Side Lock Button - Moto 360

So I found out real quick last night while playing with my 6 month old baby that this watch needs some sort of lock. When she was squirming around in my arms the Google Voice commands opened a dozen times and she tried to share some of my notifications and reply with Voice for a couple of text messages. And this was all within the first 15 minutes.
I was wondering if there was anyone else experiencing this and their thoughts. I saw a couple of lock screen apps out there but I was thinking with the Moto 360 it would be really nice if that side button was a lock / unlock button for when you want the watch to remain in the ambient mode and not wake up from screen taps. I know that the button switches the watch to ambient mode but it does not seem to lock the screen from touches. Might be a nice idea for future implementation as I have not used the side button for anything yet as the screen wakes when I lift the watch to my face.
What are your thoughts?

this exact thing happened to me yesterday! I have an 8 month old and the watch just attracted him lol

I don't have a creature, but I too would like for the watch to only activate when I want it to. I want to have to press the button to turn the screen on.

Have you guys tried Showear or Lockable? Both are free but Lockable charges for the pin unlock feature.

I don't want just a screen lock, but a lock that completely keeps the screen turned off until I press the hard button on the side. (To not waste battery when I definitely don't want the screen to turn on by touch and/or accelerometer). Does an app exist for this?

Have you tried to shower with it on?
It thinks the water is you touching it, and it goes crazy!

That is exactly what I am looking for. Something that keeps it in the Ambient mode until I press the side button and locking the touch screen. It seems like an easy enough option because the button really has no other use as you can turn the screen on and off by tilting your hand. So it would probably serve better as a locking button.

I do not shower with a watch on so I have not tried it. I am sure it would go crazy. Another reason for a lock button.

Yea a lock app or something would be nice mine is so sensitive I could sneeze and it turns it on..hope something comes about soon

I have come across an app called Baby Time which locks the watch and only allows a specific swipe gesture of up twice and then down twice. Kinda gets the task done but it would be a lot simpler if it was activated by the button on the Moto 360. Another comment is that it replaces the watch face you have with one created in the app which for some reason does not seem to have an option out of the 24 hour clock. I will use for now but I am hopeful that something better will come along. Also have to start the app by saying "Start Baby TIme"

Lol!

Phone answers itself when removing from pocket

I keep my desire in my shirt pocket with screen facing my body. The problem is touch screen seems to work through my shirt, so when the phone is ringing the motion of me removing the phone pulls down on the lock and answers the phone.
Is there anything that can be done to reduce the screen sensitivity so it doesn't work through my shirt touching my skin.
Thanks
Yeah have the screen facing outwards LOL.
put it in a case for protection too like the pdair pouch or the sena ultra slim pouch
stitch a layer of thick material e.g. denim, onto the inside of your shirt pocket
Dude, its android (freedom). Change your lockscreen to something else
I think the app is called lockboot.
It should give you the option of default android lock, or iphone lookalike lock, or a few others...
Anything that unlocks with a side swipe instead of a down swipe should fix your problem.

Sorry mate, i was a bit quick. Only one "o"; "Lockbot". I havent tried it yet though, but since it changes the lockscreen i assume it changes your answer swipe too...
I don't like having the screen facing outwards so that's a no no.
The thing is I like the default lock screen and didn't want to make my phone look like a iphone copy, was hoping I could reduce the sensitivity of the touch screen.
I will look at some other lock screens hopefully there are some that don't look too iphoneish
Thanks
I totally agree with the iphone unlock being ugly, but I do think the default android lock is nice, and it has a right angle swipe...
Dunno about the sensitivity change, reckon that might affect the whole phone. But someone here in the forum can probably offer some advice. Good luck.
so you have you phone in your shirt pocket, when you pull it out it unlocks, so you have the phone bottom down.
if you put it bottom up then when you pull it out of your pocket the touch will make it slide from bottom to top which will not unlock it right? there is your solution.
+ there is the possibility of making the "phone pull out motion" very cool when you pull it out with the bottom up.

That would probably trigger automatically setting the phone to busy and disconnecting the call or forwarding to voice mail, I think that's what sliding up on the lock screen does.
How about dont put it in your shirt pocket?

