angry because my every call when I take phone from case(case which came with TyTnII and phone is horizontal position) is droped. Im prety shure that I do not touch screen with finger on hand, because I take phone on top and bottom and take it out from case.
This is realy annoying...
I've sent HTC an e-mail to, at least, make this problem known. Maybe they will put an anti-pocket screen lock in next firmwares.
I've used the No Lock app to disable lock. Unfortunately it possible to wake the phone by pressing any key.
Is there any application that disables screenlock but locks the keys (besides power, off course)?

What's the point of the lockscreen?

"Locking" the keypad on my old candy bar phone made sense - if you didn't, buttons were always pressed and people were sometimes dialed from your pocket. I can also see the case for a lockscreen on the iPhone, for example, since maybe its home button can be pressed accidentally as well. However, for the EVO and for the Pre I had before it, the only way to turn on the device is via the power button up top, which is surely not going to be pressed on accident (especially with the EVO where it's only slightly raised and must be pressed deliberately). Because of this, the lockscreen serves practically no purpose, except to add an extra redundant step before using your phone. It might be more useful if it showed all recent notifications on it webOS-style, but since it only shows the most recent one, it's not very good for that either, and it isn't a big deal to pull down the shade once you're in the phone.
So, unless you actually secure your phone with a password/gesture/PIN, is there really any point to the lockscreen?
Im going to go on a guess here but the purpose of the lock screen is , in the event that the phone is in your pocket "Granted highly unlikely" the button does get pushed another process of slidding your finger down the screen to unlock would also be needed . I believe the phone sitting in a pocket or a purse or case it would be even more difficult for the sliding motion on the screen to happen . Just an extra safe guard more or less .
You can use SwitchPro Widget to disable the lockscreen if you want.
Because its part of Android and the Evo isn't the only Android phone.
...yep.

Is there an app or a way to just use the pattern lock as opposed to the slide down lock? I'd rather just have the pattern lock when unlocking rather than the swipe screen lock and then a pattern lock.
Also no lock works like a charm.

This is one reason. The other is simply because iPhone has it and it is Android competition, there is no denying that the development tries to outdo each other.
I do understand the OP's reasoning, with the build of HTC EVO 4G, lockscreen is not necessary. On the other hand, it is advised to lock your screen with either PIN or pattern just in case you lose your device. It is part of personal security responsibility.

I'm using the latest CM6 nightly ( so i have the Vanilla lockscreen ) & if i have a pattern set, that is what i see when i press the power button, & after entering the pattern, my phone is unlocked. No need to swipe before or after.
Not sure what ROM you're using, but if it possible to use the Vanilla Lockscreen, you can probably get the same result.

Stock Sense, unrooted. If you put the pattern on you first have to unlock the screen before you can do the pattern. It is pretty retarded.
My phone's screen turns on occasionally for certain notifications and alerts, and if it isn't for the lockscreen, in the 30 seconds it takes for the screen to turn off again, i can easily butt-dial someone or do something else stupid.

I too was unable to get this to work. I saw no setting to disable the slick to unlock.
you would really think it would be near impossible to butt-dial someone on the EVO, but leave it to me to prove to be the exception to the rule, I had the lock screen enabled even!!! and somehow in my pocket I called the same guy like 3 times over on the drive home one day... lucky it was a good friend of mine.
Come on, we all know why: Because the iPhone had one. If every other phone didn't have a lock screen, imagine the kind of elitist harassment we'd get from the Apple camp.
"Oh, your screen just comes on? Strange. My iPhone has a lock screen. I just swipe my finger and it unlocks, it's way cool. I can even put a lock code on it. But, no, your phone is cute. I like the little robot guy."
And so forth.

