I installed a few of my favorite sense 2.1 skin .apk's from the Desire forum on my GingerSense ReMix Rom this morning. I knew it might cause an issue because they aren't officially set up for our phones/framework, but I thought that I could easily restore my Rom using the Nandroid backup I made beforehand.
I have attempted several times to restore the backup, but I am stuck in bootloop land. I wouldn't want anyone else to stumble across this problem by accident, so here is my warning: I don't recommend messing with it, might brick your phone. Here's hoping a complete wipe and reinstall will resolve my issues.
Here is my request: Can one of our pro themers/devs get us set up with some additional 2.1 skins? Even though the HTC hub is working, I would love some additional options.
Secondly: If someone can think of why a nandroid restore would send my phone into bootloop land, could you let me know what the problem is? Just curious. If I can get one of my older backups to work, I'll probably chill out with them for the time being as I garner the motivation to reattempt a GingerSense Rom.
Did you wipe before you restored? I've had issues with not doing that before.

Hi all,
I just unbranded my T-Mobile DE Desire and I'm having trouble restoring the Sense backup. Searching around the forums pointed me to a thread that stated that after hard resetting you just let your desire sit there for a minute after booting and the restore mechanism will automatically kick in.
This however doesn't seem to work for me :-( Is there a way to manually trigger the HTC Sense Restore? It sits there encrypted on my SD Card and I can't get it to restore :-(
Thanks for your help,
Alex
What version was your desire before you unbranded it? the only way to kick start it is to turn your phone off and back on again. Do you have backup to sd enabled on your phone?
A similar thing has happened to me too. Stock ROM backed up SMS etc ok, and I was able to restore on MCR r3.1. However on MCR r5 WIP refresh it doesn't restore from the MCR r3.1 ROM. This also occurred with the 2.2 DJ Droid ROM. =(
I did run the stock T-Mobile DE ROM before. Now I am running the unbranded ROM that comes with the rooting method from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
I noticed that the restore mechanism itself is indeed working: backups made from the new rom can be restored upon factory reset without problems. It's just the backup from the previous ROM that is not recognized.
Any ideas? Isn't the whole point of those backups to work after ROM upgrades?
Thanks for your help!
Alex
I don't know if this helps you but I was able to restore all 600+ SMS as I had been doing an automatic daily backup to the WaveSecure server. This also works for contacts and media. =)
Yes i am new to the rooting scene so please bare with me. When the new unrevoked is released, i will be using it to root my phone. Ive been researching things ahead of times, and just recently became interested in applying a custom rom. To my knowledge, from what ive read, u must wipe the phone before u apply the rom in order to avoid running into any problems. Obviously u would make a nandroid backup first, but once the rom is applied everything would be missing, correct? I think im missing something here, but im just confused one what can be restored on the new rom and how....yet again i apologize but better to ask then rush in and regret it, backup or not. Thanks you.

I use and recommend Titanium Backup to backup and restore all of the downloaded apps. I've heard you're not supposed to restore system apps and their data, just chose app only. I'm almost 100% sure that you can restore user (downloaded) apps with data and not have problems. I've always done that and have had no problems as of yet. Anything else you need cleared up?

Everything will make sense once you root and physically go through the steps, instead of "studying".
Rule #1 is wipe data and cache before applying a new rom. Sometimes if going from one Rom to an update of the same ROM, you dont have to, but it never hurts.
Rule #2 Always create a back-up. I like to use Rom Manager to do this because you can name the file easily, instead of a date/time
Rule #3 When applying a theme, you dont wipe.
For me I dont usually use Titanium backup to restore on the incredible, mainly because the market is so fast on this and I dont have tons of apps. But, as said earlier, you can restore the market apps with no negative consequences, just may run into problems with restoring system apps and data.
Oh yeah, Rule #4 Have Fun, and tell the significant other that it could be worse. You could be out drinking or womanizing
Thanks to both of you, haha i feel better now...ill make sure and post some screenshots with the final product