LockBot have many lockscreens, iPhones, Nexus One, Eris, .. you can even make your own customized lockscreen in that program, pretty nice, have a go at it, its worth it

Thats right, this way i have cancelled 4 out of 5 recent phone calls.
The default screen unlock in the Desire is the most stupid i've ever seen. If you put your phone upwards in your pocket, you answer all calls by grabbing your phone from your pocket, if you put it in upside down, you cancel the call automatically.
If only 1 engineer at HTC called another with the phone in his pocket, they would have noticed this. It's 'HTC quietly stupid' on this one. I have installed Lock 2.0 for now, but will keep looking for a better solution.
Can't turn it upside-down as it will then reject the call. will give the lock app a go later tonight.
pwhooftman if you find a good lock app then please let me know.
thanks

Having recieved a call while using lockbot I still have the same problem.
When using lockbot and you recieve a call the phone unlocks itself and I see the slide to answer desire screen which was my initial problem.
It looks like I need to replace the slide to answer bit rathe rthan the locking sceen.
Can somebody who has lockbot confirm that you still get the slide to answer even with lockbot in use.
Thanks

I had the same experience. Lock 2.0 gives me a iphone like left to right slider for unlocking. When i receive a call , i get the (traditional) green "answer" and red "Deny" buttons. So no unlock slider when receiving a call, but onscreen buttons which are far less accidentally pressed.
No Lock
I had this preoccupation also and installed the No Lock app. This way I also get the green/red buttons.
I gave up on lockbot as the phone would not fully go to sleep mode, I could wake it pressing any key.
Gone back to the standard lock screen for now and I just take the phone out of my pocket very carefully.
Sully
Im switch from WinMo to Desire and Im very angry because my every call when I take phone from case(case which came with TyTnII and phone is horizontal position) is droped. Im prety shure that I do not touch screen with finger on hand, because I take phone on top and bottom and take it out from case.
This is realy annoying...
I've sent HTC an e-mail to, at least, make this problem known. Maybe they will put an anti-pocket screen lock in next firmwares.
I've used the No Lock app to disable lock. Unfortunately it possible to wake the phone by pressing any key.
Is there any application that disables screenlock but locks the keys (besides power, off course)?

[Q] Anyway to get smart stay and some of the other stock features on a CM10?

I'm running CM10, and I was curious if there was anyway to get Smart stay on the device? I got so used to not having to tap my screen that I forgot about it and it shuts off.
Try this

There's quite a few smart stay-alike apps in the market you can try, such as ISeeYou

I agree. I don't miss it. It never being there is better than only working 50% of the time due to lighting, angle, etc.
What does drive me a little bonkers about the backlight on CM10 is that when you have it set to go off at say 30 seconds, but the phone not to lock until 60 seconds, hitting home when the backlight goes off closes the current app instead of just waking up the screen. You have to use the power button to do this, but I don't think I'll ever get used to that!

Yeah, I've noticed that too. I have my screenlock delay set to 60 seconds after the screen automatically turns off (vs manual powerbutton), and pressing home wakes the device but also pauses whichever app was running. Should be a simple fix... just have to eat the homekey event after waking instead of passing it along the chain.

[Q] Waking The Watch

Does anyone know if it is possible to only have the watch wake up with the pushing of the button? I'll be getting my 360 later today, and my concern is that it will constantly be waking up while I am just going about my daily activities. It would be nice if there were an option to disable to accelerometer for when one only wants the watch to wake with the physical push of the button.

Not sure if there is an actual way to do this, though I will say that it is sometimes difficult for me to get the watch to wake up when not in ambient mode, and I found myself often times having to tap the screen to turn it on. I haven't had any issues with the watch turning on or doing something without me intentionally doing it; sure it will turn on the screen for a bit if I'm running somewhere, but generally will go right back to sleep if the watch is held with my hands at my sides.

i'd like to disable the stock turn n twist and switch it for an aggressive multi twist to wake.
hopefully we will be able to customize some of the accelerometer settings

I wouldn't worry too much about the battery life. I found that the first couple days I had mine that the battery was scary. It seemed like it would only last half the day. Then, all of a sudden it just got better. I don't think I was using it that much more the first couple days and this was also before the update. I easily get through a full 18 hour day with quite a bit of usage.
However, I would like to see more customization options like you suggest. I'd actually like to be able to customize what the button does. I would like to be able to customize what action the short press and long press does and I would like to have that further broken down into picking the actions for those presses when the watch is awake or asleep. For example, a long press currently takes you to settings which I hardly ever go to, but I go to the "Start app" screen all the time. I wish I could make the long press bring up the "start app" screen. But maybe a long press while the watch is asleep would bring up a specific app instead.