It may be different depending on which ROM you're running, but I was able to get the pattern unlock without the slide unlock with CM6 RC1 using this method:
- Settings
- Location and Security
- Set up screen lock
- Pattern (add pattern here)

[Request]Locks in Serial

One thing that I liked about ICS is quick access to camera from the lock screen - but it wasn't secure. You can only select one method of locking from the Security list in Settings.
Is there a way (current, or can someone create) to use some of those locking mechanisms in serial instead of selecting just one?
Current from Lock Screen:
Camera <--Swipe --> Use Phone
(no security) OR
Face Unlock --> Use Phone
(no camera)OR
Pin --> Use Phone
(no camera)
Requested:
For example using on the lock screen:
Camera <--Swipe --> Face Unlock -> use Phone
(the camera can start to load as soon as the power button is hit, so by the time you swipe either direction, it's loaded and ready)
I tried Go Locker but it was too heavy and created a lot of lag.
Wouldn't do any good, once in the camera app hitting home would take you home even if there is a lock screen password/pin/other lock mechanism

BUMP.
I also REALLY miss this feature. Just think of the advantages.
I use my phoen a lot just to see what time it is, because I don't where a watch every day. Everytime I turn the screen up it fires up the front cam which can't really be that good for the battery. Plus, it's such a burden having to choose between fast acces to the camera and NO security or any kind of security but no fast access to the camera.
Anyone know of an app that can do this? Slide left: Face Unlock. Slide right: Camera.
And to vlx600d: that's not true. Phones with ICS have the same feature. Unlock to camera, take pictures. Press the home button and you get back to the unlock screen.

This needs framework changes that deal with security, etc. No app can change how the os handles the face unlock process. You can try posting in gummy/aokp/cm9 threads. Maybe one of the developers would accept to make this mod.
I really dont think this would work without some serious reworking of the OS.
i remember there being a bug with a phone (cant remember which one) where, when using a secure lock screen, they could press the "emergency call" button, then just hit the home button and they were in. same concept here. if you could do this, once in the camera app, all you would have to do is hit "home" and you would be in.
The whole reason is fit fast access. Its no longer fast if you have to put in a code or wait for it to recognize it. Thus defeating the purpose to have the option. I understand the complaint though, its definitely not fair that you can't go straight to it if you want your phone safe.

Side Lock Button

So I found out real quick last night while playing with my 6 month old baby that this watch needs some sort of lock. When she was squirming around in my arms the Google Voice commands opened a dozen times and she tried to share some of my notifications and reply with Voice for a couple of text messages. And this was all within the first 15 minutes.
I was wondering if there was anyone else experiencing this and their thoughts. I saw a couple of lock screen apps out there but I was thinking with the Moto 360 it would be really nice if that side button was a lock / unlock button for when you want the watch to remain in the ambient mode and not wake up from screen taps. I know that the button switches the watch to ambient mode but it does not seem to lock the screen from touches. Might be a nice idea for future implementation as I have not used the side button for anything yet as the screen wakes when I lift the watch to my face.
What are your thoughts?
this exact thing happened to me yesterday! I have an 8 month old and the watch just attracted him lol
I don't have a creature, but I too would like for the watch to only activate when I want it to. I want to have to press the button to turn the screen on.
Have you guys tried Showear or Lockable? Both are free but Lockable charges for the pin unlock feature.
I don't want just a screen lock, but a lock that completely keeps the screen turned off until I press the hard button on the side. (To not waste battery when I definitely don't want the screen to turn on by touch and/or accelerometer). Does an app exist for this?

That is exactly what I am looking for. Something that keeps it in the Ambient mode until I press the side button and locking the touch screen. It seems like an easy enough option because the button really has no other use as you can turn the screen on and off by tilting your hand. So it would probably serve better as a locking button.

I have come across an app called Baby Time which locks the watch and only allows a specific swipe gesture of up twice and then down twice. Kinda gets the task done but it would be a lot simpler if it was activated by the button on the Moto 360. Another comment is that it replaces the watch face you have with one created in the app which for some reason does not seem to have an option out of the 24 hour clock. I will use for now but I am hopeful that something better will come along. Also have to start the app by saying "Start Baby TIme"

Any way to disable the proximity sensor?

I'm having issues with the screen not turning back on after a call or even listening to audio messages. I have to relock and then unlock to get it to work, very annoying.

Could someone recommend me an app or a module?

