Hi all,
I just unbranded my T-Mobile DE Desire and I'm having trouble restoring the Sense backup. Searching around the forums pointed me to a thread that stated that after hard resetting you just let your desire sit there for a minute after booting and the restore mechanism will automatically kick in.
This however doesn't seem to work for me :-( Is there a way to manually trigger the HTC Sense Restore? It sits there encrypted on my SD Card and I can't get it to restore :-(
Thanks for your help,
Alex
What version was your desire before you unbranded it? the only way to kick start it is to turn your phone off and back on again. Do you have backup to sd enabled on your phone?
A similar thing has happened to me too. Stock ROM backed up SMS etc ok, and I was able to restore on MCR r3.1. However on MCR r5 WIP refresh it doesn't restore from the MCR r3.1 ROM. This also occurred with the 2.2 DJ Droid ROM. =(
I did run the stock T-Mobile DE ROM before. Now I am running the unbranded ROM that comes with the rooting method from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
I noticed that the restore mechanism itself is indeed working: backups made from the new rom can be restored upon factory reset without problems. It's just the backup from the previous ROM that is not recognized.
Any ideas? Isn't the whole point of those backups to work after ROM upgrades?
Thanks for your help!
Alex
I don't know if this helps you but I was able to restore all 600+ SMS as I had been doing an automatic daily backup to the WaveSecure server. This also works for contacts and media. =)

I've searched for this and cant find the info I need so be easy on me, i'm new to android but loving it. On windows mobile when you backed up your device and then did a firmware upgrade you couldnt just do a restore because of the changed registry settings and other issues that went along with it, you had to restore the software 1 at a time all over again. On the evo I have backed up with Titanium backup and mybackuppro. When froyo comes out (or any other upgrade) , will these backup softwares restore your phone to the way it was before without your phone being all screwed up, or do you have the same issues as windows mobile, and also does it matter if the phone is rooted or not, on how the restore process works? Thanks for any help in advance
Those programs back stuff up like bookmarks, user dictionary and home screen setup just fine and restore things like that very well. System settings and such tend to not backup well. Most applications will also backup and restore just fine although some paid / protected apps may need to be downloaded again but for the most part they restore just fine.
Nandroid does a complete and full backup of everything for complete restores should something you flash not be too you liking. Once you finish all the root / recovery steps that option will be in your recovery menu (phone off, power on while holding down volume, select recovery).
Both have their uses. Nandroid takes you back in time to a different rom or kernel or whatever while a program like mybackup pro make it less painful to get all your stuff back if you want to try out another rom.
It should be noted that a Nandroid restore is only supposed to work on the same OS version that it was backed up on.

What?
Nandroid works regardless of what rom you had before or what you recently flashed. You can have fresh or damage control, nandroid and try froyo and go right back to the sense rom regardless if its a 2.1 or 2.2.
You can set up three plus different roms and use a new one each day. There is no limitation of using froyo (2.2) and going to a 2.1 rom like damage or an asop rom if we ever get one.
Just wipe cache and dalvik before running the nandroid or flashing a new rom that isn't a direct decedent (fresh .2 to .3)