Any way to disable the proximity sensor?

I'm having issues with the screen not turning back on after a call or even listening to audio messages. I have to relock and then unlock to get it to work, very annoying.
I'm on 8.1, on magisk with xposed.
Could someone recommend me an app or a module?

You along with a bunch of us... ota messed it up
Good to know, I'm not the only one. Doesn't seem related to screen protector.
Really wish I can disable the proximity sensor for now.
I guess I came to the wrong thread. I don't have any issues like that or at least I don't notice it because I is the power button to turn the screen in/off all the time and I set my lock screen to not relock the phone for 5 minutes or something like that. That way I don't gotta enter my unlock code. There also is a setting which is supposed to keep your phone unlocked as long as you don't set it down. There also is a setting that keeps your phone from locking if you are within range of a Bluetooth (headseat maybe) device. I dunno try some of those options maybe you won't need to type your code in as much.
Personally I came here because I am looking for a way to completely disable my proximity sensor. I absolutely hate them on all phones. How stupid is it that they put the proximity sensor I right up next to where you have to put your hand if you want to pull down the menu bar??? It's like I go to pull down the menu bar - screen off. ****! Power button, slide open the lock screen (no code needed). Pull menu bar - screen off ****! Power.... Slide....menu bar - screen off. Of course it only does that during calls however that's a pretty annoying time because you're usually focused on other things and not wanting to **** with the screen going on and off.
Who the needs a proximity sensor to detect one's face anyway? I just click the power button every time I put the phone to my ear. Any time I don't do that, I run the risk of my cheek pressing the mute button for the 9000th time in my life. I do love Android though.

So it works too well for you with your finger but not enough for your face to prevent muting? LOL. Sorry never had that problem. I just avoid the middle if I had to get to the notifications during a call.
It happens often when I'm trying to toggle BT because my BT icon is directly under it.... For example. Anyway, I don't find it useful to even have an proximity sensor. That's why I stumbled in here, my search query was the exact title. I'm not really experiencing the problem the others were talking about though....

Who needs a proximity sensor? Really? You basically answered your own question. To turn off the screen when you put it to your face so that your face doesn't press anything on the screen. Having to press the power button every time you put the phone to your face and then press it again every time you take it away from your face would suck.

Yeah.....no basically pressing the power button is where it's at. It the again I'm not one who likes everything done for me. Absolutely NO PHONE I've ever owned has had a proximity sensor that was worth a ****. They all, at one time or another, allow the screen to wake up subsequently letting the microphone mute button to enable. The mute button is another piece of Android trash that needs redesigning. It is not often that mute is needed so why not out that in a drop-down menu or something since it inevitably gets pressed during calls due to a ****y proximity sensor and Screen wake setup.
I also drive a manual transmission car. Actually the last 5 cars I've owned have been manual shifted. When YOU are in 100% control of your devices, there are certain niceities which are otherwise unavailable. But that's only if you're the type who doesn't gotta have everything done for them.
As far as you go buddy, if you like the proximity sensor that's fine. Personally I don't ****ing care what you like. thanks for a wasted Fred post which contacted my email to have me come back here to tell you what a waste of time that was thanks.

So I assume you have earbuds, or if not, you can get some really cheap earbuds from the gas station, and when needed, you can plug it in, and it will register that it has earbuds in and will light up again, disabling the proximity sensor. You can leave it in as well, until you need it to talk, unless it will work while calling. This should work, I haven't personally tried it.

Hi,
Hope you managed to solve the issue.
If you haven't then
1. Install sensor disable from xposed repo. It's an old app so there are a few bugs when you try to remove the sensor as such.
2. Buy the Pro version or use lucky patcher to disable in app purchases for Sensor Disabler.
3. Go to the settings of Sensor Disabler and blacklist the apps that you don't want the proximity to work on.(I had problems with my WhatsApp. But it works perfectly now.)