You along with a bunch of us... ota messed it up
Good to know, I'm not the only one. Doesn't seem related to screen protector.
Really wish I can disable the proximity sensor for now.
I guess I came to the wrong thread. I don't have any issues like that or at least I don't notice it because I is the power button to turn the screen in/off all the time and I set my lock screen to not relock the phone for 5 minutes or something like that. That way I don't gotta enter my unlock code. There also is a setting which is supposed to keep your phone unlocked as long as you don't set it down. There also is a setting that keeps your phone from locking if you are within range of a Bluetooth (headseat maybe) device. I dunno try some of those options maybe you won't need to type your code in as much.
Personally I came here because I am looking for a way to completely disable my proximity sensor. I absolutely hate them on all phones. How stupid is it that they put the proximity sensor I right up next to where you have to put your hand if you want to pull down the menu bar??? It's like I go to pull down the menu bar - screen off. ****! Power button, slide open the lock screen (no code needed). Pull menu bar - screen off ****! Power.... Slide....menu bar - screen off. Of course it only does that during calls however that's a pretty annoying time because you're usually focused on other things and not wanting to **** with the screen going on and off.
Who the needs a proximity sensor to detect one's face anyway? I just click the power button every time I put the phone to my ear. Any time I don't do that, I run the risk of my cheek pressing the mute button for the 9000th time in my life. I do love Android though.

So it works too well for you with your finger but not enough for your face to prevent muting? LOL. Sorry never had that problem. I just avoid the middle if I had to get to the notifications during a call.
It happens often when I'm trying to toggle BT because my BT icon is directly under it.... For example. Anyway, I don't find it useful to even have an proximity sensor. That's why I stumbled in here, my search query was the exact title. I'm not really experiencing the problem the others were talking about though....

Who needs a proximity sensor? Really? You basically answered your own question. To turn off the screen when you put it to your face so that your face doesn't press anything on the screen. Having to press the power button every time you put the phone to your face and then press it again every time you take it away from your face would suck.

Yeah.....no basically pressing the power button is where it's at. It the again I'm not one who likes everything done for me. Absolutely NO PHONE I've ever owned has had a proximity sensor that was worth a ****. They all, at one time or another, allow the screen to wake up subsequently letting the microphone mute button to enable. The mute button is another piece of Android trash that needs redesigning. It is not often that mute is needed so why not out that in a drop-down menu or something since it inevitably gets pressed during calls due to a ****y proximity sensor and Screen wake setup.
I also drive a manual transmission car. Actually the last 5 cars I've owned have been manual shifted. When YOU are in 100% control of your devices, there are certain niceities which are otherwise unavailable. But that's only if you're the type who doesn't gotta have everything done for them.
As far as you go buddy, if you like the proximity sensor that's fine. Personally I don't ****ing care what you like. thanks for a wasted Fred post which contacted my email to have me come back here to tell you what a waste of time that was thanks.

No man, the point is that you quoted me so that I would be alerted to your message but didn't even attempt to input anything useful to the conversation. My post is actually a request, with explaination, asking if there is a way to do something. You on the other hand made a comment. This is XDA Developer's Forum. This isn't Facebook or YouTube where everyone has some smartass **** they can't resist saying. We is this for information. So again, thanks for your Nothing input.

I quoted you because you're so upset people don't agree with you that you can't express your frustration withOUT asterisk words. You got your answer:
"It's an option to disable proximity in gravitybox."
Move along.

Sure that's fine, be one of those snide Facebook commenters always gotta add their smartass quip or opinion like it's an itch you can't help but scratch. I just think it's pathetic that you get some kind of satisfaction out of that. But..... you know, everybody needs to feel like they make an impact in the world. Have a fufulling life. ?

So I assume you have earbuds, or if not, you can get some really cheap earbuds from the gas station, and when needed, you can plug it in, and it will register that it has earbuds in and will light up again, disabling the proximity sensor. You can leave it in as well, until you need it to talk, unless it will work while calling. This should work, I haven't personally tried it.

I'm having issues with the screen not turning back on after a call or even listening to audio messages. I have to relock and then unlock to get it to work, very annoying.
I'm on 8.1, on magisk with xposed.
Could someone recommend me an app or a module?

Hi,
Hope you managed to solve the issue.
If you haven't then
1. Install sensor disable from xposed repo. It's an old app so there are a few bugs when you try to remove the sensor as such.
2. Buy the Pro version or use lucky patcher to disable in app purchases for Sensor Disabler.
3. Go to the settings of Sensor Disabler and blacklist the apps that you don't want the proximity to work on.(I had problems with my WhatsApp. But it works perfectly now.)