I have not been able to fully understand all this rooting and flashing etc...O_O so i installed ROM manager, which now some peeps are sayin dont use if you dont know what you are doing WELL HI, THAT WOULD BE ME so for all the experts, gods and godesses of rooting (EVO) flashing, please please please help me from start to absoulute finish...i need to know what am i downloading, running, saving and to where- that was a huge issue too i couldnt find the files after i downloaded them LOL if i am successful...I will post the greatest YOUTUBE, forum, blog about this..i am so lost right now
b4 i forget a couple updates of info everytime i tried to flash or do any type of recent updates i get the usb connection 170 error or maybe 171 cant remember now....ummm...i rooted originally with unrevoked so unrooting i wouldnt have a clue...and yes i have searched allll possible threads for help but i only get 50/50 and then still get messed up..thanks
thanks again and happy rooting
While I am not going to hold your hand as there is plenty of information on these forums and the internet, I will steer you in the right direction. Since you are rooted, all you really need to do is download the rooted version of the latest stock rom. There are a few in the development section. The version is 4.22. After downloading you will flash this rom in recovery. Make sure you do a nandroid backup before flashing the update.
DO NOT unroot just to install the update. You will lose the ability to root hour phone for the foreseeable future.
Good luck

ok thanks i will try it now...stay tuned
Ur not going to see much difference. The update dissapointed lots of people expecting a new look. Install a couple of custom roms if u want to have some fun. I am using the MikG v1.03 Rom with new sense incorperated and its waaaay better than the stock update we just got.

Pleat try to see this as advice and not being an ass.
Rooting your phone is really for being able to dig in to your phone and get all you want out of it and be able to customize more than the average evo.
What were your initial intentions for rooting? I get the draw to have free wifi tether but, that just happens to be one perk of it. Of course, there are the options of kernels and cpu clocking.
But, really the developers are attempting to bring the newest and most useful and functional features to the roms opening the full potential of your phone.
Aside from that, if you are unclear and confused about the process of flashing, you should really hold off and do some more research.
Go to the wiki page and read up! i spent about a month reading everything I could find on rooting, flashing, kernels, radios, prls, threads on roms and their issues and up sides. I knew what I was doing and what rom and features I was going to use.
Honestly, youtube will also be your friend. A few devs also post videos people have made about their roms including how to flash them. You should also read up on the results of mistakes made during flashing and how to fix them.
Get to know your phone and submit it to do your will!
Good luck!

Your apps were gone because you wiped data. Try Titanium Backup - there's a free version in the market that allows you to backup and restore, get the Pro key to avoid agreeing to the permissions/install of each individual app. The Pro version also allows for a larger number of backups per app, where the free version limits to one and when you make another backup it overwrites the first one. You can also freeze apps with the full version, but if you enable "Chuck Norris Mode" in settings the free version will allow you to uninstall system apps. There are other perks to the Pro Key, but I digress...
If you backup your apps & data, you can restore them on the new one. Whenever you flash a new rom, always wipe data, cache and dalvik (dalvik cache is under advanced in Clockwork). If you're simply updating the rom (ie to a newer version by the same dev, like Cyanogenmod nightlies) you can just wipe cache and dalvik unless otherwise stated in the rom. Whenever you flash anything other than a rom - kernels, themes, mods, radios, etc - do not wipe data.
If you don't know which rom to use, as long as you have a nandroid backup you can always go back to your setup that you like... so flash away. If you want to stick with something closer to what you're used to, try Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo... it's still FroYo. If you want Gingerbread/Sense, I've heard great things about MikG. I would avoid any rom that needs you to partition your SD card until you get your feet wet & know what you're doing.
Oh, and if you decide to flash the new radio update, don't pull the battery when you see the screen you've never seen before - you'll brick your phone. Just wait it out, and it'll take you back to recovery where you can then reboot normally.
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
Definitely look at Mik, and learn all you can about partitioning your card for APS2SD, you'll want that for the bigger ROMS, about flashing radios, very important to do that correctly, about theming, and so many other things that being rooted opens up for you.
Mik is great for sure, also kings roms. If you want something that is still htc sense there are many great developers and right now is the time because they are able to merge ports with the ota for the max performance for our phone while running gingerbread and having nifty new 3.0 sense features.
And maybe someday you will venture to the aosp world some day...