Found an option called smart stay. enabled that and found lift to wake option..
no way to disable face recognition to open up the screen to the lock screen. I end up hitting the power button to turn the screen on it gets turned on by seeing a face right after that I hit the button and it Powers off this is in a matter of seconds. can't break a habit of powering on the screen with the power button. And that's if the face recognition works. Sometimes it doesnt turn on. There is a way to disable this but face rec to unlock the phone has to be enabled, defeats the purpose.

The orientation of volume keys and that damn bixby button that i had to create a samsung account to disable it. While powering the device i need to grab the other side with my fingers and squeeze which the volume keys are
Samsung phone app: on speaker screen sleeps after 10 or so seconds.
Android "10"
The damn clip board fighting each other, Android, google chrome and lastpass auto fill is a disaster.
i find myself double tapping on the screen, i see the button as an example get tapped & button gets like shaded as if pressed, gotta tap again.
the clip board again, select all moves from the original place and jumps to "more" for more clipboard options.
the cursor upside down gps logo drag is stupid, draws up a magnifying glass, very irritating.
voice to text is just bad.

I'll update this op as I go long or if I recall any bloops.

Android Poops allover Crapple. So much more you can do with Open Source. Customisation and apps designed to do specific things that the IPhone can only dream of.
Id rather have a phone i can personalize rather than be held hostage by Apple and limited software .

I have been Android user since the beginning and have a 2nd device which has been an iPhone for 4 years.
Android is superior to iOS in many many ways. The thing is, for the average Joe, the person who will use Verizon's Message+ app just because it was installed, for this user iOS is a better option. Simply works and also simple... no carrier crap.
I know a lady, had the IPhone 6, but really liked the look of the S7 or S8 , cant remember which, she only had it for a month, but she is like theres too much stuff on this to understand, so she went back to iPhone, then decided the IPhone was boring and migrated back to the S9.
As for performance, my partner's friend has the latest iPhone and when they are on a call together in messenger her friend keeps dropping out, my partner has the Samsung A50 because she dosent like curved edges. There never seems to be issues with other people in messenger.
And i think most governments use iPhones because they can't be modified by the average person. And this is why apple sales get their quota, government organizations and Reporter's. Even Mr Trumpty prefers his Samsung over IPhone.
This thread is just weird. If there are multiple apps that handle the same call on Android then you are presented with a prompt by the OS to select a default app to handle that function and then going forward that app will be the one to answer the call when an action triggers that function so I don't understand how this user is getting multiple clipboard apps getting triggered by the clipboard function.
to add another thing there's no way to disable face recognition to open up the screen to the lock screen. I end up hitting the power button to turn the screen on it gets turned on by seeing a face right after that I hit the button and it Powers off this is in a matter of seconds. can't break a habit of powering on the screen with the power button.
OP updated.
The phone turns off because the proximity sensor flashes so your ear doesn't cut people off
Perfectly sensible

LOLWUTT? Just take the phone back and get something else because clearly you don't have a single clue what you're doing or you're trolling.
Only complain I have is that my 3-4 sot equates to 60-80% usage of the battery. I've cleared cache, put most apps to sleep, no gos, no wifi (at work no wifi) no media except Spotify to and from work (1hr total) no nothing autosync.
I'm sick of it. Makes me miss my old phones more because I could leave those things on and get 2 days avg out of them before charging, and that includes watching Netflix, Hulu, YouTube or my Plex server

There is an option in settings > biometrics and securtity> face id > "stay in lock screen" after the phone is unlocked by face-unlock.
You just toggle that switch on.
If you toggle this on, next time you press the power button, the phone will get into the lock screen, it will unlock (if it reads your face), but it will stay in lock screen (so as you can read your notifications etc.). You will have to scroll up to get into the home screen.
I suppose that's what you want to do, correct?

So i have to enable facebrec to enable this??
I hate it even more. There is a way to disable this but face rec to unlock the phone has to be enabled, defeats the purpose.

Can you please explain what you are trying to do?
You want to press the power button and not get into home screen, but stay in Lock screen, correct?
If you don't enable face id, it will not unlock and take you to home screen directly. It will stay in lock screen till you unlock it either by the fp scanner or the pin etc.
If you want to have face id enabled, but not get into home screen directly, you toggle the switch I told you in my previous post.
So what is it that you want to do?
He's trying hard to troll, you just covered every other sensible option.