Ok, but you can't go back to say 1.5. So there is a point at which too much change in the OS will cause issues with the restore. I agree that within a few minor version points it is fine but I wanted to be conservative in my answer.
Ok , I think I have a good grip on it now. When I upgrade to froyo I will have to use Titanium or mybackuppro to restore my apps(one by one, or batch method) and maybe some of my settings, I can then use my nandroid backup if I dont want froyo anymore and want to go back to my old stock 2.1 sprint rom and have an identical image to restore, is this correct? Thanks for all the help.
Hi you all.
After having my DHD since last October, I was beginning to be a little frustratet by the bugs in the 1.72 softare. I decided to try rooting, and as I never been into something like this before I sat down and tried to read as much as possible.
After about three days of reading and nail biting, I think I got it right. So I just going to post what I have done, and hopefully get some tips if it's something else I need to do.
Downgraded from 1.72 to 1.32 sucsessfully
Used VISIONary to gain root access
Flashed Android Revolution HD 4.0 β 4 by mike 1986 with Rom manager
Used Terminal Emulator commands to get Eng s-off
Flashed Radio_12.41.60.19_26.06.04.14_M with ADB commands
Flashed RIL for 26.06.04.14_M with ROM Manager
Backed up Rom with ROM manager
Everything so far is working perfect, so I guess I got it right, but I'm wondering what things are included in the backup I do of the ROM with ROM manager? Is it everything settings, contacts, apps or is it just the operating system?
But please let me know if it's anything I missed.
Thanks...
everything is included. OS, apps, settings, contacts and so on.
So just to be sure... If I got a fresh ROM Bakcup it's no use to backup via MyBackup Pro or Titanium backup?
Hi garman76
Yea.. sort of. If you complete back-up of that previous ROM you may consider only to have one. But depending on your risk appetite. You can do a back-up with BackupPro or Titanum and save it elsewhere(e.g. PC) to allow more space. Lol.
Cheers. =)
I installed a few of my favorite sense 2.1 skin .apk's from the Desire forum on my GingerSense ReMix Rom this morning. I knew it might cause an issue because they aren't officially set up for our phones/framework, but I thought that I could easily restore my Rom using the Nandroid backup I made beforehand.
I have attempted several times to restore the backup, but I am stuck in bootloop land. I wouldn't want anyone else to stumble across this problem by accident, so here is my warning: I don't recommend messing with it, might brick your phone. Here's hoping a complete wipe and reinstall will resolve my issues.
Here is my request: Can one of our pro themers/devs get us set up with some additional 2.1 skins? Even though the HTC hub is working, I would love some additional options.
Secondly: If someone can think of why a nandroid restore would send my phone into bootloop land, could you let me know what the problem is? Just curious. If I can get one of my older backups to work, I'll probably chill out with them for the time being as I garner the motivation to reattempt a GingerSense Rom.
Did you wipe before you restored? I've had issues with not doing that before.
heres more skins http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1091564&page=3
Hi
I recently helped my friend to move her phone from stock to Cm7.1 stable and realized that for some reason, changing ringtone doesn't really change the ringtone.
There is a standard ringtone that plays for around 45~60 secs before the ringtone she chose plays.
Does anyone else have this problem or know a fix for this?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Did you do a full wipe before / after flashing CM7.1?
Yeah,
I remembered doing that... do you think that is the way to go?
You HAVE to do that yes.
I think I did. The thing is. it's not my phone, and so if possible I don't really want to have to wipe her phone clean. Could you think of any other possible ways to fix this without me having to have her back up everything and wiping the phone?
Before flashing a rom you should take a nandroid backup and a titanium backup. When you wipe, you then restore the titanium backup.
If you havent got a titanium backup, nandroid back to the old rom before you flashed it and take one. You HAVE to wipe going to CM from Sense.
If you didnt take any of tehse backups, all you can do is flash a sense rom as close to teh rom that was there originally, then make sure you back everything up.
ok. I'll try it when I and she have time. Thanx for your help. I'll update this post respectively.
Hello,
I found topics with similar problems but no solution. This is the situation. Last week I rooted and flashed my HTC One X for the first time and with the help of Titanium I deleted some apps. Didn't like the ROM and flashed the stock ROM, stock boot and stock recovery again. So everything is as it was.
I now have the problem that when I delete the apps I once deleted with Titanium, I see greyed out apps with SD on them, like here:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/at...d-overlaid-screenshot_2014-03-25-13-47-29.png
So this problem doesn't occur when installing and deleting other apps!
A reset of the phone and a format of the SD didn't help. The only thing I noticed is that the SD card says dat 1 GB is in use when connected to the computer. But I don't see any folders. Is it possible that this is the problem. Has Titanium messed something up? Or is there another solution?
All help is much appreciated!
Clear the cache from HTC sense in the apps menu.
Didn't help. Even flashing new roms didn't help. For now, unrooting and relocking the bootloader has helped for some reason. (Hopefully permanent.) Since I'm planning to stay on stock for a while now, this is no problem. But I don't understand it.