Hi people,
I'm pretty new at this, altough this device is my second android smartphone. My first was an LG GW620(rooted and cyanogenmod) now I have the Wildfire (already rooted).
Before I will use custom roms I would love to ask you some questions, because I had a lot of problems with the cyanogen mod on my LG. (Radio FM didn't work, bluetooth, camera, ect..)
Wile rooting my Wildfire, I did a backup with the Clockworkmod Recovery (nandroid I presume) but I am a bit of a noob when it's about backing up and "restoring" it to the same state as before the custom ROM. So I would like to know if indeed I can restore it to the same state (rooted, Android 2.2.1, software 2.22.405.1) and how axactly to do that?
Also, will I have the same problems again with the cyanogen MOD like before?
And last but not least :
What is the current best suited custom ROM to use on this device (hopefully bug-free ^_^) ?
(I did a search and found an old thread (2010) asking for the best rom suitable for the wildfire, so I wanted to create a new one)
Thank you for your help and your input!
With regards, xXxeXtreme
PS.: Sorry for any spellingerrors, still need to install an english spellcheck on this b0x :>
...I'll do that right away ;-)
/ Not 1 more thread like this. Sigh
Anyways, the answer depends on whether you like HTC Sense or not. If you can answer this with 100% surety, you can choose your Custom ROM more easily. CM7 for the Wildfire has come a long way from CM6, and, doesn't have the problems you listed. (FM Works, Cam works, Video Recording works, BT works - BUT, with an additional app called Bluetooth File Transfer installed, else, it may cause issues)
If you cannot live without Sense and its apps (Like Contacts and Dialer), then look at Sense based ROMs like JokerDroid, WildPuzzle, DK Custom ROM etc.
The entire listing can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
There is no definitive answer to what is the best ROM. Every member will have their own opinion, based on what suits them. No ROM is 'universally' good. Infact, many have given up root and gone back to the Stock ROM, because that is what suited them ultimately.
Nandroid Restores can be done from the same menu where you backed up. When you backed up, you must have noticed another option called "Restore". Nandroid Backups are restored from there. Make sure that you do NOT rename the backup folder on your SDCard, nor move it to any other location.
Wow, that was fast thanks for the reply.
I did notice the restore option, but I wanted to be 100% sure that that would indeed revert things to its stock state. And although the Sense is great, fast and ...
I do long for the CyanogenMod's hugely configuration options. So I think I will go for that.
I'll let you guys know how it turned out
Greetz,
xXx
Hmmm... I installed ROM Manager premium and through there I downloaded the CyanogenMOD 7.1.0-RC1, wiped the Dalvik cache and installed it.
When it tried booting, it looked like it got stuck in an boot-loop, it froze and booted again, over and over again.
I'm now trying to restore my last backup, hopefully it will work.
Any ideas? Has this happened to anyone?
Grtz,
xXx
EDIT: I thought of something, I wanted to keep my apps, contacts, ect.. so I 'only' wiped the dalvik cache, nothing else.
Could this be what caused the boot-loop?
EDIT2: Ooooh yes, the ROM Manager premium did a complete backup, and my is back just like it was when I backupped YIIHAAAA (...yeah, I was a bit affraid there ^_^ )
Strange thing though, when I started the phone with volume-down, power button, then did a backup from there, it did'nt backup data and all. only the system. How does that come? (PS.: I used revolutionary to S-Off)
EDIT3: Yups; that did the trick. Wiping all of the data before flashing the mod was what I did wrong. Now it boots up perfectly
It's necessary to perform a full wipe before installing a new ROM. (Not applicable for updates to an existing ROM, like CM RC1 to a new nightly). Else, you are going to end up in a bootloop.
best rom hhhmmmmm ?
No one can tell you whits is the best rom. It is up to you. Whits phone is the best ????
I use hell fire and love it. It is smoot easy and beautyfull. I have not found anything whits not function. Then it maybe should bee me. But no rom can change that.
If you looking for the orginal rom to buzz (wildfire) look here. Here is a gooooood webpage.
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...5.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed.exe
You can find a lot of orginal roms here with a lot of language.
I my self is pretty new to this game. But I have just boyed a cheep phone and start playing. It is a nice and safe way to learn.
I have tryed a lot of the roms and found that if you take your time and let the phone rest in peas wheil it work nothing gos wrong. As the guy up mention wipe everything before flash. Take your time and maybe a cup of coffe and you are playing the best computergame ever.
Have a nice time with the nerves on edge.
Hi
I recently upgraded my rooted phone from the stock Sense rom to CM7 but decided to go back to the original. I've reverted back to my Sense Rom by going into CWM Recovery and restoring from the nandroid backup I made before installing CM7.
Is that all that is required?
Yes. That is all. Ofcourse you might need to restore some missing data/apps that you may have accumulated while using CM7.
Are you facing issues?
Hi,
Thanks very much for the reply. I actually only used CM7 for about an hour so I didn't lose anything from the backup. The problem I'm having is that the battery seems to now be draining about 30% quicker than before and I think it's too much of a coincidence. I have mentioned this in another thread as I didn't want to ask two questions with one post.
I have no idea what could be causing this but wondered if it would be something to do with something that is now different on the phone?
